     John Valentine Cheyne was born, 11 March 1883, in New Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. John Cheyne (14650) was the assumed son of Alexander Cheyne and Isabella Scott.1

Alexander Cheyne, 27, and John Cheyne, 16, were listed on the 1901 Scotland Census at South Kirktown, in Echt Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. They were servants on the farm of John Ferres. Both were listed as born in New Machar and farm servant, horsemen. They were cousins.2

John Cheyne was found on a passenger list, dated 18 June 1910, at Quebec, Quebec, Canada. He was a steerage passenger aboard the Hesperian, out of Glasgow. He was 25, single, a farm labourer for ten years, had never before been in Canada, born in Scotland and destined for Winnipeg. He was marked "British Bonus Allowed".3

John Cheyne and Annie Cheyne were found on a passenger list, dated 14 October 1932, at Greenock, Renfrew, Scotland. They were third class passengers aboard the Duchess of York, out of Montreal. They were traveling to Brownhills, New Machar, Aberdeenshire. He was 49 and a teamster and she was 35 and a housewife. Their last permanent address was in Canada and they were not remaining in Scotland permanently.5

John Valentine Cheyne died 7 September 1952 at Post Office in Echt Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland.7,8

John Valentine Cheyne was buried, at Echt Parish, New Kirkyard, in Echt Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. His monumental inscription reads: "In loving memory of Alexander Cheyne who died at Post Office Echt on 23rd November 1933 aged 63 years his brother John V. Cheyne beloved husband of Annie Robertson who died Post Office Echt 7th September 1952 aged 69 years". (on base) "CHEYNE"..7

His estate was probated on 12 February 1953 at London, England.9
