     Helen Cheyne was born, 4 March 1863, at 10:30 PM, in Cairnorrie, Methlick Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland.1,2

George Cheyne, William Cheyne, Helen Cheyne, Sarah Cheyne, Jane Cheyne and Mary Ann Cheyne were listed as children in the household of John Cheyne and his wife, Helen Cheyne on the 1871 Scotland Census, at Balnamoon, in New Pitsligo Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. She was 8 years of age, born in Methlick Parish and a scholar.3

Ellen Cheyne was listed on the 1881 Scotland Census at Ravenscraig, in Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. She was in the household of William Brand, miller and farmer of 23 acres. She was listed as unmarried, 18, born Methlick Parish, Aberdeen and employed as a nurse, domestic servant.4

Helen Cheyne recorded the birth of her illegitimate daughter, Mary Helen Cheyne, on 19 September 1886, in Balnamoon, Tyrie Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland; at 7 AM.5

Helen Cheyne was found in the household of John Cheyne and his wife, Helen Cheyne, and listed as their daughter on the 1901 Scotland Census at Balnamoon Croft, in New Pitsligo Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. She was also listed as 37 years old, single, domestic servant at home and born in Methlick Parish. Her daughter, Mary H. Cheyne, was also present.6,7,8

Helen Cheyne was found on a passenger list, dated 9 October 1910, at Quebec, Quebec, Canada. She was passenger aboard the Hesperian, out of Glasgow. She was 46, single and had not been previously in Canada. She was born in Scotland of Scotch race. She had been a housekeeper in Scotland and was intending to be the same in Canada. She was joining her unidentified daughter. From an account published: Moosomin, Century One, Town & Country: "She experienced a difficult sailing. To keep the ship afloat in the Atlantic everything movable had to be thrown overboard. This included the cattle, all furnishings, and all the personal belongings of the passengers. With her trunk deep in the ocean Mary Helen arrive in Canada with only the clothes she was wearing".9,10

Helen never married. She was always introduced as Auntie Cheyne, older sister to (her daughter) Mary Helen (rather than mother or grandmother to Mary Helen's children).11

Helen Cheyne lived with her daughter, Mary Helen Bain, after the death of her son-in-law, in 1944, and the two lived in Moosomin, until Mary Helen could no longer care for her. Then Helen was cared for by her eldest granddaughter, Muriel Helen McDonald nee Bain, also in Moosomin, She remained there until her death in 1952.11

Helen Cheyne died 18 October 1952 at the home of her granddaughter, Muriel, and her husband, Graham MacDonald in Moosomin, Saskatchewan, Canada.12

Helen Cheyne was buried, at Moosomin South Cemetery, in Moosomin, Saskatchewan, Canada..13
