William Cheyne was listed as a servant in the household of James Tennant, on the 1881 Scotland Census, at 24 Low Street, Merchant's Shop, in Cuminestown, Monquhitter Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was unmarried, age 18, born in Monquhitter Parish and employed as a shopman and merchant's apprentice.5

William Cheyne was listed on the 1891 Scotland Census at 225 King Street, in Aberdeen, Saint Nicholas Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was a lodger in the household of Mary Ann Milne. William was 28 years of age, born in Monquhitter Parish and a draper.6

William was a witness at the marriage of William Alexander Singer and, his sister, Mary Cheyne, on 18 December 1891 at Greeness, at Monquhitter Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland; Established Church of Scotland.7

William Cheyne married Mary Avery Towns 26 July 1892, in accordance with the procedures of the Church of Scotland, at 22 Mount Street West, in Aberdeen, Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was 29 years old, an assistant draper, a bachelor and resided at Ballgreen Cottage, Aberdeen. His brother, Peter, was a witness. His parents were confirmed to be as recorded herein.8

William Cheyne and his wife Mary Cheyne were listed on the 1901 Scotland Census, at 27 1/2 Mount Street, in Aberdeen, Rosemount, Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was head of household and a draper's assistant. Also present were his children, William T. Cheyne and James Cheyne. William was listed as 38 years of age and born in Monquhitter Parish, Aberdeen.9



He probably was the Wm. Cheyne listed in the Aberdeen City Directory; "Cheyne, Wm., draper, 96 Rosemount Viaduct, and 57 Broad Street, home, 39 Beechgrove Terrace".11

William Cheyne and Mary Cheyne were found on a passenger list, dated 1 July 1933, at Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland. They were British tourist class passengers aboard the Letitia, out of Montreal. He was 70 years old and retired. She was 69 years old and a housewife. They resided at 3651 Woodside Road, Aberdeen.12
