Cheyne were listed as children in the household of William Cheyne and his wife, Janet Cheyne on the 1901 England Census, at 54 Tyneside Lee, in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Saint Stephens Parish, Northumberland, England.1

James G. Cheyne was found on a passenger list, dated 18 June 1913, at Quebec, Quebec, Canada. He was a steerage passenger aboard the Megantic, out of Liverpool on the 10th of June. He was 22, single, a dyer, residing and was born in Newcastle On Tyne, England. He had not previously been in the United States. He was destined for Niagara Falls, New York. He father, William Cheyne, 38 Pearce (?) Street, Newcastle on Tyne, was his nearest relative in England.5

All dated 5 June 1917 and all contained the same information. He was born 22 May 1891, in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England. He was marked as having filed First Papers. He was a laborer, at Union Carbide. He was single with no dependents. His address was 132 Roxbury Street, in either Niagara or Queens County, New York.6,2,7

James Grierson Cheyne was found on a list of military personnel dated 11 March 1918 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He had signed an Attestation Paper joining the First Central Ontario Regiment of the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force. He was single, a chemist and was born, 22 May 1891, in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England. He had no previous military experience. His next of kin was his sister, Elizabeth Rodger, residing at 1 Dalgety Avenue, Edinburgh.8

James G. Cheyne was found on a border crossing list entering the United States, 12 April 1919, at Niagara Falls, Niagara, New York, USA. He was returning to his home after serving in World War I. He was 27, single, a chemist and was born in Newcastle. He had been in the United States from 1913 until 10 March 1918, when he jointed the Canadian Army the following day from Niagara falls. He had originally landed in Quebec in June 1913 aboard the Megantic.5

James Grierson Cheyne married Margaret (?). The James G. Cheyne that married Margaret probably was James (11939).4

James G. Cheyne and his wife Margaret Cheyne were listed on the 1940 United States Census, at 18 Ninth Street NE, in Washington, District of Columbia, USA. He was head of household. They rented their home and bpth had resided in Frederick, Maryland in 1935.. He was 48 years old, born in England and had four years of college. No occupation was listed.4
