About 1881. Oswald Cheyne (11873) was the assumed son of Alexander Cheyne in Ceylon (11872) and Alice D. Cheyne maiden surname unknown.3
Alexander either managed or later sold his tea plantation in Celyon to the Lipton Tea Company. The 1901 and 1911 censuses recorded him as a tea planter in Ceylon and an employer.4,5,2

He was a tea planter in Ceylon. His wife, Alice D. Cheyne, and children, Murray, Alec, Alice, Marguerite Blyth and Digby were also present. He was listed as 50 years old and born in Australia.5

He was listed as 60 years old and born in Victoria, New South Wales, Australia.2
