Alexander M. Cheyne (11872), tea planter in Ceylon, and Alexander McKenzie Cheyne (14435) probably were the same person.

Alexander Cheyne married Alice D. Blyth about 1876. They were listed on the 1911 Channel Islands Census as having been married for thirty-five years.1,2

About 1881. Oswald Cheyne (11873) was the assumed son of Alexander Cheyne in Ceylon (11872) and Alice D. Cheyne maiden surname unknown.3

Alexander either managed or later sold his tea plantation in Celyon to the Lipton Tea Company. The 1901 and 1911 censuses recorded him as a tea planter in Ceylon and an employer.4,5,2

Alexander Cheyne and his family were boarders in the household of Edward WINSLOW, farmer, on the 1901 Channel Islands Census, at Rue Poudreuse, Westbury House, in Jersey, Channel Islands. He was a tea planter in Ceylon. His wife, Alice D. Cheyne, and children, Murray, Alec, Alice, Marguerite Blyth and Digby were also present. He was listed as 50 years old and born in Australia.5

Alexander Cheyne and his wife Alice Cheyne were listed on the 1911 Channel Islands Census, at Holly Hurst Road, in Saint Peter Port Parish, Guernsey, Channel Islands. He was head of household and a tea planter in Ceylon. Also present were his children, Digby Cheyne and Marguerite Cheyne. They had been married for thirty-five years and she had six children, all still living. Also present was a domestic servant.. He was listed as 60 years old and born in Victoria, New South Wales, Australia.2
