Robert Cheyne, William Romley Cheyne and Mary Grace Cheyne were listed as children in the household of Robert Romley Cheyne and his wife, Mary Amelia Cheyne on the 1851 England Census, at 43 Berners Square, in London, Saint Marylebone, Middlesex, England. He was listed as 5 years old and born in Marylebone Parish.2

Robert Cheyne, Philip H. Cheyne and Francis C. Cheyne were listed as children in the household of Robert R. Cheyne and his wife, Mary A. Cheyne on the 1861 England Census, at 27 Nottingham Place, in London, Marylebone, Middlesex, England. He was listed as 15 years old, born in Marylebone Parish and a scholar.3

An article in the Evening Post dated 1 July 1879 described the deplorable condition that several Zulus were subjected to during the South African war. A doctor Cheyne was mentioned as the surgeon who finally came to their aid. That doctor probably was either, George Edward (4061), John (8945), Robert (11778), Walter Smith (5747), William (20757) or William Watson (10762) Cheyne.4

He was listed in The Medical Register of the United Kingdom, 1887, 1891, 1903, 1915 and 1919. He first registered 2 April 1883. His qualifications included being licenced by the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, 1883; Society of Apothecaries, London, 1881 and Diplomat Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Ireland, 1898.5

He resided at Fairholme, Croxted Road, West Dulwich, London, SE, 1887-1891.

He was found, listed as Robert Romley Cheyne, on a Register of Electors in Dulwich Borough, London residing at a house at 70 Croxted Road for 1890, 1891 and 1892.6,7,8

Robert Cheyne was found on a passenger list, dated 5 October 1892, at Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland. He was a cabin class passenger aboard the Furnessia, out of New York. He was 40 years old, single, a physician and of Scotch origin.9

Robert Cheyne was found on a passenger list, dated July 1899, at Liverpool, Lancashire, England. He was a passenger aboard the Teutonic, out of New York. He was entered as Dr. R. Cheyne, 46, single, a physician and a foreigner.9

Robert Cheyne was found on a Register of Electors in Norwood Borough, London a lodger in the household of Thomas Knight, renting three unfurnished room at 18 The Broadway in 1900.10

Robert and his brother William Romley resided at Edgefield, York Road, West Norwood, London. Robert was at the same address in 1907.11

Robert Cheyne was granted the probate of the estate of the deceased, Mary Grace Cheyne, 9 November 1906. The will of Mary Grace Cheyne was proved 9 November 1906. An abstract of it reads: "Cheyne Mary Grace of Edgefield, York Road Norwood Surrey spinster died 23 September 1906 at 62 Cambridge Terrace Hyde Park Middlesex Probate London 9 November to Robert Cheyne esquire and Edith Kate Hitchcock spinster. Effects £16617 13s. 2d.".12

Robert Cheyne was granted the probate of the estate of the deceased, William Romley Cheyne, 6 December 1906. The will of William Romley Cheyne was proved 6 December 1906. An abstract of it reads: "Cheyne William Romley of 38 Colby Road Norwood Surrey died 17 October 1906 Administration London 6 December to Robert Cheyne esquire. Effects £6791 14s. 11d.".13

He resided at 15 York Road, West Norwood, London, SE, 1915-1919.14
