     John Cheyne was born, about 1815, in Scotland.1

He was reported in an newspaper article, dated 6 January 1915, to have been a bugler at the coronation of Queen Victoria.2

John Cheyne married Margaret Hurst. A John and Margaret Cheyne, born in Scotland and Bermuda were found on the 1850, 1870 and 1880 US censuses. The first two children of the couple were listed as having been born in Scotland, but no birth record was found for either. John Cheyne (8817) married Margaret Goudie, in Paisley, 1836. This couple could have been them. Other possible known John Cheynes are numbers; 5713, 8702, 7377, 5675 and 7463.

John Cheyne listed on the 1870 United States Census, in Franklin Township, Clermont, Ohio, USA. He was head of household and a journeyman painter. Also in the household were Margaret Cheyne, James Cheyne, Mary A. Cheyne, Elizabeth M. Cheyne, Sarah Cheyne and John R. Cheyne. The above listed persons are his presumed wife and children. The 1870 US Census did not provided the relationship to the head of household.3

John Cheyne and his wife Margaret Cheyne were listed on the 1880 United States Census, in Franklin Township, Clermont, Ohio, USA. He was head of household and a house painter. Also present were his children, Mary A. Cheyne, Elizabeth M. Cheyne, James Cheyne and John R. Cheyne. Living at the next entry was that of his daughter, Sarah, and her husband and 4 month old son.4

John Cheyne died about 1889. He was reported in an newspaper article, dated 6 January 1915, to have died twenty-six years earlier.2
