     Jessie I. Cheyne was born, October 1878, in Massachusetts, USA. The 1880 US Census had her birth year as about 1878; the 1900 said October 1876. The enumerator probably got the year wrong in 1900. If she was born in 1876, it would have been five months after the birth of her brother, Henry.1,2,3

Tom Cheyne, Harry Cheyne and Jessie I. Cheyne were found on a passenger list with their parents John Cheyne and Mrs. Jessie Cheyne, 13 October 1879 at New York, New York, USA. They were on a Manifest of Passengers aboard the Ethiopia, out of Glasgow, Scotland and Moville, Ireland. John and Jessie were listed as 37 and 34, and Gent and Lady. All were said to have been subjects of Scotland and were Cabin Class passengers. All the children's ages were two years older than they should have been.4

Thomas Cheyne, Harry Cheyne and Jessie Cheyne were listed as children in the household of John Cheyne and his wife, Isabella Brown on the 1880 United States Census, at 142 Jensey Street, in Paterson, Passaic, New Jersey, USA. She was also listed as "at home".1

Thos. Cheyne, Harry Cheyne and Jessie I. Cheyne were found on a passenger list with their parents Jno. Cheyne and Mrs. Cheyne, 24 September 1888 at New York, New York, USA. They were first cabin passengers on the steamship Devonia, out of Glasgow, Scotland and were bound for the USA. John was listed as a manufacturer.5

Isabella Cheyne, Thomas Cheyne, Harry Cheyne and Jessie Cheyne were listed as in the household of John Cheyne on the 1895 New Jersey State Census, in Paterson, Passaic, New Jersey, USA. She was listed as native born and between the ages of 5 and 20 years.6

Thomas Cheyne, Henry Cheyne and Jessie Cheyne were listed as children in the household of John Cheyne and his wife, Isabella Cheyne on the 1900 United States Census, at 130 Ward Street, in Paterson, Passaic, New Jersey, USA. She was single and employed as a school teacher.2

Jessie I. Stevenson died 1952.7
