Jean Cheyne, in Peterhead, witnessed the christening of her son, Charles Henry, on 28 January 1847, at Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Peterhead, 1833-1854, Page 268, "January 28th (1847) James Henry (10237), Carpenter, in Peterhead and Jean Cheyne (10236), his wife had a son, born 22nd Dec'r 1846 - baptized and named Charles (10238) before Alex'r and Peter Robertson."5

She was a widow, age 36 and born in Saint Fergus, Banff. Also present were her children; an undocumented daughter, Ann Hendry (12133), age 12; and, an IGI documented son Charles Hendry (10238), age four.6

Jean Hendry was listed on the 1861 Scotland Census, at 60 Broad Street, in Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. She was head of household and a grocer. Also present was her child, Charles Hendry. She was indexed as Jane Henry, 47 years old and born in Saint Fergus Parish, Banffshire.3

Jane Henry died 1862 in Saint Fergus Parish, Banff, Scotland.7

Jane Cheyne was buried, at Saint Fergus Parish Kirkyard, in Saint Fergus Parish, Banff, Scotland. Her monumental inscription reads: "Sacred to the memory of JAMES HENRY shipmaster Peterhead d.in Mexico in 1849 & JANE CHEYNE his wife d.St.Fergus in 1862. Their children: MARY WILSON d.in infancy 1841, JAMES MURRAY shipmaster d.at sea in 1877 & ANNE d.London 1917. JESSIE eldest dau. of CHARLES HENDRY d.Dipplebrae, Crimond 1934"..8
