The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Peterhead, 1833-1854, Page 230, "March 8th (1844) William Cheyne (994), Seaman, in Peterhead and Margaret Finnie (1016), his wife, had a daughter born 5th baptized & named Margaret (1017), before John Lowrie and Mrs. Cheyne (992).”.1

Margaret Cheyne died 8 October 1856 at 2:30 PM, of scrofulous tumour on brain for four months, at 1 Union Street in Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The death was certified by Patrick Jamieson, who last saw the deceased October 8th. The death record listed hear as twelve years of age. Her father, William Cheyne, Shipmaster, recorded her death. Her parents were confirmed to have been as herein recorded.3,4

The following MI was transcribed by Alison Anderson: Erected by William Cheyne Shipmaster in Peterhead in memory of his daughter Margaret, who departed this life 8th October, 1856 in the 13th year of her age. A flower when offer'd in the bud is no vain sacrifice. Also his wife Margaret Cobban Finnie who died 24th October, 1893, aged 70 years. Much regretted. Also the above William Cheyne who died 22nd January, 1896, aged 74 years..4,3
