A Margaret Cheyne, born in Fyvie about 1841, was found a servant in the household of John Fiddes, farmer's son on the 1861 Scotland Census, at Darrahill, Belhelvie Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. She was employed as a domestic servant. The transcriber of the index may have erred in the parish name which may have been Tyrie. That Margaret was probably either (1028), (9923) or (10095).

Margaret Fraser was listed on the 1871 Scotland Census, at 11 Yeats Lane, in Aberdeen, Saint Nicholas Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. She was head of household and a seaman's wife. Also present were her children, Robert Fraser, John Fraser and Jane Fraser. Robert and John Fraser were probably children of her husband's born before their marriage. Margaret Fraser died before 3 April 1881. There was an entry on the 1881 census in Kincardine with a Barbara Fraser, married, head of household and two of the children that were born to Margaret Cheyne and Simon Fraser. Simon was a Shipmaster and not present. Were Margaret and Barbara the same person? It is herein assumed that Margaret died and Simon married secondly to Barbara.5
