This is probably the Duncan McDougall who appears on p. 466 of the 1810 census of Argyle, with a male 10-16 in the same household (could easily be a grandson). The readings for 1790 and 1800 are consistent, and reveal 3 sons and 4 daughters, possibly more. However, the age in the 1800 census is still in the 26-45 category. A possible explanation might be that a generation has been skipped.
This might be the same Duncan McDougall who married Ann Traford by 1768 and had at least 6 children. The name Traford turns up later in a great niece of Duncan, suggesting a connection. The Traford family seems to be centered around the Mt. Ross area (Livingston Manor). So far, no further trace of Catherine has turned up, and Duncan is otherwise only known to have one child. There were, however, other Duncan McDougall's in the Hudson Valley, and it is difficult to be sure which was which. Ann Traford might be the widow Ann McDougall in the 1800 census of Argyle, but if that is so, we would have to find an explanation for the Duncan McDougall in the same census who would then be unidentified.
A Duncan McDougall 1744-1795 is believed to have been the soldier who was a member of the Tyrone County New York Commitee of Safety, 24 may and 02 jun 1775, claimed in 1896 as ancestor of NY SAR member Edward Jonathan Wheeler.

1800 census shows him living in Hebron, with wife and daughter. How many children did he have? Jennie Patton's notes show only the sons, but we strongly suspect he was the father of the Nancy McDougall (born 25 jan 1811, per family notes) who married Benjamin Reynolds. Benjamin died in 1872 and is buried in the McEachron Cemetery (also known as Cossayuna Lake Cemetery), but Nancy and at least some of her children moved away. Our own John McDougall seems also to be associated with Hebron, and a descendant of Benjamin and Nancy Reynolds turns out to share two DNA segments with some of our McDougall cousins. Nancy would be a first cousin of our John McDougall, but apparently not a sibling, as the birth dates are only 8 months and 20 days apart. Death record for Nancy was found in Mower Co., MN, she died 18 mar 1895 age 84 years, 1 month, 25 days, which seems to place her birth date at January 21, 1811, and her parents were named as D. McDougall and Phebe.

(=mentioned ?) in the within deed and acknowledged that they executed the same and the said Phebe on a private examination apart from her husband acknowledged that she executed the same freely without fear or compulsion of her said husband. Questions: Can this parcel be identified in other deeds? Which John McDougall might this be? What explains the joint ownership by John and Duncan (R.) McDougall (whose wife was Phebe Crowe)? How does this transaction relate to any of the McDougalls who married about this time?
Since at this time the spouses were also required to sign when property was sold, we can rule out that the John McDougall in this deed is the one who married Elvira Uran, because they were married in either 1832 (church record) or 1833 (bible record). We can infer that the John McDougall who signed was unmarried, and further, that he most likely was a relative of Duncan R. McDougall. At an earlier date, there were apparently seven heirs at law who had an interest in this parcel of about 35 acres, so it seems logical that at least five of those (Robert, and four others) had already died or else sold their interests in the property, leaving John and Duncan as the sole representatives of Ronald and Effie McDougall who still held an interest in it. If any of these transactions can be located, we would be much closer to understanding the genealogy of this family.

Fitch quotes Nathaniel McDougall (1847) indicating that Ebenezer was then living near Olean Point in PA, about 70 miles west of where Samuel McDougall was then living (in Lawrenceville, PA). The location may be the modern Oleana, Potter Co., PA. Fitch papers imply he was at or near the battle of Plattsburgh in the War of 1812, and further recounts that he married a widow landlady. If the estate papers of Andrew McDougall can be found in Georgia, they might lead us to more information about Ebenezer.
