Her funeral notice turned up in The Oregonian (Portland), Sunday, 18 sep 1904, in the list of Sunday church services: "Berea Mission, Second and Jefferson Streets, Rev. J. H. Allen, pastor—Funeral of Mrs. Louisa A. Allen, wife of the pastor, 10:30 A. M. The evening service is omitted." In spite of references to Margaret D. Allen, daughter of John Harden Allen (1920 US passport application, for example), it is now clear from the 1910 census (Long Beach, California) that Margaret was their "foster daughter", born in Alpena, Michigan, but probably not living with them until after 1900.

Joyce Workman, great-granddaughter of Lucy Jane McCOY CASTEEN, says the family believes the father's name was David, not Reuben McCOY, and has no information on the possible relationship between Lucy Jane and Georgette McCOY WHITESIDES. The source of the family notes stating that Lucy Jane and Georgette were sisters was Carrie O'Hara Twombly. The information appeared in Whiteside notes compiled by Lydell Whiteside.
[1690] Birthdate from cemetery record. Birthplace from Joyce Workman, great-granddaughter, which she says is not verified. In 1828, Bedford was in Oldham Co., and before 1824 was in Henry Co.

She appears on the 1850 census as Luthata McCoy, age 9/12. We surmise that she was named after Lutetia or Leticia Stewart, wife of Thaddeus McCoy's brother Oscar, who had died in 1844. Her age should have been computed as of June 1, 1850, the official census day, but the enumeration was actually taken for this family in September, 1850. She does not appear in this household in the 1860 census (by which time her father had died), so we suppose she had died by that date.
