John as a Scotch Quaker who came to Virginia

John Drummond first appears on the Accomack Co. VA tithablelist in 1664 with three tithables and in other years through 1695 withfive tithables.
He was mentioned in Accomack Co. VA records in 1668 when he andhis sons were legatees in the will of William Grower a neighbor. Hewas granted a certificate for 800 acres of land in Accomack Co. VA on18 Sept 1672. He was a witness or an executor of wills of many friendsliving in the Hunting Creek section of the county during the lastquarter of the 17th century.
On 3 August 1697 Edward Nickson of Accomack Co. shoemaker setover to John Drummond (and others), all of the said county, and totheir heirs, executors and assigns, forever one acre of land...atGilford Creek...for the use and behalf of the people of God calledQuakers, that they shall
have the right to meet there and there to bury their dead.
John Drummond's name was on the Quit Rent Rolls of 1704 with 1550acres. His will dated 10 Oct 1713 names his children and grandchildrenScarburgh and Richard his brother. In religious belief he was a Quaker. When attesting to the will of George Johnson Elder and Quaker he declared "According to the manner and fashion of their religion that he saw him sign the will. In June 1692 he made the following statement: Whereas the late act of Parliament does Injoyne all Protestant dissenters from the Church of England to Signifie...the places of their meetings to performe divine worship; In obedience to which Act we the people commonly called Quaker doe constantly meet on the first day of the week called Sunday at our meeting house built for that use near Gilford in this county."
