Second son, Philip Swartwout, married Antje Wynkoop, a daughter of _______ Wynkoop, of Rochester or its vicinity. He became owner of his father’s estate and resided at the present residence of of Col. Swartwout. He was a Justice of the Peace before and in the beginning of the Revolutionary War, and one of the Committee of Safety. He was killed by the Indians when they invaded this neighborhood, and his two eldest sons were killed at the same time and another son was badly injured. An Indian pursued his son James a half-mile across lots and fences, but could not overtake him. Swartwout and first wife had fur sons—Gerardus (bap. Aug. 26, 1759), Philip, James (bap. sept. 18, 1750), and Cornelius (bap. June 24, 1752). (The Mahackamack church records give the baptism also of another son, Cornelius Wynkoop, bap.
