Misc. Notes
Before her father moved to Pennsylvania, Elizabeth Hartle married John Michael Lantz, a local boy from the Leitersburg District, probably around 1793. Their first four children are believed to have been born in Maryland: Susanna (m. 1. John Hill, 2. David , Mcdonald), Elizabeth (m. William Gahagen), Jacob (m. Susan Newcomb) and Julia Ann (m. Samuel Marshall).
About 1799-1800 Michael migrated with his family to western Pennsylvania in what is now northern Indiana County. There he ran a tanning yard for some time [J. A. Caldwell,
1745-1880 history of Indiana County, Penn’a., 1880 (rept. Butler, PA: Mechling Assoc., Inc., 1990) p. 479].
Children born in West Mahoning Township, Indiana county, were: Margaret I. (m. william B. Niel), John (m. Margaret Ann Kennedy), George (m. Nora Eddy), Frederick (m. Rachel Kennedy), Catherine (m. Harrison Coon), Martin (m. Nancy Coon), Nancy (m. George Stear), Mary (m. Isaac Beck) and Sarah (m. Elias Weaver) [Liebegott Collection, Martinsburg Community Library, Martinsburg, PA].
Michael can be found in the 1820 and later censuses across the line in Jefferson County. In 1820 there were nine children still living at home. In 1846 Elizabeth died and Michael married Susan howard. Michael died in 1854.
