270The son, Michael, who remained in Pennsylvania, ran a tavern, “The Hartle Mansion House” across the river from Georgetown. He bought and sold several properties in and around Georgetown. In 1828 while involved in a lawsuit regarding money owed for a real estate transaction, he died, and his property was sold by the sheriff to meet his debts.496 Sarah was left with six children, ages ten to twenty-one. After a few years she and the children came to Hardin County, Ohio in 1831. The eldest son, Adam, married Prudence Boice and moved to Indiana near Fort Wayne. Another son, John, remained in Marion County, Ohio with his wife Ellen. There were three daughters: Elizabeth married Thomas Frazer, Susan married Elisha White, and Esther married a Heckathorn. The youngest child, Socrates, (my gr-gr-grandfather) remained on the farm his mother acquired by land grant in 1835 in Goshon Township, Hardin County, and married Henrietta Hendrickson, a descendant of Michael Cresap. Socrates’ father died when he was only ten years old. Starting with nothing, he became quite wealthy, owning 1288 acres of farmland when he died on June 21, 1877.497
