Cynric, son of Cerdic, was king of the West Saxons, 534-560. “A.D. 552. This year Cynric fought with the Britons on the spot that is called Sarum, and put them to flight . . . 556. This year Cynric and Ceawlin fought . . . at Beranbury.” (“The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle,” 534, 538, 552, 560, 854).
