John Prowse, of Dodderidge in Sandford, County Devon, who was in 1418 co-patron of Cruwys Morchard, some six miles north of Sandford. This Johns is descended from Sir William Prouse, Knight of Gidleigh Castle, now a Norman ruin eleven miles southwest of Sandford, who was a thirteenth century magnate well known to students of medieval Devonshire.
