He is is not recorded as holding any town office, but the town met several times at his home to consider town affairs. He resided on his father’s place apparently near Payne Street, Quincy. Hannah Wilbore is mentioned in the will of her brother Joseph Bass in April 1710.
Stephen Payne was made freeman 18 May 1653 at Boston with Joseph Adams who seems to be the Braintree man, but on 23 May 1655 a Stephen Payne who was surely of Braintree was also made freeman.
