Mary Hartle, or known to her family as Polly, married Henry Smith prior to 1811 when her father completed his will. There are several Henry Smiths in the 1810 census in Bedford County, but only one in Woodberry Township. The ages of the parents match, and there was a boy and a girl under ten years of age. We may have also identified the family in the 1820 and 1830 censuses, but the ages of some of the children are more than would be expected. The Henry Smith in the same township in the 1840 census is too young, but he could be their son. It appears that the family did remain in Morrison’s Cove, but we do not know the names of the children and can only guess their ages.66
