270Samuel volunteered for service in the War of 1812 on May 23, 1812, and served in the regiment commanded by Col. Lewis Cass. As a Private he marched with Captain Campbell’s company from Ravenna to “Lower Sandusky” and was assigned to a unit guarding the post at the Maumee River. He was made prisoner of war when the northwestern posts were surrendered to the British on august 16, 1812 and placed on parole for a year. For this service he recieved five dollars per month.
