In 1790 Jesse Brown kept a tavern famed for its food, patronized by merchants from West Indies. President John Adams and wife dined there August 1, 1797. Jesse Brown established a stage line from Hartford to Boston by way of Norwich in 1790. From Boston to New York in 1793. The fare from Boston to Providence was $3.00. Ann Rudd died and he married her cousin, Lucy, Dece. 26, 1781. Lucy was a daughter of Daniel Rudd and Mary Metcalf.
