Misc. Notes
398“David Fulton died ca 1836. My notes show that Elizabeth (Yerkes) Fulton d ca 1818 at Shelby Co, KY. I have a photocopy of a power of attorney dated 6 October 1834, between David Fulton and Nancy, his wife, [2nd wife?] of Shelby Co. KY to their son, William Fulton “to be our agent & attorney in fact ... to agree for bargain sell & convey rent out & lease to any person or persons all or any part or parts of any tract or parcel of land that may be or that descended to us from the estate of Robert Rankin and which lies in Withe [sic] & some adjoining county in the State of Virginia.”
“Regarding the Shelby County David, I suspect that Nancy is a second wife -- probably related to Robert Rankin. We need to get the will and estate settlement of Robert Rankin of Wythe Co., VA (ca 1834!)”
“Further, this means that David Fulton of Shelby Co, KY, was probably living in southwestern Virginia at the time your Margaret Jane Edmundson Buchanan Beattie was born in 1814 at “Glade Spring,” Washington Co, VA. I’ve been there -- we’re talking a stone’s throw distance. And, you’re not going to believe this, a John Fulton acquired land known as the “Big Glade” on the Holston River in 1785. Possibly Glade Spring? [Or is that in Smyth Co? -- just rambling.]”
“Am I pulling at straws? I don’t think so. The only Anthony Fulton I have ever encountered is the son of this very David Fulton of Shelby Co, KY. I have always suspected a connection to Anthony Yerkes. Further, I have a note in my files that states that the will of Anthony Yerkas (probated ca 1791 in PA) names his daughter, Elizabeth, wife of David Fulton, “now living in Virginia!” I think we’re really onto something here.”
