In 1869 they moved from Van Buren Co, IA to Hebron, NB. Lived there until 1892 when they moved to Portland, OR. Remained there until 1897; in 1903 removed to Los Angeles, CA. He was 5 ft 11 in tall, light complexion, gray eyes, dark hair. Served in the Civil War - Company C, 45th Iowa Infantry.
