Lawrence Corray, Washington, Ill.
Lawrence “Larry” William Corray, 70, of Washington, Ill., died at 10:30 a.m. Monday (July 13, 1998) at the Methodist Hopsital, Peoria.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mason-White Funeral Home, 212 S. Main St., Washington. The Rev. Paul Prater will officiate. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery, Washington.
Mr. Corray was born Aug. 23, 1927, at Champaign, a son of George D. and Clara M. Shroyer Corray. He married Janet S. Patton. She survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Michael S. Corray of Peoria, Daniel M. Corray of Washington and Kyle N. Corray of Littleton, Colo.; a brother, Harold Corray; and 11 grandchildren.
He graduated from Urbana High School in 1945. He was an All-state football player and was elected to the U Club Alumni Hall of Fame. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Bradley University and a master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado.
He retired in 1982 as a teacher at Glen Oak school, Peoria, after 30 years of teaching. He operated a cattle ranch near Harrison, Ark., after retirement.
Mr. Corray served in the Navy during World War II.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 93 in Jasper, Ark., the National Retired Teachers Association, the National Education Association and the American Radio Relay League.
