Birthca 1525, Prowse, Sandford, Devonshire, England
Death1604/1608, Prowse, Sandford, Devonshire, England
Misc. Notes
Robert Gye “rented” the Prowse Estate at Sanford, England from his father-in-law, Thomas Dowrish on 6 April 1587. One of Robert’s ancestors, John Gye, seems to have been the original owner of Prowse Manor in 1418.
Robert Gye was, in the latter part of the reign of Elizabeth I, involved in chancery suits and in fines of the common pleas, with James Courtenay. This litigation concerned lands at Upcott settled by Thomas Prowse in 1509 on Mary Prowse at her marriage to John Gye.
Robert Gye also held lands in Poughill, at Upcott, and in Kingsbridge, south of Devon. He and his second wife, Grace Dowrish, had at least eleven children.
Robert Gye or Guy died probably 1604-1608 aged 5 years at inquest of his father John Gye 29-30 Hen. VIII
