Misc. Notes
Andrew and Simeon Potts, two brothers, came from Holland to America and settled in Pennsylvania about the year 1730. One of these men had 7 boys and the other 8 and one had 5 girls and the other 4. Andrew Potts lived in Little York for a time and then founded Pottsville, about the year A.D. 1735. Pottstown, Pottsgrove, and Potts Station are towns in Pennsylvania named for this family, before they moved farther west. At a later date, Andrew Potts moved to Maryland.
This family fought in the Revolutionary War and it was Isaac Potts who sheltered George Washington at Valley Forge, in Schuykill Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. In December 1777, Washington and his army of about 11,000 men, went into winter quarters at this place and spent a severe winter. Delilah (Potts) Funk used to say that several of the Potts brothers had iron forges and worked together. The forge in the valley was called "The Valley Forge" to distinguish it from the others. This Valley Forge was only a dwelling and a forge.
