“Mrs. Fitch’s Will Filed In Court [Feb. 22, 1940]”

The will of the late Mrs. Amanda Fitch of Urbana was filed Wednesday afternoon with the county clerk for probate. She leaves a 200 acre farm near St. Joseph.

She leaves her watch to her niece, Mrs. Effie Rose; a bracelet to a niece, Mabel Stephens and a diamond brooch to her niece, Mrs. Lillie Townsend.

She appoints T. B. Webber executor and trustee of her estate and stipulates that he is to convert it into cash within two years after her death.

She leaves one-fourth in trust for her sister-in-law, Mrs. Clara Smith and one-fourth to her sister-in-law, Mary Smith.

After $700 is set asde in trust for the burial of her sister, Mrs. Samie Allison, she stipulates that the rest of the estate shall be divided between the following nieces and nephews: Charles and Edward Jordan, Bessie Shaffer, John Ross Jordan, Allie Miller and Effie Rose.

The instrument was signed July 5, 1938, in the presence of Fred H. Corray, Doctor james S. Mason and Fred M. Howell.

“Mrs. Fitch, 79, Passes Away Sunday [Feb 18, 1940]

Mrs. Amanda W. Fitch, 79, Urbana resident, died at the kankakee State hospital Sunday evening, following a year’s illness due to a complication of diseases.

The body was brought to the Leonard funeral home in Urbana and the services will be from there at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with Reverend T. W. Thompson, pastor of the First Methodist church of Urbana, in charge. Interment will be made in Mount Hope cemetery beside the body of her husband.

The deceased was born Amanda W. Allison, daughter of Samuel and Mary S. Allison, at St. Joseph on April 5, 1860. She was married Aug. 9, 1883, at Peoria to Theodore S. Fitch, a railroad passenger conductor. For a number of years afterward they resided at havana. Mr. Fitch died there Aug. 16, 1899.

After her husband’s death she moved to Los Angeles, Cal., returning to Urbana about four years ago to look after her farming interests near St. Joseph.

The only survivor is Mrs. Samie Allison Tucker, 310 West Church street.
