“Samuel R. Somers Succumbs in Hospital.
Samuel R. Somers, 204 Barr Avenue, died at 9 a.m. today [May 14, 1940] in Burnham city hospital, where he had been a patient for three days. Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending the arrival of his daughter from Port Byron.
Mr. Somers was born in somer township March 2, 1868. He was married to Effie May harry April 1, 1896. Mrs. Somers died Dec. 28, 1944.
He leaves five children, Joseph and Francis of Urbana. Harry and Ralph of near Savoy, and dorothy of Port Byron. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. martha J. Starkey of Urbana.”

“Last Rites Saturday for Mrs. Effie Somers.
Funeral services for Effie M. Somers, 74, who died at 2:45 p.m. Thursday [28 Dec 1944] in Burnham hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m. saturday in the Renner funeral home with Rev. A. a. Belyea, pastor of the First Methodist church, Urbana, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive cemetery.
Mrs. Somers, who last resided at 204 Barr Avenue, Urbana, came to this community with her husband, Samuel, 21 years ago from their home near Savoy. She was born Aug. 2, 1870, and was married in April 1896. Prior to her marriage, Effie Harry taught at school No. 4, Urbana. She is the daughter of Martin and Olivene Harry.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Somers leaves four sons: Harry, Route No. 1, Champaign; Ralph, 904 West Oregon, Urbana, Joe, 604 West California, and Francis, at home; one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Baker, Moline; and five grandchildren. She also leaves three sisters: Mrs. Frances H. Aiken, Santa Ana, Calif., Mrs. Ethel M. Smith, Bloomington, and Mrs. Daisy E. Edwards, Urbana.
Mrs. Somers was a member of the First Methodist Church, Urbana, the missionary society, Savoy, and the Community Workers club.
