David Marriott


CHAMPAIGN – David Richard Marriott, 90, passed away Jan. 15, 2008, at Heartland Health Care Center in Champaign.
Mr. Marriott was born on March 15, 1917, in Champaign County. He was the third child born to Richard and Mary Elizabeth Smith Marriott. He graduated from Urbana High School and attended the University of Illinois. Richard married Evelyn Jean King on Dec. 17, 1939. They recently celebrated 68 years together!
Richard was a wonderful father to five children: Jacqueline (Phil) Nigg, David Richard (Ann) Marriott, Joseph Carl (Jane) Marriott, Debra (David) Knight and Jeffre Lee (Dodie) Marriott. He is further survived by 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Joseph Wesley Marriott; his sister, Clara Picard; and one grandchild, Randal Dean Nigg.
Richard was a lifelong farmer in Champaign County. He worked for the State of Illinois Highway Department for a time, and retired from Somer Township Road Department. He was a member of the Carley Church until it closed and then the First Methodist Church of Urbana.
Richard loved Champaign County. He enjoyed life, playing cards and square dancing. He was a blessing to all his family and friends.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Road, Urbana. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the funeral home. The Rev. Mike Smith will officiate.
