Family Stories
The story I grew up with is that Ernest Dunn had about 20 head of cattle he was taking to Chicago for Grandpa Smith and never returned. He could never be located and it was thought that he had been robbed and murdered. Anyway, in the 1920 census Elizabeth Margaret Dunn, with children, was listed as a widow living with her parents.329

Misc. Notes
Harold D. Dunn, who lives near Chicago, Illinois, was a close 1st cousin to my Dad. I talked to him last year when Louis Henry Dunn died and he told me that his father had told him that Grandpa William Henry Smith paid Ernest Joseph Dunn to just take off due to the mistreatment of his daughter, Elizabeth Margaret Smith, Lizzie as they called her. Lizzie’s hands and feet were crippled and she had a spot in Grandpa Smith’s heart.329
