Edward exchanged it for land in Marshall County, Iowa; Land not clear; Lost land and were very poor; Moved to Hancock County, Iowa; Tree claimed in Woodbury County, Iowa; Eliza spent one winter alone in a sod house on land to meet requirements of claim.

Obituary
Eliza Ann Smith was born in Champaign County, Illinois, March 9, 1857, was married to E. H. Turner. There were born to them eight children—Edward, Emma, Udora, Lottie, james, Ella, William and Charles—two of whom died in infancy. At the age of 16 the deceased united with the Baptist Church. She and her husband, who predeceased her several years ago, came to Iowa and soon after their marriage and in 1883 moved to Woodbury County. The funeral was held at the home in Wolfcreek township Saturday at 1 o’clock. The attendance was so large that the services were conducted in the open air by Rev. R. E. Graves of Cambridge, Iowa, who preached from Matthew 28:2. The body was taken to State Center for interment.
