Gordon Smith
Champaign -- Gordon Everett Smith, 76, of 17 E. University Ave., C, died at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday (March 6, 2001) at home.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Road, U. The Rev. Morris Christman will officiate. Burial will be in the Danville National Cemetery.

Visitation will be for one hour before the services Satuday at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith was born Nov. 16, 1924, at Urbana, a son of Roland and Hazel Hartle Smith.

Surviving are a brother, Alan K. Smith of Rantoul; and four sisters, Norma J. Elkins, Sylvia D. Smith and Celia G. Snyder, all of Urbana, and Nina P. Mecum of Champaign.

Mr. Smith graduated from Urbana High School and attended the University of Illinois. He served in the Navy during World War II as an aviation machinist mate. He was a horticulturist at the University of Illinois until he retired.

He was an artist and had an art exhibit at the Champaign Public Library. He was a member of the Parkland College Choir.
