Hazel Smith
Hazel M. Hartle Smith, 82, of 202 Willow Road, U. died at 11:20 a.m. Friday (July 3, 1987) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Weaver-Henderson Funeral Home, Urbana, the Rev. Morris Christman officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery, Mayview.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 12, 1904, in farmer City, a daughter of Archie Jason and Opal Elizabeth Stewart Hartle. She married Roland T. Smith on Feb. 11, 1924, in Urbana. He died June 18, 1983, in Mountain Home, Ark.

Survivors include two sons, Gordon E. Smith of Champaign, and Alan K. Smith of Urbana, four dauthers, Norma J. elkins, Sylvia D. Smith and Celia G. Snyder, all of Urbana, and Nina P. Mecum of Champaign; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen H. Christensen of Urbana and Marie H. Lucas of San Bernardino, Calif.

She was preceded in death by a son.

Mrs. Smith graduated from Urbana High School in 1922. She attended the University of Illinois.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Neighborhood Social Club, the Champaign County Home Bureau, and the Artists Guild of Mountain Home, Ark. She was a 4-H leader for many years. Mrs. Smith moved back to Urbana after her husband’s death.
