Jacobus Bruyn, the elder, was a native of Norway, a ship-carpenter by trade, and was probably among the early settlers of Ulster County. At his death he left two children, Jacobus and Ester, who married Zacharias Hoffman. His widow married Severyn Ten Hout, who came to America on the ship "Fox" in 1662, and took up a patent of land in Shawangunk, Ulster County.188, "The Schoonmaker Family of Ulster Co., N.Y." by Thomas G.
