Andrew Potts, II, who was born in Maryland 1753, a son of Andrew Potts, joined a Washington County, MD company of militia in the Revolutionary War in 1777. He was a Lieutenant under Captain Jacob Sears (then called a "Lef-tenant" by a Dutch ancestor). He is in the DAR Patriot Index.
“Apparently, several children of this man [Andrew Potts I] and his brother fought in the Revolutionary War. One Isaac Potts sheltered George Washington at Valley Forge. Several of the Potts families had forges and this one was called Valley Forge to distinguish it from the others. Pottsville, Pottstown, Pottsgrove, and Potts Station in Pennsylvania were named for members of this Potts family.”
