Listed on the tax rolls for Lysander, Onondaga Co, NY as owning 50 acres valued at $1,250.

Between 1850 and 1853, they moved to Joliet, Will Co, IL where they lived on a farm in Ash Grove Twp. He worked for his brother, Albert William, where he ran a distillery in Hadley, Will Co, IL and later in Pontiac, Livingston Co, IL.

Sometime before 1875 they moved to SD.

Alexander and Mary had no children, but they raised an orphan, Emma, who never married and also, Charley Cahoe, who was a barber in Gilman, IL.
