They lived in a loghouse on land adjoining his brother Joseph’s farm until 1790, when they moved to Copperstown, Otsage Co, NY. It was said they moved to the borderline of New York and Penn. At any rate, the family are in Cleveland in 1819.
89About 1818, Mr. Rudd settled on a land grant in Springfield Township, Erie Co, PA, with his family of ten children. His children married and settled on farms adjoining.
They lived in a little house at his brother Joseph's in Bennington until they moved to near Cooperstown, NY with their 10 children (all born at Bennington), buying 100 acres along the shore of Lake Erie. John divided the land among the 10 upon his death. John and Chloe moved to Cooperstown, Otsego, NY, where they purchased 100 acres. John divided the land among his 10 children when he died.

Misc. Notes
Their daughter Tryphosa, tells a story of a day when John and Clara(Chloe) were sitting on the porch together. She would say, “You ain’t my true lover.” He would answer, “Yes, I be.” She would retort, “No you are not. My true lover is at the bottom of the sea.”

Was on the roster of Captain Elijah Dewey's company as it was formed at the time of the Battle of Bennington, August 16, 1777. He was on the payroll as Private of Capt. William Hutchin's Company in Col. Herrick's Regiment of Militia in the service of the State of Vermont commencing October 11, 1780. For 8 days service and 60 miles travel, he was paid 1 pound 12 shillings 8 pense. John was on the payroll, as Sergeant of the Company of Militia commanded by Capt. Isaac Tichenor and ordered to Saratoga by Col. Ebenezer Wallbridge in August 1781, from Bennington being 30 miles. For 2 days service and 30 miles travel he was paid 12 shillings 8 pense. He was on the payroll as Sergeant of Capt. Isaac Tichenor's commencing October 13, 1781, in service at Castleton. For 16 days service and 60 miles travel he was paid 2 pounds 5 shillings 4 pence.
"This may certify that this Steat[sic] is indebted to Mr. John Rud thirty five bushels of Wheat, for Corn Which this Steats troops had of him Last Campain[sic] – Arlington Jany. 31th[sic] 1781 ??? by Jona. Fassett, C.P."
"Payable office 31st of january 1781. The Treasurer is Directed to Pay to John Rud Eight Pounds fifteen Shillings L (lawful?) money for the Within Wheat. Per order of Thos. Chittenden, John Fassett, Committee."
