“Joseph was baptized in Charlestown by the Rev. Thomas James Feb. 12, 1636-7. He was an early settler of Haverhill, where he had a house-lot of five acres, and a farm. He married first Maria Soatlie of Charlestown April 19, 1664, who died march 22, 1665 without issue. In 1666 he married for a second wife hannah Tenney, who was born Jan. or Mar. 15, 1642, a daughter of Ensign Thomas and Ann Tenney of Rowley. She died after 1714. He was not as active in town affairs as his brother, but prospered as a farmer. In later life he owned, together with his sons, three hundred acres on the northerly side of a small stream called Fishing River. He died November 18, 1714, a richer man than his father as his will proves. His son nathaniel was his executor.”
