Deborah Payne, widow of Maverick Johnson probably married 2nd, John Morgan. In several indentures her right of dower was recorded “that was set out to Deborah Johnson alias Morgan, late widow of sd. Maverick Johnson for sd. Deborah Morgan’s use during her natural life, and land the sd. Silas Spragie bought of John Morgan and that right of land belonged to Maverick Johnson deceased...” (Lebanon, Connecticut Deeds 10:124, 470)9

“Maverick was born Jan. 1, 1707; married first Bathsheba Janes Oct. 1, 1730; who died Oct. 13, 1736. He married second dorothy or Deborah Payne, May 10, 1737; and died Dec. 18, 1744. The second wife’s name is given in the marriage record as Dorothy, but all the children’s births are recorded under Maverick and Deborah. They lived in Lebanon, Conn.”8

On 15 Jun 1732, John Johnson for “love and affection to my son maverick Johnson” granted 100 acres of the “farm where I now dwell that I bought from Governor [Jonathan] Belcher of Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, beginning at Beaver Dam, east by Samuel Seabury, Thomas Bishop, and Stephen Bingham. Witnesses: Joseph Jacobs and Richard Abbe. John Johnson’s grantee deed, dated 12 February 1729, described the property as “the same land bought by Belsher, 25 April 1714, from Daniel Whight of Winsor [sic] ... and Elizabeth his wife which has been under the occupation of Obadiah Wheeler.” (Lebanon, Connecticut Deeds 4:276, 416)”9
