The San
Fernando Valley Genealogical Society was organized January 18,
1981. Alexander White, a Dean at UCLA gave beginning and advanced
classes that summer. The first publishing project,
Guide to Revolutionary
War Records in L.A. Area Libraries (1985), was started at Alexander
White's suggestion. He had collected bibliographies of Revolutionary
War resources for years and was interested in making it available
to researchers. Alexander White and Muriel Fisher, then president
of the society, arranged the first organizational meeting on
Saturday March 21, 1982. There were many volunteers helping with
the Revolutionary War Project. Five major libraries were checked.
Ed Coles was the project coordinator and he double checked all
the work. The second
publication was Genealogical
Holdings in the Mark Harrington Library (1985).These were books belonging
the the San Fernando Valley Historical Society and located at
the Andres Pico Adobe, 10940 Sepulveda Boulevard, Mission Hills
CA. Sterling Jensen inventoried the library for this publication.
