Resources

Canada's military records are held by National Archives. Saskatchewan Servicemen may have some records held at the Regina office of the Provincial Archives. Going to the archive office and looking through the historical records of the Department of Public Works will show some WWI Expeditionary Force rolls which are listed by Battalion. Fatalities of WW1 and WWII are held in an alphabetical listing. Collections are listed by organization at an archive...Biographical information may be available from the historical documents of Regina Rifles Regiment, Royal Canadian Legion, British Empire Service League, or the Saskatchewan Provincial Command. Provincial Archives have limited research services available, it is best to pop down in person if possible.

There are many, many military resources on the internet, search by battalion, uniform, specific war, country etc. Each site will provide more links, to help the search become more specific and narrow down the number of sites provided.

World War I (1914-1918)

Borden Battery – CEF Study Group Moderator Regina, Canada (aka Dwight G Mercer) sent in this information

As Remembrance Day approaches, the vast majority of Canadians may pause for two minutes of silence. Nevertheless, there are also thousands of researchers (amateur and professional) who are studying and relearning the lessons of the Great War. Much historic material has been digitally scanned and is being made available under the concept of “Open Source”.
Most often the research is focussed on “telling the story” of hundreds of thousands of Canadian men and women who became part of the Canadian Expeditionary Force in the Great War.
Genealogy is an important element in reconstructing the volunteer military histories of these men and women associated with the Great War.
Membership in the CEF Study Group discussion forum is also free and new members are always welcome.

Héritage Portal Directorate of Movements 152 digitized microfilm reels
"The Directorate of Movements 1939-1948 (or DMove, as it was also known) was responsible for the movement by land, sea and air of troops, stores and animals required by the military during the Second World War, both in Canada and overseas. During the course of the war, this directorate coordinated the movement of more than 650,000 Canadian service personnel to the United Kingdom, as well as countless thousands of tons of cargo and military stores. DMove was under the authority of the Quartermaster General (QMG) and was centred at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa. However, it had a number of field offices at ports and railway termini in Canada. "

Héritage Portal Directorate of Internment Operations 2 digitized microfilm reels
"During the Second World War, the Minister of Justice could detain anyone acting "in any manner prejudicial to the public safety or the safety of the state." Thus both enemy nationals, such as Germans, Italians and Japanese peoples. and Canadian citizens were subject to internment. The army and the Secretary of State shared administrative responsibility for internment camps in Canada during the war, and these camps operated in Ontario, Quebec, Alberta and New Brunswick. Citizens could also be interned for belonging to outlawed organizations such as the Communist Party, so some felt that internment was used as a weapon against labour leaders. This collection consists of subject files created and retained in the office of the Director of Internment Operations which relate to the internment in Canada of German and Italian prisoners of war and of Canadian residents whose loyalty was suspect during the Second World War. In addition to policy files, there are inspection reports and returns as well as files relating to welfare matters, complaints and intelligence. The series also contains pay documents, medical documents and an alphabetic index of prisoners of war and internees on microfilm (see reels T-7020 to T-7057). These constitute a finding aid to other internment records as they indicate the camps in which the prisoners were held. "
