BUDNEK � Gashitza Budnek was born in the Ukraine on June 9, 1872. After her first husband passed away she married George Budnick on October 15, 1900. In 1904 they immigrated to Canada, along with a daughter and two sons. They moved to a homestead north of Sturgis. In 1908, a daughter Jenny was born and in 1910, a son Mike. Her daughter Colena passed away in 1911. Gashitza, suddenly got very ill and was crippled and blind and remained bedridden for 20 years. Her daughter, Jenny and family cared her for. She passed away at her home on July 14, 1948. BUDNEK � Jiorj (George) Budnek was born June 14, 1865 to Vasile Budnick and Justina Hincu in the village of Cuciurmarc, Ukraine. He married Gafitza Prekaski (Prccosca) at Cuciurmarc, Ukraine on October 15, 1900. In 1904, George and his family immigrated to Canada and first lived at Saltcoats and then moved to a homestead north of Sturgis. In 1909, George froze his feet and this resulted in him having both legs amputated below the knee in the Yorkton Hospital. In later years, George lived with family members. He passed away in January 1954 before his 90th birthday. BUDNEK � Kalyna (Colena) Budnek was born in the Ukraine to parents George and Gafitza Budnek in 1901. At the age of four years, she came to Canada with her parents and brothers, Alex (Sandek) and Pete (Piotr) in March 1904. The family first lived near Saltcoats and then took a homestead north of Sturgis. Colena died in April 1911 of the flu and was buried at Spring Valley Cemetery. BUDNICK Helen Budnick 84 of Yorkton and formerly of Sturgis, died on October 8, 2002 at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home. Funeral held in Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Sturgis and burial in Spring Valley Cemetery. She was born on December 31, 1917 to Frank and Cecilia Babiaz in Poland, and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1929. The family settled in the Woodlight district, northeast of Sturgis, where she attended school. She married Peter Budnick on October 24, 1937. They settled on a farm in the Ajax district, where they raised two sons and two daughters. They retired to Sturgis in 1974. Helen moved to Yorkton in 1993 to live with her daughter. In 1996 she became a resident of the Yorkton and district nursing home. Predeceased by her parents, her husband, Peter in 1979, a daughter at birth, her sister, Isabelle in Poland, two brothers, Joe and Peter, she is survived by two sons, Henry (Joyce) of Ashern, MN and Jerry (Jeanette) of Sturgis; two daughters, Bernetta (Bill) Spires of Yorkton and Lorraine (Lorne) Calver of Swan River, MN; her brother Ted of Whitby, ON; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. BUDNICK � Mike Budnick, was the youngest son born to Gyordie and Gafitza Budnick on the family homestead September 20, 1910. He left home at an early age and his whereabouts was unknown to the family for about 40 years. At one time he was a prospector at Watson Lake, Yukon. He later lived at Fort St. John, BC and worked as a handy man. He eventually ended up in a nursing home in Vancouver and died there on March 5, 1998. His ashes were brought back to Saskatchewan and buried at Spring Valley Cemetery near his parents. BUDNICK � Peter Budnick, 76 of Sturgis, passed away on September 9, 1977. Funeral service held at Sturgis Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Born in what was then Austria in 1903, he came to Canada in 1904 with his parents, who settled in the Sturgis area. In 1937 he married Helen Babiaz and they farmed in the area north of Sturgis until 1974, when they retired and moved to Sturgis. Besides his wife, he is survived by two brothers, Alex of Hudson Bay and Mike of Fort St. John, BC; a sister Jenny Okrainetz of Sturgis; two sons, Henry of Ashern, MB and Jerry of Sturgis; two daughters, Bernetta Chernowsky and Lorraine Clavel of Thompson and 10 grandchildren. CHALUS - Tony Chalus was born in Preeceville on February 6, 1928 to John and Alexandra (Tureski) Chalus. He was one of twelve children. He started school in Sunny Bray and in 1935, he moved with his parents to the present location, where he attended Ormside School from grades 2 to 8 and then Stenen High School. He then went to work in the forestry industry in Saskatchewan and Ontario, where he also spent time working on a tobacco farm. He also worked in gravel and road construction as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. He was known as the best asphalt spreader in Sask. After his dad passed away, he moved back home to take care of his mother and run the family farm and cattle business. He loved all the animals and had names for each one. He worked side by side with his mom and all her chickens and geese and their huge, carefully tended garden. They always shared the bounty they produced with any one that needed it. Tony was a loving family man who cared for and respected all his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. He enjoyed sharing stories with friends and family. He always took the time to listen to what you had to say. With his friends and neighbours, he would play cards, visit anytime and enjoyed surprise parties. He also loved relating these events to his far flung relatives. He played hard ball for Stenen as a back catcher and later he moved to slow pitch. He enjoyed horseshoes, bowling, riding his quad and was a great dancer. Predeceased by his parents, sisters, Rose Chalus, Ann Hayward, Elsie Drebit and Marg Parolin; brothers, Mike, Barney and Fred, he is survived by his brothers, George (Jean) of Hudson Bay, Andy (Sally) of Langley, BC and his sisters Irene and Mary of Calgary. He will be missed by all family, friends and his dog Sugar. CHEKOWAY � Cecillia Babiarz Dmytriw Chekoway, 81 of the Sturgis district, died on June 22, 1968. Born in Poland in 1887, she and her family came to Canada in 1929, where they settled on a farm in the Woodlight district. Her husband, Frank Babiarz, died in 1940. In later years, she lived in Preeceville. She was married in 1942 to Harry Dmytriw, who died in 1952. She married again1955 to William Chekowy, who died in 1966. Two daughters survive her, Isabelle Bobyk in Poland, Helen Budnick of Sturgis; sons, Joe Babiarz of Sturgis, Ted of Toronto and Pete of Vancouver; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. CHERNIAWSKY � Dokitsa Cherniawsky age 90 of Preeceville and formerly of Sturgis, died on February 1, 1991 in Preeceville Hospital. Funeral service held in Holy Trinity Orthodox Church and burial in Spring Valley Cemetery. Born on February 16, 1900 in Kamena, Ukraine, she came to Canada with her parents in 1903 to a farm north of Sturgis. She went to work at the early age of 13. On March 6, 1919 she married George Cherniawsky at Preeceville. They homesteaded on a farm near Danbury. In 1924, they moved to a farm northeast of Sturgis, where she lived until 1988 when she moved to the Lion�s Hostel in Preeceville. Predeceased by her parents, Metro and Mary Sullivan in 1913 and 1946; her husband George in 1948; two sisters, Dolly and Katrena ; five brothers, Alex, Harry, George, Nick and Bill and an infant daughter in 1919, she is survived by a son William (Lila) of Sturgis; a brother John Sullivan of Florida; six sisters, Betty Culos of Kelowna, Eva Tureski of Kingston, ON, Ann Lesanko of Sturgis, Alice Gregory of Preeceville, Pauline of Kotowich of Kingston and Rose Guibout of Kingston; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. CONTANTINESCU � Florence (Flora) Contantinescu came to Canada in 1912 from Bukovina, Romania, with her husband, Sofron and children, Tenny, Sadie, John, Leavie (Rose), Verna, and Nick. A seventh child, Jim was born on May 26, 1912 on the ship. They took a homestead in Saskatchewan in the Brookview district and did mixed farming until 1936. Five more children were born to them; Ema, Ted, Dorothy, Edward and Mary. Florence was born in 1878 and passed away in 1937. CONSTANTINESCU � James Constantinescu, 56 of Endeavour, died of a heart attack, when he was working at a logging camp near Bertwell. The funeral was held in Godfrey�s Funeral Chapel and burial in Spring Valley Cemetery. James was born in Germany, when his parents were enroute from Romania to Canada in 1912. He was raised in the Endeavour district and engaged in the logging industry. Predeceased by his parents, a brother John and a sister, Sadie, he is survived by three brothers, Nick of Tisdale, Theodore of White Rock, AB and Edward of Saskatoon; seven sisters, Mrs. George Fedoriuk of Preeceville, Rose Cerniuk of Endeavour, Verna and Francis of Windsor, ON, Mrs. E. Strijack of Flin Flon, Dorothy Melwyk of Kelowna, BC and May Johnson of Penticton. CONTANTINESCU � Saffron Contantinescu was born in Romania and came to Canada in 1912, with his wife Flora and seven children. They came directly to the Brookview School district and settled on a farm. They farmed until 1936, when sickness forced them to sell. Five more children were born to them in Canada. Saffron passed away on November 30, 1947 at the age of 79 years. DRONYK � Domnika Dronyk was born on September 1919 on the family homestead, north of Sturgis. She was the daughter of John & Katrina Dronyk. She lived only a few days and died on September 26, 1919. DRONYK � Maria Dronyk, the daughter of John and Katrina Dronyk (parents later changed the spelling of their last name to Droneck) was born March 25, 1915 and died June 27, 1915. FEDERUK � Trandakira (Tennie) Federuk, age 71, died in the Preeceville Hospital on May 24, 1970. Funeral held in Godfrey�s Funeral Home Chapel. Tennie Contantinescu was born in Romania in June 1898, and came to Canada with her parents in 1912. Th same year she married Alexander Patraschuk, who died in 1928. In 1936, she married George Federuik and they farmed in the Usherville district until 1966, when they retired to live at Preeceville. Predeceased by a daughter, Mrs. Florence Armbuster of Melville, she is survived by her husband George; a daughter, Mrs. Georgina Harris of Campbell River, BC; four sons, Fred Patraschuk of Preeceville, William Patraschuk of Edmonton, Stephen Patraschuk of Regina and Victor Patraschuk of Victoria, BC; five sisters, Rose Cerniuk of Endeavour, Verna Frances of Windsor, ON. Ema Strijack of Flin Flon, Dorothy Melwicks of Eckville, AB and Mary Dondale of Penticton, BC; three brothers, Nick of New Westminister, Fred of White Court, AB and Edward of Saskatoon; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. GERMAN � George James German age 62, died on November 16 1974 in a highway accident. Born on the farm of his parents, Peter and Polly German, 9 � miles east of Endeavour. He received his public school education at Beaver Bank School. He later became a trustee of that school district and served for many years. In 1935 he married Mary Folwark of the Endeavour district. He farmed the family farm and spent a year, 1944-45 at Govenlock, SK. After he returned he and his brother, John farmed as partners on their own farm near the home farm for about 30 years. In 1972, he retired and moved to Sturgis. He was employed as caretaker of the Skating rink, worked as a farmhand and helped friends with odd jobs. In 1970 when the Man/SK Radio Club was formed, he became a member and was known by his call number to his radio friends. Predeceased by his wife in 1969, his mother in 1944, his father in 1969 and a sister in infancy, he is survived by three sons, Peter, who farms the family farm at Endeavour, and Adam and Ivan of Prince Rupert, BC; three daughters, Georgina Melnyk of Montmartre, Josephine Lyzun of Yorkton and Evangeline of Regina; a brother John of Endeavour; two sisters, Mary Laroque of Birch River and Margaret Folwark of Flin Flon and five grandchildren. GERMAN � John German, 70 of Preeceville and formerly of Endeavour, passed away on November 9, 1984 in the Canora Union Hospital. Born on December 8, 1913 at Endeavour, he was the son of George and Polly German. He was educated at Beaver Bank School and Sturgis High School. Since 1935, he farmed in the Endeavour district. On November 15, 1942, he married Petrina Folward. German was a member of the United Grain Growers and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church at Endeavour. Predeceased by his parents; a sister, Anna in infancy and a brother, George, he is survived by three sons, William of Sturgis, Ronald of Prince Rupert and Eugene of Endeavour; two daughers, Marianne Brennan of Smithers, BC and Judith Karcha of Yorkton; two sisters, Mary Larocque of Birch River and Margaret Folwark of Flin Flon and 11 grandchildren. GERMAN � Mary G. German, 56 of Endeavour, passed away in the Preeceville Hospital on August 13, 1969, after receiving the holy sacrament and the last rites of the Church administered by Rev. Chrustawka of Hyas. Funeral service held in the Greek Orthodox All Saints Church at Endeavour. Burial was in Spring Valley Cemetery. Mary Folwark was born in the Endeavour district at the farm of her parents, Nick and Titania Folwark. She attended the Lillian School for four years, leaving school at an early age to help her parents with the farm work. In 1935, she married George J. German of Endeavour district and they farmed nine miles east of Endeavour, where her husband and remaining family still live, with the exception of one year when they lived at Govenlock, SK. Predeceased by a brother and sister in infancy, she is survived by her husband; three daughters, Mrs. John Melnyk of Regina, Mrs. Sid Lyzun of Preeceville and Evangeline at home; three sons, Peter and Ivan at home and Adam of Prince Rupert, BC; two grandchildren, Garry and Marlin Lyzun; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Folwark; six brothers, Peter of Swan River, William of Flin Flon, Albert of Roblin, John and Martin of Regina and Mike of Prince George, BC; six sisters, Anne Lozinsky of Lady Lake, Petrina German of Endeavour, Lillian Falke of Etobicoke, ON, Rose Flannigan of Scarborough, ON, Adeline Key of Red Deer and Sylvia Carpenter of Thompson. GERMAN � Paraska "Polly" German was born on August 28, 1890 in Derchewti, Ukraine to Todor and Maria (Boychuk) German. At the age of twenty-one she came to Canada with her father, stepmother Anniza/Anna, (her mother died in the Ukraine around 1906), her sister Olexsandra and brother Fred, who was ten. The family settled in the area now known as the Brookview School district. She married sometime around 1911 or 1912 to Peter German and they raised four children, George J., John G., Mary and Annie twins (Annie died shortly after birth) and Margaret. While her husband was working at Govenlock, SK, Paraska and the children moved there as well for a period of time and then moved back to the farm. Paraska died of cancer in October 1944. GERMAN � Peter Sr. German was born July 1, 1889 in Chernowitz, Western Ukraine to George and Anneza (Kobelka) German. He came to Canada in 1909 at the age of twenty years. He homesteaded land in the Brookview district. He cleared his land and worked at other jobs in the area. He saved enough money to send for his mother and his fifteen-year-old sister, Mary in 1911. Around 1911 or 1912, Peter married Paraska German (no relative). His children were George, John and twins Mary and Annie. (Annie died shortly after birth.) In 1920 the family moved nine miles east of Endeavour in the Beaver Bank area. It was here that another child was born, a daughter named Margaret. Peter worked for the CPR and was stationed at Gavenlock, SK. in 1921. In 1933, Peter built a modern two-storey house on the farm. Peter retired from the CPR, when his wife died of cancer in 1944. Peter moved off the farm and into Endeavour around 1956 and in 1966, he moved into the senior hostel in Preeceville. He passed away on January 28, 1969 MASLEY � Mary Masley, 67 of Sturgis, passed away on October 2, 1988 at the Regina General Hospital. Funeral service was held in the Sturgis Legion Hall and burial in Spring Valley Cemetery. Mary was born on January 1, 1921 at Sturgis. She attended Cavell School, nine miles north of Sturgis. On August 24, 1949, she married Morris Masley at St. John Lutheran Church in Preeceville and they farmed in the area. She enjoyed gardening and knitting. Predeceased by her parents, John and Alley in 1984 and a sister Lena, in 1947, she is survived by her husband; four sons, Wade (Joan), Brian (Lil) and Perry (Shelley) all of Sturgis and Craig (Debbie) of Red Deer, AB; a daughter, Debbie (Walter) Downs of Lady Lake, and 13 grandchildren. NAROSKI � George Naroski, 87 of Preeceville, passed away on July 7, 1972 in Preeceville Hospital after a long illness. He was born on May 6, 1885 in the Ukraine and came to Canada at the age of 25. In 1915 he married Mrs. Mary Sullivan, a widow with eight children. To this union were born seven children, John of Waren, Mich., Bill of Thunder Bay, Alice Gregory of Preeceville, Ann Lesanko of Sturgis, Pauline Kotowich of Kingston, ON, Rose Guilbould of Montreal and Elsie of Kelowna, BC. George had been in ill health for a year. In August of last year he entered the Lions Hostel at Preeceville and then in May he was admitted to the hospital. He farmed at Sturgis for several years and worked as a labourer until his retirement. His wife died in 1946. OKRAINETZ � Eva Okrainetz, 31 of New Westminister, died on December 25, 1971. The funeral was held in the Sturgis United Church and burial in Spring Valley Cemetery. A memorial service was also held at Queen�s Avenue United Church at New Westminister on December 31st. She was born at Sturgis on August 10, 1940 and attended Woodlight School from 1946 to 1954 and graduated from Sturgis Composite School in 1959. She began her nurses� training in 1963. She then worked as a public health nurse at Prince Rupert for a year. Miss Okrainetz attended the University of British Columbia and did private duty nursing before her employment in the pediatrics ward of the Royal Colombian Hospital. She is survived by her mother, Mary of Canora; 10 brothers, Bob, Sandy, Fred, Edward, Emerson and Andy of Vancouver, Peter and Benny of Edmonton, Eric of Lashburn, SK and Leo of Canora; four sisters, Sylvia of Toronto, Lena and Rose of Thunder Bay and Lillian of Canora. OKRAINETZ � Harry Okrainetz the son of John and Mary Okrainetz, was born in 1918 and died in 1919. He was buried in Spring Valley Cemetery. OKRAINETZ � John Okrainetz passed away November 19, 1968 in Preeceville Hospital. Funeral held in Sturgis Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church. Burial was in Spring Valley Cemetery. Born in Austria in 1884, he served three years in the army. John and his younger brother, Metro came to Canada in 1909 and lived in the Woodlight district north of Sturgis. In 1911 he took up farming. He married Mary Antonovich in 1913 and they lived on the farm until 1964, when they retired and moved to Sturgis. Besides his wife, he is survived by 10 sons, Bob, Eddie, Emerson and Sandy of North Burnaby, BC, Peter an Benny of Sturgis, Leo of Canora, Andy of McKenzie, BC and Eric of Lashburn, SK; five daughters, Eva of New Westminister, Lillian Shymoski of Canora, Lena Hearn and Rose Green of Fort Williams and Sylvia Smith of Sarnia; 53 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Three children died while very young. OKRAINETZ � Mary Okrainetz the daughter of John and Mary Okrainetz was born/died in 1942 and buried in Spring Valley Cemetery. OKRAINETZ � Victoria Okrainetz was born on the family homestead in 1921 to parents John and Mary Okrainetz. She attended the Woodlight School from 1929-34. She passed away in 1934 from pneumonia at the age of thirteen. PATRASCHUK � Frederick Alexander Patraschuk 63, of Preeceville, died February 28, 1980 at the Preeceville Hospital. Funeral held from Godfrey�s Funeral Home Chapel. Born at Usherville, he attended school there and worked on his parent�s farm until the war. He enlisted in the armed forces but was rejected because of health reasons, so he worked during the war at Moose Jaw. After the war he worked for a time on a farm at Benito, and then for the department of highways at Whitewood. He spent several years with his mother and stepfather on the farm at Usherville and when they sold the farm, he moved with them to Preeceville. He spent the last several years as a resident of the Lions Hostel at Preeceville. Predeceased by his father, mother, two sisters and a brother, he is survived by his stepfather, George Federiuk of Preeceville and two brothers Bill of Edmonton and Steve of Regina. PENIUK - Mary (nee Tymochko) Peniuk, 70, passed away December 4, 1977 in the Norquay Hospital. Funeral service was held in St. John's Ukrainian Orthodox Church at Hyas. Born in the Western Ukraine, she came to Canada as an infant with her parents, who settled north of Stenen. She married George Peniuk at Stenen and they farmed north of Sturgis until 1963, when they retired and moved to Sturgis. In 1972, she moved to Hyas. Predeceased by her husband in 1968, she is survived by two sons, August of Campbell River, BC and Bill of Victoria, BC; a daughter, Annie Simpson of Nanaimo; three brothers, Pete Tymochko of Vancouver and Joseph and Bill Tymochko of Toronto; three sisters, Bertha Karney of Nanaimo, Pearl Horoholyn of Duncan, BC and Ann Zubko of Birch River, MB; and five grandchildren. PREKASKI � Alice (Allie) Prekaski, 84 of Sturgis, died on October 1, 1984 in the Preeceville Hospital. Born in the Ukraine on April 10, 1900, at the age of 3, she came to Canada with her parents, Metro and Mary Prekaski. In 1917, she married John Prekaski. They farmed for a few years in the Sturgis area then moved to Cheeku, Calif. It was only several years before they returned to Sask. and to the farm where she lived the rest of her life. Prekaski was noted for hr career as a pioneer housewife. Her chores included keeping care of the livestock, a large garden and a fruit orchard. Making preserves was a yearly task. She spun her own yarn for knitting and carded wool for making quilts. She also did a lot of crocheting. Predeceased by her husband in February and four children, she is survived by a daughter, Mary Masley of Sturgis; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Dolly Hrynshyn, Pauline Andrechuk, Ann Peniuk, Rose Kandel and Margaret Shaffrick; five brothers, Nick Prekaski, George Dupont, Fred, Leo and Milliard Prekaski. PREKASKI � John Prekaski, age 90 of Sturgis, passed away on February 7, 1984 in the Plains Health Centre, Regina. Born on August 29, 1893 in the village of Koczurmore, he country of Chernovetz Western Ukraine, he came to Canada with his family in 1903 and took up farming north of Sturgis. He then moved to California for one year, working in the gold mines, and returned to Sturgis, went back farming and was a cattle buyer. He married Alley Prekaski on September 13, 1917 in the Preeceville United Church. Predeceased by a daughter, Lena in 1947; two brothers, Nick in 1962 and Mike in 1948 and his father, Wasyl in 1941; he is survived by his wife, Alley; a daughter, Mary Masley of Sturgis; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. PREKASKI � Mary Prekaski, a resident of the Canora Lodge and formerly of Stenen, passed away peacefully March 22, 2007, with family at her side at the Canora Hospital. She was 97 years old. Funeral was held in St. Demetrius Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Stenen, SK. Mary was born on June 26, 1909 the daughter of Ann (Boyko) and Anton Bugera and raised in the Parkerview district and Chekow district of Sask. She married Nick Wasyl Prekaski in January 1939. They farmed in the Sturgis and Preeceville districts. In the fall of 1962 Mary and Nick moved to Stenen. She lived in Stenen until October 1996, when she became a resident of the Gateway Lodge in Canora. Mary was a homemaker, who enjoyed gardening, cooking and raising her family She loved to embroider and spool knit. She was an active member of St. Demetrius Orthodox Church. Predeceased by her parents, her daughter Dolly in 1950; her husband, Nick in 1963; a sister Lena and stepsister Anne; stepbrother, Peter Mike. Mary will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Edward (Sally) of Yorkton, Elizabeth of Stenen, Bill (Joyce) of Sturgis, Harry (Bonnie) of Stenen, Jack (Joan) of Tumbler Ridge, BC and Irene (Wayne) of The Pas, MB; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; step sister Rose and step brother Sam. SNIHOR � Annie (nee Zwidza) Snihor, 72 of Sturgis, passed away May 19, 1980. Funeral service held in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Sturgis and burial in Spring Valley Cemetery. She came to Canada with her parents, Lena and Wasyl Zwidza, in 1914 and they settled in the Stenen area. In 1923, she married George Snihor. They lived in Alberta and BC and returned to farm in the Endeavour district. In 1962, they retired and moved to Sturgis. Predeceased by her husband in 1975, an infant son in 1924, her father in 1914 and her mother in 1969, she is survived by two daughters, Doris Watermanchuk of Sherwood Park and Alice Prokop of Yorkton; three sons, Willie of Rocky Mountain House, Sandy of Radium Hot Springs and Mike of Brandon; and nine grandchildren. SNIHOR � George Snihor, 75 of Sturgis, passed away on March 9, 1975 in Preeceville Hospital. Funeral held in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church at Sturgis. George came to Canada in 1911 with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Snihor, who settled on a farm north of Sturgis. In 1923 he married Annie Zwizda and they lived in Alberta and BC, until returning to farm in the Endeavour area. In 1962, they retired and moved to Sturgis. Predeceased by a brother, Bill in May 1974, a sister Doris in January 1975 and an infant son in 1924, he is survived by his wife; two daughters, Doris (Peter) Watermanchuk of Edmonton and Alice (John) Prokop of Yorkton; three sons, William of Armstrong, BC, Sandy of Radium hot Springs, BC and Mike of Fort Providence, NWT, and nine grandchildren SNIHOR � Jenny Snihor born/died March 1940. Parents were Wasyl and Mary Snihor. She was buried in Spring Valley Cemetery. SNIHOR � Michael Snihor, the son of George and Annie Snihor was born August 4, 1924 and died September 17, 1924. He was buried in Spring Valley Cemetery. SNIHOR � Oleksa (Alexander) Snihor was born March 18, 1864 in Toporiutski, Cherniutsi, Bukovina. After serving three years in the Astro Hungarian he married Zanhira Salahub in Bukovina around 1890. They had five children, two of which died in infancy. The others were Domnika born 1894, George in 1899 and Wasyl in 1902. Sometime after 1902, Alex came to Canada and worked for a while and then returned home to his family. He sailed again to Canada, working to earn enough money to bring his family over. They arrived back in 1908 and the following year purchased a homestead on April 2nd in the Sturgis district. In 1915, he gave up his homestead to his son, George and he and his wife settled further north on a farm. Alex worked in the bush and for other farmers to supplement their income. In 1930, he was no longer able to farm. He died on Aug. 24, 1943 in the Queen Victoria Hospital in Yorkton. His wife moved to live with her daughter and died in June 1964 and was buried at the Murrayville Cemetery near Langley, BC. STRIJACK � Dominica Strijack age 84, passed away August 17, 1974 in the Preeceville Hospital. She was born in Cernawatz, Bokovina Romania in 1889. She was married in 1906 to George Strijack. They arrived in Regina in 1912 and lived there until 1919 and then move to the Sturgis district where they farmed. There were nine children born by this marriage. Her husband predeceased her in 1938. In 1940, she married Mike Midock. They retired from the farm in 1947 and moved into the town of Sturgis. She was predeceased by two daughters, two sons, a grand daughter and three great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband; four sons, Wasyle Strijack of Endeavour, Don Strijack of Flin Flon, Mike Strijack of Sturgis and Eli Strijack of Whitehorse, Yukon; a daughter Rose Krueger of Victoria, BC; 15 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren. STRIJACK � Erna (nee Constantenescu) Strijack, 59 of Flin Flon and formerly of Sturgis, passed away on May 18, 1975 in hospital at Flin Flon. Funeral service held in St. James Anglican Church in Flin Flon and burial in Spring Valley Cemetery, about 15 miles north of Sturgis. Born at Sturgis, she married Donald Strijack, residing in Flin Flon since 1950. She was an active member of the St. James Anglican Church Women. Predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Safron Constantenescu; three sisters, Leavy Cernuik, Tenny Frederick and Veronica Frances; two brothers, James and Ted, she is survived by her husband; three sons, Valerian of Aldergrove, BC, Leonard of Winnipeg and Jerry of Flin Flon; two sisters, Dorothy Kult of Kelowna and Mary Dondale of Penticton; two brothers, Nick of Penticton and Edward of Saskatoon; and four grandchildren. STRIJAK � Nick Strijack of Endeavour, passed away peacefully at the Preeceville long tern care on March 1, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born to Wasyl an Alice (Trebick) Strijak on December 18, 1936 on the family farm near Endeavour. He received his education at Brookview School and Sturgis High School, where he received his grade 12. Nick had many jobs throughout his life. He worked for a short time at a nickel mine at Thompson, MB. He went to BC and worked falling timber and in private saw mills. While working in BC he met Pauline Roth. They were married March 20, 1962 at Williams Lake, BC. They moved back to their farm east of Endeavour in the summer of 1962. This is where they raised their family and started farming. Besides farming, Nick worked driving cat, hauling gravel, lumber and working for logging contractors in the area. Eventually he bought his own equipment and with his sons worked for Macmillan Blodel and Weyerhaeuser. After he started working with his sons in the late 70�s, his main job was over seeing everything, driving truck an running a lot of errands to keep things running. In 1999 Nick and Pauline moved from their farm to Endeavour. He came back to the farm everyday to bring the mail. Nick was able to stay at his home in Endeavour until October 2010, with the help of family members and home care. Nick was predeceased by his wife Pauline in 2006; his daughter, Jessica and Alexandria in infancy; a grandson Rueben in infancy; a brother George. Nick is survived by his sons, Terry of Preeceville, Clifford of Endeavour, Curtis of Preeceville and Nick of Endeavour; a daughter Christine (Robert) Braithwaite of Preeceville; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Karcha of Lady Lake and Helen Schotts of Weyburn; brothers, Victor and David of Edmonton; Funeral services were held at Trinity United Church in Preeceville. STRIJAK � Pauline Strijak passed away December 12, 2006 at the Preeceville Hospital. Funeral service held at Trinity United church in Preeceville and interment at Spring Valley Cemetery. Pauline was born Mar. 6, 1941 to Peter and Barbara Roth in Allan, SK and was educated in Osoyoos, BC. She taught swimming lessons an worked in a cannery at Osoyoos and cooked in a restaurant in Victoria, BC After Pauline and Nick were married on March 20, 1962 at Williams Lake, they moved back to Sask. to their farm east of Endeavour. She was involved in the farming operation, raising their children, and in the early 80�s cooked for two winters in camp for the family logging business. In 1999 Pauline and Nick moved from their farm to Endeavour. She is predeceased by brothers John 1997, Frank in 1994, Gerry in 1998 and Phillip in 1969; a sister Ida Roth, father Peter Roth in 1960 and her mother Barbara in 1984, two daughters (under one year old) Jessica Strijak and Alexandria Strijak, and one grandchild Ruben Braithwaite. Pauline is survived by her husband Nick, her sons, Terry, Clifford, Curtis, and Nick and daughter Christine Braithwaite; brothers, Peter (Joan), Egnet and Adam Roth; her sisters Lena Mager and Lillian Hills both of Osoyoos, BC, Barbara Desautels of Kamloops, Ann Marshall of Salmon Arm, Liz Leroux of Medicine Hat, AB and Minnie Strijak of Kamloops; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. STRIJACK � Wasyl Strijak, 82 of the Prairie Unit in Yorkton and formerly of Endeavour, passed away on October 15, 1992 at his home. Funeral was held at the Trinity United Church in Preeceville. Born on February 18, 1910 in Bokevina, Romania to George and Dora Strijak, his family moved to Canada in 1920. He was educated in Regina. Besides farming in the Endeavour district, he worked at various saw mills and pulp mills. He married Alice Trebish on June 11, 1933 in Usherville. Predeceased by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, his wife, a daughter Evelyn, a son George and three grandchildren. Three sons survive him, Nick of Endeavour and David and Victor of Edmonton; two daughters, Helen Liebel of Weyburn and Mary Karcha of Preeceville; 30 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. TURESKI � Katie Tureski, 87 of Canora Gateway Lodge and formerly of Sturgis, passed away January24, 2000 at Canora Hospital. Funeral held at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Sturgis. Born October 12, 1912, in Lady Lake, she attended Brookview School. She worked as a farm labourer near Moose Jaw and married Steve Tureski in 1939. They farmed east of Sturgis and retired to Sturgis in 1977. She became a resident of Gateway Lodge in 1992. Predeceased by her parents, Peter and Alice Zemeniuk, her husband, Steve on June 19, 1986, a son Peter on November 24, 1998 and an infant son and infant daughter, she is survived by two sons, William of Chetwynd, BC and Harry of Sturgis; seven daughters, Rose Marie Pelletier, Pauline Stoski, Marie Cathgart of Calgary, Ethel Tureski of Preeceville, Lillian Gogol of Lady Lake, Caroline Procyk of Montemarte and Eileen Yufrym of Danbury; 23 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. TURESKI � Marie Tureski was born in Sturgis in 1941 to Steve and Katie Tureski. She passed away in 1941. A graveside service was held on July 3rd at Spring Valley Cemetery with family and friends. Survived by sisters, Rosemarie, Pauline (Ed), Ethel (Eugene), Lillian (Ed), Carol (Boris), Eileen (Lonnie); brothers, William and Harry; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. TURESKI � Peter Tureski 58 of Sturgis, passed away on November 24,1998 at Preeceville Hospital. Funeral was held in the Preeceville Funeral Home. Born on February 4, 1940 in Sturgis, he was educated at home by his parents, and later began working on the family farm. The last eight years of his life he was involved with the Mackenzie Society Workshop in Preeceville. Predeceased by his father Steve on June 19, 1986, he is survived by his mother Katie of Canora; two brothers, William (Elaine) of Chetwynd, BC, and Harry (Carole) of Sturgis; seven sisters, Rose Marie Pettetier of Edmonton, Pauline (Ed) Stotski of Pouce Coupe, BC, Marie (Dave) Cathcart of Calgary, Ethel Tureski of Preeceville, Lillian (Ed) Gogal of Lady Lake, Caroline (Boris) Procyk of Montmartre and Eileen (Lonnie) Yufrym of Danbury. TURESKI � Steve Tureski, 88 of the Lions Hostel at Preeceville and formerly of Sturgis, passed away at Preeceville Hospital on June 19, 1986. Funeral service was held in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church at Sturgis. He was born on September 3, 1897, in Ukraine and was educated there. He worked as a coal miner in Alberta and farmed in the Sturgis area after coming to Canada. He married Katie Zemauk in the Spring Valley Ukrainian Orthodox Church in 1936. Predeceased by his parents and two sisters, he is survived by his wife; three sons, Peter of Sturgis, Harry of Preeceville and William of Chetwynd, BC; nine daughters, Rose Marie of Edmonton, Pauline of Fort St. John, BC, Marie of Calgary, Ethel of Yorkton, Lillian of Lady Lake, Caroline of Montmarte, Eileen of Danbury and Victoria and Rose of Vancouver; 23 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. |
