ABELLO - Genevieve Theresa "Jean" (nee Harty), our beloved mother, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2009 at the Regina Lutheran Home in Regina at the age of 93. Predeceased by her husband, Constant in 1988; and son, Andrew (Audrey) in 1991; she is also predeceased by five brothers: Andrew, Henry, Wendell, Joseph and Leonard Harty; three sisters: Rose Robertson, Regina Balog and Rita Fluter; and sisters-in-law: Agnes, Frieda and Shirley Harty. Jean is survived by her children: one son, Valentine (Sandra) of Edmonton; daughters: Mary-Ann Dube (Albert), Yvonne Schalk (Edwin) of Regina, Bernadette Schalk (Herbert) and Charlene Douglas (Dave) of Moose Jaw; foster children: Bob Abello (Gale) of Surrey, Laurie Mayer (Jeff) of Lac La Biche and Dale Kennedy of Calgary; 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers: Paul (Rose), Adam (Florence), Alphonse (Clara), Ted, Tony (Hilda) and Bert (Marion); sister, Lea Gessell (Fred); sisters-in-law, Rita and Phyllis Harty; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jean was born at Sedley, SK on March 28, 1915. She was a devoted wife and mother whose interests always revolved around her family. She enjoyed designing clothes, sewing for her family and making quilts for her grandchildren. Jean was kind and gentle and spunky. She had a sense of humor and an inner wisdom which her children loved and respected. Jean enjoyed singing in the Seniors Choir when she lived in Embury Heights. They performed at many seniors locations around the city. She was a member of the CWL for 69 years. ADAMS - James Elwyn "Jamie", formerly of Weyburn and Sedley, SK, passed away peacefully at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre on Sunday, September 8, 2002 at the age of 36 years. Predeceased by his grandparents; brother Jonathan in 1995; and infant brother in 1956. He is survived by his parents Joe and Dorothy Adams of Sedley, SK; brothers Jeff of Bragg Creek, AB, and Joel (daughter Falon) of Cochrane, AB; sisters Jennifer of Regina and Carol (Alex) and children Jackson, Danny and Nahanni of Yellow Knife, N.W.T.; and foster sister Ashley at home. The Memorial Mass will be held in Our Lady of Grace R.C. Church, Sedley, SK at 10:00 AM, with Rev. Louis Abello and Rev. Peter Pham, concelebrating. ADAMS - Joseph John "Joe", late of Sedley, SK passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 7, 2008, 11 days short of his 83rd birthday. Interment will follow in the Sedley Cemetery, Sedley, SK. ADAMS - Magdalena "Lena". On Monday, September 25, 2000 Magdalena Adams, late of Regina, Sask., passed away at the age of 96 years. The good Lord ended her suffering and took her home. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, sisters and husband Percy in 1969, son Martin in 1998 and grandson Johnathan. Lena is survived by her sons Joseph (Dorothy) of Sedley, Peter, Rudie and Wayne (Loreen) Krieger, all of Regina; daughters Helen Benedick of Denver, Colorado, Mary (Frank) Weismiller of Willow Bunch and Doris (Rochus) Klein of Regina; daughter-in-law Audrey and sister-in-law Helen Neisz of Regina, twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. BAKER - Catherine Baker, late of Radville, SK. passed away on Monday, November 13, 2000 at the age of 86 years. Louis Abello presiding. BAST - Kenneth B. On Sunday, December 23, 2007 Kenneth B. Bast, late of Regina, SK passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 69 years. Predeceased by his mother Rose Wasylenki, father John J. Bast and sister Ellen, Ken is survived by his loving wife Fran, daughter Guylaine, son Darcy, brother Bill of Edmonton, sisters Mary Louise of Edmonton and Rose Marie (Larry) Anderson of Regina and several nieces and nephews. Our "Grama Dynamite's" spark went out on the morning of Sunday, March 31, 2013 at the Pasqua Hospital with her grandson by her side. Born January 26, 1931 she was predeceased in 1999 by her husband of 50 years Norman, her sisters Beatrice and Iris (Darwin), her brothers Johnny, Lloyd (Kate) and Carlton (Lena), her grandson Kirk in 1993 and her close friend Bill Cozman. She is survived by her daughter Lynn (Dieter) Pelzer, son Gregory (Sharon) Bechard, grandchildren James (Erin) Pelzer, Kelly (Susan) Pelzer, Cortne (Brian Johnston) Pelzer, Brandy Bechard, Aimee (Shane) Geysen, and Dean Bechard; she will also be missed by her great-grandchildren Aurora, Jordon, Chandler, Kale, Tucker, Korbin, Jade, Kaeden, Benett and Mitchell. Also left to celebrate her life is her very special Niece Gail Schoenthaler and family as well as many other nieces and nephews from the Schwab and Bechard families. Grandma lived her life to the absolute fullest, on her terms and with no apologies. She was married in 1949 to Norman Bechard and over their 50 years together they farmed, owned a construction/road building company and owned and operated a gas station & restaurant. They enjoyed their many years at Katepwa Lake with family and numerous close friends, and throughout their life they were snowbirds deciding after retirement to stay half the year in Mesa, AZ. Interment will be at a later date (too much snow). BECHARD - Evelyn (nee Hall) August 29, 1932 - May 8, 2013. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Evelyn Bechard formerly of Sedley, Sask. Predeceased by her parents Mildred and Milton Hall; brother Ronald Hall; brothers-in-law Roland Lefebvre, Don Galan and nephew Danny Lefebvre; she leaves to honour and celebrate her life Leonard Bechard her loving husband of 57 years; her daughters Carmen Dybwad (Don Havelock) and Leanne (Steve) Lucyk and the grandchildren she so adored and who in return adored her, Anne-Marie Dybwad, Jeff Lucyk, Madeleine Lucyk and Chris (Laura) Lucyk. Evelyn�s passing leaves to mourn her siblings Marlene (Gordon) Galan, Priscilla Galan and Charles (Connie) Hall and in-laws Alfred (Rose) Bechard, Blanche Lefebvre, Robert (Aileen) Bechard and Eloise (Jean-Claude) Morneau and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Geographically she may not have moved far from having grown up on a dairy farm at McLean and then moving not so many miles away to a grain farm at Sedley, but the range of her intellect and knowledge was far reaching. A voracious reader she made light work of the Encyclopedia Britannia A-Z, cover to cover - which no doubt contributed to her ability to complete flawlessly, in ink, the most difficult crossword puzzles and defeat all comers at Scrabble. Her cooking and sewing skills were legendary (her pies were most sought after at the local Fall Supper) and lovingly passed them along to her grandchildren. It was a privilege to know her, to call her wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She will be missed but never forgotten. And just so there is no mistake: St. Peter, when she arrives at your Pearly Gates the code word is 'Granky' and she above all others deserves to be admitted. Evelyn's last days were made comfortable by the exceptional staff at the Regina General Hospital, in particular the nurses on 5A (Sheila you were our rock), SICU and 6A, whose compassion and care are very much appreciated by her family BECHARD - Ida Amelia (nee Trudeau). On Saturday, November 15, 2003 Ida passed away peacefully at the Regina Pasqua Hospital at the age of 79 years. Ida was predeceased by her husband, Aurele; her parents, Jean Baptiste Trudeau and Lucienne Morin. She is survived by her brothers, Sylvan (Leona) Trudeau and Rene (Charmaine) Morin; sisters, Yvonne (Albert) Hellyer and Cecille (Wayne) Evenson. She is also survived by one daughter, Charlaine (Terry) Zborowski; one granddaughter, Janelle (Andrew) and one great grandson, Carter. BECHARD - Germaine (nee Rose) October 9, 1916 - November 8, 2012. Germaine passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 8, 2012. Predeceased by her husband, Jerome; her son Gilles; her parents Lord and Marie Rose; brother Romeo (Suzanne) Poissant and her sister Juliette (Paul) Bechard. Left to cherish her memory are her son Clem (Diane) and their children Michelle (Darren ) Brooke, Haley and Riley Carroll, Lise (Grant) Katelyn and Dawson Fuller, Jerome (Rhonda) Alex and Kiley Bechard, Martin (Marlyss) Mackenzie and Rylan Bechard and AD Bechard; her daughter Jocelyne (Al) Ash and their children Francine (Ray) Amanda, Stefanie (Mike) and their children Emery, Liam and Charliee; Sam (Blair) and Ben Flahr, Jackie (Craig) Kertai, Gisele Ash (Grant) Scott (Dani) Abby Ash. She is also survived by close family, nieces and nephews and their families. Germaine grew up on a farm near Riceton. She then married Jerome in 1936 and moved to the family farm near Lajord, SK. Was a CWL member for over 50 years at Our Lady of Grace Parish in Sedley, SK. She moved to Regina in 1995 following Jerome�s death. BECHARD - Paul Emile Bechard (July 20, 1918 - August 31, 3011). Fr. Paul, priest of Madonna House Aposolate died peacefully on August 31, 2011 at Our Lady of the Visitation St. Mary's in Combermere, On. This year celebrating 66 years of priesthood. Born in Sedley, Sask. he is predeceased by his parents Exupere and Marie Louise (Gibeau) Bechard, brothers Gabreil. Marcelle, Jerome and Dr. Jean Benoit. Left to mourn Fr. Paul is niece Jocelyne (Al) Ash, Pat Bechard (Desi), nephews Clement (Diane), Come (Jackie), Jean Gilles (Nadine) Bechard, sister-in-law Germaine and Lise also several grand & great nephews and nieces. BITZ - Angelina (nee Ell) passed away at Parkside Extendicare on Saturday, September 29, 2007 at the age of 97 years. Predeceased by her husband, Frank in 1965; infant son, Charles in 1944; brother and sister-in-law, Henry (1965) and Mary (1959) Ell; sister and brother-in-law, Katherine (1997) and Peter (1980) Bitz; and sister-in-law, Margaret Ell in 2001. Angelina is survived by her brother, John Ell; two sisters, Mary Dunford and Amelia Roche; four daughters, Monica Anklewich of Delta, BC; Sister Marie Bitz of Saint John, NB, Angela (Bill) Schluchter of Regina and Gwen (Ken) Schmidt of Vancouver, BC; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Angelina was born in Sedley, SK in 1910 and moved to the Holdfast district in 1912 with her parents and two siblings. In 1935, Angelina married Frank Bitz and they farmed in the Holdfast district until 1958 when they moved into Regina. Angelina has resided at Parkside Extendicare since 1999. It is with fond memories that we announce the passing of Ian on Sunday, August 30, 2009 at the age of 50 years. He will be lovingly remembered by daughter Arian Ross; grandson Jacob Ross, mother Norma, sisters Helen and Janet (Dennis) as well as many other family and friends. A private graveside service will take place in Sedley, Saskatchewan. BUTTON - Rhonda Marie (nee Klein), cherished wife of Tim Button, was born on January 2, 1978 and went home to her heavenly Father on August 12, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer. Dearly loved daughter of Harvey and Gloria Klein of Francis, Saskatchewan; loving sister of Tracy and Rich Edmison (Kyle and Sarah), Audrey and Chris Grealish (Chloe and Liam), Bonnie and Donovan Carroll (Matthew, Miranda, Rebecca and Anna), Kevin and Shannon Klein (Kailey) and Jennifer Klein and her fiance Kevin Ward. Rhonda was predeceased by her grandparents, Tony and Anna Klein and will remain forever in the hearts of her surviving grandparents, Steve and Theresa Deck. Rhonda brought great joy to the family of her husband, Tim. She is the treasured daughter-in-law of Karen Button, London and John and Debbie Button, Morpeth. She was a very special sister-in-law to Claire Button and Geoff Matthews. Rhonda was predeceased by grandparents-in-law Jim and Nancy Button and brought much love to surviving grandparents-in-law, Frank and Marion Mills. Rhonda was a graduate of the Royal Military College in Kingston and served her country loyally including a tour of duty with the NATO peace keeping forces in Banja Luka, Bosnia-Hercegovina. Rhonda will be greatly missed by her many childhood friends, her military classmates and colleagues, many aunts, uncles, cousins and all of Tim's extended family and friends. Rhonda lived her life to the fullest and she and Tim found their greatest joy in their marriage and in the short life they had together. Tim was by Rhonda's side throughout her illness. Rhonda loved giving to people in need and it was her heart's desire to find ways to serve and help those less fortunate. In lieu of flowers, Tim, Harvey, Gloria and Rhonda and Tim's families would be honoured if her memory was recognized by donations to the Soul's Harbor Mission House, Box 24025, 1762 Broad St., Regina, Saskatchewan, S4P 4J8. CONNERY - Helen Louise (nee Milligan) was born on March 9, 1922, and passed away peacefully with her son Don and granddaughter Shayna by her side, on Tuesday, March 6, 2001. Predeceased by her parents Manuel and Gladys Milligan and her husband W. J. Helen leaves to cherish her memory her son Donald (Gladis) and granddaughter Shayna. Also surviving are brother Chuck (Helen) and sisters: Edna and Virgie; plus numerous nieces, nephews and very special friends. CONNERY - Leslie James. The family of Leslie James "Les" Connery are sad to announce his passing on Sunday, January 20, 2002. He was born April 25, 1922 on the family farm at Sedley. With saddened hearts, we say goodbye to our dear sister Margaret, who passed away on March 4th, 2010. She was predeceased by her husband Ralph; brothers Bishop Francis Klein, Ambrose, Bartholomew, Fred and Hubert; Sisters Annie Schlosser and Mildred MacMillan. COUPAL - Annie (nee Harsche) passed away peacefully on Thursday August 8, 2002 at the age of 81. Predeceased by her husband Rene (1974), her daughter Vivienne (1941), 3 brothers Edmond, Philip and Johnny and 1 sister Genevieve. Annie is survived by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren: Clermont (Helen) Coupal, and their sons Scott (Linda); Curtis and his children Amanda and Geoffery; Marilyn (Robert) Gendur and their sons Ian and Brian (Minette); Irene (Sam) Connaughty and their daughters Shannon (Curtis) Stange, their children Jordan, Sam, and Maureen (Mark) Kenyon; Shirley Buller, her children Nancy (Roger) Schwarz, and their children Alexander and Nicole; Michael and his son Jason, Bernadette (George Sanson) Obrigewitsch and her son Troy (Brenda) and their son Cody; Renee (Robert) Woytuik and their children Danielle and Shane; Celeste (Kelly) Zander and their children Craig, Myles, Ashton, Brandon and Kayleen. Annie grew up in Sedley. In 1938 she married Rene, and dedicated her life to her family. She worked side by side with Rene at Coupal's Esso in Lajord; retiring to Regina in 1974. When Rene passed away in November of 1974, Annie decided to continue her career with Denro Management until 1989. Annie volunteered at the Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home for many years and devoted these years to helping the residents she considered as her friends. She will always be remembered as our `Hero of the Week'. At 81 years of age she continued to take her strength, compassion, honor, love, generosity and quite often her baking to everyone she loved. Each day started by helping her friends at the Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home. Prayers will be held Monday, August 12, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at the Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home. COUPAL - Gabriel (1916 - 2012). Gabe was predeceased by his parents Hermas and Adele (Lefebvre) of Sedley; his brothers Jean Paul (Dorothy Moss) and Gaston (Mary Campbell); sisters Jeanine and Lucille (Art Comeau) and survived by his youngest brother Bernard "Nippy" (Jeanne Beaudry); loving wife of 67 years Vera (Eastley); six loving and appreciative children: Danny, Maurice (Virginia Sakundiak), Linda (Arnold Skulmoski), Gailene (Lionel Kambeitz), Jerome (Shirley Douglas), and Tina (Wayne Douglas); fourteen grandchildren who called him Pappy; and eight great- grandchildren. Gabe spent many happy hours in his grandchildren�s company, introducing them to many of life�s joys, such as flying, farming, and ice cream cones. Gabe was very proud of his family. He was also a caring supportive uncle to numerous nieces and nephews and a friend to many. Gabe�s life was full of activity. As a young lad, he was an excellent scholar and well read. However, he chose to leave school, St. Canisius, at Easter time in grade 12. He told many stories of his journey to Victoria in 1934 to join the Navy and continuing his adventures by "riding the rails" across Canada, finding work on several farms along the way. He then worked at the Federal elevator in his hometown of Sedley for several years before finally enlisting in the RCAF in 1939. After flight training in Saskatchewan and England, Gabe was deployed as a pilot of a Blenheim Bomber to Gibraltar, North Africa, Malta, and India - earning the Burma Star, the Africa Star and the India Star campaign medals. His main contribution as "our" Canadian war hero was the bombing of Japanese freighters in the Bay of Bengal during World War II. Gabe renewed his love for flying in 1968 and enjoyed piloting his own Piper Comanche, taking many trips with his family until the early 1980s. His flying legacy lives on in several of his grandsons, including one who is a skilled crop dusting pilot. On July 26, 1944, Gabe married Vera Eastley who was serving as a WREN at Navy HQ in Ottawa. In 1945, Gabe began his life-long career as a farmer in Bechard, SK, and then in 1952 began farming near Sedley, SK where he & Vera created a home for their family. Gabe also worked on the construction of Highway 33 through Sedley and the town skating rink, first tennis court and the curling rink. He served on the Rink Board and was a founding member and Vice President of the Sedley Credit Union established to help local farmers obtain funds to purchase land. Gabe enjoyed a variety of activities, including curling, golfing, playing poker with the boys, fishing, boating, water-skiing, cycling, and reading. Gabe particularly loved to walk and was still walking up to the last week of his life. His love of reading showed in the many books and magazines available in the home, which inspired his family towards achievements in public service and business. Gabe was a classy guy who lived by the virtues of duty, loyalty, persistence, and understanding, all with a sense of humour and a lightness of spirit. He made good choices and stood by them. COUPAL - Helen Rose (nee Baker) of North Battleford, Sask. passed away at the Saskatoon City Hospital on November 15, 2004 at the age of 64 years. DECK - Gordon, October 9, 1932 - October 30, 2005. Suddenly, on October 30, 2005, Gordon passed away at the age of 73. He was predeceased by his parents Martin and Katherine Deck. Gordon will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 48 years Eileen; sons Drew (Janice), Mike (Sandee); daughters Leslie (Brian, Andrea and Jesse), Tracey (Martin) Rakar; grandchildren Martin, Kevin, Dustin, Devon, Danielle, Ryan, Adam, Matthew, and Hannah. Gordon was born in Sedley, Saskatchewan, and moved to Regina where he worked for CKCK Television. He moved to Winnipeg in 1966 and worked for CBC until his retirement in 1992. In his younger years Gordon was an accomplished hockey and baseball player. He loved being in his "second home", his garage; tackling any one of many projects he had on the go. He had a great sense of humour, enjoyed a great game of cards, and will be remembered for his tenacity, kindness and compassion. Mom went home to be with her Lord and Saviour early Sunday morning, January 14th, 2007 at the age of 84 years. She passed away peacefully surrounded by love with her husband and children by her side. Theresa was born on February 15th, 1922 to Alex and Rosina Mildenberger and raised on a farm near Sedley, SK. She was the fifth of nine children. After completing high school she went to teachers college in Regina and taught at Blumenfeld, Friedenthal and Andriasheim schools. In 1945 she married Steve Deck. Together they farmed near Sedley for thirty-seven years and raised their ten children. They sold the farm in 1982 and started the next phase of their life in a newly built home in Sedley. Over the next twenty years she enjoyed retirement by traveling, gardening, painting, fishing, doing crafts, playing cards, crocheting afghans for her grandchildren and visiting with family and friends. Mom kept the camper ready to go at a moments notice. Everyone was guaranteed a fine meal and a lively card game when visiting. In the fall of 2004, Mom and Dad made their move to Regina where they continued their retirement by making more new friends, playing cards and enjoying their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Theresa was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Johnny (infant), Wendelin, Lawrence and granddaughter Rhonda Button (nee Klein). Maggie was born in Sedley, Saskatchewan on August 8, 1905. She married Joseph Denis on February 18, 1924. They moved to Taber in 1941 where she resided until the time of her passing. On August 8, 2005, Maggie, along with her family and friends, celebrated her 100th birthday. This truly was a joyful occasion, as her life revolved around her family and friends. For the past ten years Maggie has been a resident of Clearview Lodge. He served on the Sedley Village Council, Credit Union Board, Rink Board, Optimist Club, and he was the mayor of Sedley for a number of years. He cherished his family above all and appreciated the companionship and support of so many good friends. They enjoyed 70 years together in the Gray community and were life-long partners in farming and dancing. Kitty loved all sports and participated in softball and curling, assisted with CGIT and the Rink and Hall Board Committees. In 2003, Kitty and Ernie officially retired and moved to Marian Chateau in Regina. In April 2005, she moved to Erimus Personal Care Home where she resided until her death. Matt is survived by nephew Dennis (Zee) Shuler of Banff, AB; nieces: Diane Ford of Edmonton, AB; and Lucreta (Dave) Barry of Brooks, AB; and his closest friend and long-time neighbour Jacques Bechard of Sedley. Matt was born on April 23, 1920 in Sedley, SK, the youngest in a family of eight children born to Lucrece and Paul Dupuis. He received his education in Sedley, and with his brother Gerard, owned and operated Dupuis Brothers Farm near Sedley for many years. After Gerard's retirement in 1979, Matt continued to farm on his own until retiring in Sedley in 2000. He enjoyed traveling, golf, playing bridge, and telling jokes. Matt loved the warm sunshine of the Rio Grande Valley where he spent the last 23 winters at his second home in Mission, TX. It is with great sadness that the family of Milli announce her passing on October 31, 2001 at Weatherby Pavilion, Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock, B.C. Milli was born August 16, 1917 in Sedley, Saskatchewan from a family of 17. She completed her high schooling at Loretta Convent. Milli married Andrew Ell on October 17, 1939. They farmed in the Sedley area and later moved to Regina, eventually retiring in White Rock. A devoted mother, Milli raised seven children. She enjoyed camping trips and visits with her family. She was a member of the C.W.L. at Holy Rosary Cathedral. Predeceased by a daughter, she is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Andrew, sons Bill (Rose), Tom (Lana) of Regina, Ron (Dolores) of Saskatoon, Richard (Deb) of Calgary, daughters Betsy (Milt) of Esterhazy and Mary Anne (Chris) of White Rock, along with 16 grandchildren and six great grandchildren, six sisters and two brothers. Louie Abello officiating. ELL - George John (Rev. Ulric), OFM passed away at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, BC on September 18, 2003 at the age of 89. Born in Sedley, Saskatchewan, he entered the Franciscan Order in Quebec where he made his profession of vows on August 16, 1935. After completing seminary studies he returned to Regina, SK for his ordination to the priesthood, June 21, 1942. Fr. Ulric started his ministry as a teacher at St. Anthony's College in Edmonton before moving on to the ministryof his choice. He was much appreciated as pastor and formed many lasting friendships in Trail, BC; Lac Du Bonnet, MB; Edmonton, AB; Golden, BC; Vancouver, BC, and Winnipeg, MB. Fr. Ulric also gave some years to preaching missions in both BC and California. He retired to Victoria in 1999. Predeceased by four brothers, Canasius, Andrew, Jack, John and three sisters, Clementine, Sr. Casimir, Sr. Eugenia, he leaves to mourn sister, Em Seiferling; brothers Peter Ell, Robert (Beth) Ell as well as his Franciscan brothers. His spirit will live in the hearts and minds of his many nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his love of family and his ability to accept new challengeslike building new churches and learning to ski in his later years. Hulme 'Bill' born on the family farm at Sedley (NW 27-13-15 W2) on Nov 22, 1923 passed away at the Veterans' Ward of the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre in Regina on Tuesday, October 26, 2010. Predeceased by his parents, Tom and Audrey, and his sister, Marcia. Hulme is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy (Haug) to whom he was married for 58 years, his sons Bill (Vionne) of Saskatoon and David (Nadine) of Ottawa, and his daughter Susan (Michael Hanrahan) of Toronto as well as five grandsons Joe, Bryce, Marek, Lyndon, and Michael. After being schooled in Sedley and Toronto, Hulme joined the Artillery Corps and fought in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. A graduate of the College of Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan, he farmed for 22 years before joining the Saskatchewan Land Bank Commission. He was a talented pianist and a guardian of good manners who thoroughly enjoyed an amusing story and the laughter associated with the engaging company of others. Hulme was a keen participant in community organizations throughout his life, most recently as an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Regina. He greatly anticipated the weekly camaraderie of the Gyro Club. Hulme will be remembered as someone who taught those around him to rise to the occasion whatever that occasion may be. She was predeceased by her son Ron in 1996; husband Norman in 1980; and brother Roy in 1985. HORNSETH - Marcia Audrey (nee Henley) passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre, Saskatoon, SK. Born on the Henley farm at Sedley, SK on December 5, 1922; Marcia attended Ferguslea School near Francis, Brown School in Toronto, St. Canisius in Sedley, and Normal School in Moose Jaw. A teacher all her life she taught first at a country school near Ogema, then moved to Ceylon where she taught for eighteen years. While there Marcia married Ray Wadsworth who ran a service station and bulk fuel business. After his death she spent two years teaching children of air force personnel at Zweibrucken, Germany. Returning home she taught at Regina, Yellowgrass and Bladworth. Retiring to Saskatoon Marcia married Roy Hornseth, where Roy worked as a heavy-duty mechanic. They were active members in Alcoholics Anonymous and Bethel United Church. She later lived at McClure Place and Amy McClure House. He married Katherine Kress in July 1948 and raised their family of 4 boys and one daughter on this farm. Tony was very active in sports especially curling and baseball and enjoyed coaching his children. Tony `s interest in the Sedley community was demonstrated by his involvement on many boards such as the Rink, Church ,School ,and 4-H beef club. Tony was also active in the Knights of Columbus in Sedley and Regina and volunteered in many fund raiser activities, Tony `s love of agriculture led him into other fields such as a delegate of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool in his farming area, working for Saskatchewan Crop Insurance as a hail adjuster, then later as a supervisor and lastly as the hail director for the corporation. Tony had a love for people and loved to communicate his knowledge of curling, farming, politics and faith to all who would listen. In his latter years at Queen Victoria Estates he established himself as an accomplished singer. Tony courageously battled cancer for the past 8 months. His highlight during this time was the Century Farm Celebration where Tony despite failing health shared his many memories of farm life with friends and family in the Sedley area. She was predeceased by her husband, Valentine Kambeitz; daughters: Louise Schell, Sr. Rose Kambeitz, Margaret (in infancy); son, Valentine (in infancy); Kay Kambeitz dear daughter-in-law; grandson,Andrew Kambeitz. She is survived by five sons: Leo (Johanna), Markham, ON; Anthony, Regina; Anselm (Anne), Rossburn, MB; Clemens (Dawn), Hamilton, ON; Pius (Gladys), Creston, BC; three daughters: Sr. Hilda Kambeitz, Sedley, SK; Sr. Georgina Kambeitz, Regina, SK; Martha (Michael) Gombita, Markham, ON; as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren, also many nieces and nephews. Kenda was born in Odessa, Russia on August 20, 1897. She was honoured as a member of the "Three Century Club" having witnessed the 19th, 20th, and 21st Centuries. She came to Canada with her parents as a very young child. She loved flowers and was a great gardener, both on the farm and in Sedley where she and her husband retired when leaving the farm in 1949. Her hands were always busy sewing up quilts, puff bedspreads, braiding rugs, or baking bread for her family and friends. Her faith meant a great deal to her, and herrosary and prayer books were always close at hand. She was a life-long member of the Catholic Womens' League. She was a very caring and loving person and will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends who were so helpful over the last years. KAMBEITZ - Katherine "Kay" (nee Kress) passed away Saturday, September 29, 2001 at the age of 75. She was predeceased by her parents: Wendelin and Katherine Kress; son Andrew; brothers: Wendelin (in infancy), Adam, Jack, George and Wendelin; sisters: Barbara (Jack) Obrigewitsch, Eva (Joe) Obrigewitsch and Anna (Tony) Klein; brothers-in-law: Joseph Stoppler, Jack Obrigewitsch and Tony Klein; and by her sister-in-law Angelena Kress. Kay was born and raised on the Kress homestead farm north of Kendal. She attended country school Petersville, completed high school as a convent boarder at Vibank and attended Normal School at Moose Jaw, continuing with summer and correspondence classes for a degree in teaching. Kay taught for three years, married Tony, and committed herself to a totally diversified way of life on the Kambeitz Heritage Farm, north of Sedley, for 27 years, where they raised a family of four boys and one girl. Kay loved the community of Sedley, developing lasting friendships. Her belief in community involvement led to her serving on the local School Board, church choir, civic parks and recreation boards, oratory judging, 4-H beef club, art instruction, volunteer charity canvassing, Census Commissioner and substitute teaching. She loved to travel to a variety of locations from the Pacific to the Maritimes and from the Arctic to Mexico, Hawaii and the Caribbean Islands. Kay loved song and singing and frequented the symphony, concerts, Centre of the Arts, and theaters in Toronto. Other hobbies included sewing, oil painting, crafts, gardening and entertaining. Her sports were curling and her greatest passion was minor league baseball. Kay was a dedicated, determined and supportive spectator. Following Kay and Tony's retirement and move to Regina, Kay became employed at Simpsons as a Demonstrator for G.E. appliances, then as a retail jewelry sales person, and later acquired a certificate as a Travel Agent as well as a Broker's Certificate selling real estate for seven years. Kay enjoyed bridge, lawn bowling and volunteered as a charity canvasser and secretary of her Condominium Association. Kay and Tony were presently residing in Regina. Her relationship and love with extended family of thirteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, siblings and in-laws was her first priority. Kay was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in January 1999. She followed that time of life, living with cancer, in a loving, caring way with dignity, respect and empathy for all human beings. Now her soul is set free to be at peace with her heavenly father. He passed away on December 21, 2003 at his home in Toronto, Leo studied law at the University of Saskatchewan and completed Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law degrees. He also served in the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Air Force as an Officer and Flight Instructor. KILBACH - Elmer Archie, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at the age of 70 years. He was born and grew up in Bateman, SK. In 1952, he and his family moved to a farm just south of Sedley, SK, where he lived until his passing. Elmer enjoyed having fun, laughing, farming, gardening, curling, baseball, singing, playing cards and helping to raise his grandchildren. He was a jack-of-all-trades and could fix anything. Anne became a resident of Souris Valley Extended Care Centre in January 2000 where she continued to be active, participating in many social and recreational activities. Ike was born in Sedley, Saskatchewan on October 24, 1913. Becoming head of the household at a very young age, his years of hard work started on the family farm near Schuler, Alberta. In Medicine Hat, Ike worked for many years at the Five Roses Flour Mill, then gained employment with the City of Medicine Hat, Gas Department, which he retired from in 1978. He loved to dance and enjoyed the occasional beer which enhanced his great sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. Ike was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Veronica; eldest grandson, Craig Lanz and his first wife of 38 years, Maggie. Following her death, he remarried Edna Reiger in October of 1981. After returning to Canada, he went to the University of British Columbia and got his Bachelor of Commerce Degree. He worked in Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto. Rene retired and lived in Bethany, Delaware and finally retired to Sedley where he helped his brother Guy on the farm for many years. He loved history and his cat. LEIER - Katherine "Kay" (nee Vollman) 1923-2012, late of Swift Current and formerly of Sedley, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Monday October 22, 2012 at the age of 89. Brian attended school in Francis, Sedley and Weyburn. As a boy he participated in soccer, baseball and curling. Over the years he also enjoyed playing and coaching hockey. His greatest loves were fishing and hunting which he shared with his father and passed on to his sons. Brian was employed in various capacities for local farmers, Dairy Producers, City of Regina, Sask. Tel, long haul trucking and most recently at the Provincial Correctional Centre. Brian will be lovingly remembered by his parents Arnold and Wilma Looker along with his sons Tyler Schiltroth, Chad Looker (Amanda Deveyrac) and Jesse Cal, sisters Valerie Gutenberg (Keith) and Lorraine Wilkinson (Warren) as well as brothers Darren Looker and Wayne Looker (Tracy), Brian's best friend and partner Susan Coleman along with her family Jamie, Tara and Stephen; nieces Liz Rebrinsky, Nikki Rebrinsky, Haile Looker, Naomi McGowan, nephews Dawson Looker and Brandon McGowan along with other special "buddies". McCRACKEN - Ellen Jean McCracken was born in Bengough, SK to Percy and Nellie Aldred on October 24, 1932, a twin sister to brother Budd. She passed away on Friday, March 14, 2014 at the Care Center in Swift Current, SK at the age of 81 years. Jean took her schooling in Ceylon. She grew up on a farm and had an incredible fondness for horses. She would rather be out in the barn helping her father with the teams than doing housework with her mother. Jean rode horse and raced in local events. She met Robert McCracken "Bob" in Regina where she was working at SaskPower, and they were married on October 15, 1955. Bob and Jean spent their first years working and stock car racing, where Jean would compete in the Powder Puff events. In later years, because Bob was a member of the Antique Auto Club, antique auto functions and swap meets took them through Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the northern United States. They raised a family of three children while Bob worked at Motorways, and they took in many foster children as well. They moved from Regina out to Sedley in the 1980's, and acquired many new friends. Jean had a vegetable garden, loved to grow giant sunflowers, and was a good baker of cakes, cookies, and jellyrolls for her sweet tooth. She loved to coffee with neighbours and everyone was welcome at her table. She enjoyed many card games, played Scrabble, watched figure skating and curling, and did many puzzles. She was a practical joker, and was always telling jokes and pulling pranks on others. Jean's health put her into long term care the last ten years of her life, where she still enjoyed a good joke. Jean was predeceased by her husband Bob; brother Harry; and brother-in-law Francis Marcil. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Ed (Val), Gail and Don; grandchildren Kevin, Anita (Lee), Steven and Ceanne; great-grandchildren Cobey, Kaycee and Virney; sister Mary Anne Marcil; twin brother Budd (Glenda); sister-in-law Doreen Aldred; as well as nieces and nephews. She was involved in many community and church affairs and worked for the C.W.L. also as a volunteer charity canvasser. She had many hobbies, her hands were never idle. She loved gardening, fishing, traveling and taking tours. Home hobbies included crocheting, knitting, paper tole projects and playing cards. She was a fighter as in 1978 had breast cancer; in 1998 had a heart bypass, and in 2000 was diagnosed with bone cancer. She continued to keep up the good spirit and faith until the end. Now her fighting is over and she is at peace. The family wishes to thank Drs. Peter Van Rooyen and Dr. Cline as well as the Palliative staff at the Pasqua Hospital and at the Wascana Grace Hospice for the loving care they gave Sally. POISSANT - Bernard Romeo, beloved husband of Shelyn Poissant, was called home to rejoice with the Lord on Monday, March 26, 2007 at the age of 60 years. The story of Bernards life begins in Regina, Saskatchewan when he was born on January 1, 1947, one of the first born Canadian citizens a son to Romeo and Suzanne Poissant. He was raised on the family farm near Sedley, Saskatchewan and attended schools in both, Gravelbourg and Sedley. November 12, 1977 marked the beginning of a wonderful marriage of 29 years to Shelyn Lynch, His first and last wife. Growing up on a farm provided Bernard with the knowledge of the land which enabled him to continue his rewarding lifes work as a farmer. Although farming and supporting a family kept him busy, he always had time to be involved in his community in various capacities. He served for the Village of Sedley, was a counselor for the RM of Lajord 128 as well as other boards and community groups. Bernard was a member of the Roman Catholic Church and was involved in the Knights of Columbus and with political councils of the church. He lived life to the fullest! Bernard enjoyed hockey, extensive travelling and just going for leisurely walks. He was a humorous character that made people laugh and enjoyed the company of others. He especially liked the company of his family... because he loved them all. He held a special place in his heart for his granddaughters. With the qualities of being caring, loving and generous he had many achievements but his greatest was his wife and two children. His legacy has been left to carry on and his memory will be cherished in the hearts of his wife, Shelyn and their children, Remi (Jane) Poissant and Danielle (Jeremy) Lonson; his precious granddaughters, Jenna Poissant and Addison Lonson; brothers and sister, JeanGuy (Alice) Poissant, Denis (Jeanne) Poissant, Jacques (Sharon) Poissant, Roxanne (Dennis) Lynch and Marc (Lori) Poissant. Fred is survived by his loving wife Helen; daughter, Donna (Jeff) King; and grandchildren, Michael and Ann King. Fred was born in Regina on March 28, 1927. He moved to Indian Head and farmed with his Mom and Dad, and then moved back to Regina and farmed from the city. Fred and Helen were married in 1951 and moved to Parry, SK in 1952 to farm. In 1964 they moved to Sedley and farmed there. They moved again in 1972 back to Regina where Fred worked at the Tartan Curling Club for six winters and then retired. Fred loved his family and had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards and his many coffee buddies. A funeral service for Fred will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 1:00 pm at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. Interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park. SILZER - Betty. Mom passed away peacefully in the evening on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at the age of 90 years. She was born on April 5, 1922 in a mud house on a small farm north of Sedley, SK. Mom was the second youngest of 14 children. She obtained her nursing degree, something she was very proud of. Betty was predeceased by her loving husband Otto; parents; 7 brothers; and 4 sisters. She leaves to cherish her memory her son Raymond (Debbie); grandson Terry; sisters Dorothy Keller and Julie Coupal; sisters-in-law Anna Kainz, Teresa Yearly and Eva Geber; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Peacefully, on November 29, 2004 knowing she had fought a good fight, Hazel passed away at the Deer Lodge Centre. Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband Carl Simonson in November, 1971. Born in Sedley, SK, she moved to Qu'Appelle as a child and later to Winnipeg where she attended Daniel McIntyre Collegiate and Success Business College. Mom worked for The Grain Exchange in her early years and later in life enjoyed her days at the Courts of St. James office and The Big Sisters Association. In keeping with Mom's wishes cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will follow later. After a six month battle with cancer, Ray passed away peacefully at home, his family by his side, on April 17, 2007. He was born in Sedley Saskatchewan on November 18, 1929, arriving in Chilliwack as an infant. This permanent move gave him justification to self proclaim local privileges, because "I've lived here all my life" Ray was raised in a family with 6 siblings, Helen Sidney, Bill (predeceased in 2004) (Esther) Sperling, Bertha (Herb) Kregar, Bob (Doris) Sperling, Norm (Pat) Sperling and Maurice (Emily) Sperling. He was also predeceased by his parents, John and Marion Sperling and sister, Agatha Christine, 1930 at three years of age. Dad, choosing carpentry as his trade, left his mark of excellence on numerous buildings and schools throughout the valley. In 1955 Ray and his bride Phyll began a life together that leaves behind a legacy of 3 children, Teri (David) Gadd, Tim (Kitsie) Sperling, Joan (Gord) Beldam, 10 grandchildren, Wendy, Sarah, Jordan, Allison, Kevin, Andrew, Sam, Madison, Nolan and Suzi, as well as 2 great-grandchildren, Jaclyn and Jacob. Their love of family and friends took them on many of life's excellent adventures which will leave us all with wonderful memories. Ray was a lifetime member of Gyro International Fraternity of Friendship, serving as District Four Governor, 1980 - 1981. He was also a member of the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus as well as the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, serving 2 consecutive years as Faithful Navigator of the 4th Degree, Henry Maurice Assembly. When you think of Ray you think of kindness, loyalty, gentleness, unconditional faith and love. Dad would always 'jest' to those close to him that God made him "just perfect"! Well Papa, you were right, nobody defines "Perfection" in our eyes greater than you. Dad would say his life has been enriched and blessed by so many, but truth be known, we are the ones enriched and blessed by knowing him. A heartfelt Thank you to Dr. Scott Markey, whose devotion to his own profession, has brought us much comfort and strength these past months. At Arend's request there will be no service. WAGNER - Amiel Peter passed away peacefully at the Kelowna General Hospital, Kelowna, BC in the early morning of Thursday, August 9, 2012. Predeceased by his wife Veronica (1996) and daughter-in-law Bonnie Wagner (2012). He is survived by his four children, son Wayne, children Peter, Jon and Joe; son Warren (Dolores), children Tammy (Jason), Terri (Adam); daughter Lee Ann, children Amanda (Peter), Andrew, Alexander; daughter Joan (Bill) son John. Grandpa also, left behind six great-grandchildren Morgan, Nolan, Own, Lucas, Carter and Tesla, son-in-law Jack Allan. Amiel was born and grew up in the town of Sedley, SK, he served in the Second World War and after married Veronica. During his working career he was employed by Canadian Propane later known as ICG, which moved him to many towns in the province. Amiel loved spending his summers at the cottage at Wee Too Beach, playing cards, and buying cars. In his retirement years he spent much of his time living in Kelowna, where he enjoyed spending time with many new and old friends. Lorence loved his job of 39 years working for the RM of Lajord while enjoying his hobby farming. Lorence and Vivian built their retirement home in B-Say-Tah village in 1988 and Lorence continued his career in Fort Qu'Appelle working part time for the RM and the RCMP police detachment as a guard. While living in Sedley he was a dedicated town councillor for 18 years, he then dedicated another 9 years as a councillor and mayor for the village of B-Say-Tah. Lorence loved his family dearly and spending time with them and all his precious grand-children. He enjoyed many memorable camping trips and holidays with family and friends. He especially enjoyed his many winters spent in Arizona. The last few years he enjoyed playing cards with his close friends and family. Interment to follow at Sedley Cemetery. WEINBERGER - Vivian (nee Obrigewitsch) 1935 - 2014. On October 1, 2014 our Mom, Vivian, passed away peacefully in Regina with her family by her side. She was predeceased by her husband Lorence in 2001, parents Chris and Margaret, brother Joe and brother-in-law Norm Tabor. He passed away in Regina Pasqua Hospital at the age of 93 years. He was born on March 18, 1915 and grew up on a farm near Vibank, SK., the 7th oldest of 14 children of Felix and AnnaMarie Weisgarber. He moved to the Sedley district where he met his future wife Margaret Schaffer. They married in 1942, bought a farm and raised their family. He lived there until 1998 when he moved to Regina. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his children; Eleanor (Ken) Robb of Nipawin and their children; Leanne (Chad) Thomas and Janet (Derek) Smith, Brenda (Grant) McLaughlin and their children Mike (Joy) and Tamara (Mark) Leverton, Wayne (Carol) and their children Regan (Loretta), Kim (Natalie), Tara (Paul), Jenelle (Ted) Warcimaga and Riley (Allison), Ken (Maureen) and their children Danielle, Kyle, and Mark, Barrie (Margaret) and their children Derek (Alaine), Russell (Janine) and Krissy as well as 12 great grandchildren, sisters; Rose Bechard and Barbara Moisuk, brother; Mike (Barbara) and numerous sister and brother in laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Catherine died peacefully on July 12, 2005 after a long battle with Altzheimer's disease. She was born in Sedley, Saskatchewan. She attended elementary school in Kendal and completed high school at the Ursuline Convent in Vibank. In 1941, Catherine left the family farm and joined the Army Corps attaining the rank of Sgt. with the Pay Corps. After leaving the Army in 1946 she worked as a continuity writer at CKCK Radio in Regina. She met Eric in 1947 and they married in Regina in 1948. In 1952 they moved to Yorkton and in 1957 to Moose Jaw. Catherine was a devoted wife and mother of seven children, including two sets of twins. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Parish, Moose Jaw and was a lifelong member of the Catholic Women's League. Catherine was an avid duplicate bridge player and had received the rank of Senior/National Master from the American Contract Bridge League. She was a sports enthusiast and an ardent fan of the Roughriders. Catherine had a keen interest in politics and loved to debate the current issues of the day. She also had a love for music, a passion for writing, and her talent for gardening was unrivalled. Predeceased by her parents, Mary and Jospeh Mildenberger; brothers: John, Joachim and Sebastian and sister, Louise. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Eric; sisters: Rose and Armella; children: Eric Jr., Kathleen (Ron), Joanne (Ted), Rosemary (Garry), Margaret (John), John (Suzanne) and James; seventeen grandchildren and one greatgrandchild. Anastasia Wormsbecker, originally from Sedley and Regina, Sask., passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 24, 2012 in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 96 years. Anastasia is survived by her children Lorrie, Frank (Shirley), Eric (Kathleen), David (Rosa), and Edith (Tony); grandchildren Anne, Sean, Erin, Kristyn, and Nicole; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend on Sunday, May 13, 2012 at the age of 81 years. Jacob was predeceased by his wife Cecilia in 2004; his father Florian in 1990; his mother Katherine in 1997; and his daughter Laura in infancy in 1954. Jacob was born on September 4, 1930 at Sedley, SK. It was here that he met and married Cecilia and had 51 wonderful years of marriage. Dad and Mom farmed north of Sedley where they raised their family until 1975 and then moved into Sedley and continued farming until Dad's retirement in 1996. Jacob's passion was farming, cattle and his family. He was a great husband and father and the best teacher. There was no math problem that he couldn�t solve for the grandchildren. Dad was known to be a comedian at times but was still an amazing leader and mentor to his children and grandchildren. Today heaven gains another HERO.
