AARRESTAD - Violet M. Marion (nee Mann) 1925 - 2010. It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Violet M. Marion Aarrestad announce her passing on October 30, 2010 at the age of 85 years. Violet & her husband Ragnar Aarrestad lived on a farm in the Park Valley district where they raised cattle & enjoyed farm life. Violet loved gardening, both vegetables & flower gardens, at which she spent much time keeping all looking well groomed and looking forward to a bountiful harvest each fall. She also enjoyed birds, with many being attracted to her yard with all the flowers, feeders and watering stations. She loved the Lord and played a very active part in the Park Valley church. For 38 years they hosted a "Young Peoples" on their farm on Labour Day weekend. Teenagers from Sask., Alta., B.C., and Man. came to enjoy the farm life and be taught about things of the Lord and to live a Christian life. She will be truly missed by her husband, family and all who were a part of her life on earth. Violet was predeceased by her parents Edward & Lillian Mann; her first husband Eugene Mallow; her sister Doreen McIntosh; her brothers Ted & Wesley Mann; her brothers in law John Jones, Bill McIntosh and Ken Murfitt. The Memorial Service for Violet was held on Saturday, November 6, 2010 in the Shellbrook Elk's Hall with Mr. Norman Aarrestad & Mr. Merv Sundbo as officiants. Eulogists were Leon & Arlis Mallow, Leif Aarrestad was the organist and special music was performed by Irvin & Darryl Amundson, Ken Olson and Cyndi Aarrestad. A private family interment was held before the service in the Park Valley Cemetery. ANHORN - Lorne Edward passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Friday, April 18, 2003 at the age of 55 years. Lorne was born in Saskatoon and was raised in Penzance where he was very active in the community and in many sports. Music was a very important part of his life. He worked in the music program of the Long Lake School District and was the first director of the Eastend School Division Band. In February of 1974, Lorne was involved in a car accident that severely impacted his life and the lives of his family. After fighting through the challenges and change, Lorne embraced life in many ways. He and his family became very involved in the Regina Disabled Ski Club, where he went on to win two National Gold Metals. He was an avid waterskier and curler. Lorne never let his disability stand in the way of anything he wanted to accomplish. He was always proud of his success in acquiring gifts in kind for the Penzance Dinner Theatre. After moving to Regina, Lorne pursued his interest in music by spending his evenings dancing. Friends and family would watch in awe as he would dance the night away. He also vacationed in Mexico and Hawaii. Lorne was predeceased by his parents Hugo and Jean. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Michael and Dawn; sister Donna (Al) Black; special aunt Beatrice McBeath; cherished friend Eva Woodley; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service will be held at the Regina Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to take place at the Penzance Cemetery. The family would like to extend the most sincere thank-you to the nursing staff of the Pasqua Hospital, Dr. Elliott, Dr. Klein and all their supporting staff. Thanks is also extended to the Regina Home Care and Cupar Nursing Home. ANHORN - Margaret Jean (nee Doner) 1910 - 2002. It is with great sadness the family announces the death of Margaret Jean Anhorn on Thursday, December 12, 2002 at the age of 92. Jean was born in Kindersley, Saskatchewan to Edward and Margaret Doner - the oldest of five children. During her lifetime she lived in Kindersley, Imperial, Penzance and Regina. Her life was dedicated to the world of music. She received her ACTM in pianoforte after many years of taking the train into Regina in the morning and back home that night. While she was playing in an orchestra she met Hugo Anhorn who played saxophone. In 1934 she married Hugo and moved to Penzance. She and Hugo played in the Steen Orchestra for many years and helped people forget the perils of the war years. During her 56 years in Penzance she was organist and pianist for everything that went on for miles around. Jean taught theory and piano to children in Penzance and surrounding areas and her greatest pleasure was her piano recitals for proud parents, families and friends. In 1990 she moved to Palliser Place in Regina. She celebrated her 90th birthday with her family and many friends old and new. She was predeceased by her husband Hugo in 1981, brothers Mac and Jack and sister Irma. Jean is survived by her sister Bea McBeath, Regina, her children: Lorne, Regina, and Donna Black (Al), Calgary; five grandchildren; Rhonda Fulton (Richard), David Black (Lori), Leanne Stoesz (Chris), Michael Anhorn and Dawn Anhorn; three great-grandchildren; Cale and Ethan Black and Spencer Fulton. A Memorial Service will be held at the Regina Funeral Home on Monday, December 16, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Lori Erhardt from Sunset United Church officiating. BAKER- Margaret Ione (nee Currie) January 20, 1932 - May 28, 1996. Born in Davidson , Sask. Ione was raised in Penzance where she excelled in sports, academics and music. She graduated high school in 1949. before continuing on to the normal school in Saskatoon. Ione married Elmer Baker and gave birth to five children; Bill (Charlotte), Robert (deceased 1957), Wanda Zwaan (Bruce), Glenda (Kelly), Edward (Loreen). Ione renewed her teaching career full-time in 1969, the inaugural year of Coollege Park School. College Park became her working home for the following 21 years where she was part of a close teaching team that were dedicated to their students. Her talents and boundless energy included designing and sewing for the musicals, cooking for the large camps plus all the usual challenges of a division one teacher. She loved doing it all and those years held very special memories for her. She always spoke fondly and with pride about her former students and colleagues. For the last four years of her teaching career, Ione was asked to become part of a teaching staff at the new John G. Egnatoff Elementary School. She rose to this challenge with her usual undaunted determination. Her retirement was spent with her husband, wintering in Palm Springs, where she indulged in her passions of music, dancing, sports and cooking. The cancer that took her life did so only after a long hard fought battle. Survived by her husband and children, Ione is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Samantha, Jennifer, Billy, Amanda (Bill); Tanya, Jackie, Michael (Wanda); KJ (Glenda); Zak, Ben (Eddie), her only sister Mona Hatton, three brothers; Roy Currie (Kaye), Erle Currie (Shirley), John Currie (Helen). Sisters-in-law: Marg Laverty (Ralph), Leona Cornish (Myron, d.1985) and Violet Jeffreys; brothers-in-law: Lloyd Baker (Helen) and Russell Baker (Evelyn). Ione was predeceased by her parents, William and Mabel Currie, grand-daughter Abbey (Wanda); brothers Don Currie, Glenn Currie and Bruce Currie. Sisters-in-law Frances Delfarie, Dorothy Baker and Clara Frerichs. BELL - Hannah Amelia (nee Graham) Bell passed away on Monday December 3, 2007 at the age of 84 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Helen Graham; and her husband, Walter Bell. Hannah is survived by her children: Graham (Wendy) Bell, Weyburn, Stewart (Kathe) Bell, Chicago, Il.USA, Rodney (Linda) Bell, Winnipeg, MB, Rhonda Bell, Regina; chosen daughter: Geraldine Bell; seven grandchildren: Charlotte Bell, Selena (Curtis) Tyndall, Stacy Bell, Kendra & Michael Bell, Corbin and Harrison Bell; two great-grandchildren, Nora and Levi Tyndall; one brother: Sam (Marion) Graham, Dartmouth, N.S., chosen sister: Alma Schiller, Weyburn; as well as many nieces and nephews. Hannah Amelia Bell was born on June 3, 1923 to Robert and Helen Graham at Penzance Saskatchewan. After receiving training as a teacher, she taught for a short time and then took a bookkeeping course. On November 7, 1953 she married Walter Bell. After working in Regina as a bookkeeper, she moved to the farm near Shamrock SK with Walter. In 1973 they moved to Weyburn where she worked at Western Christian College and then on to Fred Millekers office until her retirement. Retirement for Hannah was a full-time job, with the many organizations she shared her talents with. Hannah was a member of the Church of Christ as well as the 4H clubs, Soo Line Historical Society, Weyburn Genealogical Society, Weyburn Arts Council, The United Way, Western Christian College-Women's Service Club, S.E.S.A.C.R.S.(South East Saskatchewan Association for Culture, Recreation and Sport) and the Crocus Quilters. Hannah loved quilting, sewing, crocheting, knitting, needlepoint, crosswords, gardening and was always up for a game of scrabble. A visitation for Hannah will be held on Wednesday evening, December 12, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. from RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn. The Funeral Service for Hannah will be held at the Church of Christ, Weyburn, SK., on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Scott Wade officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, SK. BERG - Selma Sigrid (nee Eikre), born on the family farm near Penzance, SK on July 16, 2006. Selma passed away peacefully at William Booth Special Care Home, Regina on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at the age of 94 years. Selma is survived by her son, Gerald, of Regina; two granddaughters, Nancy of Medicine Hat, AB and Selinda of London, ON. Selma was predeceased by her parents, Ivar and Margaret Eikre; brother, Rudolph; two sisters, Gudrun and Clara. Selma will be remembered by many for her work years at the Craik Co-op and later with the Sherwood Co-op in Regina. She entered William Booth Special Care Home in November 1996, where she continued to live a full and comfortable life until her death. A very special thank you to the staff at William Booth Home for the years of compassionate and professional care. A quiet family interment service was held at Craik Cemetery on Friday, October 6, 2006. Selma will be remembered by her family as a loving and caring mother and grandmother. BERG - Robert (Neil) March 13, 1942 - July 20, 2014. It is with sadness we announce the passing of Neil at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK. He was predeceased by his parents Perley and Isabel Berg. Neil is survived by his wife Lillian; son Darryl (Jane); daughter Cheryl (Eric) Freel; grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; brother Barry (Carol); brothers-in-law Harvey (Ivy) Shaw and David (Elsie) Shaw; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was raised on a farm in the Penzance District. Neil was actively involved in music. He also enjoyed sports, hunting and photography. CURRIE - Colin Bruce, 123 Dominion St. Winnipeg, Man. passed away peacefully at his home Friday, June 21, 1985. Bruce Currie beloved husband of Rusty Currie. Bruce was predeceased by his mother and father, brother Don and Grandma Lane. Born on August 8, 1933 in Davidson, Sask. Bruce was educated in Penzance and Regina and moved to Winnipeg after his enlistment with the Royal Canadian Engineers, later working as a salesman for Belvedier cigarettes and automotive firms. For the past three years he was vice-president and co-founder of Rusty's Home and Auto Glass. Besides his wife Rusty, Bruce will be sadly missed by his sons Bart Currie and Robeert Sawtelle, Uncle Roy Lane, brothers Erle, Roy, Glenn, John, his sisters Mona Hatton and Ione Baker. Funeral services were held at Lethdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel with David Bloom officiating and Eulogy given by T. J. Rice. Interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. CURRIE - Donald Laird Currie passed away Sunday, June 3rd, 1973 at St. Boniface Hospital, aged 51 years, bloved husband of Eleanor Currie of 91 Norham Road, Riverhurst, Man. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, June 6th in Rivercrest Inited Church, Rev. Lee officiating. Interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Donald Laird Currie was born in Penzance. He served five years with the R.C.A.F. in the Second World War. At the time of his passing he was employed with Simpson-Sears as a service technician. Besides his wife, he leaves to mourn, son William, and three grandchildren in England, son Daniel; daughters Lila, Pat, Carol and Angela of Winnipeg; sisters Mrs. Mona Hatton, Winnipeg, Mrs. Ione Baker, Saskatoon, Sask.; brothers Erle, Penzance, Glenn, Chilliwack, B.C., Roy, Germany, John of Saskatoon and Bruce of St. James, Man. CURRIE - Erle Douglas of Moose Jaw, passed away on Saturday, October 16, 1999 at the age of eighty years. Erle was born April 9, 1919 and was the oldest son of William and Mabel Currie. The Currie family resided in the Davidson and Penzance areas. Erle served overseas from 1940 - 1945, the majority of his service spent with the 2nd Heavy Ack Ack 1st Battery. He saw active duty in Great Britain, France, Holland and Germany. Following his discharge he moved back to the Penzance area where he farmed for fourty-five years. Erle was predeceased by his parents, brothers: Laird, Glenn and Bruce; sisters: Ione and Anna Jean. Erle will be sadly missed by his loving wife of fifty years, Shirley (Beaudry); his children: Janet, Douglas (Barbara), Lionel (Mae), Finlay (Leila) and Marjorie; fifteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; sister and brothers: Mona of Winnipeg; Roy (Kaye) of Cranbrook, John (Helen) of Saskatoon and numerous other close relatives and friends. CURRIE - Helen (nee Roland) December 6, 1929 � February 11, 2014. It is with sadness that Helen's family announces her death on February 11, 2014 at the age of 84 years. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, John; her children, Terry (Margaret), Cathy (Richard), and Susan (Stan), 4 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. Helen was well loved and a great friend to many. Ian was born in Regina on February 17, 1977 and passed away unexpectedly on March 18, 2009 with his loving family and close friends at his side. He is survived by his parents Douglas and Barbara; sister Maureen (Corwin); brother Alan (Amanda); nephew Tieran; grandparents George and Doris Hearn and Shirley Currie; and an extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandfather Erle Currie. Despite his challenges, Ian touched the lives of all that came in contact with him and he lived the life that he was given to the fullest. His strength, humour and sense of adventure will never be forgotten. Ian made his home at Chip and Dale Housing where he made many close friendships. Along with his family, he will be fondly remembered by the residents and staff of Chip and Dale Housing, Cosmopolitan Learning Centre and his many caregivers. The family would also like to thank Dr. S. Bester for his exceptional medical care of Ian over the years and the Pasqua ICU for their respectful and compassionate care of Ian, his family and friends. Born at Mount Forest, Ont. the family moved to Davidson in the fall of 1942. He was educated at Davidson and Penzance. Glennjoined the Canadian Army in 1941 serving in England and north-western Europe in the Second Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment. He returned to Canada in 1945 residing in Winnipeg. Glenn married Rose Chartrand and they had two daughters. Rose predeceased him in 1963. In 1964 he married Stella Kancer and they had one son, William. Glenn was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, a lifetime member of the United Church and the 50+ Club of Penzance. He was a tireless worker for all his organizations. Predeceased by his first wife Rose; son, William; grandson Danny Kancer; sister, Anna Currie; two brothers: Donald and Bruce. He is survived by his wife Stella of Moose Jaw; two daughters; Donna Smith and Diane Kusyk, both of Winnipeg; three sons: Leonard (Lynne) Kancer of Winnipeg, James (Judith) Kancer of Prince George, B.C., Jack (Angie) Kancer of Winnipeg; 10 grandchildren; three brothers: Erle (Shirley) of Moose Jaw, Roy (Kay) of Elko, B.C., John (Helen) of Saskatoon; two sisters: Mona Hatton of Winnipeg, Ione (Elmer) Baker of Saskatoon and several nieces and nephews. Our precious Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother Stella Currie passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 1, 1996 at Middlechurch Nursing Home in Winnipeg, Man. Stella was born in Edmonton and spent her childhood near Horod, Man. later moving to Winnipeg, where she met and married Danile Kancer. Mom remarried Lionel Glen Currie in 1964 and together moved to B.C. After several years, they relocated to Saskatchewan where they spent many happy years. Mom had "wandering feet", she needed to know what was at the "end of any road". Many a happy afternoon eas spent exploring the country roads. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who worked out of the home most of her life as a cook or housekeeper. Her sense of humor was uncanny, as well as her strong spirit. Mom was a very active lady, participating in church, U.C.W. Quilting Club, curling and Holdfast and Moose Jaw Legions. The final year of Mom's life was spent at Middlechurch Home. Mother is going to be missed by many people. Predeceased by two husbands, Daniel Kancer (1962), Lionel Glen Currie (1987), son William (Billy) 1982, her parents, brother Russell (Nellie), and grandchildren Donna and Danny. She will be affectionately remembered by her childre: Leonard (Lynn), Jim, Jack (Angie) Kancer, and step-daughters Donna Smith and Diana Kuzyk. She was cherished by her grandchildren: Jacqueline, Colleen, Barbara, Karen, James, Michael, Colleen, April, Kathy, Dawnya, Josh, Darcie, Jason and Kelly; and great grandchildren Tawnya, Sara, Dean, Anthony, Nicholas, and Bradley. She also leaves to grieve, her six brothers: John (Margaret), Edward (Evelyn), Ted (Helen), Chris (Tena), Steve (Margaret), Tony (Shirley); brother-in-law Erle (Shirley) and sister-in-law Mona; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. many thanks to the staff at Pioneer Village, Oxford Place and Middlechurch Homes, who lovingly cared for Mom these last years. Currie - William Murdoch, son of Mr. and Mrs Dugald Currie of Mount Forest, Ontario was born January 31, 1883. He came to Craik in 1909, later moved to the Penzance district and continued his home here with the exception of a few years spent at Davidson. On September 5th, 1917 he was united in marriage to Mabel Rae Lane of Penzance. To this union nine children were born, Erle, Penzance: Donald, Glenn, Bruce, Mrs. C. (Mona) Hatton, all of Winnipeg; John and Mrs. E. (Ione) Baker, both of Saskatoon; Anna Jean, who passed away April 20th, 1936. Mrs. Mabel Currie passed away October 5, 1936. Mr. Currie was predeceased by his parents, five sisters and five brothers. On November 6th, 1958 he married Inger Marie Erlandson and has lived in the Village of Penzance since. Mr. Currie entered the University Hospital in Saskatoon, December 16th, where he passed away December 30, 1962, after a serious operation. Funeral services were held January 2, 1963 from the Penzance United Church, with McKague's Funeral Home in charge. Rev. A. Stanislav, assisted by Rev. R. Yauk, conducted the services, with burial in the Davidson Cemetery. Pallbearers were Earl McLellan, Harry Wills, Earl Spencer, Roy Willoughby, John Wilson, Henry Measner. Honorary pallbearers: William Poot, Ray Tripps, James Drummond, Al McCord, H. A. Woolsey, Al McLellan. Mr. Currie served in two world wars and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was a trustee of the United Church and a past chairman of the Wheat Pool. He was a quiet unassuming man, a kind and loving father and husband and will be greatly missed by his wife, two daughters and six sons, twenty-four granchildren and one sister, Mrs. Peter Keith of Mount Forest, Ontario. The many beautiful floral tributes and in memorium gifts testify to the high esteem in which he was held. CURRIE - William Richard. The death of William "Billy" Richard Currie, 17, Holdfast, occurred at Saskatoon City Hospital on August 14, 1982. The funeral service was held from Penzance United Church, with Rev. Mark Waugh officiating. Organist was Jean Anhorn and the choir were in attendance. Ushers were Roy Willoughby and Horace Woolsey. Active casket bearers were Doug Currie, Lionel Currie, Finlay Currie, Eddie Baker, Bill Baker and Bill Johnson. Billy was born December 23, 1964 in Winnipeg, Man. to Glenn and Stella Currie. He was educated at Sunnyvale School, Kelowna, B.C. and John Dolan School, Saskatoon. Billy was very fond of all sports and he had been a member of the United church. He is survived by three brothers, Leonard, Jim and Jack Kancer; two sisters, Donna Smith and Diane Kusyk. Interment was in Penzance Cemetery. CURRIE - William Roy. It is with great sorrow that the family of William Roy Currie announces his passing on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, British Columbia at 84 years of age. Roy was born on August 10, 1926 in Davidson, Saskatchewan. He was raised in Penzence, Saskatchewan on the family farm. He joined the army in 1943 and remained in active service for 33 years, serving twice in Germany and eventually retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer. Roy and his beloved wife Kaye retired to Baynes Lake, British Columbia, where they enjoyed good friends and great community spirit. Roy and Kaye were Kootenay Ice season ticket holders and they both "loved their Ice." Left to mourn Roy's passing are his daughter Sandra Duke (Barry) and family and his son Ron and grandson Christian; step-daughters: Elaine, Madeline and Donna and their families. Roy was predeceased by his 2nd wife of 40 years Kaye earlier this year, and his 1st wife Muriel in 1968. A memorial service for Roy will be held at the McPherson Funeral Home in Cranbrook on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at 1:00 PM. His Interment will take place in Saskatchewan at a later date. DRUMMOND - Charlotte Elizabeth (nee Rollins). May 28, 1924 -July 3, 2007 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Charlotte. She was predeceased by her parents, Preston and Jane Rollins. She is survived by her husband, Jack; her children, Joanne, Gary and Maureen; five grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren. Charlotte was born in Penzance, SK, graduated from high school there and went on to Regina College, followed by a business course in Winnipeg. With her best friend, Priscilla Champagne, she moved to Montreal and worked the war years at the CPR Accounting Department, Windsor Station, Montreal, PQ. At war's end, Jack returned after five years overseas and he and Charlotte were married soon after on December 29, 1945 and lived happily together for over 61 years. Charlotte lived her life with a positive attitude, dignity, respect and a unique sense of humour. A special thanks to her nurses, home care workers, Dr. Morris and Dr. Brydon. DRUMMOND - John "Jack" Burns (December 4, 1921 - October 25, 2013). It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jack. Jack was born in Craik, SK and grew up in that district and in the community of Penzance, SK. He worked in Penzance until signing up with the Regina Rifles in June 1940 and fought for and defended his country from 1940 -1945. In 1995 he was chosen to represent the Regina Rifles at the 50th anniversary, celebrating the liberation of Holland. At war's end, he returned to Penzance where he married Charlotte Rollins and raised his family and farmed until a move to Regina in 1960. A quest for knowledge, writing (he was very proud of the book he wrote entitled "A Chronicle of War and Life") and a love of music followed Jack throughout his life and brought him a lot of comfort in the last years of his life. He was in the true sense of the words, a Renaissance man. Jack encouraged his children to get educated and to be independent thinkers. He was a man that loved to make things happen. The family gives a special thank you to Jack's physician Dr. Morris and to his personal care giver Wilma Valdez Ahmed, for all the wonderful attention given to their father. Hazen passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, June 17th, 2009 in Providence Place, Moose Jaw where he has resided for the past two and a half years. In 1965 Hazen moved his young family to the farm house he grew up in. He farmed in the Penzance-Craik district for the next 45 years. The family continues to farm the land he worked so hard for. Hazen belonged to 4-H Beef Clubs as a boy and led a 4-H group. He was a councillor for the R.M. of Sarnia for twenty years. Hazen worked for the Progressive Conservative Party both provincially and federally. He belonged to numerous farm groups and subscribed to all the farm publications. EHMAN - Matilda Theresa passed away peacefully on October 24, 2007. Matilda was born September 3, 1918 in the Penzance-Holdfast district and moved to Regina in 1969. Matilda and her twin, John were the youngest of 13 siblings. Predeceased by her loving husband, Gus and their infant daughter, Ann, as well as her brothers and sisters. George Lee Hearn was born in Rosetown, Sask. on February 4, 1919 and passed away in Moose Jaw, Sask. on February 11, 2011 with his loving family at his side. George, beloved husband of Doris for over 67 years, loving father of Barbara Currie (Douglas); grandfather of Alan Currie (Amanda) and Maureen Currie (Corwin Derkatch); and great-grandfather of Tieran and Alexia Currie. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other extended family. He was predeceased by his grandson, Ian Currie, in 2009. Throughout George's life, he worked as a jack of all trades until he settled on becoming a business owner by co-owning Rosetown Prairie Farm Equipment. After his retirement from the business, George moved with Doris to Penzance, Sask. to be closer to their daughter and family. George and Doris finally settled in Moose Jaw in 1982. George made many friends in all of the communities that he lived in because of his participation in many local associations, his willingness to lend a helping hand, play a good game of cards, or be ready to tell a story or a joke. HECK - Mary Helen (nee Petrowski), of Cochrane, AB. It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Mary Helen Heck formerly of Regina, late of Cochrane, AB. on October 8, 2009 at the age of 84. Mary was born in Poland on May 11, 1925 and immigrated to Canada as a young child. She is predeceased by her parents (Stanley and Bernice Petrowski), sister (Jean), her husband (John) and son (RCMP Cpl. Garry Heck). She is survived by her sons Cpl. (Retd) Don Heck (Carol), Ron Heck (Darle) and Cpl. Greg Heck (Donna) and daughters Janet, Judy and Mary Lou Heck, 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mary went to Teachers College in Regina and taught school in Penzance, where she met and married John Heck. They farmed for many years in Holdfast and district and Mary taught Kindergarten in Holdfast for several years before moving to Regina. Mary was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved teaching. At Mary's request there will be no funeral, but rather a private family interment service at Regina Memorial Gardens at a later date. HINCKS - Bill passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2002 at the age of 79 years. Bill was predeceased by his wife Dorothy; two daughters: Joyce and Jackie; and four grandsons: Ronnie, twins Dustin and Dallas, and Ryan. Bill is survived by his children: Terry, Donna (Neil) Cromarty and Tracey (Dale Hoyer); eight grandchildren: Tobi, Chantel, Trent, Andrew, Dustin, Tyler, Dallas and Shala; brother Robert (June) and their family; sister-in-law Maryann and her family; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was born on January 11, 1923, on a farm outside of Penzance to William Thomas and Pearl Hincks. He grew up there and attended school in Penzance, while helping with the farm work until World War Two broke out. He enlisted in the army at age sixteen and served in Canada, Great Britain and North-West Europe for five years until his discharge on February 1, 1946 in Regina. In the spring of 1946, he returned to Penzance to continue farming with his father. He also began working for the CPR. During this time, Bill met a young girl, Dorothy McNabb of Liberty, SK. Bill and Dorothy were married on November 14, 1950, and started farming on their own for the next six years. They moved to Regina early in 1957, where Bill began working for the City of Regina Light and Power until 1964. He transferred to British Columbia Hydro and lived in the city of Vernon, B.C. in the Okanagan Valley. Bill then returned to Regina and began working for South Construction until his retirement. After retirement, he spent some years as a Commissionaire. Memorial service will be held at the Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, on Monday, January 21, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Robert Kitchen officiating. HRABIA - Joy (nee Merchant) passed away peacefully on Friday evening September 19, 2014 at Parkside Extendicare, Regina SK, at the age of 88. She was born January 6, 1926 at Penzance, SK, the only child of Frank and May Merchant. Joy was predeceased by her parents, and in 1997 by her loving husband Tony Hrabia. She lived her early years with her parents on the farm near Penzance. After several discouraging farming years with the drought and dust storms of the 1930s, Joy's father Frank had an opportunity to teach school in Alberta. The family lived at Amisk, AB for twelve years, and then returned to the farm near Penzance. Joy first came to Regina in the 1950s, and in the early 1960s began a career with the Saskatchewan government health department which continued to her retirement in 1984. On October 10, 1994 Joy married her long-time friend Anthony "Tony" Hrabia. He passed away March 27, 1997. Joy enjoyed music. She played the piano for church with Regina Fellowship Assembly, and sang with the Regina Ladies Choir for almost 30 years. Joy loved visiting with people, and often met friends for coffee and lunch. She was a kind, gentle, and soft-spoken person, who always showed love and appreciation. Joy brightened people's days with her smile and cheerfulness. This continued with the residents, staff, and visitors at the care home right to her final days. Special thanks goes to Alvera Wolf, who cared for Joy for some time, and also to the staff at Parkside Extendicare for their care and kindness to her over the last two years. Frances grew up in Regina and worked for 38 years for Simpson Sears. She was a member of St. Andrew's United Church and belonged to the Albert-Scott Community Association. She enjoyed curling, Roughrider games and traveling. She especially enjoyed trips taken with her sister Opal, her most memorable holiday to Great Britain. KLEIN Mary Eve (nee Schroeder), passed away on November 23, 2006, at the age of 92 years, exactly 18 years after her husband's death. Mary was predeceased by her parents, John and Mary Schroeder, her husband Jack on November 23, 1988, a brother Aloysius Schroeder in 1986, a sister Daisy Massine in 2005, and a brother-in-law Michael Massine in 1999. Mary was born April 21, 1914 in Chamberlain where she grew up. She married Jack Klein in 1933 and they moved to Penzance. In 1942, they moved to Craik where they farmed and retired. Mary lived in Craik until 2003 when she moved to Extendicare in Moose Jaw. Special thanks to all those who cared for Mary during her stay in Extendicare. Also, special thanks to Elaine Spencer and Maureen Nielson who spent much time with Mary while she resided in the Manor in Craik. Burial will follow the Mass in Craik Cemetery. LANE - Dorothy (nee Tate) was born in Billingham, County Durham, England on July 23, 1919. She passed away in Athabasca, AB on June 14, 2016. In 1925, her parents immigrated to Canada under the Soldiers Settlement Plan and began farming in Dilke, SK. Dorothy attended Regina Normal School. In 1941, she married Eric Lane. They both served during WWII: Eric in the Royal Canadian Artillery and Dorothy in the Women's Division of the Royal Canadian Air Force. They moved to Young, SK in 1945, and retired to Athabasca, AB in 1987. Dorothy is survived by her children Marilyn (Adrianus) Mol, Eric Lane Jr., son-in-law Milton Prokopetz, Laurie (Ken) Dahms; grandchildren Tim Prokopetz, Todd Prokopetz, Daniel Mol, Catherine Mol, Miriam (Jacob) Payne, Michael Dahms, Andrew (Tera) Dahms; great-grandchildren Jason Prokopetz, Julia Prokopetz, Summer Prokopetz, Eric Payne, Taylor and Harrison Dahms; great-great-granddaughter Alexa Prokopetz; her sisters Millicent Myers, Gwenneth Mondry, Beatrice Koehler and Audrey Tate, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Grove moved to his acreage in Mountain, Ontario in 1987 after his retirement. He enjoyed his rural setting and appreciated the space he had to indulge his hobby of collecting. Old cars, tools, furniture - he just could not resist a "deal". Grove always had great repair, restoration or resale plans for his acquisitions. Grove greatly enjoyed his neighbours: lending a helping hand or being asked over for a meal was the substance of his recent years. It was one of the best accolades at the memorial gathering when people said of Grove: "He was a good neighbour". Grove was also somewhat infamous for his barn cats, taking in whatever strays or drop-offs that found him. When he called "kitty, kitty", all shapes and colours of cats would come pouring out of every building to see what he was up to. Grove was born March 26, 1931 in Penzance, Saskatchewan, second son to Hal and Naida (McLellan) Lane. His early school years were in Penzance, followed by high-school at Luther College in Regina and a Bachelor degree in Agriculture at U. of Saskatchewan, graduating in 1954. Grove married fellow "Aggie" Christine Clark in 1953 and they moved to the U.S. to pursue graduate work. Grove achieved a Masters In Agricultural Economics from U. of Nebraska in 1958 and further pursued a Ph. D. from U. of Minnesota but never completed his doctoral thesis. While in the States their first child Margaret was born. Shortly after returning to Canada, Carol was born in Ottawa while Grove was working for the federal Department of Agriculture. When Carol was 6 months old the family moved to Regina with all their belongings in an old 3 ton truck which required care and repairs all across Canada! Also living in Regina at the time was Grove's younger brother Ross, with his family and their parents Hal and Naida. The family often got together for picnics and other gatherings including extended Lane and McLellan family get-togethers at Long Lake, Sask. Grove worked for the Sask. Dept. of Agriculture for 2 years. In 1964, the family moved back to Ottawa where Grove worked for the then Dominion Bureau of Statistics as Agricultural Economist. The family was completed when son Alexander was born shortly after their return to Ottawa. Grove enjoyed curling and many social gatherings of the "Saskatchewan Mafia". Another move in 1969 took the family to Winnipeg where Grove became Regional Economist with the federal Department of Manpower and Immigration. Difficult times were to follow for Grove. He and Chris separated in 1974 and he struggled with issues at work. Alcohol became a problem for him at this time. Grove returned to Ottawa in the late 1970's as Senior Economist with Employment and Immigration. He enjoyed several secondments to non profit agencies including Native Council of Canada and Canadian Foundation for Refugees. Grove often become passionately committed to his projects during his assignments. Unfortunately, substance abuse dogged him through these years and he eventually took early retirement. After a couple of driving infractions and with the support of family and friends, Grove did give up drinking. He was rightly proud of his almost 15 years of sobriety. Grove was predeceased by his father Hal in 1973. He is survived by his mother, Naida of Regina, brothers Jack of Arizona and Ross (Stella) of Prince Albert, daughters Margaret (Jim Hargreaves) of Dawson Creek, Carol (John Westhaver) of Ottawa and son Alex (Catherine) of Musquodoboit Harbour, and 3 grandchildren: Simone Clark of Edmonton, Ben and Tom Hargreaves of Dawson Creek. LANE - Ida Emeline. Funeral service for Ida Emeline Lane, 96 of 1909 Dufferin Rd., was held recently at Knox-Metropolitan United Church with Rev. C.L. Barbour officiating. Burial was at Penzance. Born in 1877 in Prince Edward Island. Mrs. Lane settled in the Penzance district in 1916, where she and her husband, William, farmed until his death in 1935. In 1944, Mrs. Lane moved to Regina but continued farming land in the Rowatt district. Mrs. Lane is survived by two sons, Roy of 2125 MacPerson Ave, and Lloyd of 1909 Dufferin Road and eight grandchildren. LANE - Naida (nee McLellan) November 23, 1907 - November 4, 2010. Naida passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, November 4, 2010, 19 days shy of her 103 birthday. She was predeceased by her parents Alvin and Gertrude McLellan, husband Harold; son Grove; sisters Peggy, Evelyn, Olive, Gertrude, Bernice and brothers Earl and Bob. Naida is survived by her two sons, Jack and Ross (Stella). She had 15 grandchildren, 29 greatgrandchildren and 1 great-greatgranddaughter. Naida is also survived by her sister Jean Friese and sisters-in-law Janet McLellan and Dorothy Lane. She will be fondly remembered by all her nieces and nephews and many good friends. The family wants to give thanks to the Palliative Care Unit at the Pasqua Hospital. At Naida's request, there will be no funeral service. A graveside service will be held at a later date. LANE - Olive Patricia (nee McLellan). On Wednesday, September 1, 2004, Olive Patricia Lane, late of Qu'Appelle House, passed away at the age of 90 years. Predeceased by her husband Gordon Richard; her parents Alvin and Gertrude McLellan; one brother Earl; three sisters: Evelyn, Peggy and Gertrude. MARSHALL - Flossie Mae "Flo" (nee Grant) passed away on Monday, February 23, 2009. Flo was born in Penzance, SK in 1909. She married George Marshall in 1934 in Regina. Together they lived a wonderful Christian life. She was predeceased by George in 1988. Flo is survived by their four children, Joyce, Ronda, Grant and Bill; twelve grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Flo lived by the Bible and looked forward to her new life with her Lord in Heaven. They farmed in the Holdfast district where they raised their five sons. Ross and Betty especially enjoyed watching their sons involvement in sports at the local level. After retiring to Moose Jaw, Betty was widowed. She met and later married Howard Marzolf of the Central Butte district in December 1990. For 15 years they were socialites in the Moose Jaw community. They were die-hard Blue Jay fans who celebrated two pennants and like Maple Leaf fans, followed them through their difficult seasons. Betty was a dedicated member of the Legion Auxiliary. She also enjoyed playing bridge and scrabble, bowling, golfing, and special moments with her families. One of Betty's greatest joys was the time she spent following the education and accomplishments of her fourteen grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After a courageous fight with vascilitis in the Regina General Hospital, Betty passed away. The Funeral Service will be held at W.J. Jones & Son Chapel on Wednesday August 24, 2005 at 1:30 pm. McKERLIE - Daniel Dale passed away August ,11 2012, at the age of 69, following a struggle with cancer. MCLELLAN - Robert Cecil was born Dec. 5, 1921 at Penzance, SK and passed away June 25, 2008 at Veteran's Wing, Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, Regina, SK. He was the son of Alvin A. McLellan and Gertrude I. (Foote) McLellan, and the youngest of nine children. He attended Edenholme and Penzance Schools. He joined the Armed Forces (Calgary Tank Regiment) in 1942. He was overseas for three years where he was wounded in action. When he returned to Saskatchewan he farmed east of Penzance and also the Foote land, which had belonged to his maternal grandparents. He was an excellent carpenter and built two houses in Penzance. He retired to Regina in 1972. He became a director of Currie Rose and Shane Resources. He was predeceased by his parents; sisters Peggy Roe, Evelyn Downes, Olive Lane, Gertrude Hong, Bernice Gebhard and brother Earl. He is survived by two sisters Naida Lane and Jean Friese; a sister-in-law Janet McLellan and many nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service will take place at a later date. OLSPN - Alvin Michael Olson, resident of Mobile, Alabama, at age 90 passed away peacefully on September 7, 2011. Alvin was born March 15, 1921 in Penzance, Sask. Canada, to Andrew (Ole Andrias) and Selma Olson. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Velma; his sons, Jerald (wife Marsha Olson) of San Francisco, CA; Douglas (wife Nely Liwanag Olson) of Anchorage, AK and Ken (wife Dawn Roddy Olson) of Chesapeake, VA. and his grandchildren, Omny, Shannon, Eric, Jap and Carla. He was preceded in death by his sister, Milly, Marie and his brother, Andrew (Andy). He graduated from University of Saskatchewan, in 1946 with a BA in Chemistry. He began work for the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company in Manitoba. In 1957 Alvin and his family moved to Danbury, CN. to work for the Newmont Exploration Ltd as the Chief Chemist. After moving to Chesapeake, VA. in 1964, he completed his MBA from Old Dominion University. In his position with Virginia Chemicals as the Analytical Supervisor the family was transferred to Mobile in 1981 to open the Bucks Plant. He retired in 1984 and enjoyed many active retirement years. Alvin instructed computer skills for the Phillip College and electronics at the Southeast College of Technology, consulted for the EPA Super Fund project and was the Scout Master with a Mobile Boy Scouts troop. He loved the outdoors, science fiction, working in the yard and glassblowing in his workshop. A memorial gathering will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens, 6040 Three Notch Road, Mobile, Alabama, on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. PALMER - Dorothy Louise (nee Rayner) passed away November 28, 2009 at her home in Stensrud Lodge shortly after celebrating her 100th birthday with family and friends. She was born November 11, 1909 to Percy and Ethel Rayner at Foote, SK. later to be named Penzance. She grew up on the farm with six brothers and sisters and had many fond memories of those years. In 1932 she received her RN from the Regina General Hospital. It was an accomplishment that gave her a great deal of satisfaction. The communities where she lived were often recipients of her expertise. In 1935 she married Ross Palmer. They had two children, Betty Anne and Charles Edward born when Ross was teaching at Butterton School, a country school north of Earl Grey, SK. Over the years they also lived at Penzance, Regina and Moose Jaw as well as spending winters in Arizona after Ross's retirement. In 1999 Dorothy moved to Saskatoon to be close to her daughter. During her life she was always active in her church and community. She and Ross provided a secure and happy home for their family, always welcomed family and friends into their home, took part in many activities and developed their own interests. Their grandchildren were very special people to them. They were always interested in and stayed involved with each grandchild. PRESTON - Rosemond Leona (nee Berglund). "Lee" was born on October 23, 1926 in Penzance, SK to Ingwald and Mary Berglund, and passed away peacefully on November 2, 2011 in Calgary. RUETHER - Donald Andrew of Liberty, SK passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at Long Lake Valley Integrated Facility of Imperial, SK at the age of 81. Donald was born at Penzance, SK on September 26, 1925. He was predeceased by his parents: John and Margaret Ruether and a sister in law Vera Ruether. Donald completed his grade 12 in Penzance. In 1951 he moved to Liberty where Don run the Liberty Service Garage for 34 years. He also began farming in 1960 until retirement at age 65. SCHOLLER - Doris (nee Nancekievill) 1927 - 2014. It is with sadness that the family of Doris announces her passing on Thursday, March, 20th, 2014 at Sherbrooke Community Centre in Saskatoon, SK. at the age of 87 years. She had a strong faith and was an active member of her church. Doris' enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, sewing and geneology. She was born at Holdfast, SK in 1905 to pioneer parents, Thomas Francis Caldwell and Harriet Ann Allen. She was predeceased by her husband, Hugh Paul Searcy in 1988. She is survived by a daughter, Carol Ann Finch (Jessie) of Los Angeles, CA; a son, Gene (Linda) of Wakaw, SK; grandchildren, Alison Ciupa (Chet) of Calgary, AB, Karen Searcy (Michael Mercier) of Saskatoon, SK, Kevin Searcy (Dianne) of St. Albert, AB; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a niece, Mrs. Elaine Myrah of Regina, SK; and a nephew, Vernon Caldwell of Moose Jaw, SK. Beverly was educated at Kindred School, Regina College and Regina Normal School. She taught in one room country schools in the Holdfast, Penzance and Craik districts. In the 1920s and 1930s these schools were usually filled to capacity with students in grades one through nine. In 1936 she married Hugh Paul Searcy of Craik and they commenced farming at Strasbourg, SK. In 1942 they moved to the Caldwell homestead farm at Holdfast, operating that farm until retiring in 1967. In 1977 they moved to Saskatoon. Beverly was an active member of the United Church in Holdfast where she was the pianist and St. Paul's United Church in Saskatoon. The funeral will be held at the Saskatoon Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12 (courtesy parking south of the chapel on 4th Ave. N., please use the 25th St. entrance). Betty Porter was born in London England on the 29th of June, 1916 and came to Canada as a War Bride in 1944. She was active in the community of Penzance in the Ladies Auxiliary and also served as the Post Mistress for many years. Her energy may have flagged but her good humour and interest in life continued until her passing. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. While teaching in Imperial, SK she met George Strachan. They were married in 1950, farmed and lived in Penzance district until retiring to Regina in 1993. Clara ran the village Post Office until it closed in 1993. She also served as the village secretary for many years; she was active in the Ladies' Auxiliary and curling. She was an avid sports fan. Clara loved to garden and to play cards; there was usually a card game going on at the kitchen table, and the coffee pot was always on. Clara was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, George in 1998; parents William and Millicent Snowdon; one sister, Winnie Robertson and great grandson Kaden Sharpe. Following his return from overseas and the arrival of his family from Englund, they took up farming in the Holmsdale district, west of Craik, SK. Ken semi-retired in 1976 and moved into Craik. In 1990 Ken retired, and spent his time with family; fishing, golfing & gardening. Leona was predeceased by her husband Perry, parents Edward and Inga Erlandson, sister Esther Erlandson, as well as by Perry's parents, siblings and in-laws who were so important in her life. Leona was born August 26, 1921 at Penzance, SK. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She received her education at Iduna and Craik Schools, Luther College, and Balfour Tech. She worked at BA Oil and for the federal government in Regina and Winnipeg before marrying her beloved Perry on October 27, 1951 and moving to the farm at Bulyea. Even after retiring from office work to get married she always enjoyed doing books for the farm. To the delight of her family she gardened (as a duty) and made everything from scratch -whether it was food (from butter to grandma buns to rhubarb juice to pie to traditional Norwegian dishes) or knitted sweaters, mittens and blankets, or scrapbooks for the grandchildren. Perry and Leona farmed together for 45 years. They retired to Strasbourg in 1996, but continued spending summers at the farm for several years. Leona was a faithful member of Norrona Lutheran Church and was involved in the life of the congregation in many ways, including teaching Sunday school, participating in ELCW, providing secretarial support to ministers, and serving on church council as treasurer for 24 years. She loved receiving letters and corresponded faithfully with many friends and relatives all over the world. She was a walking birthday and anniversary book who never forgot people on their special days. She loved visiting with her friends and her family her children and grandchildren above all and always had her visitors sign her guestbook. She kept track of the family history and enjoyed sharing it, along with stories from her childhood and early adulthood. She loved to travel almost anywhere, but her three trips to Norway were the highlight. Her spoon collection and meticulously maintained photo albums chronicled her travels. Leona was an interesting and interested person who will always be remembered with joy and gratitude for her caring, generosity, and faith. Everywhere she went, she left an impression, and an encounter with Niki was not something you would forget. She was known for her gentle disposition and compassionate ways, her presence always leaving behind a little of her light with each encounter. Love and authenticity drove her to make a difference in the lives around her. Always advocating for the underdog, she would not stand for discrimination & was not afraid to stand up for anyone who she thought to be treated unjustly. Niki was also well known for her artistic abilities. When her mind was set she poured her focus into producing original majestic paintings, offering the world a glimpse into her colourful imagination. She was passionate about nature and the environment, and had a special connection with animals. She provided an example in living a lifestyle that was sensitive to the well-being of the environment. She lived a minimalist life, choosing to be happy with the things she had and generous in sharing anything she had offer to others who she thought needed it more. As an adult she fell in love with Nelson, BC where she earned a reputation for her vibrant, loving spirit and artistic talent. This city always beckoned her and eventually became the place she called home. The mountains were where she found the most peace. Niki dreamed of a world where people were kind to one another and to the environment. In her memory we ask that, in your encounters with anyone struggling, you reserve judgement and kindly offer a hand, as she would have. They remained on the farm until retiring to Holdfast in 1978, where Doris lived till she was 99 years and then she moved to the Long Lake Valley Integrated Health Care Facility in Imperial Sask. on April 4th. 2011. Doris was well known for her contributions to the United Church and was a choir member for over 75 years. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, dancing and walking. She enjoyed her morning coffee with friends at the Holdfast Cafe. Her greatest joy was her family, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family members. A family interment service will follow the church service. TRIPPS - Harvey J. - February 10, 1926 - October 8, 2008. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of J. Harvey Tripps on October 8, 2008 at the age of 82 in Comox B.C., after a short battle with cancer while visiting his son. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Hilda and Carl Tripps and sister Merle Schindel. Harvey will be dearly missed by his loving wife June, daughter Janice (Bill), son Gary (Barb) and grandchildren Tamara, Ryan, Trevor, and Shannon, great grand children Avery and Lauren and sister Irene Code. At an early age Harvey took over the family farm where he farmed the next 40 years. They sold the family farm and then Mom and Dad moved to Holdfast, where Dad began a second career selling farm machinery. In 2003 due to failing health they moved to Saskatoon to be near their daughter. Dad enjoyed curling, fishing, playing cards and socializing with friends. Many hours were spent in the woodworking shop where he crafted special projects for the family. He was a loyal Calgary Flames and Saskatchewan Roughriders fan as well as a self-proclaimed armchair quarterback. Grandchildren and great grandchildren were the reason he had a sparkle in his eye. A service of remembrance will be held to honour the life of Harvey November 10, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at the Penzance Cemetery. Interment to follow. TRIPPS - June Ann Irene (June 16th, 1929 - January 26th, 2011). It is with sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our mother June Ann Irene Tripps on Wednesday, January 26th, 2011 at Stensrud Lodge, Saskatoon, SK. Mom grew up in the Abbey area and went to Normal School in Moose Jaw. In 1949 she accepted a teaching position at Iduna School where she met our Dad, Harvey. They farmed in the Penzance district until they sold the farm in 1978 and moved to Holdfast. Due to failing health they moved to Saskatoon to be near their daughter. While her health permitted, she planted a large garden and loved to sew. Summer would find her working in their large yard tending to the garden and flowers. Winter days would be spent at the sewing machine-sewing everything from tailored garments to draperies and winter evenings would be spent playing cards with friends. Mom is survived by her daughter Janice (Bill) and their children Tamara and Ryan of Saskatoon; son Gary (Barb) and their children Shannon (Trent) of Comox, British Columbia and Trevor (Cheryl) of Slave Lake Alberta; great-grandchildren Avery, Lauren, Hayley and Cameron; siblings Della, Ernie, Velma, Dale; sister-in-law Irene Code. Charles was born in the Penzance District in 1916. In 1941 he joined the Federal Civil Service in Regina and in the same year he enlisted in the Canadian Army Postal Corps. Charles served in various military bases across Canada until his discharge in 1946. He farmed for 20 years (1947-1967) in the Penzance area. During this time he owned and operated a hardware store in Payette, Idaho, USA for 20 years (1960-1980). Charles moved to Victoria, BC in 1976 and returned to Regina in 2000. In Regina, she was active in Heritage and Zion United Churches, took part in Round and Square dancing, quilted at Zion until last December and walked with the Northgate Walkers until she entered the hospital on April 25. Edith and her family celebrated her ninetieth birthday with many family and friends last August. She will be missed and remembered by all those who knew and loved her. Edwin is survived by his loving wife Mildred of 61 years; children Lee, Bonnie Nagel, Carol (John) Carruthers and Gaylene (Ken) Hipfner; grandchildren Rhonda (Chris) Bjorndahl, Jason Hipfner (Stacey Fayant), Angela Hipfner (Kenton Hall) and Peter Carruthers; great grandchildren Shanelle and Ryland Bjorndahl; aunt Florence Marshall; sisters Myrtle Bishop, Beatrice (Walter) Schaffer and Irene (Pat) Hunt; Mildred's sisters Evelyn Handford, Leona Busche, Ella Zeigler as well as numerous nieces nephews, cousins and friends. Edwin started his service first with the Air Force and then went into the Army. He was employed for over 25 years with City Dairy and then worked with the Corps Commissionaires. Edwin will be remembered by his family as being a devoted husband, dad, grandpa and great grandpa. He was an avid fisherman, gardener and crib player. He enjoyed being at the cottage and the lake and times being spent with his family. A memorial service will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Regina Memorial Gardens. WOOLSEY - Albert Harlan. On Saturday November 7, 2015, Dr. A. Harlan Woolsey of Edmonton, passed away at the age of 91 years. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen; three children, Dawn (Waldy) Ponich of Vernon, B.C., Ian (Barbara) Woolsey of T�te Jaune Cache, B.C., and Leighton Woolsey of Fort Assiniboine, AB. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Ebert and Christine Woolsey; and seven brothers and sisters. Harlan was born and raised on a farm near Penzance. Upon completion of high school, he joined the RCAF, serving overseas as a wireless radio technician from 1942 to 1945. At war's end he returned to Canada and studied dentistry at McGill University in Montreal, under a veteran's education program. Upon graduating in 1950, he practiced dentistry at North Battleford, Kinistino and Biggar, Sask. before completing his career and retiring in Edmonton.He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge, and an expert carpenter and wood worker, making hundreds of items for family and friends.Cremation has taken place at and Harlan's request, no funeral service will be held. A private inurnment will be held at a later date in the family plot at Penzance, Saskatchewan.The family would sincerely like to express their appreciation to the caregivers at Lifestyle Options, Terra Losa (Edmonton), who cared for Harlan the last five years. WOOLSEY - McKenny P. "Ken". Saturday, February 23, 2002, Mr. McKenny P. Woolsey, age 83 years, late of Regina. Ken was born in Penzance, SK on December 18, 1918. He and his family moved to Regina in 1923. Ken was predeceased by his parents, William and Annie Woolsey; brother Ernie; sister Anne Hay; brothers-in-law, Bud Hay, Bill Crippin and Walter Drever; and his beloved wife of fifty-six years, Hilda, on November 17, 1999. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Drever, Frances Janke, Mabel Woolsey and Opal Hay; brother-in-law Raymond Hay; sisters-in-law, Joyce Crippin, Dora Crippin and Jen Woolsey; nine nieces and nephews and their families. Ken served overseas with the Canadian Army and was a member of the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans No. 18. He was employed by the C.P. Railway for thirty-seven years. Ken and Hilda enjoyed many years of travel, skating at the Queen City Skating Club, as well as being active members of the Pasqua Pioneer Group.
