AHLBERG - Nancy (nee Junor), late of Regina, SK, passed away on December 20, 2003 with dignity and grace at the age of 74 years. Beloved wife of the late Russell Ahlberg, loving mother of Lyn Vilcu (Scott Sellsted) and proud grandmother of Adam and Angela Vilcu. She will also be lovingly remembered by her stepsons: Alan (Kathy) Ahlberg and their children; Cori (Scott) Richards, Jessica (Ramy) Nijmeh, Tom Ahlberg, and Jean Ahlberg, and one great grandchild, Shelby Richards, David (Sharon) Ahlberg and their children Stephanie Ahlberg and Kristofor Ahlberg. She is also survived by one stepsister Jean (Don) Cairns. Nancy was born July 7, 1929 in Regina, SK. In June 1965, she married Russell and moved to Wolf Point, MT where they owned and operated the Tip Top Motel. In 1977, the family returned to Canada and lived in Regina until moving to Pense in 1984. They ran a Fashion Two Twenty Studio for many years until she joined the work force at SaskOil. She made many lasting friendships wherever she went and enjoyed her retirement in Pense until 1997 when Russell passed away and she returned to Regina. She spent a couple of years in Midale, to be closer to her family but upon losing her eyesight, returned to Regina. She was a caring and adoring lady who loved all those around her. Her life centered around Adam and Angela whom she enjoyed spending as much time with as possible. She always had a smiling face and a kind word for those around her. A caring and sensitive woman who never lost her sense of humor even throughout her illness. Her great outlook and positive attitude kept her and her family and friends going throughout many trials and tribulations. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by those whose lives she touched. Reception to follow at Wascana Family & Community Centre, 2333 Cornwall Street. ALEXANDER - Lorne Samuel (April 8, 1959 - February 12, 2014). It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our brother and uncle, Lorne Samuel Alexander. Lorne passed away suddenly on February 12, 2014 in Edmonton, Alberta. Lorne was born April 8, 1959 in Regina, Sk and grew up in Pense, Sk. He graduated from the University of Regina with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. After graduating from university, Lorne started his career working for the Government of Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming. Shortly after, he moved to Alberta where he pursued his career in Calgary and Edmonton working for Bow Valley Community College, Grant MacEwan College and the Alberta Government. He remained active his entire life involved in hockey, curling, working out at the gym and enjoyed travelling. Lorne was very dedicated to his family and made numerous trips back to Saskatchewan to visit, devoting countless hours to his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Wesley and Phyllis Alexander. Lorne will be dearly missed and always remembered by his brother, Fred (Sheila) Alexander of Pense, his sister, Lynn Valera of Regina; nieces and nephews: Laurie (Dwight) Alexander, Byron (Holly) Alexander, Whitney (Keith) Valera, Gillian (Joseph) Valera and Justin Valera, Great-niece and nephew Tyson and Jada Alexander. As per Lorne's wishes, no funeral service will be held. ALEXANDER - Phyllis Eileen (nee Lowery) passed away on Friday, April 4, 2008 at the Regina Lutheran Home. Phyllis was predeceased by her beloved husband, Wesley Alexander, and her parents Fred and Mary Lowery. She is survived by her loving family; her daughter Lynn (Chuy) Valera of Pense; her sons Fred (Sheila) of Pense and Lorne of Edmonton. Cherishing her memory are her five grandchildren: Whitney, Gillian and Justin Valera, Laurie (Jake) Montgomery and Byron Alexander; her brother-in-law John (Judy) Alexander, sisters-in-law Esther Alexander, Shirley (Gordon) Engstrom and Betty Alexander, as well as many nieces, nephews and many, many friends. ALEXANDER - Wesley Donald passed away on Monday, February 12, 2001 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by his parents Sam and Velma; brother Robert. Wes is survived by his loving wife and soul mate of forty-seven years, Phyllis, his daughter Lynn (Chuy) Valera of Pense; his sons Fred (Sheila) of Pense and Lorne of Calgary. ANDERSON - Elizabeth "Lily" (nee Jennings), age 86, formerly of the Pense District, passed away on Monday, February 18, 2002 in Regina, Sask. She was born February 24, 1915 at Craigduff Cottage, Downpatrick, Northern Ireland. Lily immigrated with her family to Canada in 1921. Lily grew up on the family farm south of Pense, she graduated as a teacher from the Regina Normal School in 1935. While teaching at McCord, she met and married Herman Anderson in 1939. Lily was an active farm wife, mother of seven, who participated in several women's organizations, Associated Country Women of the World and the Saskatchewan Women's Institute, which worked towards improving the education, quality of life, and health conditions of rural women in Canada and world wide. Lily also served on the Pense School Board for many years. As an enthusiastic member of All Saint's Anglican Church, Pense, Lily was the organist for many years and a member of the Women's Auxiliary. In her later years, Lily was a member of the community of Qu'Appelle House, Senior's Residence in Regina. She had many good friends there and enjoyed the comradeship and activities for eight years. Her family thanks the staff for their kindness towards her. Predeceased by her husband Herman in 1972, and her sisters Mary Jennings, Jennie Hunt, and Nora Wilkinson. She is survived by her 7 children and their families, Maurice (Carolle), Calgary, their children, Keira, Dean, and Ryan; Terry (Della), Pense, their children, Crystal and Neal (Theresa); Ken (Carol), Toronto; John (Barbara), Edmonton, their children, Jonathan and Sarah; Jim (Rosemarie), Camrose, their children, Derek (Young Rang) and Lara (Kirk Grunow); Elizabeth (Brian Elliott), Edmonton; Jeanette (Wayne Staples), Wolfville, NS, and Loral Zacharias. Lily has six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Annie Gushwa, Shelbyville, Indiana, Peggy Murphy, Ottawa, ON and sisters-in-law, Vera Hamilton, Clara Macmillan, Thelma Ellis, and Alice Anderson, and her many nieces and nephews. BADLEY - Maybell Berneise (Jewell) born January 12, 1932, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2005. She is survived by much loved family daughters Melveen and Joy, son-in-law Terry McLean; Grands, Rory, Greg, Terra and Michael; Greats, Jesse, Taylor and Kalin. Very dear companion Elmer, one brother-in-law Des and two very dear sisters-in-law, Shirley and Della, two nieces Marie and Charlotte, and four nephews, Lloyd, Kelly, Mark and Byron, many dear cousins and many, many friends. A long time resident of Pense, Berneise was a member of All Saints' Anglican Church, Pense Seniors, Pense Housing Board and Rec. Board. Funeral Service will be held at the Pense Town Hall on Thursday, April 28, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. Interment of ashes will follow at All Saints' Cemetery in Pense. BALDERSTON - Norm Balderston passed away peacefully with family at his side on August 2, 2005. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Edith; sister Lillan and brothers Reg and Bert; daughter-in-law Lorie; sisters-in-law, Marj Balderston, Florence Humphrey, and Florence Hemsworth; and brothers-in-law, Les Rogers, Doug Humphrey, and Spence Hemsworth. He is survived by his wife Jean, sons Dennis (Beth), Greg, and their families; sister-in-law Doris Rogers, and numerous nieces and nephews. Norm was born in Lincolnshire, England, July 20, 1914 and came to Canada with his parents in 1921 to a farm in the Rouleau district. He graduated from Reliance Business College in 1932. He moved to Moose Jaw in 1939 and began farming in the Pense district in 1940. He retired from farming in 1973. Norm was an avid sportsman, enjoyed baseball, hockey, curling, golf and playing cards with his friends at the Hillcrest Sports Centre. He was a member of the Saskatchewan Curling Association Executive Council for many years and became the Executive Director in 1966 until his retirement in 1980. He was a President of the Moose Jaw Curling Club and an Honorary Life Member of the Hillcrest Sports Centre and Saskatchewan Curling Association. For his contribution to sports, he received the Cosmopolitan Distinguished Service award in 1967 and the Moose Jaw Citizen of the Year award in 1968. He was inducted into the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame in 1988 and into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame in 1995. Last but not least, Norm loved and was concerned for his family and always was ready with a helping hand or kind word whenever the situations arose. He was truly an inspiration to all of us who knew and loved him. Funeral Services will take place at Zion United Church, 423 Main St. N., Moose Jaw on Monday, August 22, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Molly Kitchen will officiate. Memorialization will follow at Rosedale Cemetery at a later time. BELL - Nellie Marguerite (nee Thompson) passed away peacefully at Parkside Extendicare on February 19, 2008 at age 102. Nellie was born July 16, 1905 at Broadfields farm S21-T18-R22-W2 north of Pense, NWT. She was predeceased by her parents, Wellington Thompson and Ethel Mae (Rea); her husband of 44 years, John William (Bill) Bell in 1977; younger sisters, Mae Riome (1997), Irene Roney (2007) and Eva Toderan (2006). She is survived by daughters Noreen (Rev. Welby) Walker, Surrey, BC; Edythe Bell, Regina; Wilma (David) Wessel, Regina; grandsons Graham (Colleen) Walker, Brent Walker, and Brian, Nathan and Cary Wessel; granddaughter Denise (Mohan) Teekasingh; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Dorothy Bell; and several nieces, nephews and relatives. Church and family were central to her life. She joined Forest Presbyterian (later United) Church in 1915 and there enjoyed the choir and Women's Missionary Society. Primary education was at Cottonwood School, secondary education at Regina College and Paragon Business College. While at college, she joined Westminster United Sunday School and C.G.I.T. and remained affiliated there until her death. She was an honorary life member of the Orange Benevolent Society. Her church, lodge and musical activities of her daughters provided deep enjoyment and spiritual inspiration. After Bill's death in 1977, she moved to The Heritage Apts. where she lived for 24 years and then to Parkside Extendicare at age 96. In 2005, she received the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal, and with donations from family and friends at her 100th birthday celebration established the Nellie M. Bell Centennial Bursary for young students at the Conservatory of Performing Arts. Her activities were hampered by glaucoma and arthritis, but she maintained her sense of humour and cheerfulness to the end. The family wishes to thank Dr. S. Bester for his excellent long term care. We also would express our appreciation and sincere gratitude to all the Parkside staff who treated her (and her daughters) with much love and attention. Interment at a later date at Regina Memorial Gardens. BERNER - Walter George Berner passed away peacefully with family by his side on Sunday, February 19, 2006, at the age of 78 years. Walter is predeceased by his infant son Dale Walter, parents Henry and Olga, and one brother Ernest. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 55 years Norma; children: Brian and Brenda; three grandchildren: Devin, Brittany and Adam; sister Ruth (Clarence) Scheller, brother Mervin ( Darlene) Berner; numerous nieces and nephews. Walter started farming in the Pense District in 1951 and farmed until 1981 when he and Norma moved into Regina. He was active in the church and a member of the Regina Plains School Division. He enjoyed curling, square dancing, fishing and took up wood working in his retirement and was involved in delivering meals on wheels. BERNHAUSER - Mary (nee Zinchesin) was called home to be with her Lord on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at the age of 94 years. She leaves to mourn her son Bill Bernhauser of Regina and daughter Elizabeth Herman (Gordon) of Calgary, grandchildren Karen Larsen (Ken), Brent Bernhauser (Donna), Patti Bernhauser (Kevin Milligan), Ryan Bernhauser (Jae Navid), Gordon Herman Jr. (Corie), Don Herman (Denise), and Joanne VanderPloeg (Andy), along with 12 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Predeceased by her husband Joseph and infant son, parents Barbara Swirski and Paul Zinchesin, brother Dr. Bill Zinchesin, sisters Annie Ferguson and Olga Santalab and daughter-in-law Donna Bernhauser (Bill). Mary was born in Sheho, SK January 18, 1915. She later moved to Pense and became the bride of Joseph November 3, 1934. Work with the railroad took them to Stalwart, Gibbs, Penzance and Dilke moving to Regina in 1966. She was a long standing member of the C.W.L. of Good Samaritan Parish. Mary's cooking skills were put to good use as she was involved with the church's catering and was for a time the assistant cook. Her perogy pinching skills were legendary as she kept a watchful eye on the rookie pinchers during the many perogy bees that were held. We are happy to say that this skill will not end with her. Throughout the many hardships and illnesses in her life, she remained optimistic and focused on the well being of others before her own needs. She will be sadly missed by the ones she leaves behind; but her legacy of goodness, hard work and determination will forever guide our lives. It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ellen Bjerrisgaard, age 73 on Tuesday, April 24, 2001, dearly beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Ellen is predeceased by husband Svend and parents Karen, Marie, Johanne Nielsen & Soren Frederik Damgaard and brother Jens Peder Damgaard. A private committal of ashes will take place at a later date. BRUNSKILL - Doug. Dad got his final wish on Monday, August 29, 2011, leaving this world for whatever lies beyond. A life well lived and loved, he was good to go. Doug was born on the family farm south of Pense on July 10, 1921. He served as an air frame mechanic in the Royal Canadian Air Force in England during WWII. Doug was a farmer, and loved the land. Predeceased by his wife Tressa; Doug is survived by daughter Kim, son-in-law Ron Blechinger and grandchildren Joel and Kate; sister June (Harv) White; in-laws Ron Thatcher, Roy Morris, Bernice Bayne, Mavis and Jim Fairburn, and Ethel Hughes; special cousin Ruth Brown; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. At Doug's request, a private graveside service will be held. Thanks to the nurses, special care aides and Dr. Newton at Unit 3-6 in Wascana Rehabilitation Centre for their quality care. BRUNSKILL - Evelyn Margaret (nee Campbell). Known to her family as Baba, Evelyn passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 19, 2005 at the age of 82. Evelyn was born and raised in Saskatoon and later moved to Pense when she married Wes in 1948. Pense was home for over 45 years, where she lived out her passion as wife, mother and grandmother. Ev loved volunteering within her community as a Cub Scout leader, Public Health Clinic coordinator, Eastern Star and later with the Canadian Red Cross. Ev had a great sense of humour and was always on call as the local Charlie Farquaharson. Predeceased by her husband Wes in 2001, Evelyn is survived by her three sons: Keith (Donna), Pense, and their daughters, Maren (Coulson) and Lindsay; Glen (Darlene), Regina, and their four sons, Scott (Carmen Anderson), Jared, Chad (Lindsay) and Luke; son Brian (Karen Frandsen), Regina; and great-grandchild, Abigaile. A celebration of Evelyn's life will be held at Knox-Met United Church, 2340 Victoria Ave., Regina, on Thursday, November 24, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. BURGESS - Alice Amy (nee Hogger) passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 in West Kelowna, BC, at the age of 95 years. Born on June 28, 1916 at South Coulee District, Pense, SK to Frank and Ada Hogger. She leaves behind her son Peter (Donna) McPhail, West Kelowna, BC; grandson Michael (Teresa) McPhail; granddaughter Erin McPhail; two great grandchildren: Mitchell land Jennifer McPhail; sister-in-law Dorothy Hogger; two nephews, a niece and their families. Predeceased by her husband Al Burgess in 1987 and her twin brothers Joseph and Stanley Hogger. Alice lived 70 years in Pense, SK before moving, with her husband, to Regina and in 2011 moved to Kelowna, BC. Alice was very proud of the time she spent working at Government House in Regina under His Honor Lt. Governor and Mrs. McNab. As a result, she was a guest at many receptions having met the Queen Mother, Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Prince Edward. She was thanked for her dedication to the history and restoration advice of Government House. Before retiring as post-mistress in Pense, SK, Alice worked as a bookkeeper for Singer Sewing Machine Corp., Co-op Oil, restaurant cook and was a volunteer member of Pense Homemakers' Club, All Saints Anglican Church Ladies Auxiliary, Boy Scout Leader, Regina and Pense Senior's Society and Regina and District Old Timers' Association. She will be missed by her family and many friends in Saskatchewan and Regina Village. At her request, she will be cremated and a Graveside Service will be held at the Regina Memorial Gardens at a later date. BURLING - Lois Elaine (nee Hind) October 21, 1943 - November 8, 2010. Our very special lady died peacefully at Wascana Grace Hospice at the age of 67, after a brief battle with cancer. Predeceased by her father Richard Hind in 1998, mother Marjorie (Ogilvie) Hind in 2002, nephew Evan Powell in 1977 and father-in-law George Burling in 1993, Elaine is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Garry Burling, sisters Marilyn (Jim) Hayes and Cheryl Hind, brothers Allan (Diane) Hind and Robert (Lynn) Hind, mother-in-law Virginia Burling, sister-in-law Gayle Davidson and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Elaine grew up and was educated in the Cottonwood district of Pense and began her career at Bank of Montreal in Regina in 1962. There she met Garry and they married at Cottonwood United Church in 1967. Their banking experiences were widely varied over the next 25 years and they were fortunate to relocate 13 times throughout Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta. In 1993 Elaine began volunteering at William Roper Hull Child and Family Services in Calgary, which evolved into the most fulfilling opportunity of her life. Retirement in 2004 brought them to Deer Valley where Elaine accepted another challenge as a secretary at the Lumsden United Church. She constantly expanded her circle of friends, whether through work, volunteer activities, on the golf course or involvement in curling. She will be missed by all. A Celebration of Elaine's life will be held at St. Andrews United Church in Lumsden, SK on Friday, November 19, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. CAMPBELL - Glen Miller. With deep sorrow, we announce the death of Glen Miller Campbell on February 1st, 2005 in Regina. Born on September 23, 1916 in Avonlea, SK, he was the third of seven children born to Sandy and Eva Campbell. He grew up on the family farm and attended Sunshine School. Glen was a natural athlete throughout his entire life, playing ball, rugby, hockey, curling, golf, shuffleboard and tennis. After Grade 12, Glen went to the University of Saskatchewan obtaining his Accounting Degree and Chartered Accountant's Designation in 1942. With the outbreak of World War II, Glen navigated RCAF bombers stationed in York, England and Aberdeen, Scotland. He met his sweetie, Fern Hagerty, farm daughter and Registered Nurse on the ice skating rink in Moose Jaw. They married in April 1946. Shortly after, Glen and his brothers led a team of 21 young men who custom combined wheat harvests from Texas to the Dakotas. In the spring of 1947 Glen attended his first of six Canadian Curling Championships, winning the MacDonald Brier in 1955 with brothers Garnet, Lloyd and Don. Over the years, his other curling mates were father Sandy, brother Gordon, Jack Keys and Bob Pickering. Glen was a 25-year Registered Seed Grower in the Pense district from 1950-1995 and a Founding Director of the Palliser Wheat Growers Assocation. He and Fern moved permanently to Regina in 1975 and started wintering in Texas. Glen lost Fern in 1985. He was blessed to have two special women in his life when he met Elsie Teulon. They continued to winter in Texas together, collecting many shuffleboard and golf trophies. He continued ""balancing the books"" for his relatives until his 88th birthday. Glen was predeceased by wife Fern, parents Sandy and Eva, brother Don, sister Verna and her husband Bill Evans, and Lloyd's wife, Wilma Campbell. Poppa will be sorely missed by children Doug (Irene) Campbell, Cochrane, AB; Glenys (Rand) McIntyre, Regina; James Campbell (Steve Stellenwerf), Houston, TX; and his loving companion Elsie Teulon; brothers Lloyd, Pense, Garnet (Deverne) and Gordon, Avonlea; sister Margaret (Archie) Smith, Boulder, CO; sister-in-law Grace Campbell, Toronto; and brotherand sisterin-law Ray and Anna Hagerty, Moose Jaw, as well as numerous nieces and nephews; Grandchildren Keith, Ross and Jennifer Campbell, Lindsay and Brandon McIntyre. CHESTON - Edith Annie (nee Garven), born April 9, 1919, died peacefully at home on April 3, 2002. Memorial service on Tuesday, April 9 at 2:00 p.m.,Lakeview United Church. Predeceased by her loving husband Cecil; her parents, James and Agnes Garven; her brothers John, James, Graham, Munroe, Hugh, William, Bruce; and her sister Isabel. She was born on September 27, 1938. There will be a Celebration of her life at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at the Pense Town Hall, Pense, SK. CURLISS - Helen Louise (nee Baxter), March 13, 1927 - February 2, 2006. Helen passed away unexpectedly, Thursday morning at RUH in Saskatoon. Predeceased by her husband George; her children and their partners and extended family are left to cherish her memory: Douglas (Karen Janke) of Saskatoon SK, Dean (Debbie) of Redondo Beach, CA, Alison Horpinuk (Duane) of Calgary AB, Brian (Gill) of Vancouver BC, Neil (Miranda) of Salem OR, Karen (David Spriggs) of Brisbane AU, her beloved granddaughters Andrea, Kereth and Fiona. Helen was raised in Pense, SK and attended Balfour Collegiate in Regina prior to studying nursing at Saskatoon City Hospital. While volunteering at Fort San, she met George Curliss, whom she would later marry and share 53 years. Thirty of those years they lived in Wynyard, where Helen divided her energy between her family, careers and serving the community. Helen nursed at the hospital for almost two decades, for a while ran George's office and was a partner in a local clothing store. She was very involved in the community: an active member of the local school board, music festival, Air Cadet Squadron, Red Cross Blood Donor Clinics and all the activities of her six children. In 1984 Helen and George retired to Saskatoon. She brought her small town sense of community. She could walk down a street and have four new friends. She joined Newcomers and remained a member of the alumni. She did aqua-size in the morning, bridge in the afternoon, and volunteered in between. She and George loved to travel and visit with their children in far off places. She of course loved to meet new people. Throughout her life she was active in the United Church. In Wynyard, she was a member of the UCW and the church board and taught Sunday school. Upon returning to Saskatoon she re-joined Knox United Church, where she served on several committees including the Fellowship committee, which was closest to her heart. A member of Eastern Star, Helen served in almost every office. In 2005 she received her 50 year pin. She lived life with vigor. She had some strong views and when she felt it necessary was usually not afraid to express them. Following George's battle with cancer and death in 2003, Helen suffered a heart attack. Both took their toll. To those who loved her she was the glue that held their lives together. To those who knew her, she was the personification of energy. She was the first to volunteer, continually looking for new challenges and new faces. She was a friend that could be counted on. Her life and energy seemed endless, and now that she is at peace it is hard to believe she is gone. DAVIDSON - Francis Alexander "Alex" passed away at Saanich Peninsula Hospital in Victoria, BC on July 26th, 2002. Alex was born in Pense, Saskatchewan to William and Dorinda Davidson on July 17, 1917 and moved to Victoria in 1948, marrying Georgina in 1949 after attending UBC and obtaining his BA and BSW. He became the Administrator for the Department of Social Welfare, City of Victoria then worked for the Human Resources Department, Provincial Government before retirement. Alex is survived by his wife of 53 years, Georgie, son Greg and his wife Josie, daughter Alix Noble and her husband Gordon; grandchildren Melissa Mosi and her husband Stefano, Tristan Noble, Matthew Davidson and Geoffrey Davidson. Alex was very proud of his children and granchildren and was always very supportive of his family. Alex enjoyed music very much and sang in a number of choirs in Victoria as well as being an active member of First Baptist Church for many years. He enjoyed keeping busy with many hobbies and activities. A very kind man, he gave of his time and talents generously and he was a true gentleman. We will all miss him very much. Walter Ellis will be held on August 6th at 2 p.m. at St. Stephen Anglican Church in Saanichton, BC to celebrate his life. DOUGLAS - Shawn Roderick Douglas. It is with great sadness that Shawn's life was senselessly taken at the age of 54 years. DOWNS - Roy Raymond. On May 21, 2008 Roy Downs passed away in Edmonton. Roy grew up at Lewvan and Grand Coulee then farmed near Pense until the early 1980's. He was fortunate to have an occupation he truly loved. He enjoyed hearing about work on the farm right to the end of his life. He served his community through active participation in the United Church as well as serving on the school board and as Mayor of Pense in the early 1970's. Roy was an avid stamp and coin collector and enjoyed camping, curling, cribbage and bridge. Family was always his first priority. Roy was predeceased by his infant son Jimmie (1946) and his first wife Isabel (1976). He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Edna; his daughters Lois Pinno (Ernie); Linda Brown (Rod); Phyllis Roach (Norm); Brenda Prokopetz (Lorne); and his grandchildren Chris Pinno (Adriana); Brad Pinno (LeeAnne); Kelly Brown (Travis); Tracy Brown (Derek); Janice Brown (Richard) Brian Brown; Susan Sawarin (Tim); Laureen Schan (Doug); Patrick Roach (Amy); Kory Roach (Sasja); Jordan Roach (Mar); Jenn and Scott Prokopetz. Born in Pense, Mary taught school for many years in Saskatchewan beginning her career at Beaver Bluff school near Preeceville. She left teaching for a number of years to start her family and help Glen operate a General Store at Summerberry for seven years. They returned to teaching and she taught in Hyas, Stenen, Preeceville and Imperial. Upon retirement, Mary and Glen took to gardening with vigor, supplying many family and friends with the fruits (and vegetables) of their labour. Mary also did handicrafts; beaded bells and quilting were two of her favorites. They had RV'd for many years and in retirement headed off in their motor home for the southern States for seven winters. In the fall of 2000 Mary moved to Calgary to be closer to her family. DUNNING - Jean (nee Harvey), Our beloved mother passed away on Friday September 26, 2008 at the age of 88 years. Jean was born on Oct. 29th 1919 in Tuxford, SK. She had lived in and around the Pense District for many years, where she met and married George Dunning. She enjoyed gardening and her flowers, almost anything to do with the outdoors. FOLEY - Margaret Elaine (nee Weckman) passed away recently at her home in Regina at the age of 82 years. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon; parents Clifford and Bertha (Nuttall) Weckman and siblings Cecil, Jean (Haggerty-Decker), and Gladys (Bircher). Left to cherish her memory are her children Brian (Donna) of Richmond, B.C., Robert of Evansville, Indiana, Brenda, Judie Flamand, and Betty (Bruce) Rogers; grandchildren Gordon, Meghan, Steven, Sean, Wade, David, Leland and Larissa; four great grandchildren; sister Shirley Richardson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Elaine was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and was raised on the Weckman farm at Pense. She attended Normal School (teacher's training) in Regina and was teaching in Stoughton when she met Gordon. They were married in 1945 and had nearly 60 wonderful years together. One of Elaine's fondest memories was their 50th Wedding Anniversary party at the family cottage at Regina Beach. Elaine spent many years on the UCW at Broadway United Church and more recently as the choir director for the Daughters of the Nile Choir in Regina. Family and music were two of her great joys in life. FOSTER - Frank John passed away Saturday October 3, 2009 at Regina General Hospital at the age of 75 years. Frank was predeceased by his parents Jack and Clara Foster, and Kenton Petkau, grandson in-law. Frank is survived by his wife Julia (Gregory) with whom he shared 55 years of his life and his children, Janice (Bruce) Nuttall, Stephen (Debra) Foster, Susan (Doug) Wolff. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Michael (Lori) Nuttall, Robin Petkau, Jenna Nuttall (Cory), Carie (Darcy) Carter, Christopher Foster, Quinn and Clare Wolff and great grandson Harley Nuttall. Frank was born on the farm at Pense and grew up and spent his life in the Pense District. He had two loves, his wife Julia and the love of farming. Peacefully, on Wednesday, December 27, 2000, James (Jim) Garven passed away in his sleep at Red River Place in Selkirk, Manitoba. He was 88. Jim is survived by his two daughters and their families: Pat MacDonald and her friend, John Steves, of Winnipeg (Leigh Garven Turner and his friend, Jenn Gold, of Montreal and Colleen Ann Turner and her husband, Paul Harvey, of Calgary), and Jean Hummerston, and er husband, Les of St. Andrews (Kelly James Hummerston of St. Andrews and Tanya Frances Hummerston and her partner, Duane Zorniak, of Winnipeg). Also surviving are Jim's sisters, Jennie McMillan (Kelowna), Edith Cheston (Regina), and Louise Read (Calgary), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his parents, James and Agnes Garven; his brothers, John, Grahame, Munroe, Hugh, William. and Bruce Garven; his sister, Isabel Downs; his son-in-law, John (Jack) MacDonald; and his beloved wife, Frances. Born in Pense, Saskatchewan, Jim was raised on the family farm. Her served with the Kangaroo Regiment as a Staff Sergeant in the Canadian Army in World War II, commanding tanks in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Jim married Frances Farquharson in Regina in 1944. After returning from the war, he drove taxi and later did custom combining in Canada and the United States, eventually moving to Portage la Prairie where Jim and his brother, Hugh, operated several automobile and farm machinery dealerships. During the 1950's, Jim and Frances moved to Winnipeg with Jean and Pat. From that time until his retirement in 1980, Jim worked in several car dealerships. Jim spoke often of his years working for Sam Stern and David Dveris at Winnipeg Motors on Main Street. Even in the months before his death, one of Jim's favourite activities was to regale his grandchildren with stories about particularly memorable car sales. Following Frances' death in 1978, Jim moved to Selkirk to be near Pat, Jean, and his grandchildren. Many of their fondest memories are of Jim doing "foreman" duties while his family planted the garden, fixed the tractor, or cleared snowdrifts. Perhaps Jim and Frances' greatest legacy is the strong work ethic they instilled in their children and grandchildren. The family would like to express its sincere gratitude to the staff at Red River Place for their attention and compassion towards Jim over the past several years, and to Dr. R. Lindenschmidt for his considerate and respectful care. Jim's life was celebrated in a private family service. His ashes were interred at Brookside Cemetery with his beloved Frances. GILCHRIST - Della (nee Badley). It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Della. Born October 4, 1923 and entered into rest on Saturday, October 27, 2007. She was born and lived most of her life in the Pense area. Della is predeceased by her husband, Ken; parents, Lloyd and Josephine Badley; and brother, Melvin. Della is survived and will be missed by her son, Lloyd; daughter, Charlotte (Cecil) Hall of Regina Beach and their family; brother, Desmond (Shirley) Badley; sister-in-law Anne Gilchrist of Saskatoon. She has many nieces and nephews and has been a grandma to many. David leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 60 years, Mary; daughters Adrienne Giljam and Marlene (John) Lehmann; son David (Lorna) Giljam; two grandsons John David (J.D.) Lehmann and David M. David was born November 30, 1932 in Utrecht, Holland and came to Canada at the age of 17 with his parents and sisters where they settled in Pense, SK in April of 1950. He met his loving wife Mary in Pense and they were married on February 14, 1953. He joined the Regina City Police on May 1, 1952 as a constable and was promoted through the ranks, retiring after 32 years as Superintendent In Charge of the Criminal Investigation Division on May 31, 1984. From 1974 to 1979 David was seconded from the City Police to the Attorney General�s Department to establish the Saskatchewan Police College at the University of Regina Campus. After his retirement in 1984 David and Mary enjoyed many holiday trips in Canada and abroad. He and his family loved seasonal camping at Rowan�s Ravine Provincial Park for many years. David was very proud of his two grandsons, John David (J.D.) Lehmann and David M. Giljam and enjoyed them very much. A memorial service will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. GILMOUR - Helen (nee Busch), age 81 years, passed away on Friday, May 19, 2006 at the Grace Hospice in Regina, SK, after a lengthy illness. Born north of Melville, SK on August 27, 1924, she attended schools north of Melville before moving to Regina. She worked at various restaurants and then at Regina Industries on Winnipeg Street, where she painted markings on anti-aircraft shells and later inspected them for Canada's Second World War munitions production effort. Helen lived on a farm between Disley and Pense before moving to Regina in 1957, where she worked at the Regina General Hospital. In 1958, she moved with her family to Mossbank. In 1972, she moved to Regina where she again worked at the Regina General Hospital, in the diet kitchen until retirement in 1989. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy in 1990; six brothers and seven sisters. Mrs. Gilmour is survived by two daughters Barbara (Mark) MacNaughton of Regina, SK and Patricia (Larry) Dennison of Thomson Lake, SK; son Robert of Edmonton, AB; brother Edward Busch of Edmonton, AB; four grandchildren Lori (Marcel) Porte of Yorkton, SK, Jason (Dana) Dennison of Saudi Arabia and Shane and Leah MacNaughton of Regina, SK; three great grandchildren Jaden, Jaret and Jenna Porte of Yorkton, SK as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. She loved watching sports especially the Blue Jays & the Riders. She was always ready for a game of scrabble or cards, especially crib & the coffee was always on. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, & friend who will be missed by many. GRAHAM - Ross Tucker, passed away in Victoria, B.C. on January 2, 1999. Predeceased by his wife, Colena, brothers, Donald, Robert, Basil and sister, Evelyn, he leaves to mourn: daughter, Moyra of Victoria and her children, Kirk Peacey of Victoria and Nicole Peacey of Edmonton; son, Colin (Wendy) and their children, Corey and Colena Graham all of Victoria. Ross is also survived by his younger brother, Harvey (Vera) of Edmonton as well as numerous relatives in Saskatchewan, Alberta, B.C., Ontario, the United States and the UK. Ross was born in Keystown, Sask. on January 17, 1917. He attended school in Pense, Sask. and lived and worked in Regina. He was a veteran of the Second World War from 1939 to 1945 and served overseas with the Canadian Army. He was employed for many years with Imperial Oil in Regina and also for several years with Larochelle Trucking, retiring in 1979. He came to Victoria in 1992. A Service of Remembrance will be held at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1155 Fort Street in Victoria on Thursday, January 7 at 2:00 P.M. followed by cremation. HARVEY - Donald McKeith. On Wednesday, September 1, 2010 Donald McKeith Harvey, late of Regina, passed away at the age of 81 years. Born in Pense on September 23, 1928, Don was the second child of seven. Donald was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He is predeceased by his parents Frances and Merrill Harvey; brothers Glen Harvey & Hughie Harvey, and infant daughter Jean. He is survived by his loving wife Greta; sons Brian (Kerry) Harvey & Keith (Irene) Harvey; daughters Karen Schindler, Debbie (Dmytro) Kazmyra, & Dawn (Kevin) Newson; 15 grandchildren; one great grandchild; sisters Marg Slinn & Shirley Blondeau; brothers John Harvey & Mervin Harvey and several nieces & nephews. Don loved many things in life, most of all his family. He loved his grandchildren and spoiled them endlessly; it was a good excuse for him to have a treat too. His favourite time of the year was Christmas, when his family was gathered together, and he was excited to see the kids and their gifts. He loved tinkering with cars, any kind of motor and home repairs. He loved collecting tools and gadgets, and would buy new ones instead of finding his own. Marj and Dick married in 1936 and farmed at Pense until 1970. Marj devoted her life to raising her family, farming and actively contributing to community clubs. Retiring to Vernon they travelled extensively across Canada, often taking grandchildren on holidays. After Dad's passing, Mom moved to Calgary enjoying family until the end. Her wish was that no funeral be held. Mom's ashes will be brought home to Erimus farm to be joined with Dad's for eternity. HOGGER - Stanley Fredrick Hogger passed away July 31, 2002 at age 85 at Regina Pioneer Village. Predeceased by his parents, Frank and Ada Hogger of Pense, SK; twin brother Joseph of North Battleford, SK; and a brother-in-law Alvin Burgess. Stanley leaves to mourn the loss, his sister, Alice Burgess of Regina, SK; sister-in-law Dorothy Hogger of North Battleford, SK; nephews, Peter McPhail (Donna) of Kelowna, BC and Peter Hogger (Carmen) of North Battleford; as well as great-nephews and nieces. "Marnie" (nee Esplen) was born on June 29, 1938 in Pense, SK and passed away peacefully on October 13, 2001 in Regina, SK. She was predeceased by her dad, Henry Esplen, in 1986. They raised a daughter and two sons. In 1952, they moved to the Pense area where they farmed until 1972, then retired to Regina. In 1990, Harry and Cecile celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Harry was predeceased by his wife, Cecile; brothers, Merrill and Glen; sister-in-law Karen; brother-in-law, Art Sherrer; grandchild Wesley Johnson. Gardening was his forte. John was born in Ponteix in 1924 and later moved to the home farm south west of Lumsden. After marrying Edith he moved to a farm north of Pense which he looked after. He then moved his family into the town of Pense where he worked for the Massey Ferguson dealership. When the dealership closed, John started working at Kalium Potash Plant until his retirement. Long after working at Massey, his mechanical skills were much in demand. At retirement, he enjoyed ice fishing in the winter and gardening in the summer. During the last few years, he looked forward to the days he spent working with Eldon. John will always be remembered for his abundant garden, his neat as a pin yard, his generosity of handing out fresh vegetables and offering gardening advice when asked. Dad passed away peacefully on March 15, 2013 at the age of 60 years after a 5 month battle with cancer. Dad grew up in Pense, SK where later he raised his family. Dad was predeceased by his father John. She was born June 7, 1926 at Webb, SK. She received her schooling at Webb, SK and her cosmetology course in Vancouver. Mildred worked at her profession over the next few years in Swift Current, Medicine Hat and Vancouver. On Saturday, April 1, 1950 Mildred married Kenneth Warren Krumm. Over the 40 years of their life together, they farmed and raised three little Krumms Bryan, Wendy, and David. Mildred is survived by her loving children Bryan (Faye) Krumm, Wendy (Jack) Wallace, and David Krumm. She was the proud grandmother of Bryan's three children, Devin, Michael, and Leca and of Wendy's two girls Desiree and Jenee. She is also survived by her dear sister Joyce (Judson) Hallet, niece Lynne (Maurice) Tait and their family. Before moving to Regina in 1955 to begin his career, he operated the family farm for his mother. He worked at Regina Motor Products (RMP) for 46 years until his retirement in 2001. He held various positions at RMP including Service Manager and Customer Satisfaction Manager. He enjoyed his work and approached each day with enthusiasm. Ken completed the General Motors University of Automotive Management program in 1975 and in 1987 earned the General Motors Outstanding Achievement Award, one of 10 presented in Canada, for his endless commitment to customer satisfaction. Above all, Ken was devoted to family and was a pillar of strength for his wife and children. He liked nature and treasured the many summers he spent canoeing, fishing and camping with his family. His hobbies included guitar, video photography, curling and fixing anything that did not work as well as it could. He loved people and made friends anywhere he went. Ken embodied integrity, fairness and patience. Throughout his life, he earned the admiration and respect of those he encountered. His quick wit, compassion and generosity will be sadly missed by family and friends. Emma was a true farmer, working along side Hugh. She was also a superb cook, seamstress and gardener. Emma was active in her community, especially in the U.C.W. She was generous in every way and her home was always open. Although Emma never had the opportunity to physically travel, she traveled the world in books and television documentaries. Her love of reading extended to a wide variety of topics, including romance novels, science, technology and always the National Geographic. Emma loved people and enjoyed conversations with everyone she met. She was a breast cancer survivor, and a true animal lover. She was also a dedicated Blue Jay fan and followed their games closely. Upon retirement, she enjoyed curling, golfing at the Lakeview Par 3 and continued her involvement as an active member of Lakeview United Church. After her husband Donald passed away in 1999, she moved to the Marion Chateau and was one of the original residents. Seven special years were spent there with both new and old friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Lillian; daughter Peggy (Art) Quinney of Courtenay, BC and granddaughters Tricia of Edmonton, and Marla (John) of Chicago; daughter Roberta (Jim) Passmore of Moose Jaw and grandchildren Carla (Lee) of Marquis, Crystal (Lanny) of Moose Jaw and Chad (Tabatha) of Saskatoon; step-grandchildren Michelle of Campbell River, BC and Jamie (Trisha) of Moose Jaw; and eight great grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his parents, Hector and Phoebe McGillivray, sisters Catherine Durrant, Margaret Symes and Florence Roney, and brothers Gordon, Scottie, and Donald McGillivray. Hanna was born September 8, 1920 on a farm west of Pense to Frank and Frances Straub. She grew up on the farm and went to school in Pense. She met her husband at a Pense dance. After her marriage to Bill she moved to a farm south of Grand Coulee where they lived until Bill passed away in 1974. Hanna then moved to Regina where she lived until her passing. Predeceased by her husband William (Bill); her parents; her brothers: Ambrose, Frank, John (Louise) and Joe; her sisters: Kay Astalosch and Mary Reich (Art), and brother-in-law, Frank White. NUTTALL - Eldon Manford (October 7, 1930 - July 7, 2012). It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our much-loved husband, father and grandfather Eldon Manford Nuttall on Saturday July 7, 2012 at the age of 81 years. Eldon is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Hilda, daughter Bonnie (Deryl) Williams of Calgary, son Brent (Barb) Nuttall of Pense and his beloved granddaughters Jessica Nuttall of Pense and Sarah Williams of Calgary. Also surviving are his sister Helen Doege of Lumsden, sisters-in-law Sylvia Nuttall of Pense, Jane McWillie of Airdrie, AB and Marjorie Titley of Spruce Grove, AB as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His parents Herbert and Thelma; and brothers Ronald and Gerald predeceased Eldon. Eldon spent his early years growing up on the family farm and attending school in Pense. As an adult he worked several jobs including farm hand, road construction and Electric Motor Service. In 1959 Eldon bought a bulk fuel and service station business in Pense where he spent the next 34 years hauling fuel, welding, building steel grain bins and repairing anything and everything imaginable. Farming was a large part of Eldon�s life and there was nothing he loved more than working the land. He was always trying to build a better gadget and 16 years ago, he developed a prototype for a seed inoculator. After various attempts, he successfully patented his lentil seed inoculators and enjoyed many years of building them out in the shop with his good friend John. Eldon's life was "work"; he had little time for hobbies but did enjoy curling, ice fishing, playing crib (not always with a full deck!), visiting casinos, and flying his Piper Colt. Eldon enjoyed his two precious granddaughters; Jessica and Sarah and spent many hours playing with them and taking them on tractor rides. In his later years, he did take the time to slow down and enjoy life, although the word "retirement" wasn't to be found in his vocabulary. Eldon's great sense of humour and love of family and friends sustained him and gave him strength through his long seven-month battle with cancer. The family wishes to sincerely thank the caring and compassionate doctors and nurses on the Palliative Care ward at the Pasqua Hospital for the excellent care given to Eldon during his brief stay. NUTTALL - Gerald Robert of Pense passed away on December 30, 2007 at the Lumsden Heritage Home at the age of 73, after a battle with Alzheimer's. Gerald started farming in the late 60's which he dearly loved. His other great passions were hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. Gerald was a real family man. OLTEAN - Dean Constantine, beloved husband of Eleanor of Calgary, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2006 at the age of 87 years. Dean was born on December 24, 1918, on the farm in Markinch, SK district. For many years later he farmed in the Pense, SK district. Upon his retirement, Dean came to Calgary in 1984 where he developed a passion for woodworking and would spend countless hours working at his lathe in his shop. He thrived on accomplishment, always enjoyed travelling and loved entertaining his family and friends. Along with his wife Eleanor, Dean was a long time member of the Icelandic Club in both Regina, SK and Calgary. Besides his loving wife Eleanor, of fifty-eight years, Dean is also survived by his two brothers, George of Windsor, ON and William of Vancouver, BC; his sister Flora Oltean of Nova Scotia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Susanna and Ion Oltean; as well as by four sisters and five brothers. Grant was born on the family farm in the Pense District, the second of three children to Thomas and Mary Ogilvie. He volunteered and was called up for service with the RCAF in February, 1941, and following his training, commissioned as pilot officer. During his service until 1946, he flew around the world including the United Kingdom, Italy, Greece, India, Bermuda, Ceylon, Eritrea, Arabia and Egypt. He was navigator/wireless operator on a variety of aircraft including flying boats and torpedo bombers. He survived a forced landing in the North Atlantic during a violent storm. He flew with the RAF Trans-Atlantic Ferry Command, the 42 Sqdn in India and Assam and the 217 Sqdn in Ceylon until returning to Canada in 1944. Besides flying duties, Grant was armament and gunnery officer and on numerous occasions took over the adjutant's duties. On returning to Canada he was posted to No. 1 CNS at Rivers, Manitoba where he met his future wife RCAF Nursing Sister Patricia Whatley. He returned overseas to ferry mail, troops and equipment, crossing the Atlantic sixteen times. He received the 1939 1945 Star, the Africa Star and Rosette, the Burma Star, the Germany France Star, the Defence Medal, the CVSM and clasp and the War Medal. He later received the Dutch Thank You Canada medal in recognition of the liberation of Holland. In 1946, Grant and Pat purchased land in the Pense District where they farmed and raised their family. In 1973 they acquired a site at Purdy Lake in Northern Saskatchewan. Over the next couple of years, they built a log cabin called Airlie Lodge where they spent many vacations with friends and family. Grant participated in numerous Pense community events and volunteered endless hours to the Legion, Masons, Boy Scouts, the Hunter Safety Course. In 2005 he received the Centennial Medal. Pat passed away in 1990. In 1994 Grant married Ailene Graham and over the next 15 years Ailene and Grant enjoyed travel and each other's families. Grant was predeceased by his first wife, Pat and his sister Marjorie Hind (2002). He is survived by his wife Ailene; a son, Don (Pat Cassell), Pense; a daughter, Barbara (Willie Grieve), Edmonton; his brother, Fraser Ogilvie (Kay), Pense. He is also survived by Grandchildren Traci Tian (Darren Boyer), Regina; Kirk Cassell (Julie), Strasbourg; Kim Cassell (Chad Leippi), Regina; Rob and Sarah Grieve, Edmonton as well as great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. OGILVIE - Thomas Fraser, May 6, 1924 - August 13, 2009. Fraser was born on Section 35 on the original Ogilvie farmstead in the Pense District; the third of three children to Thomas and Mary Ogilvie. Fraser was predeceased by his first wife, Audrey (1971); daughter, Debbie (1970); granddaughter, Wendi Lyn Seaberly (1978); his mother and father, Thomas and Mary Ogilvie; sister, Marjorie Hind; and brother, Grant Ogilvie. Fraser and Audrey farmed and raised a family in the Pense District until Audrey passed away in 1971. A few years later he married Kathleen Meriam and gained five stepdaughters. He continued to farm until his passing. Fraser volunteered countless hours in the community, helping to build the old rink. He was a former member of the school board and telephone board. Throughout his life, he enjoyed activities such as hunting, trapping and fishing. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was always at the rink to watch their games or available to pick them up from practices or school. "Peggy" (nee Small) born April 6, 1920, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2011. Peggy grew up on a mixed farm near Pense, Sask., eldest daughter of Anna and Samuel Arnold. She worked as a telephone operator in Maple Creek and Estevan. Married to Stanley Olshanoski, she made a home with him in Estevan. Along with raising three children (Donald, Patricia and Katherine), she tended her beautiful yard and garden amongst many friends and neighbours. As part of being a devoted grandmother she often babysat grandchildren (Alisa, Scott, Stephen, Lyle and Warren). Peggy was also an accomplished cook and baker, which made her Christmas Eves events to cherish. She was an outstanding seamstress and created projects with needlepoint, knitting and crochet. Peggy's great love of nature and skill as a gardener were passed along to her family. Local songbirds were treated to a birdbath and always-full bird feeders. Kindness to and knowledge of creatures great and small moved her to invite neighbourhood cats indoors on cold winter nights. Peggy lived a long, full life in Estevan, and later became a resident of Hilltop Manor in Weyburn. She was one of the first people to take up residence in the building and lived there until she passed away. Her family thanks the staff at Hilltop for their years of dedicated care. On Sunday, January 25, 2004, Irene Pearce, late of Extendicare/Sunset, Regina passed away at the age of 94. She was predeceased by her husband Walter Bert Pearce in 1958; her daughter Eva Mae Pearce in 1997; her son John Ross Pearce in 2002, as well as her brothers. Irene was born February 16, 1909 in Pense, SK. Much of her young life was spent at the Pense Town Hall, playing piano every Saturday night. At the age of 28 she married Walter Bert Pearce, who was the owner and operator of the Arena Rink in Regina. They lived in an apartment above the Arena Rink for twenty years. Eva and Irene moved from the apartment above the rink to 2132 Argyle Street in Regina, where they lived for over forty years. Irene was a kindhearted, very caring and generous person, enjoying spending time and having fun with her family. She also had a love for dogs. She loved gardening, cooking and baking. Her turkey dinners were the best. Irene was a very active member of St. Mary's Anglican Church for over sixty years. Her life will always be cherished and sadly missed by all who knew her. Her life would not have been as rewarding without the help and caring of her daughter Eva Mae Pearce. Their holidays together gave both of them great pleasure. POULTER - Janet (nee Scott) Waters Poulter passed away peacefully at Pioneers Lodge, Moose Jaw, at 95 years of age, on Sunday, July 20, 2003. Janet was born in Gourdon, Angus, Scotland on November 19, 1907. She is predeceased by her parents, John and Anne Scott and her entire family of 5 brothers and 4 sisters; her first husband, Philip Waters in 1963; her second husband, James Poulter in 1981; and her son, Dennis Waters in 1960. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Ken Jones; and several nieces and nephews in Canada and Scotland. Janet emigrated from Scotland to the Keystown district in 1920 with her family. Janet attended a local country school, was a keen student and an avid reader. She lived a very active married life in Pense, on the farm in Rowletta, and in retirement in Moose jaw. Janet was a tireless worker in her church, in the community, and in several organizations including the Tuxford Orange Lodge, Keeler Grandmothers' Club, and Moose Jaw Newcomer's Club. Janet loved people and was always eager to make a cup of tea for her friends of all ages. Janet lived in Canada for the majority of her life but her heart was in her beloved Scotland. She travelled often to visit her first home and her many Scottish relatives. RANDALL - Alton "Al" William passed away peacefully at Elmview Extendicare on Jan 11, 2008. He was predeceased by his loving wife Helen on Feb 16, 2007 and his parents Vera and Reid. Al was born in Pense SK. On Dec 26, 1919. He moved as a young lad to Regina and attended Innismore elementary school and Balfour Collegiate. Al started his working career with R.H. Williams Dept Store in 1936. The Second World War interrupted his career where he served with the Regina Rifles Signal Corp in Europe from 1942 through 1945. He returned to Canada where he married his fiancee Helen (LaPlante) in Montreal. From there they returned to Regina to begin their life together. Al continued his career at Simpson's Dept Store for the next 34 years as the manager of various departments including house wares, toys and sporting goods. Al was a loving husband and father and greatly cherished his seventeen grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren. Al was a lifetime member of the Victoria Club where he participated in the bowling league for many years. As a young man he enjoyed hunting and fishing, camping and other outdoor activities. Gardening was his life time passion and he was well known for his green thumb. Al retired in 1980 and he and Helen moved to live at Regina Beach, SK. They enjoyed many years as Snowbirds traveling to Yuma, Arizona where they had a winter residence. Al enjoyed Sunday get togethers, playing cards and family barbecues. RENZ - Phyllis (nee Hannant) was born in Pense, Sask. April 14, 1941, along with her twin sister Mary. She grew up with 13 brothers and sisters. She attended school in Pense until grade six when they moved into Regina. She married George Renz in 1959. They moved all over Sask. and Man. while George worked with highway construction. They settled in Khedive on the farm where she took great joy in raising her family. Many evenings were spent visiting with friends and playing cards. She spent her summers with her children at Trossachs Camp where she helped out in the kitchen. She continued this with her grandchildren who all have fond memories of going to camp with Gramma. They resided on the farm until 1996 when they moved to Pangman. She took great joy in taking care of others and not thinking of herself. She proved this in her total care of George as she was by his side during his short battle with cancer in the fall of 1996. After the loss of her lifelong partner and friend in December of 1996 Phyllis directed that caring to her family and the community of Pangman. She built up a network of friends and became very active in the community. Her greatest joy was helping others. Phyllis' positive attitude and good nature was a testimony to everyone around her. As she battled her illness she never let on how bad it was. She passed away quietly January 18, 2000 with her family beside her. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband: George in 1996; son Leonard in 1961; infant granddaughter Courtney in 1988; also by her father Herbert Hannant in 1974; sisters: Jean, Lorraine; brother Allan in infancy; sister-in-law Hannah Hannant; brothers-in-law: Bruce Allen, Jim Renz, Bill Renz, Stewart Renz; Irvin McLaughlin and Gordon Barrett. Pauline passed away on her birthday, January 26, 2015, after a yearlong battle with cancer. Her birthday was an amazing celebration of her life, with many laughs and memories made. RONEY - Irene Ethel (nee Thompson) age 97 years passed away peacefully in her suite in Shaunavon, SK on Wednesday, December 5, 2007. Irene was born December 22, 1909 on a farm north of Pense. She was predeceased by her husband, Tom and her sisters, Mae Riome and Eva Toderan. Irene will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Nellie Bell of Regina, her sons, Gordon (Marilyn) of Swift Current, Glen (Sharon) of Saskatoon, Robert (Constance) of Carrot River and her daughter, Lianne (Murray) Shadbolt of Shaunavon, 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Also many other caring relatives and friends she has made over her long life. SAAL - Edward. On June 27, the Lord called Edward Saal home to join his beloved wife, Martha. Ed was 99 years young. He was also predeceased by his brother, Tony; son Eugene; and grandchildren, Larry Saal and Leanne Kerr. He leaves to celebrate his life son, Gerry, Pense; daughter, Beatrice (Larry) Goschi, Chicago; daughter-in-law, Laura, Regina; and grandchildren Bev (Vic) Chorney, Fort Saskatchewan, AB; Barbara (George) Hildebrandt, Regina; Randy, Guelph, ON; Murray (Charlotte), Pense; Brian (fianc Missy), Mission, BC; and Edward (Mary) Goschi, Chicago; as well as 7 great-children. Ed was born December 8, 1903 in Hungary. His family immigrated to Canada in 1911 and settled at Vibank. Ed came to the Rouleau area from Horizon in 1918 and worked on farms until 1923 when he and his brother started farming together. On February 21, 1928 Ed married the love of his life, Martha McCabe, and he started farming on his own. He farmed primarily at Pense until 1977 when he and Martha retired to Regina, however, he drove the combine at harvest for many more years. Farming was very good to Ed and he loved farming. Ed enjoyed the simple pleasures of life - dancing, baseball, playing cards, and visiting. He spent 38 winters in Texas, the last being 1997/98. He hadn't danced for a few years but he enjoyed watching Toronto Blue Jays baseball, playing cribbage, and visiting until he died. It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of Gerry Saal of Pense, SK at the age of 73 years. Gerry was predeceased by his daughter, Leanne in 1991 and son-in-law, Leonard Kerr in 1990; parents, Edward and Martha Saal; brother, Eugene Saal and nephew Larry Saal. Gerry is survived by his sister, Beatrice (Larry) Goshi of Chicago, Illinois; three sons, Randy of Guelph, ON, Murray (Charlotte, Kristi, Kassidy) of Pense, SK, Brian (Missy) of Mission, BC; grandchildren: Robert, Michelle, Ryan and Meagan Kerr of Regina and Hailey Saal of Mission, BC; nieces, Beverley (Vic) Chorney of Fort Saskatchewan, AB, Barbara (George) Hildebrandt of Regina, Edward (Mary) Boshi of Chicago, Ill. Gerry was born, Gerald Anton Saal, August 16, 1930 on the Brame Farm in the Rouleau, SK area. In 1933, his family moved two miles north of Pense where they lived until they moved to Tregarva in 1941. In 1944, they moved to the Wallace farm at Pense and then purchased the Saal Farm, also in Pense, in 1948. Gerry began his schooling in Tregarva and completed his Grade 12 in Pense. Growing up on a farm set the stage for Gerry's life. His brother, Eugene and he bought land in the Pitman area in 1953 and Gerry later bought the Lusted farm in 1969. Gerry had a passion for all sports, especially hockey and baseball. He played hockey as a young boy and later played Senior Hockey in Pense. He coached and managed boys teams and was appropriately presented with a trophy engraved with "Mr. Saal says". Gerry was also a referee for many years for Pense and surrounding areas. Gerry was very much a community man, coaching hockey and baseball, refereeing, volunteering at the rink and all sporting events. He had a huge heart for all kids. He always made certain every kid had full advantage, whether in need of sports equipment, registration or just encouragement, he always made sure every kid could play. Gerry spent many hours in the rink in the winter and many hours playing, coaching and umpping baseball in the summer. He was secretary of the Qu'Appelle Valley Baseball League for 25 years. He was an avid curler and especially liked those twenty-four hour bonspiels. His love for sports never diminished throughout his entire life. Gerry was also known as a champion dancer, especially dancing to the polka. His presence was frequent at barn dances and cabarets where he swept many ladies around the dance floor. Gerry will be sadly missed by his family and friends and by his community which he loved. We are certain that Gerry touched all of the lives of those who knew him well and any who crossed his journeys in life. SEABERLY - Junior Benjamin passed away peacefully at Providence Place on Thursday August 16, 2007 at the age of 84 years. Born March 31, 1923 in Long Beach, California, Dad was raised in Kankakee, Illinois and at the age of 17 moved to Canada to farm in the Pense and Belle Plaine areas. His love of cooking lead him to open his own drive-through restaurant called "Junior's Chicken Fry " situated along Highway #1. After closing the restaurant he continued to farm and raise hogs until his retirement to Moose Jaw. Junior loved to fish and play cards, and was always full of fun and humour. He is predeceased by his parents Frank and Ethel, and his brother Kenneth. Junior is survived by his children: Frank (Anne), Raymond (Lisa), Susan Waddell, Donna (Doug) Ayres, and DeeDee (Randy) Wilkinson; nine grandchildren, and one greatgrandson; his sister, Betty Ruebensam, and many nieces and nephews. Dad was blessed to have a special care giver, Audra, who spent many hours with him at Providence Place. Thanks to the Providence Place staff for all their care. A private graveside service will be held at Sunset Cemetery. SEABERLY - Kenneth "Ken" Franklin, late of Pense, Sk., passed away peacefully on Friday, December 10, 2004 at the age of 83 years. Predeceased by his parents Franklin and Ethel, Ken is survived by his beloved wife Erma, son Rick (Bonny), daughter Sharon (Peter) Burak, all of Regina; grandchildren Greg, Barry, and Kim Seaberly, all of Pense, Sk., Anita and Mark Burak, both of Regina; daughter-in-law Carol Seaberly of Pense, Sk.; brother Junior of Moose Jaw, Sk. and sister Betty Ruebensam of Las Vegas, Nevada; as well as nieces, nephews, and friends. Ken was born on May 11, 1921 in Long Beach, California. He grew up in Kankakee, Illinois and helped his father on the farm they had acquired near Pense, Sask.. Ken first came to Pense in 1943, but returned home almost immediately to join the United States Army. He was discharged in 1946, came back to Pense and settled down to some serious farming on his father's land. Ken thereafter met his wife Erma at the Trianon Ballroom whereupon they later married and raised their loving family. He was a devoted husband to Erma his entire life. Ken will be forever remembered and loved by all who knew him. SQUIRES - Kelvin Robert George passed away peacefully at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton on July 31, 2008 at the age of 62, with his family by his side. Kelvin was predeceased by his mother Alma and his father George. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Rosalind, who is not saying goodbye to him but only "until we meet again". He is survived by A. J., his loving dog, "best buddy" and companion of 15 years. Kel was born in St. John's, Newfoundland on November 22, 1945. As a young man, he worked on the CN Railroad, and retained a lifelong love of trains. Later he became an accountant, helping and befriending many fisherman and other small businessmen in Newfoundland. He moved to Saskatchewan in 1997, where he worked as a credit specialist for the CIBC. He was an avid outdoorsman and lover of animals, and a longtime supporter of Ducks Unlimited and the Regina Humane Society. His cremation took place in Edmonton and a family memorial was held in nearby Millett. He will be greatly missed. Jeanette graduated from the University of Regina earning a bachelor of Fine Art and Bachelor of Education and subsequently received a diploma in Special Education from Acadia University. She taught pottery for the Department of Continuing Education at the University of Regina and for Continuing Education in the City of Edmonton. She also taught watercolour painting for Continuing Education at Acadia University. Jeanette served as a director of the Acadia Child Development Centre, Acadia University and also as acting director of the Starbrite Nursery School (Waldorf). She was the treasurer of the Alliance of Kings Artists and exhibited her watercolours in the Kings County Region. Jeanette is survived by her husband, Wayne Staples; her daughter, Loral; grandson, Lyam Zacharias; brothers, Maurice (Carolle), Terry (Della), Kenneth (Carol), John (Barbara) and Jim (Rosemarie); sister, Elizabeth Elliott (Brian). SUDOM - Wilbert (Nicolas Joseph) Sudom, 89, of Regina, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan 5, 2008. Predeceased by his parents, Nicholas and Anna; sisters Lena Collins, Esther Bezeau; brothers, Emil and Paul. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Byrdyne, and his children, Grant Sudom of Pilot Butte, Sandra (Bill) Howe of Regina, and Caroll (Joe Hersche) Sudom of Regina, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, sister, Irene Manchee (Glen) of Edmonton; sister-in-laws, Anna Sudom of Regina and Sybil Sudom of Avonlea; as well as his nieces and nephews. Wilbert was born on June 10, 1918 and raised in the Avonlea district. Wilbert was a teacher and like so many others met the love of his life, Byrdyne; at the Trianon Ballroom in Regina. They married in 1945. Wilbert attended the School of Agriculture in Saskatoon and in 1949, Wilbert and Byrdyne purchased a farm near Pense; where they farmed until retirement. His retirement years were spent in Regina. Over his lifetime, Wilbert and Byrdyne vacationed in the sunny south during the cold winter months. They kept in touch with many of the friends they made during their travels, many who were younger, and able to keep up with the active life of Wil and Berdie. Wilbert enjoyed farming, discussing politics, dancing, golfing, swimming, and exercising. Wilbert was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be missed by his family and friends. A celebration of Wilbert's life will be held sometime in the spring in Regina. SWAYN - Doris Elsie (nee Lovell). We are saddened to announce the passing of our Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma and sister, Doris Elsie Swayn, on Wednesday, June 8, 2011. Mom was born on March 25, 1925 in Keystown, Sask, the youngest child of Harry and Elsie Lovell. She lived in Keystown until her marriage to our Dad, George Swayn, on October 15, 1949. Mom and Dad farmed north of Keystown and moved to Pense in 1959. After Dad passed away in 1995, Mom continued to make her home in Pense until ill health made it impossible. She then moved to Extendicare Parkside in Regina where she received the very best of care until her passing. Mom was an avid and knowledgeable gardener, artist, cook and crafter. In her younger years, she curled, and she bowled until a few years ago. She loved to read, play cards and games, and anything that involved being with her family. Doris was always involved in the community. She taught Sunday School and 4-H, attended Bible Study, and was a member of the Pense Artist's Club and the Pense Seniors Club. Mom was predeceased by her husband George; her parents, Harry and Elsie Lovell; four brothers, Alec, Ted, Bob and Jack Lovell and grandson Gary Meggeson. VANDERSTOEL - Simon passed from the loving arms of his family into those of his Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the age of 82. Predeceased by his parents, Simon and Elizabeth Vanderstoel; his daughter, Betty; and brothers, Gerrit and Andries; and sister, Jans van Donk. Simon is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jane; daughters, Marina Katerberg (Rik) and Jo-anne Nelson (Reg); son, Chris (Theresa); grandchildren, Taylor (Claire), Alyssa (Kelyn), Rachel, Haydon, Brianna, Sydney, Chelsea, Serena, Travis and Samantha; and great-granddaughter, Veronica; brothers, Hendrik (Coby) and Piet (Riet); sisters, Griet Ruitenburg, Mar van de Vis, Jaantje Doornenbal, and Anna Vergunst; sister-in-law, Gysje Groenendyk; brothers-in-law, Arie Wesdyk (Clary), Leen Wesdyk (Audrey), Henk Wesdyk (Elsie); nieces, nephews and cousins. Simon was born on October 5, 1930 in Rietveld, the Netherlands. He immigrated to Canada in May of 1953 and worked as a farm hand for Donald and Evelyn McGillivray in the Pense area. The McGillivrays became part of his family. In 1956 Simon and Jane wed, continued to farm, and purchased the McGillivray homestead in 1972. Simon's life was dedicated to God and to his family. His love and guidance were sought after and appreciated. Simon was active in his church and community, and the farm was always a welcome place for family and friends. With very heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved and loving husband, father and grandfather, Charles Rodger Waller. Charles was taken from us in the late afternoon on March 27th, 2008 with no suffering and with no pain. The pain instead belongs to those he leaves behind to love his memory. Charles was born in Moose Jaw to Granville and Nellie (Bell) Waller and was raised on the family farm near Drinkwater, Saskatchewan. He leaves to mourn his beautiful wife of 54 years, Frances, three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Randy Brooks, June and Will Wurtz and Brenda and Guy Lohman as well as his grandchildren Mackenzie, Kyllo and Keaton Brooks and Corey Hein, Trent and Brett Wurtz and Jonathan and Rodger Lohman. He also leaves behind his brothers Gerald (Diane), Kenny (Bev), Dennis (Marilyn) and Danny as well as his sister Gaileen (Ron) Kingdon. Dad worked for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool as a grain buyer for 21 years, but his greatest loves were farming and gardening on his land near Pense where he and Frances raised their family. Pop-Pop loved his family and showed you with a gruff hug and a wave from the porch as you drove out of the yard. He will always be remembered by those who knew and loved him for his daily journals and sound advice to never heat the great outdoors. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2nd at Lee Funeral Home in Regina. WARRINER - Caroline (nee Geres) 1919 - 2011. Carol passed away peacefully with the love of her family surrounding her on Friday, April 1, 2011 at the age of 91 years. Carol, the oldest of 13 children, was raised in Pense, SK. She moved to Regina at an early age where she met and married William Warriner on September 17, 1949. Together they raised four children. All their spare time was spent enjoying their family. Carol was a dedicated wife and mother, and always made sure their summers at the beach were the highlight of the year for the kids. She remained close to all her siblings and in laws and she considered them all to be her best friends. Carol was a 57 year member of the Triple Links Rebekah Lodge #136 and a longtime member and past president of the Ladies Auxilliary, Patriarchs Militant (IOOF). Carol was predeceased by her parents Mike and Mary Geres (nee Wonko); husband William Robert Warriner; sister Eva (Nick dec.); and granddaughter Marla Holdsworth. Carol is survived by sisters: Anne Ward (Allan dec.), Helen Silzer (Rudy), Elizabeth Wonko (August dec.), Mary Giljam (David), Edith Mellis (Garnet), & Elsie Lowe (Ken dec.); brothers: Henry (Carrie dec.), Josef (Anne dec.), Johnny (Olga), George (Helen), Billy (Shirley dec.); children Donna Holdsworth (Dennis) and their children Mark (Rossana) & Michelle (Gilles); Bill (Debra Hartung) and their children William, Catherine (Adam), Bronte, & Justine; Audrey Patl (Petr) and their children Becky (Clint) & Ryan (Candace); & Cathy McFadzean (Tom) and their children Dakota (Laura), Jonah, Cassidy, & Credence; six great grandchildren; numerous nieces & nephews, and a close friend Eileen Tate. WEBB - Raymond, of Eyebrow, passed away in Central Butte on Thursday, April 20, 2006 at the age of 81 years. Ray was born February 9, 1925 in Regina. He started his education at Cottonwood School near Pense continuing in Eyebrow. Ray farmed for many years and was in the business of hauling cattle from all surrounding areas. He enjoyed working with cattle. His hobby was work. Ray loved to dance and was looking forward to dancing once he had his knee replacement. He was always ready to help anyone in any way Ray was a good samaritan. We will all miss his jokes. Predeceased by his parents, Margaret and Alfred Webb, and one sister, Bertha, Ray is survived by his wife, Eileen, son, Dwight (Ruby), one brother, Russ (Flo), one sister, Myrtle; granddaughters: Chelsa (Scott) and Julie (Ryan), great-grandson, Lynden, sister-in-law, Ruth, brother-in-law, Frank, as well as many nieces and nephews. WERNER - Loretta Elizabeth Werner passed away peacefully at Parkside Extendicare on Tuesday, December 30, 2003. She was born in Otter Creek, Iowa on September 15, 1910 to George and Mary Werner. She was predeceased by parents; sisters Irene (Bert) Bruce, Ethel (Percy) Dixon, Gertrude (Stewart) Willett; brother Joe Werner; and brother-in-law Thomas Hind. Loretta will be lovingly remembered by sister Mildred Hind; sister-in-law Evelyn Werner; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. Loretta came to Canada from Iowa, USA, as an infant, with her parents and older sisters and settled in the Pense area. She later received her education in the Pense area and attended Normal School in Regina in 1929 - 1930. Loretta worked at the General Hospital for ten years as she couldn't get a job teaching school. In 1941 Loretta went to Toronto to work in an ammunition factory. After the war she worked at what is now Ryerson Poly Tech University as a cash supervisor. She retired from there in 1975. She returned to Regina in 1991 and made her home in Palliser Place. A private funeral service will take place with Rev. Blair Dixon officiating. Cremation. Interment in Regina Cemetery. Arrangements in care of Speers Funeral Chapel and Crematorium Services. WISE - Dorothy Elizabeth (nee Zahm) passed away peacefully with family by her side at Pasqua Hospital on Thursday, May 5, 2005. She is survived by her loving husband George of 53 years; children Greg (Dea), Daphne (Herb), and Delphine (Brad); grandchildren Michael, Tessa, Tyler, Brayden, Justin, and Alyssa. Dorothy was predeceased by her father Frank when she was only 14 years of age and later on in 1980 by her mother Marjory. Dorothy was born October 13, 1927 on the family farm in the Pense District. The farm was originally purchased by her father who had travelled to Canada from Buffalo, New York. Her mother also travelled a great distance, coming from Arbroth, Scotland with her sister Annie. Dorothy walked to Kennelworth School and attended high school in Belle Plain. She was active in school sports, excelling in track and field. After her father's passing, Dorothy and her mother would spend the winters in Belle Plain returning to the farm every spring. As a young woman she made frequent trips into Regina to visit her closest relatives. Upon finishing school she moved to Regina where she found employment as a keypunch operator with the Department of Public Health, where she met her future husband. Years later, she left her job to become a mother and a homemaker. Dorothy and her husband continued farming upon her mother's retirement. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and travelling. Camping every summer with family later became yearly winter vacations to Hawaii with her husband. Dorothy made many close friendships during her lifetime. She cherished moments with her grandchildren and always had a special place in her heart for her cats. Dorothy will be sadly missed by family and friends. As requested by Dorothy a cremation has taken place with a private family interment to follow. Dorothy will forever rest alongside her parents. WOOD - Grant Robert "Woody" Wood passed away at home in Pense, SK on Tuesday, April 26, 2005. Grant was born March 31, 1956, the youngest child of John and Lois Wood of Woodale Farms, Pense. YOUNG - Lloyd John (November 2, 1929 - November 11, 2010). A Life Well Lived. With heavy hearts and profound sadness, the family of Lloyd John Young announces his passing at the Regina General Hospital on November 11, 2010 after a short, but courageous battle with cancer. Through our tears we take comfort in knowing our beloved husband, father and granddad is making his final road trip to join God, his Loving Father, in a place where all sales calls end in a closed deal, all days are filled with singing and music, and everyone laughs at his jokes. Lloyd is predeceased by his parents Floyd and Ellen (Nellie) Young; brothers-in-law Edward Luschynski, Rudy Luschynski, and Jack Walters; sisters-in-law Bernice Walters and Lydia Young; infant grandchild Michael Anderson; and son-inlaw Barry Roberts. Lloyd leaves to mourn his one true love, Mildred, who was his partner in life, travel, bridge and faith for 57 blessed years; his five children and 15 grandchildren: Tim and Judy Young of Regina and their children Sean, Christopher and Patrick, Cindy and Kevin Anderson of Regina and their children Jordan, Robert (Brittany) and Jessica, Elaine Roberts of Spy Hill and her children, Adam Young and Laura (Ashley Stradeski), Gail and Terry Dodds of Estevan and their children Megan, Erin and Tara, and Valerie and John McWilliams of Moose Jaw and their children Luke, Maria, Katherine and Peter; brothers Bill (Kathleen) Young, Raymond (Sylvia) Young and Allen (Audrey) Young, all of Lumsden. As well, Lloyd leaves behind one Aunt, Merle Johnston, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, associates, and loyal employees. An accomplished storyteller, a master pancake maker, and a man with a song in his heart, Lloyd was born on the family farm, the second son of Floyd and Nellie (nee Sleightholm). The family moved to the Pense district when Lloyd was 12 and he received his early education at Eastleigh and Forest schools. He attended high school in Lumsden and completed a business course in Regina. Lloyd spent many years in the finance business and during his time as General Manager of Crescent Finance in Regina, he met Mildred Laurence who was the Credit Manager at Peoples Credit Jewelers. Always diligent and committed, Lloyd courted Mildred with an intensity usually reserved for tracing delinquent accounts. They were married on August 15, 1953. Lloyd thought he would always be in the credit business but changes to rules and regulations led him to a new role at Crown Life. However, the credit field still beckoned and in 1957 he went to work for Massey Harris Ferguson. This was the beginning of a lifelong commitment to the field of agriculture. In the early 1960s, Lloyd moved the family to Weyburn and was co-owner of Weyburn Farm Supply, the local Massey Ferguson Dealership. He was an active participant in the community as a member of the Kinsmen Club, an executive for the Weyburn Red Wings, and he joined a barbershop quartet. During this time he also purchased his first five quarters of land in partnership with his brother Bill. The Cottonwood Farm was a very important part of Lloyd's life. 1968 brought a move back to Regina, where Lloyd underwent a fundamental change ... in color of machinery. He moved from Massey Ferguson red to Case orange when he and brother Raymond became the Case dealers for Regina. In 1970, they picked up the McKee franchise for Saskatchewan and Manitoba and gave up the Case Dealership in 1971. The seventies were a busy time for Lloyd as he spent a lot of time traveling on sales calls, expanding the farming operation and purchasing part of a ranch in northern Saskatchewan. In 1980, the business was sold and Lloyd sought other challenges for his many talents. He worked with Canadian Western Agribition, Silopress and the Provincial Department of Agriculture. But the farm equipment business was in his blood and in 1988, Young's Equipment Regina was born. Working with his son Tim was one of the true joys in Lloyd's life and, although the sign said Young's Equipment, it would be a safe bet to say Lloyd thought of it as "Young & Son". From the early days of a one location dealership, through many challenges and trials, including a devastating fire in 2000, Lloyd and Tim worked side by side, together with brother Bill and nephew Ron, to build the business into a what it is today, a full-service Case IH dealership with five locations throughout Saskatchewan and listed by Saskatchewan Business magazine as one of Saskatchewan's top 100 companies. Lloyd continued to work until three weeks before his passing, going to the office most days, except when he and Mildred wintered in Arizona. He was deeply dedicated to the business and was a mentor and sounding board for many employees at Young's. Lloyd loved the outdoors. He spent many happy days at the family cottage on Pasqua Lake, where he loved to putter around and was always available to drive the boat if anyone wanted to go skiing. Lloyd was an avid hunter until his sight deteriorated to the point where he had to give up that cherished pastime. As with most things in his life, he accepted this limitation with dignity and grace. But he continued his many fishing trips and was always able to "catch his limit", or so he said. He was dedicated to his family and was an amazing husband, father and granddad. He will be remembered for his ability to recite poems memorized in grade school, and he was known to break into song at any time. He had a song, poem or saying for every occasion and was never at a loss for words. He loved all kinds of board and card games and enjoyed countless games of Kings in the Corner with all his grandchildren. He was the proverbial tough guy with a heart of gold and, with his cowboy hat perched firmly on his head, he strode through life touching all who were fortunate enough to cross his path. The world has lost one of the good ones and he will be missed by all who knew him.
