ALBERTS � Charles Alberts, 83, of Okla, passed away July 17, 2000 in Kelvington. The funeral service was held at the Okla Community Hall and burial in the Okla Community Cemetery. Born on December 26, 1916 on the farm near Corning, SK, he attended school there. He helped on the family farm until the family moved to a homestead north of Okla. He helped out farming and logging in the district and married Esther Enquist on April 9, 1939, at Lintlaw United Church. He purchased a saw mill, did some logging and custom threshing and later drove crawler tractor for Bob Scheller and grader for the RM. In 1965, he and Evelyn sold to the PFRA an moved to their farm east of Okla. He played an active part in his son Mervin's construction business, hauling fuel, driving crawlers and graders and helping to clean up. Predeceased by his parents, Joe in 1969 and Theresa in 1936, his wife Esther in 1987, two brothers, Joseph in 1991 and Johnny in 1978, and two sisters, Emma in 1985 and Tilly in 1969, he is survived by his son, Mervin (Lois) of Okla; a sister, Ada (Pete) Walters of Lintlaw; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren ALBERTS � Esther Evelyn (nee Enquist) Alberts, 64 of Okla, passed away on March 17, 1987 in University Hospital at Saskatoon. Funeral service was held in the Okla Anglican Church and burial in the Okla cemetery. Esther Enquist was born on May 4, 1922 in the Ketchen district on the family homestead to parents Sven and Ida Enquist, who came from Sweden to Canada in 1909. Esther was educated at the Robinson Creek School. She married Charlie Alberts at Lintlaw on April 9, 1939. Predeceased by her parents; five sisters, Mary Lybeck, Hedvig Magda, Selma Alberts, Ruth Blaski and Hazel; she is survived by her husband, Charlie; a son, Mervin (Lois) of Okla; two brothers, Walfred Enquist of Ketchen and Leonard Enquist of Victoria, BC; and two grandchildren. ALBERTS � Joseph League Alberts of Lintlaw, passed away February 25, 1991 at Armstrong, BC. Funeral service held in the United Memorial Church in Lintlaw. Born in 1910 in Oxdrift, ON, he was the son of Antone and Theresa Alberts. He was educated at Windhurst and moved with his parents to the Lodi district, north of Lintlaw in 1931. On Jan. 26, 1931 he married Sally Enquist at Lintlaw. He worked as a homesteader, miner, logger and farmer. He was a member of the United Church. Predeceased by his parents; his wife, Sally; an infant brother, Chuck; two sisters, Tillie Walters and Emma Hanson, he is survived by a son Robert of Ketchen; two daughters, Shirley (Kenny) Ellison of Hazel Dell and Audrey Mulligan (Carmen) of Lintlaw; a sister, Ada Walters of Lintlaw; a brother, Charles of Okla; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. ASHDOWN � Connie (nee Hingley) January 6, 1921 - February 3, 2017. Connie was born on January 6, 1921 on a farm north of Okla, Sask. to Tom and Daisy Hingley. She grew up on that farm with her brothers Tom, Joe and Fred and her Sister Phyllis (Dolly) who were born in the next few years. Things were not easy for farming families in those days and they were no different. There was a lot of hard work to do and everyone had to pitch in to grow the food they would need and take care of farm animals that were a big part of their livelihood. So Connie learned to do just that and she said that was the best education and lesson in life anyone could have, as it worked well for you, all the rest of your life. In 1941 Connie married Howard (Dick) Ashdown and they moved onto their own farm near Okla, Sask. They were blessed with three Children, Constance (Doreen), Eric and Lonnie. After about 20 years on the farm they moved their family to the nearby town of Lintlaw, Sask. when Dick decided that ekeing out a meager living on the farm was not for him and he went out to work for wages instead. In 1969 Dick, Connie and Lonnie moved to Fort Nelson, BC, following Eric and Doreen and they made it their home from that time on. Connie was a master at making do and being innovative in so many ways and she carried that talent with her all through her life. She was a genuine Mrs. Fix-it and could make a dress for someone or put a handle in an axe just as easy. She was well on in years when she tore down her good friend and neighbor Mrs. Hannah's lawn mower in her yard and drilled a new key hole in the shaft and reassembled it for her, sharpened the blade on the times her two boys would pop in together to visit her or help her with something because they always acted crazy and made her laugh. She was a member of the Royal Purple for many years and enjoyed the time she spent with her lady friends there. It was Connie's job most years to make the dress and other attire for the "Money Doll" that was raffled as a fund raiser and she always did a lovely job. Connie had her boys move her from her big house to a smaller seniors apartment at age 91. The boys commented as they were moving her things that they weren't sure what she was going to do for help after they were gone. Connie worked at the Fort Nelson General Hospital for many years and finally retired from there with her gold watch. She made many good friends there and she talked often about them and the good times they had at work. Being 96 years old at her passing, many of these friends have gone on before her and there will be a grand reunion in Glory as we speak. Connie was predeceased by her Husband Howard (Dick) Ashdown, Daughter Doreen, her Mom Daisy (Heath) Hingley, Dad Thomas Hingley, Sister Gwendolyn, Brother Thomas Hingley Junior, Brother Joseph Hingley and her Sister Phyllis (Dolly). Connie leaves to mourn; her son Eric (Linda), son Lonnie (Lorna), her brother Fred, many nieces and nephews, her many Grand Children, Great-Grand Children, Great-Great Grandson Franklin and many more relatives and friends. ASHDOWN � Dale Marcia Ashdown was born October 16, 1947, the daughter of Norman and Ernestine Ashdown of Okla. The baby passed away the following day on October 17th. ASHDOWN � Ernestine Marcia (nee Parkin) Ashdown, 74, of Peace River, AB and formerly of the Okla district, who died on January 8, 1997 at Peace River Hospital, Funeral service was held at the Church of the Messiah in Okla. Born March 29, 1922 on the family farm near Lestock, she moved with her family to the Okla district in the early 1930�s. She attended George�s School near Lestock and completed her education at Okla School. She married Norman Ashdown in Okla on December 18, 1940, and they lived in Prince Albert while he was in the army and then moved to a farm south of Okla, where she resided until moving to Peace River in 1996. Predeceased by her parents, Ernest and Flora Parkin, her husband, Norman, an infant daughter, Dale Marcia, two brothers, Robert and Raymond Parkin, and a sister Betty Erickson, she is survived by four sons, Victor (Michelle) Ashdown, David (Penny) Ashdown, Kelly Ashdown, Timothy (Karen) Ashdown; one brother, Alfred Parkin; four sisters, Jessie Wright, Pat Schrader, Phyllis Essler and Ella Parkin; and nine grandchildren. ASHDOWN � Florence Emily Ashdown, 75, of Preeceville and formerly of Okla, passed away on July 8, 1989. Funeral service held in Okla Community Hall and burial in the Okla Cemetery. Born on February 23, 1914, in the Hazel Dell district to Charles and Beatrice Taylor, she attended Turnout School and then worked for Joe Butler of Okla until her marriage on December 5, 1936 to Herman Forest Ashdown in the Church of England, St. Stephen�s parish at Lintlaw. They then moved to a farm in the Silver Springs district where they resided until the spring of 1974, when they retired and moved to Preeceville. She was a member of the Okla Willing Workers (the Okla women�s group) and an enthusiastic participant in many community projects through the years. Predeceased by her father in 1945 and her mother in 1974, she is survived by her husband, Herman of Preeceville; a son, John (Glenda) of McLean; three daughters, Joyce (Ed) Smith of Yorkton, Ruth Lowe of Drumheller, AB and Lillian (Anthony) Organ of Halifax; two brothers Ted (Katie) Taylor and Alfred Taylor both of Rutland, BC; two sisters, Margaret Cook of Preeceville and Rose (Clifford) Hardwick of Kelowna; 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. ASHDOWN � Hannah Martha (nee La Brash) Ashdown was born November 11, 1881 in Ontario to parents, John and Lucy Ann La Brash. Her siblings were James, Clara, John and Arthur. She married Newman Vine Ashdown on February 16, 1898 in Maple Island, Ontario. Four children were born in Ontario: Bryden, Newman, Zella and Herman. In 1905, they moved to Saskatchewan and settled on a homestead near Asquith, SK Five more children were born here: Hartley, Ellen, Norman, Clarence and Howard. In August 1919 they moved to the Okla district. Three children were born at Okla: Charlie and twins Hazel and Vera. Martha passed away on November 29, 1943. ASHDOWN � Herman Ashdown, 95 of Sylvan Lake, AB and formerly of Okla died on June 5, 2000 at Sylvan Lake Lodge. Services held from Okla Community Hall. Burial was in Okla Community Cemetery. Born Dec. 17, 1904, in Burks Falls, ON, he was educated at Grange and Asquith Schools. He farmed in the Okla district for many years. He married Florence Taylor on December 5, 1936 at St. Stephen�s Church of England in Lintlaw. Predeceased by his parents, Vine and Martha (LaBrash), six brothers, Bryden, John, Hart, Norman, Clarence and Howard; three sisters, Zella, Ellen and Hazel, and a granddaughter, he is survived by a son, John (Glenda) of McLean, SK.; three daughters Joyce (Ed) of Yorkton, Ruth of Raven, AB, and Lillian (Anthony) of Clandonald, AB, a brother Charles of Bonanza, AB, a sister Vera (Roy) Bashforth of Okla; 11 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. ASHDOWN, HOWARD CARL -- September 18, 1917 � August 25, 1997 Funeral service for Howard Carl (Dick) Ashdown, who passed away on Aug. 25, 1997 at the Fort Nelson General Hospital after a lengthy illness, was held at the Elks' Hall in Fort Nelson on Aug. 29, 1997. The service was conducted by Archdeacon Sean Murphy, Anglican minister at Fort Nelson. Eulogist and preacher was Archdeacon David Ashdown of Peace River, Dick's nephew. Howard (Dick) was born on Sept. 18, 1917, on a farm near Asquith, the ninth child in a family of twelve born to Newman Vine and Martha Ashdown. When Dick was a young boy the family moved to a farm south of Okla. He attended Silver Springs School and in October 1941 married Constance Hingley. They farmed South of Okla, Saskatchewan, and raised a family of three children, Eric, Doreen and Lonnie. Dick worked in construction for a few years, on the pipeline for a few years and also for the Sask. Wheat Pool for a time. In 1967 Dick and Connie moved to Fort Nelson to be near their children who had settled there. For awhile Dick worked for the Gas Bulk Plant business and then became head Civilian Guard for the RCMP. Dick enjoyed gardening and was known for his beautiful flowers, green lawns and working skills. Predeceased by his daughter Doreen in 1995. he leaves to mourn his loss, his wife Constance, sons, Eric (Linda) and Lonnie (Lorne), all of Fort Nelson; eight grandchildren, ten great grand children, two brothers, Charles (Doll) of Bonanza and Herman of Innisfail, Alta.; four sisters, Zella Cunningham, Kelvington, Ellen McLay, Stokes Bay, Ont., Hazel (Bill) Goll, Windsor, Ont., and Vera (Roy) Bashforth of Okla, as well as many nieces and nephews, Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Fort St. John Funeral Home. Interment was in the Fort St. John Cemetery. ASHDOWN, Klara October 3, 1911 � October 28, 1997 The passing of Klara Ashdown occurred Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997 at Kelvindell Lodge, Kelvington, Saskatchewan. Klara was born to Klaus and Marie Ruud at Barton, North Dakota on Oct. 3, 1911. The family moved to Canada in 1912 and settled in the Pebec Hill Distict. She attended school at Lodi, Okla and St. Eutrope, and then took a stenographers course in Saskatoon. Unable to find employment as a stenographer, she did housework for various farm families in the area. It was while she was working for the Tom Morrow family at Nut Mountain that she met Hart Ashdown, who was also employed there. They were married in December of 1933 and had one son Kenneth. They farmed south of Okla until ill health made retirement necessary. Klara loved gardening and always had a beautiful yard and garden, taking many prizes for her flowers and vegetables at the local fair. For a number of years she also ran a reflexology business from her home. After leaving the farm, she and Hart lived a while in Lintlaw, Sask. Some time after Harts death Klara took up residence in KelvindelJ Lodge, Kelvington. Klara was predeceased by her parents, husband, a sister and brother-in-law, Anna and Albert Johnson, and brothers, Albert and Thorval Ruud. She is survived by her son Kenneth (Donalda) of Fort Qu'Appe!le; grandsons, Kent (Lori) of Cranbrook, B.C. and Brad (Sheila) of Prince Albert; two great grandsons; sisters-in-law, Mabel Ruud of Preeceville, Kay (Richard) Price of Abernethy, Zella Cunningham of Kelvington, Ellen McLay of Stokes Bay, Ont., Hazel (Bill) Goll of Windsor, Ont. and Vera (Roy) Bashforth of Okla; brothers-in-law, Herman Ashdown at Sylvan Lake Home and Charles (Doll) Ashdown of Bonanza, AB, and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held on Nov. 1 at the Lintlaw United Church with Rev. Sharon Ferguson-Hood officiating. Organist and eulogist was Marion Weinhandl. Sheila Ashdown read a poem that Klara had written. Klara�s niece, Donna Epp, was in charge of the memorial book. Pallbearers were Kent and Brad Ashdown, John Ashdown, Vern Epp, Melvin Johnson and Allan Ruud. Honorary pallbearers were Charlie Ashdown, Roy Bashforth, Harry Ekman, Fred Hingley, Kari Monaughan, Ed Smith and Nils Trobak. Interment was at Lintlaw Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were in care of Nariason's Funeral Chapel and Crematorium. ASHDOWN � Newman Vine Ashdown was born in March 1865 in Minnessing, ON to parents, John Cooper and Margaret Docstrader Ashdown. His siblings were Harriot, Flovie, Margaret, Lucy, John and William. In 1898 he married Martha La Brash. The family moved to Saskatchewan in 1905 and took a homestead. They had a family of twelve children. Newman died on July 1, 1954. BASHFORTH � Glen Edgar George Bashforth, 72 of Hazel Dell, died on August 10, 1994. He was born on February 28, 1922 at O Malley to Beatrice and Percival Bashforth. He received most of his education at Saskatoon. In 1944, he married Rose Hiebert of Saskatoon. He spent most of his life farming in the Okla district. After retiring from farming, he operated a store in Hazel Dell for a number of years and spent his spare time engaged in his hobby of woodworking. Predeceased by his wife, Rose; a son, Richard; his parents; three sisters; and two brothers, he is survived by a son, Robert (Sandra) of Hinton, AB; two daughters, Glenda (Jack) Ashdown of McLeon and Nancy (Peter) Sikora of Okla; three brothers, Roy (Vera) of Okla, Art (Vera) of Saskatoon and George (Mary) Marchand of Outlook; and nine grandchildren. BASHFORTH � Richard Bashforth, 19 of Okla died in a three-car collision six miles northeast of Balgonie in 1974. Mr. Bashforth had been working at Southey and was returning to Okla for the weekend. Richard born in 1954, is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Bashforth of Okla. Funeral services were held from the Anglican Church in Okla. BASHFORTH - Robert Percy Bashforth, died at his home on December 6, 1993. Funeral held at the Okla Hall and interment in the Okla Cemetery. The fourth of seven children of Percy and Beatrice Bashforth, he was born on October 3, 1918 at O'Malley, SK. and educated at Saskatoon. He worked as a farm laborer, then moved with his parents to the Okla district in 1938. His parents retired and moved back to Saskatoon. In 1943, he enlisted in the army and was overseas until the end of the war, when he came back to the Okla district. On Oct. 24, 1957, he married Mabel Richetts at St. Stephen's Anglican Church in Lintlaw. To this union three children were born. Robert farmed with his brother Roy for 10 years, then continued to farm on his own until retirement in 1978. Robert's great love and talent was for woodworking and he enjoyed making special things for his family and relatives. Robert was an outgoing person but alwys made time for his family--fishing and playing hockey with his children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Predeceased by his father in 1976, his mother in 1979, sisters, Lillian in 1968, Vera in 1985 and Ivy in 1992, he is survived by his wife, Mabel; two sons, Daniel (Linda) of Edenwold and James of Okla; one daughter, Linda of Okla; four brothers, George of Outlook, Roy (Vera) of Okla, Glen of Hazel Dell and Arthur (Vera) of Saskatoon and five grandchildren. BASHFORTH - Roy Alfred James Bashforth was born October 16, 1919 in O�Malley, SK and was later educated in Saskatoon. He went on to spend 1941 to 1945 in the Royal Canadian Air Force where he was stationed at Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Tofina and Prince Rupert, BC. He was in the department of works and buildings with the task of repairing hangers throughout the provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan. He also farmed in the Okla district enjoying the hobbies of woodworking, yard work, flower and vegetable gardens. He married Vera Ashdown on March 11, 1942 in Okla. Roy passed away February 5, 1999. Burial was in Okla Cemetery. Predeceased by his parents, Percy and Beatrice Bashforth, three sisters, Lillian Berg, Vera King and Ivy Jensen; three brothers George Marchant, Robert and Glen Bathforth, a son Dwight, and one grandson, he is survived by his wife Vera; seven sons; Wayne, Gary, Gerald, Brian, Dale and Kelly and Bruce of Edmonton; brother Arthur; 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. BASHFORTH - Vera Maude (nee Ricketts) Born: August 17,1925; Okla, SK . Passed away May 22, 2016; Saskatoon, SK. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vera Bashforth at the Palliative Care Unit of St.Paul's Hospital on May 22, 2016 at the age of 90. Vera was born on the family farm located northeast of Okla, SK on August 17,1925 to Leonard and Florrie Ricketts. She attended Turnout School in Okla, SK. District. On March 14, 1946 Vera married Art Bashforth and they made their home in Saskatoon. In addition to raising her children Vera spent many years working as a seamstress. Vera had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening; she took great pride in seeing the thousands of blooms that adorned the yard. During her retirement years she enjoyed golfing, bowling and Sunday morning coffee with family and friends. Vera was predeceased by her parents Leonard and Florrie Ricketts, her brother Herbert and her husband of 58 years, Art. Vera is survived by: her sister Mable; daughter Donna (Wally); son Tim (Leslie); grandchildren: Scott (Cecilia) and Dean; great-grandchildren Jessica, Savahnna, Samantha and Matthew; many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Surgery 5B and Palliative Care Units of St. Paul's hospital for the care and compassion they provided to Vera and her family. BICCUM DWAYNE BICCUM May 22, 1945 - November 2, 2011 Born�Okla, Saskatchewan BICCUM, Dwayne 1945 2011 It is with profound sorrow that the family of Dwayne Biccum announce his peaceful passing on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon after a 10 month battle with cancer. Dwayne is adoringly remembered by his loving and devoted wife Marjorie; his children, Darla (Terry) Oleksyn, Corey (Aleda) Biccum, of Wakaw, SK, and Darren (Kristin) Biccum of Saskatoon, SK. Also the lights of his life, his grandchildren, Jordyn and Kennedy Oleksyn, Sarah and Alyssa Biccum and Brandin Biccum. He is affectionately remembered by his parents, Harold and Lorene Biccum and Marj's parents Harry and Mary Petrowski, all of Preeceville, SK. Dwayne held a special place in the hearts of his siblings, Sherrye (Dennis) Stubbe, Darrell (Barb) Biccum, Randy Biccum and Rick (Sharon) Biccum; sisters-in-law, Carol Gawrelitza and Teresa (Andrew Allsop) Petrowski. Also by the many nieces and nephews that love Uncle Dwayne. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Bill Gawrelitza and niece Melissa Biccum. Dwayne was born on May 22, 1945 in Preeceville, SK. He graduated from Sturgis High School. After finishing school he worked for the TD Bank and MacLeods store in various locations across Saskatchewan and Manitoba. He married Marjorie Petrowski on August 23, 1969. In 1975, they purchased the MacLeods store in Wakaw. In 1987, Dwayne sold the store and bought the Voortman Cookie Franchise for northern Saskatchewan. He did not enjoy beingon the road and away from his family. In January 1991Dwayne and Marjorie decided to purchase The Wakaw Recorder. Dwayne enjoyed his visits with his many friends when he should have been working. Coffee was always on. However, he made many peoples' day by acknowledging and having time for them. Dwayne was an active member of the Wakaw Lions Club since 1976 and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He believed in community and promoted Wakaw by sitting on most boards in this town. He served as Mayor for one term as well. Dwayne taught his family and friends many things such as: h0w to treat people, the value of hard work, to cherish time with each other and to live with faith. If we remember the man, we will grieve, but if we remember the gifts, we shall live in peace. The prayer service will be held at St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church in Wakaw, on Friday, November 4, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church, on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Funeral service held at Church of Messiah at Okla. He was born at Winchester, ON. March 29, 1888 and educated there. He moved to Findlater, SK in 1906. He married Caroline Ross at Regina in 1934 and they moved to a farm in the Okla district and farmed until retiring in 1949 and then took up residence at Okla. In 1963 he moved to Lintlaw until the time of his death. He was a member of th4e United Church. His wife predeceased him in 1953. Survived by a son Harold of Okla; 2 stepdaughters, Hazel Ward of Lintlaw and Jessie Arnie of Ladysmith, BC; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Burial was in the Okla Cemetery. CUNNINGHAM (Ashdown) Zella Lucinda December 15, 1902 � June 9, 1998 Zella Lucinda was born in Burke Falls, Parry Sound District, Ont., on December 15, 1902 to parents Vine and Martha Ashdown. She moved with her parents in 1905 to Asquith, Sask., and in 1919 the family moved to Okla, Sask..Zella married Edward Cunningham on July 31, 1921. They settled on a farm in the Lintlaw District and raised seven children. For the last seven years Zella has resided in the Kelvindell Lodge, Kelvington, Saskatchewan. She was predeceased by her parents, Vine and Martha; husband, Edward; daughter, Vera Ellen; sons: Ivan, Robert, Mervyn, and Orvin; brothers: Newman, Bryden, Clarence, Norman, Hartley, and Howard; sons-in-law: Merrill, Henry, and Frank; and grandchildren: Dianne, Carol, Larry, and Wayne. They resided there until 1992 and then moved to Windsor, ON, where Bill worked as a millright at Chrysler Corp. until his retirement in 1982. Bill and Hazel had a lifelong love affair and were devoted to each other. When Hazel suddenly passed away on August 3, 1998, while visiting family and friends in the Okla district, Bill decided to move to Saskatoon from Windsor to be closer to family. Bill had a wonderful sense of humor and his impish grin and zest for life will be missed by all that knew him. He enjoyed an active lifestyle which included gardening, hunting, fishing and getting in a few rounds on the links as often as he could. HANSON � Cheryl Anne Hanson, after a courageous battle with cancer, lost the fight on October 31, 2007 at the age of 45 years. She was born on December 8, 1961. Cheryl is survive by her companion, Brad Sellsted; parents, Larry and Jean Hanson; sister, Cindy (Rich) Maisonneuve, their children, March and Makenna; a brother Mitchell (Tara) and their son Braydon. At Cheryl�s request there will be no funeral service. HANSON � Emma Rosina Hanson, 63 of Okla, passed away on June 4, 1982. The funeral was held in the Church of Messiah, Okla and burial in Okla Cemetery. Born on April 28, 1919 at Corning, SK., to Joe and Theresa Alberts, she moved with her family north of Okla in 1931. She attended Lodi School. In 1937, she married Elmer Hanson and they farmed two miles north of Okla. Predeceased by her parents; a brother Johnny and a sister, Tilly; she is survived by two sons, Larry and Garry; a daughter, Darlene; one sister Adie; two brothers, Josie and Charley and nine grandchildren. HANSON - Larry Hanson was born October 2, 1938 on a farm north of Ketchen, SK to Emma and Elmer Hanson. Later he moved with the family north of Okla and attended Okla School and Sturgis High School. At age 16, he left for Regina where he got his driver�s license and started work on the pipeline. He also spent time in BC working at sawmills. He then returned to Saskatchewan to work for the Sask. Wheat Pool constructing new elevators. In 1961 he married Jean Ward and they purchased a home in Okla. They acquired some farmland close by where they later kept some cattle. Larry found work closer to home as a Cat operator doing land clearing, etc. In 1970 Larry started as a patrol operator for the RM of Hazel Dell. He liked to keep busy and had several projects. Larry enjoyed welding and along with a good neighbor, they built a sawmill together. Larry had many hobbies such as playing cards and playing pool. Curling was his favorite winter sport along with ice fishing. Summer hobbies consisted of playing horseshoe and going fishing to northern lakes with good friend Carl Peters. He enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors. After 30 years of work on the grader he retired, residing at Okla until August 2008 when diagnosed with cancer. Due to his health Larry and Jean moved to Milestone, SK where they could be closer to family and doctors for treatment. Larry lost his battle to cancer and passed away April 7, 2009 with his family by his side. He was predeceased by his parents Elver and Emma and daughter Cheryl, who passed away of cancer October 2007. Left to cherish his memory are wife Jean; daughter Cindy (Rich) Maisonneuve and their two children, Marek and Makenna; son Mitchell (Tara) and their son Braydon; also sister Darlene Ellison and brother Gary (Roberta) Hanson and their families. Interment was at Okla Cemetery. HEARN � Lionel Hearn, 61 of Okla and formerly of Sturgis, died on November 19, 1982, in the Yorkton Hospital. Funeral service held in the Church of the Messiah at Okla. Born on August 18, 1921 in Sturgis, he received his education at the Corofin School near Hanson. He enlisted in 1942, with the engineers and served over seas in Germany, France, Holland and Belgium. He was wounded in active service and came home in October 1945. As well as farming, he worked on construction for the Pool and for Weber Homes in Yorkton. He was also a Legion member. Predeceased by his father, Richard Edmund in June 1957; his mother, Blanche Florence in Sept. 1949, and a sister, Ione Parkin in August 1968; he is survived by a brother, Don Hearn of Okla and three sisters, Lorene Biccum of Preeceville, Charlotte Siddons of Canora and Ethel Fisher of Yorkton. JOHNSON � Elizabeth M. Johnson, 65 of Okla, passed away on June 10, 1987 at her home. Funeral held at the Anglican Church at Okla. Born on December 1, 1921, near Bangor, Elizabeth Ward was educated at Aston and Lodi Schools. As a child, she moved with her parents to the Okla district, where they farmed. On February 8, 1946, she married George Johnson at her parent�s home, north of Okla. She worked away several jobs including at he Lintlaw Red and White Store. She was a member of the Lintlaw Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Anglican Church Ladies Aid, and she served on the district Farmers Board and was the secretary f or the Lodi School board. Predeceased by her parents, George and Rosie Ward, and three sisters, Lavinia, Ellen and May, she is survived by her husband, George; two sons, Harold of Battleford and Norman of Ketchen; three daughters, Dorothy Rosenkeer of Ketchen, Phyllis Johnson of Okla and Carolyn Welder of Regina; a brother, Fred Ward of Dominion City, MB; two sisters, Daisy Gunson of Cranbrook, BC. and Nancy McCuaig of Calgary; and 14 grandchildren. JOHNSON - George. Born on June 15, 1918, in the Aston district, north of Bangor to parents Margaret and Joseph Johnson. He attended Lewelyn and Lodi schools. He worked on his parents and uncle�s farm before buying his own land, north of Okla. He joined the army in January of 1942 and after training was sent as a reinforcement soldier to the Seventh Heavy Anti-aircraft Battery in Newfoundland. He returned to the Okla area and farmed until retired to Ketchen. He married Elizabeth Ward on February 6, 1946. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Lintlaw and the farmers market organization in Okla. George passed away at the age of 86, on October 12, 2004. Burial was in the Okla Cemetery. Predeceased by his wife, Bessie, his parents, a sister Florence Spray, and three brothers, Tom, Jack and Ernie, he is survived by two sons, Harold (Dianne) of Battleford and Norman of Ketchen; three daughters, Dorthy (Rae) of Preeceville, Phyllis (Len) of Okla and Carolyn (Gary) of Regina; a brother Joe of Regina; two sisters, Rosie Spray of Elora, Ont. And Elsie (Lloyd) Denham of Saskatoon; 16 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. JOHNSON � Joseph Edward "Ted" Johnson, 97, of Okla, died November 4, 1988 in Kelvindell Lodge. Born on December 7, 1890 in Lincolnshire County, England. He began working at the age of 11 for farmers in the district, and eventually worked his way up to head horseman. In 1913, he came to Canada with his younger brother George when they settled in the Bangor area and worked for farmers. He married Margaret Jane Wells on February 9, 1917, in Saltcoats. They farmed in the Bangor district, where five of their children, George, Rose, Tom, Ernie and Florence were born. They homesteaded in the Okla district in 1930. Here, Elsie, Jack and Joe were born. Ted resided there until 1985, when he moved into the Kelvindell Lodge in Kelvington. Predeceased by his wife in 1947, two sons, Tom in 1961 and Jack in 1976, three brothers, George, Jack and Art, and three grandchildren, he is survived by three sons, George, Ernie and Joe (Judy) all of Okla; three daughters, Rose Spray of Elora, ON, Florence (Doug) Spray of Kelvington and Elsie (Lloyd) Denham of Saskatoon; two sisters, Nellie Wells of Abernethy and Dorothy Barnett of England; 45 grandchildren, 85 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Stan was a loving husband to his wife Verna. They met in 1959 and were married in 1962 and have spent 49 years together. He was also an avid lover of the outdoors. He lived for hunting and fishing, and the great outdoors. He loved spending time ice fishing with his grandson Tanner. All who knew Stan will attest to his knowledge, many accomplishments and most of all his strength especially in his last days. Stan will be dearly missed by his family and all his friends. In 1910 he came to Canada with his parents and sister Grace. The family settled at Lanigan, where Joseph attended school until 1914, when the family moved to the Okla district. From 1923 to 1927 he spent some time working in California. In 1927, he homesteaded in the Okla district and farmed there until 1967 when he retired and moved to Preeceville. While farming he served on the RM council of Hazel Dell as councilor and ninteen years as Reeve. He was an inspector for the PFRA for seventeen years. He was on the Preeceville Hospital Board for several years and the Okla Fair Board as long as it was in operation. Joseph married Mabel Wilson in 1929. He passed away in 1970. MARTINSON � Marie A. Martinson, 76 of Okla and formerly of Buchanan, died on October 2, 1981 in the Kelvington Hospital. Funeral service held in the Church of the Messiah Okla. Auslaug Marie Dokken was born at Oiet, Norway on May 10, 1905. She married Ole Anton Martinson on November 21, 1927 and in 1930, with her husband and son, immigrated to Canada and settled in the Buchanan district. In 1950, they moved to the Okla district. Her husband died on June 1, 1974 and on July 9, 1976, she married Robert Parkin of Okla. She was active in the Lutheran Church and held a life membership in the Lutheran women�s organization. She is survived by her husband; her son, Helge of Esterhazy; a daughter Ruth (Rudy) Trohak of Okla; two stepsons and 10 stepdaughters; three sisters and a brother in Norway and five grandchildren. MARTINSON � Ole Anton Martinson was born at Ashmyr, Gjerdrum, Norway, he immigrated to Canada in 1906 and settled near Buchanan. In 1927 he returned to Norway and on November 21 that year married Aslaug Marie Dokken. They settled near Buchanan, where they farmed until 1950 and then moved to a farm in the Okla district. When the retired from farming they took up residence at Okla. Ole passed away on June 1, 1974 in the University Hospital in Saskatoon. Burial was in the Okla Cemetery. Besides his wife his is survived by a daughter, Ruth (Mrs. R. Trobak) of Okla; a son Helge of Esterhazy and five grandchildren. McDONALD � Edith May (nee Pember) McDonald, 99, of Canora, SK, died on May 18, 1988 in Canora Hospital. Funeral held in George�s Anglican Church at Okla. Born on May 11, 1889, at London, England, she was the daughter of Edgar Pember and Mary Regan. They immigrated to Canada in 1902 and settled at Fort Qu�Appelle. After completing her education, she taught schools at Balcarres, Moose Mountain, Pine View and Arcola. In 1912, she married Archie McDonald at Elbow. They moved to Okla in 1920, where they farmed for 42 years. In 1962, they retired and took up residence at Canora. Predeceased by her parents, her husband in 1966, two sons, Donald in 1987 and Archie in 1988, a great-grandson, Jamie McDonald, and two sisters, Alice Coburn and Bessie Knott, she is survived by two sons, Edgar (Pauline) of Saskatoon and William (Lydia) of Regina; four daughters, Margaret Westvelt of Kamsack, Marie (Charles) Bridges of Lintlaw, Alice (Jim) McNichol of Nipawin and Bessie (Bruce) Cowan of Saskatoon; two sisters, Marie Pember of Chilliwack, BC and Edna Gale of Windsor, ON; 24 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. MILLERSHIP � Arthur Millership was born on March 12, 1882 in England. He came to Manitoba with his sisters, May and Cecelia in 1907. Arthur married Minnie Shaltock in 1910. They came to the Okla district and homesteaded. He was also a bricklayer and carpenter. He developed Parkinson�s disease and was unable to work. He died March 10, 1942. PARKIN � Ernest Lambert Parkin, son of Joseph Lee and Anna Matilda Parkin, born on March 29, 1889 in Sheffield Yorkshire England. The family came to Canada in 1904 and took a homestead between the towns of Lestock and Leross, SK. In 1914, Ernest and his brothers, Alfred and George enlisted in the army. Ernest was in the fifth Battalion and saw service at Vimy Ridge, Somme and other points in France. He was wounded by flying shrapnel and spent several months in hospital. While overseas he met and married Flora Ellen Sansom. Two sons were born in England and in 1919 they moved to Canada. In 1929 the family moved to the Okla area and farmed. Ernest and his wife had a family of six girls and three boys. Ernest passed away in March 1960 PARKIN � Ernest Robert Parkin, 66 of Okla, passed away on July 3, 1985 at the Preeceville Hospital. Funeral was held in the Okla Hall and burial in Okla Cemetery. Born on July 24, 1918, in Kimmeridge, Dorset, England, he came to Canada at the age of one and was educated at Lestock and Okla Schools. He farmed from 1946 to 1974 and drove the school bus from 1953 to 1978. At the time of his passing, he was caretaker of the Okla cemetery. He was a member of the Legion and Golden Glory Club at Lintlaw and was on the hamlet of Okla board. He married Ione Hearn on July 23, 1941 at Okla. She predeceased him in 1968 and his second marriage to Marie Martinson took place July 1976 at Regina. PARKIN � Flora Ellen (nee Sansorn) Parkin age 65, passed away at her home near Okla on December 4, 1962. She was born Flora E. Sansorn on January 30, 1897 in Kimmeridge, Dorset, England. She married Ernest L. Parkin in London on December 14, 1916, and they came to Canada in May 1919 and settled on a farm in the Lestock district. In August 1929 the family moved to the Okla district. Mr. Parkin passed away in March 1960. She leaves to mourn her loss, three sons and six daughters: Alfred at home, Patricia Schrader, Ernestine Ashdown all of Okla; Raymond of Preeceville, Phyliss Essler of Vancouver, Ellaline of Regina and Betty Erickson of Longview, AB; 33 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was president of the Ladies Aid of the Anglican Church of the Messiah at Okla. POSPISIL � Cecilia Pospisil, 85 of Preeceville, passed away on November 6, 1990 at the home of her daughter in Regina. Funeral held in the Anglican Church of the Messiah, Okla. Born on November 6, 1905 in Dolni Bojanovice, Czechoslovakia, she was educated there. On March 16, 1930 she married Paul Pospisil in Czechoslovakia. She came to Canada as a bride in April of 1930 to her husband�s farm near Margo. As a pioneer farm wife she raised two families, four stepdaughters and then four children of her own. She operated the Okla Caf� and Store for 18 years, from 1948 to 1966. She was a foster parent to an African child through the Christian Children�s Fund and was active in the Okla church, Ladies Aid and other religious groups. Predeceased by her husband in 1982; two brothers, Peter and Paul and a sister, Katherine, she is survived by a son, Paul of Maberly, ON. three daughters, Florence Ingbrigtson of Preeceville, Steva Studin of Regina and Pauline Ward of Winnipeg; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. POSPISIL � Paul Pospisil was born in Doini Bojanovice, Czechoslovakia on May 18, 1886. He came to Canada in May of 1926. He purchased his first farm and the following year, he went back to Czechoslovakia and returned to Canada with his wife and four daughters: Mary, Rose Katherine and Sophie. Two years later his wife died. He journeyed back to his homeland, where he met and married Cecilie, daughter of Martin and Franciska Komosna. Paul farmed between Lintlaw and Okla for 20 years, from 1926 to 1946. With his second wife they had four children, Florence, Steve, Pauline and Paul Peter. In 1946, Paul sold this farm and moved to a new farm near Okla. In 1949, they purchased a caf� and store in Okla, which they operated for 17 years. Paul passed away February 16, 1972. RICKETTS � Herbert James Ricketts was born March 22, 1922 at the home quarter northeast of Okla. He was the eldest child of Leonard and Florrie Ricketts. He attended school at Turnout, until grade 6, and then he went to work on the family farm. At the age of 35, he attended the U of S in Saskatoon for a 6-week welding course, which greatly aided in the day to day activities on the farm. He never backed down from any mechanical failure on their machinery. Sometimes he would wonder how he was going to repair something but a review of a service manual or a good nights sleep brought new ideas and soon repairs were completed. He enjoyed going to auction sales throughout the district. He loved to buy antique tractors and really enjoyed a challenge to fix an abandoned tractor and it gave him a great sense of pride to see it running once more. Herbert passed away April 15, 2013 at the Kelvington Hospital. He is predeceased by his parents, and survived by two sisters, Vera and Mabel Bashforth; and many nieces, Donna and Linda and nephews, Tim, Daniel and Jim Bathforth RICKETTS � Leonard Ricketts, 85 of Okla, passed away December 15, 1982 in the Kelvington Hospital. Funeral service held in the Okla Community Church. The only child of Hubert and Annie Ricketts, he came to Canada with his parents in 1903 and settled at Ridgeville, MB. Later, they moved to Lanigan and he attended school there. In 1910, they came to Okla district. The family went back to England in 1911, but returned to the Okla district in 1917 and Leonard lived and farmed there ever since. On February 20, 1919, he married Florrie Wilson. Predeceased by his father in 1949; his mother in 1964 and his wife in 1969; his is survived by his son, Herbert of Okla; two daughters, Vera Bashforth of Saskatoon and Mable Bashforth of Okla; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. ROBINSON � Nellie Katherine Robinson was born on October 2, 1924 and passed away peacefully at the Rosedale Hospice in Calgary on May 7, 2011. Her wishes were to be laid to rest at the Okla Cemetery next to her sisters and have her husband Albert�s ashes buried with her. Nellie�s funeral was held on May 13, 2011with Preeceville Funeral Home in care of arrangements. SCHELLER � Herbert Gordon Scheller was born April 29, 1927 to parents Fred and Emma Scheller in Springside. He attended Okla School and worked as a camp cook, mill worker, and motor grader operator. He moved to Jedburgh in 1966 and for a time served as its mayor. He married Laura Tilbert in April 1948, in Preeceville. Herbert passed away February 21, 2000 at the Yorkton Health Center. Interment was in the Okla Cemetery Predeceased by his parents, and five brothers John, Bob, Ernest, Norman and Cecil, he is survived by his wife Laura Of Yorkton; three sons, Wade and Kelly both of Hay River NWT and Kalvin of Jedburgh; four daughters SCHEWCHUK � Gust Schewchuk, 64 of Okla, died at his home after a short illness. The funeral was held at the Church of the Messiah at Okla and burial in the Okla Cemetery. He was born in April 1907 in Romania, the son of George and Anne Schewchuk. He came to the Okla district in 1927. Predeceased by his parents, he is survived by a brother, William of Margo. SCHRADER � Louis was born February 1, 1921 in Yorkton to Ludwig and Julianna Schrader. He was educated at Burke School in Yorkton and St Eutrope and Silver Springs Schools. He married Mary Stacheruk on October 20, 1948 and except for a few winters he worked in bush camps in Ontario. He also farmed. He served on the church vestry and the credit Union board, and helped build the local hall and the curling rink. Louis, 84 passed away April 30, 2005 and is buried in the Okla Cemetery. Predeceased by his parents, his brothers Dan, Rudolph, Alex, William and Chris, he is survived by his wife; two sons, Richard of Okla and Wilfred of Fort St. John, BC, one brother Adloph of Maple Creek and one sister, Tillie Hersekoren of Moose Jaw. SCHRADER Patricia Schrader March 27,1920- December 23, 2014 It is with deep sadness for her death but with gratitude for a long, rich life that the family of Patricia Schrader, age 94, announces her passing surrounded by family on December 23 in St. Paul's Hospital after a brief illness. Born on March 27, 1920 near Leross, SK to Ernest and Flora Ellen Parkin, pioneers from England, Patricia was the first of their children born in Canada. She spent many happy years with her eight siblings. In 1929 the family moved to Okla, SK to farm. A strong and determined woman, Patricia's early years were spent helping on the farm, doing domestic work and socializing at local dances. At a New Year's Eve dance in Okla, she met William Schrader. After a brief courtship they married on January 15,1940 and began married life on a homestead farm. Life was fitted with hard work, visiting with neighbors and raising their five children. Gardening, cooking and contributing to her community were paramount to Patricia. She was a long serving member of the Anglican Church of the Messiah at Okla. After spending 50 years on the farm at Okla, Pat and Bill moved to Yorkton to enjoy an easier life. She was predeceased by Bill in 1993. Patricia remained in Yorkton in Queen Elizabeth Court until 2010 when she moved to Saskatoon. She resided in Columbian Manor, Cedar Gardens and Stensrud Lodge. As her health began to fail, Patricia struggled with losing her independence and ability to walk, cook and visit her children. She was lonely for her husband, parents and siblings who had all predeceased her. She was reunited with them just before Christmas. She was predeceased in 2004 by son-in-law Lawrence German. Patricia is survived by her children: Patricia (David) Roberts, Linda (Guy) Messier, Phyllis (Dale) Boettcher, Ann {Greg) Fortin, Doug (Lai) Schrader; 12 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren; as well as brothers-in-law Norman Wright and Morris Erickson and sister-in-law Mary Schrader and numerous nieces and nephews. He worked as a hoist man for the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company working at Flin Flon and Snow Lake. While he farmed I the Okla area, he worked as a welder at Leon�s and Morris Rod-Weeder in Yorkton. In his later yeas, he was a night watchman at Desrocher Hotel in Hudson Bay. He belonged to the Lintlaw branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and to the Hudson Bay Apostolic Church. He married Charlotte Hearn in Okla on September 24, 1947. Russell aged 82 of Hudson Bay and formerly Okla, passed away on August 3, 2005. Burial was in Okla Cemetery. Predeceased by his parents and three brothers, Wilfred, Bobby and Harry, he is survived by his wife, Charlotte of Canora, a son Jim (Sandy) of Okla, two daughters, Elaine (Patrick) Smythe of Regina and Laurel of Hudson Bay; a sister Eleanor Culbert of Regina; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. SIDDONS � Wilfred Siddons, 72 of Lintlaw, passed away on March 2, 1990 in Lintlaw. Funeral held at the Okla Community Hall and burial in Okla cemetery. Born on March 13, 1917 in Craven, he was educated at Craven. In 1934 the family moved to a farm near Okla. He farmed with his parents and continued to farm after they died. He also worked for other farmers in the area. After retiring from farming he moved into the Hamlet of Okla in 1975. He worked for the R.M of Hazel Dell as a mower operator and was the caretaker of the curling rink for many years. He moved to Lintlaw in 1987. His hobbies included curling, horseshoes, baseball, hockey and playing a fiddle. A brother, Russell (Charlotte) and a sister, Ellen Culbert, survive him. SIKORA � Elsie Emma Sikora was born on November 17, 1925, in the Okla district to Roy and Mary Sikora. She attended Silver Spring and Okla schools. She worked at a peat plant and a potato farm in Richmond BC. She married Frank Sikora at the Roman Catholic Church in Lintlaw on November 14, 1944. Later in life, she was the janitor at Okla School. Else 77 of Preeceville and formerly of Okla passed away Sept. 18, 2003. Burial was in Okla Cemetery. Predeceased by her parents Roy in 1971 and Mary in 1987, and four brothers Frankie in 1930, Elmer in 1992, Paul in 1995 and Raymond in 2002, she is survived by her husband, a son Peter (Nancy) three daughters, Carol Guy of Lintlaw, Dianna Crozier of Yorkton and Margaret Smith of Hazel Dell; a brother, Russell of Surrey, BC; two sisters Nellie Robinson of Climax, SK and Jennie Kokoska of Kendal; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. SIKORA � Frank Joseph Sikora was born on October 4, 1919 in Poland to Valenty and Anna (Gnela) Sikora. He arrived in Canada in 1928 and became a Canadian citizen in 1940. Frank got a Grade 2 education in Poland, but discontinued his schooling in Canada because of a language barrier. On November 14, 1944, he married Elsie Roblin on a farm near Okla, SK and they had 4 children. Frank worked at various jobs, doing carpentry, construction, mechanic work, etc. His hobbies included gardening, growing strawberries, bingo and making twine rugs. Frank passed away on February 19, 2011 at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK. Frank is predeceased by his wife, Elsie (2003); son-in-law, Ron Crozier (2008); brothers, John (1951), George (1991), Joe (1998); sisters, Rosie Byspalko (1993), Hattie Tetelowski (2006). Frank is survived by his son, Peter (Nancy) Sikora; daughters, Carol (Clifford) Guy, Dianna Crozier, Margaret (Robert) Smith; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Katie Prihara, Nellie Kirstuk. STUBBE, Denis, July 18, 1933 � September 10, 2013 Dennis Mervin Stubbe was born on July 18th1933 to Bertha & Ewald Stubbe at Preeceville Hospital.He attended Robinson Creek School. As a young man Dennis farmed with his father and worked away during the winter months in the bush and at the Thompson Nickel Mine. In 1975 he purchased the family farm, South of Preeceville, and married Sherry Biccum, from Okla, Saskatchewan in 1979. They farmed and raised their four children Lorena, Renaye, Denise and Dale. He was known as a terrific story teller and always loved a good joke. Dennis was a loving husband, father, and grandpa and will be greatly missed by his family. TAYLOR � Charles Taylor was born April 2, 1879 in London, England. At an early age he was placed in Dr. Bernardo�s Home, where he stayed until the age of 16 years. He came to Canada to take up farming, apprenticing for a farmer in Ontario for four years. He worked at farming and then in a rubber factory. There he met Beatrice Alice Wilson. They were married on July 25, 1908 and later moved to the Hazel Dell district. His children were Margaret Alice, Charles Edward, Florence Emily, Alfred Taylor and Rose Clara. Charles was a trustee for the school board for many years. He farmed up until the time of his death on January 10, 1945. He was 65 years old. TROHAK � Anton Stephen Trohak, age 49 of Okla, passed away on November 11, 1987 at the Plains Health Centre in Regina. Funeral held at the Okla Community Hall and burial in Okla cemetery. He was born at Cana, SK in 1938 and educated at Arran and at Silver Springs and came to the Okla area in the 1950�s. He married Donna Ashdown at Lintlaw in 1966. He was an equipment operator in the earlier part of his life and later took up farming. Predeceased by his parents, Mike and Mary; two brothers, Alador and Adolph and three sisters, Melania, Amelia and Barbara, he is survived by his wife, Donna; three daughter, Leanna, Roxanne and Kimberly; three brothers, Joe, Rudy and Jim of Okla; and three sisters, Mary Harris of Endeavour, Agatha Thompson of Regina and Rose Trohak of BC. TROHAK � Jim (February 6, 1927 � December 2, 2011) Jim was born on February 6, 1927 on the farm near Cana, Saskatchewan to Mike Trohak and Maria Trohak (Kulscar). Jim was one of six boys in a family of thirteen children. When Jim was twelve his family left the Cana area and moved to the Hazel Dell/Okla area and settled on the quarter section where Jim continued to live until shortly before his death. Jim always said his family found the new bush-covered area quite different than the wide open prairies they had left behind. There were deer to hunt, rabbits to snare as well as many other new things to explore. Jim attended Silver Springs School until he was in grade 8, when he left school and went out to work with his brothers for a farmer near Margo. Jim often had stories to tell of the pranks he and his friends would play on new, unsuspecting teachers. Jim and all of his brothers settled on farms south of Okla where they continued to farm until each of their passing. Not only did Jim farm, he worked at numerous jobs throughout his life. He spent many years working in the bush and in construction. He worked at Reserve in the early years. He also worked for Abe Raymond, a cattle buyer. Jim and his brother Anton spent years working for George Johnson of Pelly driving cat and doing bush and road work. Jim also spent time working for Sigfordsons freighting in Ontario around the Red Lake and Trout Lake areas. Jim spent time working on the Mackenzie Highway in the Northwest Territories. Jim was a hard worker and always believed in doing the best job possible no matter the task. He passed on his work ethics to all three of his children. Jim enjoyed all kinds of outdoor activities. In his younger years he enjoyed playing baseball at school, with his brothers, and later with his children. Jim�s real passions were hunting and fishing. He spent much of his free time hunting, first with his brothers and later with his son, Randy. Jim was also an avid fisherman. He and his brothers: Rudy, Anton, and Joe could be found ice fishing around Margo whenever the opportunity presented itself. Time spent fishing with family and good friends made Jim happy. When they were old enough, Jim�s children joined in the fishing adventures. As with most fishermen, the more they fished together, the more the stories grew. During the past few years Jim�s greatest source of joy was fishing with his grandchildren: Cody and Tyler. The summer fishing trips were filled with bets for the biggest and first fish, and who was going to get �skunked�! Jim loved the time spent fishing with �his boys�. It was always the highlight of the summers. On February 20, 1965, Jim married Dolly Stein at Lintlaw, Saskatchewan. After spending the first winter of their marriage living in Hazel Dell, Jim and Dolly moved to the farm south of Okla where they ran a small mixed farm. They had three children: Sandra (Keith), Randy (Dawn), and Jackie. Jim raised his children and instilled in them old fashioned values and work ethics. Jim continued farming until around 2005 then he retired and spent his days enjoying the outdoors, gardening, playing with the horses, and having coffee with his neighbours. He liked to go for drives with his little dog, Pogo, and look for wildlife in the evenings. Jim enjoyed his gardening and often entered his vegetables in the local fairs. He eagerly looked forward to seeing his winning entries every year. Competition could be fierce! When it was too cold or too wet to go out, Jim was an avid reader. He loved a good story. Jim was predeceased by his parents: Mike and Mary Trohak, brothers, Alador, Adolph, Anton, Rudy and Joe, sisters Mary, Rose, Molly, Emily, Barbara, and Rose. Jim is survived by his wife, Dolly, daughters Sandra (Keith) and Jackie, son Randy (Dawn) two grandsons, Cody, and Tyler and his sister Agatha Thompson. WARD � Frank Ward, 81, of Kelvington, died on April 3, 1988 in the Kelvington Hospital. Funeral service held in the Okla community hall. He was born on September 12, 1906 to Charles and Elizabeth Ward in Nottingham England. In 1918, he came with his family to Canada to settle at Craven, SK. He completed his schooling at Craven and then worked on various farms until he purchased land of his own. On November 5, 1932, he married Hazel Ross at Silton, SK. Due to the drought in the thirties, they moved to a farm in the Okla area. In 1947, they moved to Chemainus, BC where he worked in a sawmill. The following year, they returned to farm at Okla, until they retired to Lintlaw in 1964. In 1975, they moved to Kelvington. He was interested in community activities, loved to curl, and was active with the senior citizens groups in the surrounding area. Predeceased by a sister, Hilda and two brothers, Charles and Oliver, he is survived by his wife, Hazel, who resides in Kelvindell Lodge; a daughter, Jean (Larry) Hanson of Okla; two sons, James (Wilma) of Estevan and Arthur (Jeannette) Ward of Kindersley; a brother, Leslie (Laura) Ward of Victoria, BC; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. WARD � Fredrick George Ward of Okla, age 87, died on April 12, 1975 in Preeceville Hospital. Born at Halstead, England in 1887 he came to Canada in 1910 to Saltcoats area where he settled on a farm. In 1912 he married Rosie Wells and they continued to farm at Saltcoats until 1934 when he came to Okla and took up a homestead. In 1936 he moved his family to the farm at Okla. He continued farming there until retiring about 1962, when he went to live in his own house on the farm of his son in law George Johnson. Predeceased by his wife in 1950 and a daughter Lavinia (Mrs. George Johnson) in 1949, he is survived by five daughters, Ellen Waterhouse and May Callin of Saltcoats, Elizabeth Johnson of Okla, Daisy (Ted) Gunson of Cranbrook, BC and Nancy (Russ) McCuaig of Sarnia, ON; a son, Fred of Emerson, MB and 32 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. WARD � Hazel Ward, 78, of Kelvington and formerly of Okla, passed away January 9, 1991. She was born on April 26, 1912 at Balgonie. She married Frank Ward on November 5, 1932 at Craven. They farmed there until they moved to the Okla district. Here they continued to farm and serve as caretakers of the Okla Hall and the Okla School. She was a member of the Okla Willing Workers Club, during the 40�s and 50�s and a member of the United Church. They retired and moved to Lintlaw in 1963 and then to Kelvington in 1976. She entered Kelvindell Lodge in May of 1983 and resided there until her death. Predeceased by her parents and her husband Frank, she is survived by a daughter, Jean (Larry) Hansen of Okla; two sons, Jim (Wilma) of Estevan an Art (Jeanette) of Kindersley; a sister WARD � Rosie M. Ward (nee Wells) was born in 1891in England. She immigrated to Canada with family members in 1900. She married George Ward in 1912 at Saltcoats. They farmed near Saltcoats until 1934 when they purchased land near Okla. While her husband got the new homestead ready, Rosie and her daughters carried on the farm work at Saltcoats. In the summer of 1936 the whole family moved to their new farm. Her children were Ellen, Lavinia, Fred, May, Bessie, Daisy and Nancy. Rosie�s health was poor, having worked hard all her life. She passed away in 1950 WILSON � Eva Josephine Ester Wilson was born Sept. 13, 1873 in Ontario to parents, John and Margaret (Dogstardes) Ashdown. She married Milton Wilson on March 23, 1897 in Parry Sound, Ontario. In 1904 the family moved to Lyleton, MB and the following year to Heward, SK, where a homestead was secured. In 1919 they moved to the Okla area. Their children were Newborn, Ella Emily, Mabel, Emily, Stanley, Sugand, Alice and Lenord. Eva passed away in 1948. At the age of 16, he graduated from High school and began his education and life career at the University of Saskatchewan. In 1961 he graduated with his Masters in Mechanical Engineering, becoming a Tenured Professor at the University of Saskatchewan. He married the love of his life Kristine Wilson in August of 1962. In 1965 he obtained his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, Ohio. Jim was an active member of the community. He was a fourth degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus at St. Philip Neri Parish. Many people knew Jim as the "go to " guy: He was an anchor in the family and in the community, always making himself available to fix something or to provide knowledgeable insight. Closest to his heart were his "girls " and grandchildren. "Grandpa " spent many hours in his woodworking shop, turning on the lathe, and constructing numerous items for every household. Hence, the most common phrase, "Hey, I think I could make that out of wood ". Farming was the second love of his life and he continued farming up until the end of his life. A Prayer Service will be held on Monday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Philip Neri Roman Catholic Church. A Celebration of Jim's life will be held Tuesday, June 7 at 10:00 a.m. at the church. The family moved to Lyleton, MB for the harvest season and in the spring of 1905 they moved to Heward, SK, where Milton applied for a homestead. In 1919 they moved to a farm in the Okla area. Milton passed away March 7, 1950. WILSON � Newbern Henry Wilson, 79 of Preeceville, died on June 3, 1978. Funeral was held in the Church of the Messiah at Okla. Born at Birks Falls, ON. on January 26, 1899, to Milton and Eva Wilson, he moved with his family to the Creelman district in 1904. In 1918, he moved to the Okla district where he homesteaded in 1922 and farmed there until moving to Preeceville in 1976. He married Norella Steffenson in 1936. During the 1930�s and 40�s, he operated a sawmill and planer. He served on the municipal council and was a member of the Orange Lodge. Predeceased by a brother Leonard and a sister Alice, he is survived by his wife; a son, Jim of Saskatoon; a daughter Jeanette Feeley of Preeceville; a brother, John of Champion, AB; three sisters, Mabel Marshall and Emily Tilbut of Preeceville and Ella Morrow of Nut Mountain, and seven grandchildren. WILSON - Norella Orina (nee Steffenson) Wilson, 86 of Preeceville, died on May 25, 1996 in Preeceville Hospital. Funeral held in the Okla Community Hall. Born on December 25, 1909 in Elbow, she was educated at Elbow, as well as Leonard, Minn. and Valley City ND and also at Margo, SK. She attended Regina Normal School and taught school at Silver Springs in the Okla district from 1933 to 1936. On October 25, 1936, she married Newbern Henry Wilson at the Lutheran Church at Preeceville. She was a member of the Willing Workers Women's Guild of Okla and secretary of the Okla Agricultural fair from 1947 to 1950. Predeceased by her husband; her parents, Nora and Olai Steffenson; three brothers, Durwald, Vernon and Douglas, she is survived by a son Jams (Kris) of Saskatoon; a daughter, Jeanette Feeley of Preeceville; a brother, Stanley (Beatrice) of Archerwill; seven sisters, Helen Hansen of Saskatoon, Hazel Lubbers of Edmonton, Vivian Hunter of Wadena, Bernice (Ernest) Anderson of Saskatoon, Blanche (Clifford) Thuen of Archerwill, Frances Ramstead of Naicam and Clarice (Joe) Makarow of Lajord; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
