ADAM - Carey (nee Bilawchuk). The peaceful death of Mrs. Carey Adam, 54 years, of Lanigan, SK occurred on Saturday, February 26, 2005. She passed away with her family at her side following a long battle with breast cancer. Carey was born on October 30, 1950 in Kelvington to Mike and Anne (nee Chaykowski) Bilawchuk. Carey will be forever loved and sadly missed by her husband of 35 years, Jim Adam of Lanigan; two daughters and one grandson: Wendy Johnston (Kim Schumann) and her son, Todd Johnston of Regina; Crystal (Curtis) Riou of Lloydminster, AB; mother, Anne Bilawchuk of Regina; one sister and two brothers: Clarence (Dorothy) Bilawchuk of Regina; Cathy (Larry) Schlamp of Langdon, AB; Bob (Cheryl) Bilawchuk of Lanigan; and by numerous nieces, nephews and members of the Adam family: Carey was predeceased by her daughter, Hali and her father, Mike Bilawchuk. A United Church Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday March 2, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lanigan, presided by Carol Hiscock. A private family interment will follow at the Lanigan Cemetery. AKKERMANS - Adriana (nee Loos). The death of Mrs. Adriana Akkermans, of Lanigan, occurred at Lanigan Hospital on Sunday, November 15, 2009. She was 78 years of age. Adriana will be lovingly remembered by her three children and three grandchildren: Mary-Anne Akkermans of Al Ain, U.A.E.; John (Margo) Akkermans of Hanna, AB, and family, Jennifer Akkermans (Brad Hutchinson), and Scott Akkermans; and Dianne Morgan of St. Albert, AB, and daughter Mackenzie; two sisters and three brothers: Mien (Jac) Govers, Kees (Toni) Loos, Toon (Nell) Loos, Adri (Toos) Loos, and Diny (Geert) Huysmans, all of Holland; brother-in-law, Kees Oostvogels; in-laws of the Akkermans family: To Akkermans, and Nell (Louis) Van de Eynden; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Cornelius Akkermans; son-in-law, Mervyn Morgan; parents, Jacobus and Anna (nee Bartels) Loos; two sisters: Tonia Oostvogels and To (Cor) Bals; and by brother-in-law, Adri Akkermans. The Prayer Service for Adriana will be held on Friday, November 20, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, November 21, 2009, at 2:00 p.m., celebrated by Fr. Paul Paproski, OSB. Both services will be held at St. Mary's R.C. Church, Lanigan. Interment will follow at St. Mary's R.C. Cemetery. AMES - Anne (nee Kobzey) Skorlatowski Padjan Ames. The sudden and unexpected death of Anne Ames, 84 years of Lanigan occurred on Monday, March 24, 2014. Anne, commonly known as Mom, Grandma and Auntie Annie, was born on June 22, 1929 to John and Verna Kobzey in Guernsey, SK. She was one of fifteen children. She met and married Michael Skorlatowski, a local boy, on February 27, 1945. They lived and farmed around Burr, SK. for a short time then moved to Attica, SK. During their time in Burr they were "lucky", as Anne said, to have had the opportunity to adopt a son Andrew. Luck hit again in 1956 when Mike and Anne adopted their daughter Darlene. Shortly after the adoptions, due to Mike�s health, they moved to Humboldt, SK. but Mike longed for the farm life so they packed their bags and moved to Birch Hills SK. where they bought a farm. They didn�t live there long when Mike succumbed to his death in 1963. Anne then moved herself and her children to Lanigan where she found work cleaning for Mr. and Mrs. Coen at the drug store and then at the Old Lanigan Hospital. Finally finishing her working career at the Lagana Hotel as a waitress, a chambermaid and then finally in the kitchen where she felt at home. Anne married Albert Podjan in 1971 and they were married for 17 years until Albert�s death in 1988. Anne then decided that this would be a good time to get her driver�s license. Anne lived a relatively quiet life until she was introduced to Ken Ames by a long time friend, Maxine Pickering. Anne and Ken exchanged vows on Nov 19, 1998. Ken introduced Anne to camping and this gave her a fresh new outlook on life. They spent many days with their truck and trailer travelling around Saskatchewan and even venturing into Alberta. Everyone that knew Anne understood how much she loved gardening or tending to her flowers. She loved the outdoors, but more than anything else, she loved her family, especially her grand children and great grandchildren. Anyone that visited Anne would be offered something to eat and drink before they ever sat down. Food and beverage generally appeared BEFORE you had a chance to answer. She was a great cook and baker. Anytime there was a function in town Anne would be one of the first to volunteer to bring some sort of baking or casserole dish. She was a wonderful, loving and sincere lady. Anyone that crossed paths with her would forever remember her. If she were here today Anne would look at all of you and smile�and then thank you all for being her friend. She will be greatly missed by all. Anne is survived by her son Andrew (Helen) Skorlatowski and their family Michael (Serra) Skorlatowski, and Michelle Skorlatowski, all of Saskatoon, SK and Tearsa (Mark) Chang of Warman, SK; her daughter Darlene Willis (Barry) of Okotoks, AB and their family Shannon (Wayne) Wood of Lacombe, AB and Ross Arnfinson of Calgary, AB; her beautiful great granddaughters Clair and Maleya Skorlatowski, Paighton Arnfinson and great grandson Kade Wood; her brothers Mike (Marion) Kobzey of Saskatoon, Nick (Lil) Kobzey of Mundare, AB and Steve Kobzey of Edmonton, AB; her sisters Mary Bay of Vegerville, AB, Rose Barr of Edmonton, AB and Olga Kristensen of Spruce Grove, AB. She loves you all very much. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law Joseph (Julia) Skorlatowski and John (Hope) Skorlatowski, all of Lanigan, SK; sisters-in-law Anne Gerylo of East Selkirk, MB and Jenny Prebushoski of Birsey, SK; numerous nieces and nephews and many, many friends. Anne is preceded in death by her husbands Michael Skorlatowski of 18 years, Albert Podjan of 17 years and Ken Ames of 15 years. She is also predeceased by her parents John and Verna Kobzey, her sisters Mary at the age of 5 and Pauline at the tender age of 3 months and sisters Margaret, Lily and Katie; and brothers Bill, Harry and Peter�May you all rest in peace. Interment followed in St. Mary�s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Lanigan. ARLT - Elizabeth (nee Laufer). On Friday, April 24, 2009, Betty Arlt, late of Regina and formerly of Lanigan, passed away at the age of 87 years. Predeceased by her parents Henry and Katie Laufer; husband Harold; brother Henry Laufer; two granddaughters, Anita Malbeuf and ChristieLin Arlt; Betty is survived by her children: daughter Marilyn (Eric) Nurse and their children: Barbara (Brian) Grahn (Kelsey, Kayley and Jennifer) and Byron (Lisa) Nurse (Braedyn) all of Edmonton, daughter Carolyn Malbeuf and her children: Elvis (Lisa) Malbeuf (McKenzie and Savannah) and Roberta Malbeuf (Jasmine) all of Regina, son Keith Arlt and his children: Jennifer (Landry) Veitch (Makenize and Ireland), April (Ryan Dalnea) Arlt (Kianna), Katelyn, Vernon Longman, and Joshua all of Saskatoon, and son Randal (Colleen) Arlt and their children: Colin and Brittany, all of Regina, brother Carl Laufer of Chilliwack; as well as nieces and nephews. Betty was born on November 17, 1921 in Budapest, Hungary. She grew up in Regina where she met and married Harold, a farmer from Jansen SK. They eventually moved to Lanigan in 1964, where they owned and operated the Robinson Store until her retirement where she was able to pursue her love and interest in gardening. Betty was always active in her church. Following the death of Harold in 2006, Betty moved back to Regina. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1909 Ottawa Street, Regina SK with Pastor Lindsay Hognestad officiating. A viewing for family and friends will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2009 from 12:00 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lanigan, SK, followed by interment at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Lanigan. BACIK - Joseph. It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dad, grandpa and great grandpa on March 17, 2005 at the age of 87 years. Dad was born and raised in Quill Lake, SK. In 1946 Dad met Nora, that same year they married and started their large family. For the last 22 years, Dad resided in Lanigan, SK. The last few months of his life he was in Saskatoon during his battle with kidney failure. During this time he was surrounded by his entire family until his passing. Dad was predeceased by two brothers; two sisters; one daughter, Connie in 1957; and one son, Richard in 1994. Predeceased by his parents, Paul and Elizabeth. Dad is survived by his wife, Nora; daughters, Beverly (John), Elizabeth (Lyle), Judy (Cecil), Connie (Mervin); sons, Russ, Joe (Rhonda), Paul (Marlene); 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Dad will be remembered as a very outspoken man with a warm sense of humour, love of family, hard working mechanic in his working days, the best Dad, grandpa and great grandpa in the world. Dad enjoyed cooking his special meals, he also took pride in his gardening and canning of beets and pickles. Dad's life occupation was being a great mechanic. He became employed with Tommy Morton in Quill Lake for many years. There he was known for fixing many tractor tires and motors. Whenever anything mechanical needed fixing Dad was the man to call. Dad was a member of the Armed Forces for 11 months in Regina, SK. Dad will be sadly missed and forever in our hearts. We would like to send special thanks to the staff at St. Paul's Hospital and Porteous Lodge (Villa) for all the care, support and attention to Dad. BARCLAY - William (Bill) Charles Barclay of Coleville passed away quietly on Monday, February 11, 2002, in the Kindersley hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Bill was born on April 27th, 19334, in Lanigan, SK, the third child and only son of William H. and Henrietta Barclay. He was raised in Lanigan and spent many hours playing hockey and baseball -- both sports he loved for the remainder of his lifetime. In l952, Bill purchased a truck and began working in the oilfields of Saskatchewan. He and a friend, Herb Shea purchased the WA Dand Trucking company from then owner Bill Dand, which they formed into Alsask Heavy Haulers Ltd. In later years, Bill bought out Herb and formed the present company Sam's General Trucking Ltd., of which he was president and CEO until the time of his death. Bill will be fondly remembered by the many men and women who worked for him over the 50 years that he ran his company, as a fair and compassionate employer. In 1957, Bill married Evelyn Hackney and together they had six children, whom they raised in Coleville. Bill was very active in the local minor sports as the children were growing up. He coached many a hockey team to league and provincial finals. Bill loved to tell you how much talent you had and he was passionate in developing each person's talent as best he could. He followed his son's hockey dreams all over the province and often accompanied his grandsons to their games in these last few months. We will all remember his many little colloquialisms to get the point across as to what you did well and to make the equal point as to what you did poorly during the last game. In later years, after his children were grown and gone, Bill led a very active involvement in the Royal Canadian Legion. Starting at the branch level, he held many executive positions. His passion and commitment grew and he ran for office successfully at the Zone, District, Provincial and National levels. Bill was the Saskatchewan Command President from 1993-1995. Bill also held positions on Dominion Command and at the time of his death he was Dominion President having been elected to that position in Halifax, NS, in June of 2000. He was made a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion on February 16th, 1999, and was awarded the Gold Leaf on November 4th, 2000. Bill's passion for the ideals held by the Royal Canadian Legion helped to make the lives of Canadian veterans and their families better as he advocated actively with Canadian Government to honor all Canadian War Veterans both living and deceased. The crowning glory for Dad was to be healthy enough on Remembrance Day November 11th , 2001, to be able to give the salute to the Governor General of Canada in honor of all Legion members. It was a moment he cherished throughout his illness. Bill was predeceased by his parents William and Henrietta Barclay, a young sister - Joyce, and his son William (Billy) and an infant son Duncan. Bill is survived by his wonderful companion of eleven years, Kathleen Phillips of Coleville; one sister, Shirley (Andres) Anderson of Saskatoon; sons: David (Marian) of Swift Current, their children Leigh-Anne and Kerry, Rick (Shannon) of Coleville, their children Brennan, Josh and Caty; daughters: Janice Barclay-High (Desmond High) of Fort McMurray, their daughter Brandi Barclay of Fort McMurray, Audrey (Darcy) Weber of Coleville, their children Jordan, Alyssa and Mya. Also numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members. A funeral service was held Friday, February 15th, 2002, at the Coleville Community Hall with Joan Tessier officiating. Bill's eldest son David Barclay gave the eulogy. Kind words of remembrance were given by Joe Kobalak, RCL Dominion Past President; the Honorable Ray Pahpakhna, Minister of Veteran Affairs for the Government of Canada; and Elmer Noble, RCL Saskatchewan Command President. The organist was Shelley Roberts accompanied by a choir of local people. Piper was Don MacDonald of Saskatoon, who played the hymn "Amazing Grace". The Royal Canadian Legion funeral ritual was led by Saskatchewan Command Past President Pat Varga, with Sgt. At Arms Lloyd (Sparky) Ament leading the 300 plus Legion Honor Guard. Bugler was Colleen Swan of Kindersley. BARRON - Marjorie (nee McIntyre) Barron, 61 years of Lanigan, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly while in Moose Jaw to watch curling, on Monday, November 26, 2012. Marjorie was born July 21, 1951 in London, ON to Lloyd and Doris (nee Greenham) McIntyre. She spent her first four years in London, then ten years in Thamesford and from there moved to Brantford, ON. Marjorie was married to Richard Toby Barron and had three children. They spent the early part of their marriage in Brantford and Thompson, MB. In 1977, they moved to Drake and then eventually to Lanigan, SK. Over the years, Marjorie spent lots of time at her favourite place, her cabin at Maple Grove Christian Retreat Centre in Thamesford, ON. Her parents had been founding members and she had enjoyed many childhood summers there. Marjorie loved to curl and spend time at the arena, either with her kids or with the ladies in the kitchen. Her love of curling remained long after she stopped curling herself. Marjorie enjoyed the Scotties one year in Kitchner, ON and watched every possible televised event! In recent years, Marjoire returned to Lanigan and was able to rekindle old friendships and start many new friendships among her church community. Marjorie will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Richard; daughter, Heidi (David); sons, Geoffrey (Michelle) and James; and many beautiful grandchildren, all of who gave her incredible joy. She is also survived by her brother, Allan (Eleanor); sister, Nancy (David); brother-in-law, David; and numerous nieces and nephews. Marjorie was predeceased by her parents, Lloyd and Doris McIntyre; brother, Ronald and sister, Louise. Marjorie was a kind, giving and beautiful lady. She was greatly loved and will be sadly missed. The death of Mrs. Alice "Elaine " Bell, 87 years, of Lanigan, occurred at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Humboldt on Monday, July 4, 2005. BERNAUER - Agnes. The death of Mrs. Agnes Bernadine (nee Freriks) Bernauer, of Lanigan, occurred at Saskatoon City Hospital, Saskatoon, on Saturday, August 4, 2007. She was 73 years of age. Agnes leaves behind to mourn, her loving husband of 50 years, Alois Bernauer of Lanigan; three daughters, one son, and their families: Linda (Dale) Mosher of Prince Albert; Dianne Bernauer (Vern Rabinovitch) of Humboldt; Karen (Regan) Emmons and children, Hayden and Sydney of Saskatoon; and Les (Jackie) Bernauer and children, Scott, Ryan and Taylor on the family farm at Lanigan; two brothers: Casper (Sally) Freriks and Gerhard (Pauline) Freriks, both of Pilger; in-laws of the Bernauer family; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Bernard "Ben " and Mary (nee Hueser) Freriks; parents-in-law, John and Veronica Bernauer; and by many aunts, uncles, and in-laws of the Bernauer family. Cemetery. BIEHN - Gerald Keith (August 19, 1927 - November 28, 2013). The death of Gerald Keith Biehn of Lanigan, Sask., occurred at his residence on Thursday, November 28, 2013. Interment to take place at a later date. BIEHN - Virginia E. Biehn passed away peacefully at St. Paul's Hospital. A beautiful life came to an end; she died, as she lived everyone's friend. BLAKE - Margaret Evelyn Billie (nee Howard), late of Prince Albert, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2006 at the age of 90 years. She was born to William and Marion Howard on May 11, 1915 at Lanigan, SK. Billie was raised and attended school at Lanigan. After grade 12 she completed a business course in Winnipeg and worked at Lanigan Hardware and the Dafoe Airbase where she met her husband, Sydney. Shortly after their wedding in 1942, Sydney was posted overseas and Billie worked at Kernaghan's Hardware in Prince Albert for several years. Later she worked at catering and finally for Statistics Canada until she retired at the age of 75 years. Billie was also involved in several Prince Albert organizations including Calvary United Church, S.H.A.R.E. and The Royal Canadian Legion. A favorite pastime of hers was playing bridge with the same group of friends over a period of 25 years. She will be fondly remembered for her cheerfulness, humor and loving hospitality. Billie is survived by her daughter, Dianne and son, Doug, both of Prince Albert; brother, Ken Howard of Regina; sisters, Eleanor Davies of Saskatoon and Isobel Whitehouse (Ray) of Peterborough, ON; and many other relatives. She was predeceased by her husband, Sydney; brother, Ralph; and other relatives. Boe, 88 years, of Lanigan passed away at Nokomis Health Center on Wednesday, November 23, 2011. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 28, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from Knox United Church Lanigan, officiated by Rev. Linsell Hurd. BRAKEFIELD - Harvey. November 21, 1939 - December 23, 2009. Harv passed away peacefully at home after a brief but valiant struggle with cancer. Left to cherish his memory are his loving fiancee Donna and her sons Christopher and Curtis Lummerding; his children Leslie, Kevin (Angela) and Lisa (Don) Boire; his six precious grandchildren; his brothers Kenneth, Raymond (Rose); his sister Joyce (Roland) Lucier and his children's mother Doreen. He was predeceased by his parents Ralph and Jean Brakefield. Harv was born on the family farm near Lanigan. The family moved to the Christopher Lake area where he attended school. He worked his early years for the Prince Albert Herald and the Saskatoon Star Phoenix. He came to make his career from his passion of carpentry. Harv and Donna spent endless weekends camping and dancing but he truly was happiest at building their new home in Christopher Lake and caring for their acreage on his John Deere Tractors. Harv will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his family, many friends and associates. A celebration of Harv's life will be held in the spring his favorite season. BRANDT - Arthur Roy. Born March 18th, 1927 in Lanigan, Saskatchewan. Passed away April 22nd, 2004 in Vancouver. Predeceased by his wife Vivianne. Survived by his daughters Wendy (Hugh), Barbara (Paul), granddaughters Melissa (Bruce) and Alexandra, great-grandsons Jordan and Bailey. Art was a long time member of the I.L.W.U. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and he enjoyed square-dancing and woodworking. Art was a good friend to many and was always there to lend a hand. He will be greatly missed many friends and relatives. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 28th at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Ocean View Funeral Home, with a viewing prior. BRICE - Dorothy Eva passed away peacefully on September 24, 2003 at Victoria Hospice. Dorothy was born on March 1, 1915 in Lanigan, Saskatchewan. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Eric, son Victor, daughter-in-law Bronwen, grandchildren Caitlin and Evan, of Nanaimo, sister Betty, brother-in-law Jim, of Victoria, and sister Joyce, of Banning, California. BURNETT - Kathleen Edith Doss (nee Pickering) died peacefully the morning of April 12, 2010. Doss was born in the Ladstock District near Leslie, SK. on June 18, 1918. She attended school at Ladstock and she married Jack Burnett in September of 1940. Jack and Doss farmed in the Mount Hecla District, also near Leslie, for 24 years. They moved to Saskatoon in 1964 where Jack sold real estate for four years. Jack and Doss then owned and operated a MacLeod's Hardware Store in Lanigan until they retired in 1980. Upon retirement they built a log cabin at Jackfish Lake and spent 20 fun filled years there before moving to Regina in 2000. Doss was actively involved in churches and communities in which she lived. She was an accomplished curler and won many local bonspiels. Doss had a quiet strength and she was always willing to listen. Doss' house was a favourite stopping off spot for family and friends and everyone knew there was room for one more at her table. Her pies alone were worth the trip. Those who knew Doss will miss her stories. She had a new one every time you visited her and there was always time for one more card game (which she usually won). In her later years she was a perennial favourite of the staff who were responsible for her care. Doss was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Jack; daughter, Sally (Skinner); her parents, Georgina and Isaac Pickering; sister, Mary Howe and brothers, Frank, Henry and George. Left with many wonderful memories are daughter, Janet (Rick) Sanden; sons, Cam (Brenda) and Andy (Harle); and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Everyone who met Doss had a special connection with her and all will remember a person who lived a long life and enjoyed every day to its fullest. The death of Gertrude Alberta Burns aged 90 years of Lanigan SK occurred at Lanigan Hospital on Tuesday January 20, 2009. A Memorial Service will be held in Knox United Church in Lanigan on Monday, January 26th at 2:00 p.m. Gertrude is survived by her husband, Robert; daughter, Gwen (George) Leffler; son, Garth (Doris) Burns; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. CAREY - Eleanor (nee Banks). The death of Mrs. Eleanor Carey, of Lanigan, occurred at Lanigan Hospital on Sunday, July 9, 2006. She was 85 years of age. Eleanor will be lovingly remembered by her devoted family: June (John) Kuss; John (Merle) Casey and their family, Michael (Kelly) Carey, and Sean (Gina) Carey; Allan Carey (Corinne Dilus); and Anita (Dean) Snider and their family, Mitchell, Mark, and Ryan; and by her brother, Brodie (Margaret) MacKay of Edinburgh, Scotland. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Carey (June 12, 1989); and by her parents, Andrew and Helen (nee MacConachie) Banks. In respect of Eleanor's wishes, there will not be a funeral service. CHALMERS - Frank, passed away on July 18, 2009 at 74 years of age, at the Lanigan Hospital surrounded by his family. Frank was born on June 7, 1935 in Creelman, SK. One of four children born to Les and Mary (Hay) Chalmers, he is predeceased by his sister, Merle; and survived by his two brothers, Ron and Harvey (Maureen) in Manitoba. Frank attended school in Belleview, Pipestone and Virden. Frank and Bev married in 1954 and shared 54 years building their family and working hard, while making many terrific memories along the way. The family moved often for work in the early years but settled in Lanigan in 1973. Dad enjoyed his travels, he loved history and through his hobby of researching genealogy has left us with generations of information about our Ancestry. Retiring from the PCS potash mine in 1999 after 26 years; he enjoyed golfing in Lanigan and they often took the clubs with them when they went visiting friends and relatives. They took pride in their large yard and their garden and flowers were lovely. Frank always had a project underway and a job list ready. He leaves his wife of 54 years, Bev (Lifeso); and their four children, Brian (Debbie), Pam, Kurt (Lois), and Janice (Germain); eleven grandchildren: Adam (Jan), Travis and Troy Mierke, Amy, Shane (Marc), and Alanna (Peter), Bradley (Kyle), Cole and Rebecca, Maddison and Geneva; and three great-grandchildren, Kaelyn, Hanna and Samantha; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Our husband, Father, Grandfather and Great grandfather, brother and friend leaves us a legacy of strength, love, determination, laughter and a lifetime of memories. He remains forever in our hearts. He moved to Winnipeg to attend Teachers College, and taught for several years before joining a bank. He worked as a bank manager in Lanigan, Sask., until 1910 when he moved to Sasakatoon tand took a position as General Manager of the Saskatchewan Investment and Trust Company. Shortly thereafter he set up his own real estate and Insurance business ("W. Harvey Clare - Real Estate, Farm Lands, Insurance, Rentals and Loans"). He served as an alderman from 1917-1922, and then as Mayor in 1924 and 1925. His term as mayor was a period of growing prosperity for a city that had been battered first by the collapse of the over-heated real estate market in 1913, then by a period of drought, the Great War (1914-1918), the influenza epidemic of 1918 and the post-war depression. W. Harvey Clare died on February 26, 1956 at the age of 82. He is buried in Saskatoon's Woodlawn Cemetery. COEN - Frederick Siegfried 'Sig' (April 25, 1912 - April 6, 2011). Frederick Siegfried 'Sig' Coen beloved husband of Lillian of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at the age of 98 years. Sig was born on April 25, 1912, in Chamberlain, SK. He was the only child of Frederick Carl Coen and Kirstin Tang Jensen Coen. He grew up in a number of small towns in Saskatchewan and Alberta where his father was a butcher and railroad employee. He married Lillian Torgerson in Lanigan, SK on July 23, 1941. He graduated from the College of Pharmacy in Saskatoon, SK in 1936 and worked in Viscount, Shellbrook, and Saskatoon before purchasing the drugstore in Lanigan in 1939. He and Lil worked side by side in Lanigan Drugs until they retired and sold their business in 1979. He continued to do relief pharmacist work until he turned eighty. He was active in the United Church, Masons, Eastern Star, Lanigan Hospital Board and spent many years on the Lanigan School Unit Board. His life work was dedicated to pharmacy and he was constantly learning and upgrading. Besides his loving wife Lillian, Sig is survived by son Garth (Irene); grandchildren, Kendra (Clint), Amanda and Spencer; great-grandchildren Kayla and Dylan; daughter Gail; grandchildren Andrea (Keith) and Pam (David); great-grandchildren Brian and Erika; sistersin-law Myrtle Spencer and Joan Hamilton; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, son-in-law Garry Hruska; brothers-in-law, Gilbert, Percy, Sidney Torgerson, Charlie Spencer and Don Leitch; sisters-in-law, Francis Leitch, Francis Torgerson and Myrtle Torgerson; and special cousins, Inga, Ken and June Tvedt. Services will be held in Lanigan, SK at a later date CRADDOCK - Edith Mary (nee McCulloch), born March 4, 1910 in Liverpool, England, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 in Regina. Mom came to Canada at the age of 5 with her parents, John and Edith McCulloch settling in Regina before moving to Lanigan, Sask. She married Bill Craddock on April 26, 1931 in Lanigan, and moved to Regina at that time. Edith was predeceased by her husband Bill (W. L.) in 1998 and granddaughter Karen; and leaves to mourn her passing her son Bill (Cheryl) Craddock and daughter Shirley (Hector) Hannah in Savona, BC; 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 6 greatgreatgrandchildren and nieces and nephews. At Mom's request, her remains are to be cremated and the ashes will be interred in the Craddock family plot in Lanigan at a private family service at a later date. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Silva Care Home for the excellent care extended to Mom over the past 3-1/2 years. CROCKER Elizabeth Margaret (nee Mundell). Born Elizabeth Margaret Mundell on May 23, 1923, Betty passed away on November 17, 2003. Predeceased by her loving husband Les, she is survived by her son Gary, daughter Shelley and their respective families. Betty was born in Lanigan Saskatchewan and moved with her family at a young age to Keating on the Saanich Peninsula. She lived for a time in Nanaimo and spent most of her life in Victoria where she maintained a loving home. Betty is remembered for her care and warmth, laughter, and her love of a good cup of tea. Honouring her wishes there will be no funeral service. DACK - Irene Dorothy (nee Siegel), 83 years of age, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2006, at Stensrud Lodge in Saskatoon. Reenie will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her family; Bill, her husband of sixty years; her children, Jackie Dack, Doug (Heather) Dack and family Colleen and Robin, Barbara (Terry) Moneo and family Carson, Clay and Mia; and her seven great grandchildren. Reenie was born in 1923 to August and Augusta Siegel on the farmstead south of Lanigan. She was the fifth of fourteen siblings including two half brothers. The death of Mr. John Daelick, 85 years, of Lanigan, occurred at the Lanigan Hospital on Thursday, October 16, 2003. DAVIDSON - Grant Davidson age 88 of Lanigan, SK, passed away at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon on December 8, 2013. Grant was born to Bertram and Marvel Davidson on August 30, 1925, in Lanigan. He grew up and obtained his education in Lanigan. Grant attended Stoner Rest School. Grant lived on the Davidson homestead where he operated a mixed farm and enjoyed every moment of the farming life style. He later took a course in diesel automotive and welding at a vocational school in Edmonton. To supplement the farm income he took a winter job in the town of Lanigan and worked at Ingham Industries for several years. Grant always managed to stay busy whether he was fixing farm equipment, helping out friends and neighbors or machining up a new invention. He later went on to manage the Lanigan skating rink from 1970 to 1985. He was a friend and mentor to the youth in the area. On July 30, 1993, Grant married his soul mate, Anne. Grant had many hobbies and interests which included being a HAM Operator (Handle # VE5JU) for many years, bowling right up to the age of 86, enjoying unlimited golf games on the course in Lanigan, playing cards and getting together with friends and family. He was an excellent Shuffle Board player and invented a special push stick for Anne. Grant and Anne enjoyed driving around the country roads, exploring new towns and cities, stopping in and visiting with friends and family. Grant and Anne remained on the farm until Spring 2009 where they made their home in the Town of Lanigan. Grant will be lovingly remembered by his wife of twenty years, Anne Davidson; stepson, John (Helen) Vereschahen and daughters, Vanessa and Jessica; sister, Mildred Kilby; nieces and nephews: Ward (Caleen) Kilby; Brenda (Jim) Emmonds; Lauren (Ed) Courcelles and daughters, Coryn and Lianna (fianc�, Dylan Brook); Alix (Jeff) Butler and daughters, Carling and Dayna; and numerous cousins. Grant was predeceased by his parents, Bertram and Marvel; brother, Lloyd in infancy; and brother-in-law, John Kilby. DREGER - Marion Lois (nee Craig) November 26, 1940 - June 6, 2010. It is with deep sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of our dear Mom and Grandma, Marion on Sunday, June 6, 2010 at the age of 69 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Don and sister, Sharon Mestas. She will always be remembered by her three children, son, Grant (Margaret-Ann); daughters, Marla (James) Enns and Leanne (Rick) Riedel; grandchildren, Dakota, Sierra, Alicia, Emily, Caitlyn and Carly; three sisters, Barb (John) D'Amuro, Donna (Jim) Littler, Loretta (Edward) Wirth; one brother, Brian Craig; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was born in Regina and raised in Broadview. She moved to Regina where she was employed by the Royal Bank and while there, met Don, a pharmacist. They were married in 1964 and in 1968 they moved to Lanigan where they opened Dregers Drugs. Mom was very involved in her church in Lanigan, and then Saskatoon where she resided after dad's passing. Mom loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. Mom was a people person and she loved to visit. She seemed to know someone wherever she went and could strike up a conversation with anyone. She cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. Mom loved having the grandkids over for sleepovers and looked forward to the many trips to Texas to visit Grant and his family. She will be forever missed. We Love You Mom. Interment will be held in the Lemberg Cemetery, Lemberg, SK on Saturday, June 12, 2010. DRIEMEL - Irene Margaret (nee Fick) August 21, 1914 - March 2, 2006. Irene was born in Yorkton, Sask. In 1917 the family moved to Lanigan, Sask. where she grew up. She graduated from the Vancouver General Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. She then felt divinely called to serve the Lord Jesus Christ to become a missionary in Africa. After studying theology she then went to Europe to learn the French language. Irene arrived in Gabon, French Equatorial Africa in 1948. She was first welcomed to the main mission station in Bangolo, Gabon. After a short time she was carried by four Africans in a tipogo to a distant jungle area. Two days later she arrived at Ileson, her new home. Following a period of orientation, Irene studied the native language and with the help of a French-speaking native pastor, she began to establish a medical clinic. At the request of the French government, Irene took on the care of lepers in that area and before long, she helped teach in the established mission school. Here the natives learned to read and write their own language and to use the number system. They were also taught hygiene principles and the enjoyment of music. Shortly before Irene's second furlough in 1958, she became very ill with a severe type of malaria. When her health improved, Irene returned to Canada to continue nursing. After taking post-graduate studies in obstetrics she supervised a maternity ward and taught students. Later she studied hospital administration and remained in that field until her retirement in 1979. In 1980 she married Wally Driemel and they made their home in Abbotsford, BC. There Irene did volunteer work with the Red Cross and programs helping seniors. Since 2002 she has been a resident of Bevan Lodge. Irene passed away peacefully on March 2, 2006. She was predeceased by her husband and two brothers. Irene leaves behind one brother, five step-children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren. At her request, a private family memorial will be held Friday, March 10, 2006. Irene's beautiful smile will be missed by so many. DVERNICHUK - Jack Ray (March 8, 1958 - February 26, 2015). After a very courageous battle with cancer the family is very saddened to announce that Mr. Jackie �Jack� Ray Dvernichuk, 56 years, of Lanigan passed away at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon on Thursday, February 26, 2015. Jack was born on March 8, 1958 to Victor and Anne (nee Bryksa) at Foam Lake, SK. He obtained his elementary education at Kuroki and graduated from Wadena Composite High School. Shortly after graduation he married his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, Glynis Holte. He worked at a variety of jobs until entering the University of Regina where he obtained his Local Government Degree. Jack and Glynis then moved to Humboldt for one year where he served as the Secretary-Treasurer for the Town of Humboldt then off to Whitewood for four years where he was the Town Administrator. During this time they were blessed with three wonderful children that Jack adored. In 1985 they made one final move to Lanigan where Jack served as Town Administrator until present. Jack also enjoyed playing ball and hockey as a young person and then golfing became his game of choice as an adult. His father role was very committed to his children and their sports and other activities. As a family, they enjoyed many camping trips at Buckhorn Bay. Then Jack being the �master chef� he was when it came to barbequing would cook up the tastiest meal anyone had ever had. No one ever left with an empty stomach. Jack�s vacations were very well planned and the grandkids smiles were his top priority. He enjoyed creating itineraries & budgets for everyone. At the end of the day, he always had a recap of activities and the days budget. Jack was very dedicated to the Town of Lanigan, if there was a cause needed he would take charge and get things rolling for fundraising and volunteering. Jack�s caring and giving personality showed strongly by the way he was always willing to help out in any way that was needed. Some of his biggest projects were the building of the Lanigan Recreation Complex, his last project that had his passion flowing was the Lanigan Medical Clinic. Unfortunately due to his failing health he was unable to continue on that project. With this love for volunteering he believed in getting everyone involved, including his family. Jack was always quick to volunteer his children for jobs that they now realize taught them many things about hard-work and dedication. He served on the executive of �UMAAS� Urban Municipal Administrators� Association of Saskatchewan for four years. He also coached hockey for over 20 years, 10 of which were coaching and managing the Lanigan Pirates senior team. The highlight of that career was coaching his son, Nic. Jack was key in organizing the Sheldon Brookbank day to bring the Stanley Cup to Lanigan, as he had coached Sheldon in minor hockey. Every spring and summer you could find Jack out on the Golf course with family and friends. Jack enjoyed his annual guys golfing trip to the mountains. Jack was an avid gardener, every year he had a friendly veggie growing competition with his next door neighbour, Paul. Jack and Glynis had many wonderful trips to Las Vegas. Some with family members and friends. Last fall, Jack, Glynis, their children and grandchildren enjoyed a very memorable vacation to Disneyland that brought him so much joy and happiness. Jack also held his Ukrainian Heritage very close to his heart. Jack�s wonderful, fun-loving, caring and giving personality will definitely be missed in the community of Lanigan, but especially by his family. EICHORST - Jean Olive (nee Ewen) November 8, 1915 - March 26, 2014. The death of Mrs. Jean Olive Eichorst of Humboldt, SK, occurred at Lanigan Hospital, Lanigan, SK, on Wednesday, March 26, 2014. She was 98 years of age. A Funeral Service for Jean will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lanigan, on Monday, March 31, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Lutheran Cemetery, Lanigan. EICHORST - Lydia Susanna (nee Teske). The peaceful death of Mrs. Lydia Eichorst, 98 years, of St. Mary's Villa occurred at her residence on Wednesday March 15, 2006. Lydia was born on October 27, 1907 at Esk, SK to Gustav and Juliana (nee Wildeman) Teske. She attended Hiawatha and Deer Plain schools, but after grade 2 or 3 she had to stay at home and help with the farming chores, such as milking of cows and helping to take care of her 9 brothers and sisters. A very determined woman, she was able to learn how to read and write on her own. Lydia had a love for music so she was able to take some lessons and learn to play the organ and piano. She loved to sing and would be found singing in the church choir. On February 10, 1926 Lydia married Theodore Eichorst of Rush Lake. They were blessed with 6 children. Due to a devastating accident in 1946 Theodore was killed. As a young widow with six children, the independent woman that Lydia was, allowed her to continue running the mixed farm. Her gardens were exceptionally large and she could grow anything, it was noted that everything she touched grew, she indeed had a green thumb. She could grow the nicest celery around, and the biggest potato patch, as she would comment, if you have potatoes you won't go hungry. Lydia would always share her produce with her family. Even though she worked very hard, she made time to sing and enjoy music with her children. Carding wool and then making wool blankets kept them very warm. In 1956 she moved to LeRoy, but continued to farm and work as a caretaker at the LeRoy school for 17 years a job she truly enjoyed, and treasured her plaque that was given to her upon her retirement. Making that transition from farm to town was not easy; she continued to raise chickens in her yard in town. Farming was truly Lydia's love, right up to her later years she would get assistance with the picking of stones, seeding and harvest but all the maintenance and other workings of the farm were done by her. In 1978 at the age of 71, Lydia finally gave up the role as an active farmer and retired to LeRoy and was kept busy with sewing and crocheting. To prove how determined and independent she was she would not accept her old age security check until she was 79 years old, she wanted to stay young, and she did remain young at heart until the age of 82 when due to failing health, Lydia had to take up residence at St. Mary's Villa where she resided for the past 16 years. The sudden and unexpected death of Delbert Mearle Elliott, of Lanigan, occurred at Minot, North Dakota, on Friday, October 14, 2006. He was 74 years of age. Interment will follow at St. Scholastica R.C. Cemetery Burr District. FICK - Elmer. The peaceful death of Mr. Elmer Fick, 90 years, of Lanigan occurred on Tuesday, April 1, 2014. Elmer was born at Lanigan on February 21, 1924 to Henry and Clara (nee Walters) Fick. He attended school there and upon graduation, remained on the home farm assisting his parents with the mixed farming operation. In 1950, he married Myrtle Thoen of Viscount and they operated the farm until 1991 when they moved to Lanigan. During his farming years he took time to be the President of Lanigan Rural Telephone Company as well as Trinity Lutheran Church. He was the only surviving member of the Founding Committee of Central Parkland Lodge and was a member of their first board. Elmer was also a councillor for the RM of Prairie Rose and a member of the Lanigan Hospital Board. Elmer was an avid sports fan, especially hockey and fastball. On his many travels to the USA, he enjoyed going to games in places such as Chicago, New York, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles and Tampa. Elmer enjoyed the many visits with friends and relatives, be it at the lake, on special occasions or on coffee row. A 35th wedding anniversary trip to 11 countries in Europe was very enjoyable as were their many trips across Canada, USA, Mexico and Hawaii. Elmer was predeceased by his wife Myrtle in 2008; his parents; brothers, Albert and William and sister, Irene. He is survived by his two sons and their families: Perry (Eileen) and son Reagan, and Linden (Debbie) and son Brandon, and many relatives both here and in the USA. At Elmer�s request, there will not be a Funeral Service. FICK - Myrtle C. Fick (nee Thoen) passed away on Friday, August 1, 2008 at the age of 80 years. She was born to Ole and Ambjorg Thoen of Viscount, Saskatchewan on December 23, 1927. She was the youngest in a family of nine children. She attended Morris School, finished high school in Viscount, and later attended Normal School in Saskatoon. She taught near Kelliher, Guernsey, Lanigan and Esk. While at Stoner Rest near Lanigan, she was stricken with polio and spent six months in total confinement. When she returned home she learned how to walk again. She also learned how to play the accordion and piano by ear, which she enjoyed the rest of her life. Myrtle enjoyed flowers and the beauty of nature, and traveling to various parts of the world including holidays across Canada, the U.S., Mexico, Hawaii, and Europe on many occasions. She especially liked visiting with family, friends, and relatives. In 1950, she married Elmer Fick of Lanigan and started farming there until 1991, when they moved to Lanigan. On July 20, 2008, they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. They raised two sons, Perry and Linden of Lanigan. She was predeceased by her parents; three brothers, Leonard, Bert, and Ole; three sisters, Inga, Ella, Gunda; and sister-in-law Lois. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Elmer; children, Perry (Eleanor) and son Regan, Linden (Debbie) and son Brandon; brothers, Norman (Ruth) Thoen of Viscount, Edward (Marjorie) Thoen of Birch Hills; sister-in-law, Iona Thoen of Saskatoon, Violet Fick of Lanigan. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephew, in-laws and friends. At Myrtle's request, there will be no service. FISHER - Garry. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather on Saturday, August 15, 2009. Garry is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Darlene (nee Pratt) Fisher of Lanigan, SK; their two children and six grandchildren: Derek (Jennifer) Fisher of Lanigan, SK and their daughters, Courtney, Bree and Megan and Lance (Cheryl) Fisher of Weyburn, SK and their daughters, Jessica, Kirsten and Lacey; his mother, Joyce Fisher of Lanigan, SK; four sisters: Noreen Jantzen of Saskatoon, SK; Selena Farrell of Peachland, BC; Myrna (Merle) Koberinski of Naniamo, BC and Rhonalee (Myles) Boe of Regina, SK and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Budd Fisher. Garry also had many friends that loved him dearly, too many to mention. Garry was born March 24, 1946 in Humboldt, SK to Budd and Joyce (nee Wolfe) Fisher. He was their only son. Garry resided in and had an affection for his hometown of Lanigan his whole life. Garry married Darlene Pratt of Bjorkdale, SK in 1970 and they began their life together in Lanigan, where he worked at Alwinsal/ Potash Corp. He then went on to do various carpentry work and finished his working career as a journeyman millwright. Garry was a good, honest, hard working man and he instilled those fine qualities in his children. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball and hockey which led to countless hours of coaching and traveling with his boys. In time Garry played, coached and managed the Lanigan Twilight Ball Team, for over 30 years, while also attending and traveling with the Lanigan Pirate Hockey Team. Garry loved hunting and fishing, qualities instilled by his father that he also passed on to his boys. He played lots of cards and horseshoes over the years. In his retirement years, he loved to putter around, whether in the garage or on the farm. Garry will always be remembered for his coffeeing, constant joking around, and his infectious laugh. Garry's ultimate love was his family. He was a very devoted husband, and an extremely proud parent and grandparent. He loved spending quiet time at home with his loving wife, fishing and hunting with his boys and creating many treasured memories, never to be forgotten by all of his grandchildren. FOOKES - Una Elaine , resident of Yorkton, passed away on January 11, 2010 at the Regina General Hospital. She was 70 years of age. Una grew up in the Calder-MacNutt district, moved to Lanigan at age 18 and worked for Saskatchewan Telecommunications until 1958, when she returned to Yorkton to continue her career as a telephone operater until her retirement in 1999. She is survived by her husband, Ken; two daughters: Laurel (Frank Chiarizia, grandchildren Mena and Conrad); Karen (Murray Marshall, grandchildren Derek and Kelsey); two sons: Darren (Bev Zwirsky, grandchildren Eric and Justin); and Trent (Brenda Pawliw, grandchildren Bram and Byron). Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Yorkton. Interment in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens. FORSYTH - Sarah Jane Forsyth (nee Bell) passed away at Nipawin Hospital on July 1, 2005 after a short illness. Sadie was born on September 9th, 1909 to Joseph and Sarah (Fiddler) Bell in Seattle, Washington. They moved to BC and then to the Meskanaw district in 1914. On August 15, 1931 she married William Forsyth. To this union 14 children were born. They moved to the homestead in Petaigan district in 1938 until 1971. Besides raising a large family, she worked out cooking at various work camps from 1968 - 1970. In 1971 she moved to Kelliher to operate a restaurant. Then in 1973 moved to Lanigan to open a service station and caf� with her son Don. She worked in the lodge in Lanigan and managed another restaurant before moving to Nipawin in 1978. Once in Nipawin, Sadie along with her husband were caretakers of an apartment complex until 1989. During her retirement years she took up carpet and lawn bowling. She traveled to many places for tournaments and made many friends and brought home several trophies and prizes. Playing cards and knitting were also pastimes she enjoyed. After her husband passed away she moved to Aspen Grove where she resided until her passing. Sadie was predeceased by her husband Bill; her Dad Joseph in 1930, her Mom Sarah in 1942; 3 infant sons: Robert, Thomas and Wayne; sons-in-law: Dennis and Steve; 6 sisters and 5 brothers. Left to cherish her memory are 6 sons: Peter (Lori), Ken, Don (Dorothy), Bill, Cliff (Laurie), Rick (Gloria); 5 daughters: Phyllis, Wilma, Ellen, Rita (Harvey), Liz (Roger); 29 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren. She was a daughter of Pre. Abraham Friesen. She was saved four years ago, and upon her death bed she gave testimony of a living hope in her Savior. She died on Mar. 8, 1912 and was buried on the 12th. Services were conducted by Herny Bartel, John Gehrbrandt, Henry Ratzlaff and E. S. Hallman. GERHARDT - Loretta (nee Jordens) was surrounded by her family when she passed away on November 2, 2010 at the age of 81. Loretta was born on a farm near Sinnett, SK on April 11, 1929. She married Leonard Gerhardt in Kennedy SK on November 3, 1948. Loretta began a teaching career at the age of 17 at Edenland, SK (near Kipling) and carried on to teach at several First Nations schools (Sakimay, Cowesses, Marieval). Together Leonard and Loretta raised 11 children and in 1962 they purchased their property in the Qu'Appelle Valley near Marieval, SK and together successfully farmed until the early eighties. They continued living on the family farm until they moved to Moose Jaw in 2006. Loretta was known for her loving nature, joyful spirit and inner strength. Family was her passion and she was a master at keeping those connections. She encouraged each one of her children to pursue their dreams in whatever field they chose and was proud of each one of them. Her interests were vast and included singing & playing the piano, sports, family gatherings, cards and games, quilting, sewing, crocheting, puzzling, politics and gardening. She was an organizer, bookkeeper, penny pincher, educator and motivator. Loretta had a deep spiritual faith and was active in her parish at Marieval for many years. Her spirit was also nurtured by her beloved valley and spending time at the cabin on Crooked Lake. Loretta was predeceased by her parents Joe (1999) and Julia (1967) Jordens, brother Bernard Jordens (1926) and daughter Carol Diane Broda (1980). He was the youngest son of Martha and Emil Greve. Dennis and his 7 brothers and 2 sisters worked on the farm and enjoyed sports and music. Dennis was a spirited saxophone player and had a great bass voice. After his parents died Dennis moved into Lanigan and continued to farm with his brothers Herb, Elmer and Eddie. Dennis had a special relationship with Elmer and Evelyn and their daughters Debbie and Lori, who thought of Dennis as their brother. They had fond memories of summer fishing trips at McPhee Lake, Waden Bay and Waskesiu in their fifth wheeler. Dennis is remembered by his family and friends as a gifted story teller and impersonator. Dennis is predeceased by his parents Martha and Emil, and his brothers and sisters-in-law Herbert and Rhoda, Edwin and Lillian, Alfred and Phyllis, and Gordon and Elaine. GUNTHER - Dallas (June 11, 1949 - December 28, 2010). Dallas passed away peacefully on December 28th, 2010 at his home, with his loving family by his side, after a courageous fight with cancer. Our dear, dear father, gramps, brother, uncle and friend is now dancing on 2 good legs with his beloved English warbride, Kathleen. He died peacefully Thursday, October 7, 2010 in St. Paul's Hospital following a brief but courageous battle with pneumonia. He is survived by children Barbara Zaleschuk and Merv (Saskatoon) and Barry (Sun Valley, SK); grandchildren Reg Peters and Jane Rathgeber and Kevin (Saskatoon); sisters Elsie Schmidt and Helen Stevenson (both in Kelowna); and many nieces and nephews. John was born in Lanigan, SK. September 13, 1920, youngest of 20 children. In the 30's the Gunther family was the Lanigan Ball team, which has been inducted into the SK Sports Hall of Fame. John Albert worked on the family farm until he enlisted in the Canadian Corp of Engineers First Canadian Division in 1942. He married the love of his life in Brighton, England in 1943 and was seriously wounded in Italy near Ortona just weeks before the birth of his daughter in Brighton, December 1943. After the family settled in Saskatoon, John began working for the DVA, his last 20 years a devoted Pensions Advocate for veterans all over SK and was a proud War-Amp himself. He was a faithful Lutheran, participating and supporting St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Saskatoon before moving to Kelowna in 1989. John and Kathleen were devout members and supporters of First Lutheran Church in Kelowna for over 20 years. John was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Kathleen, September 1, 2009, his daughter-in-law of 18 years, Cher, March 29, 2009 and 18 brothers and sisters. His war injuries kept him from being active in some favorite sports but didn't keep him from playing guitar in a swing band in the 50's, lots of golfing, hunting geese, ducks and sandhill crane which Kathleen cooked with a big rock as stuffing you ate the rock, threw away the crane. John and Kit enjoyed winters in Texas in the 80's buying a home in Llano Grande Lake Park, near McAllen TX. They enjoyed travelling to England to visit family, and holidays to Bermuda, Hawaii and thru Canada and the USA. We will remember John always, with love and pride, with the happiest times spent together, he was a wonderful man, a strong, courageous hero alive in our hearts forever. He gave generously to almost every charity that asked, his family and his church and would be pleased if any donations of your choice were given in his name. A small family service will be held in John's memory. GUNTHER - Otto George. The death of Mr. Otto George Gunther of Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan, occurred at his residence on Sunday, January 4, 2004 at the age of 95 years. Otto will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Lydia (nee Friesen) Gunther of Lanigan; their two children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Florence (Joe) Pronych of Lake Lenore and family, Evan (Lana) Pronych of Humboldt and children, Abbie Peterson, Justin Pronych and Rylan Pronych, Scott Pronych of Prince Albert and Doran (Sherri) Pronych of Southey and; Vern (Janet) Gunther of Spruce Home and family, Owen Gunther of Saskatoon, Tavia Gunther of Lake Louise, AB and Christine of Brooks, AB. Interment will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Lanigan. GURKE - Arthur Gustav (May 13, 1934 - January 2, 2012). The family of Art Gurke sadly announce his peaceful passing at Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan on January 2, 2012 at 8:30 p.m. Art farmed in the Jansen/Lanigan district until 1977, when he and his wife Elma moved to Lanigan, SK. Art then found employment at the Co-op Lumberyard, the piggery, High School and as a guard for the RCMP. Art retired in 1992. He continued to stay busy gardening, cooking, baking, babysitting, smithing, fishing, camping, socializing and spending time with family. Left behind to mourn are his loving wife of almost 53 years, Elma; his six children: Helen Wight; Maryanne (Roger) Fedora; Margaret (Ron) Stratuliak; Beverley (Murray) Worobec; Alvin (Johanne) Gurke; and Alfred (Gail) Gurke; 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; three sisters: Annie Block; Olga Kautz and Ludema (Al) Kuechle and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Annie Gurke; Elma's parents, Jack and Ida Hansen; brother, Alfred Gurke; brothers-in-law: Albert Hansen, Ray Dobson, Eugene Proznick, Sam Block and Arnold Kautz; sisters-in-law: Elaine Dobson, Anne Hansen, and Bertha Gurke; nephew, Gerald Kautz and niece, Hazel Hansen. HAMM - Lou (nee Blackport) Rodenbush Hamm passed away peacefully on September 10, 2009 at the age of 93 years. She was a resident of Sunset Haven, Carnduff, SK., but a long time resident of Glen Ewen and the Oxbow district. Lou was born to John & Fannie Blackport in Lanigan, SK., on August 21, 1916. She married Carl Rodenbush and they raised 3 daughters. She was predeceased by her husband Carl Rodenbush, her second husband Jack Hamm, son-in-law Bill Barclay, daughter and son-in-law Donna and Grant Mohagen, and son-in-law Murray Boe. Lou leaves to mourn and remember her dearly, her daughter Bonnie Boe (Barclay), 100 Mile House B.C., Peggy (Norm) Bonk of Edmonton; 5 grandchildren, Charmaine Boe, Carla (Matt) Fuller, Paula (Brian) Derby, Keri (Jason) Dolynchuk and Chad (Paula) Bonk; 3 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, also many friends and loved ones. We as a family have been handed down her ever loved receipes, that she enjoyed making and we so much enjoyed eating! She loved her garden and also was a very talented seamstress. She loved to knit and crochet of which we all have enjoyed the beautiful product of. Her home was always open to all who came, to enjoy a coffee, visit, or a wonderful meal of goodies from her garden. HAUGRUD - Anne (nee Williams) September 30, 1919 - December 25, 2015. Anne passed away in the presence of her Lord on Christmas morning at the age of 96 years. She has left this land of the dying for the land of the living. Anne leaves to mourn, her precious son Lindsay Roy Haugrud and her brother Bob Williams of Alert Bay BC, along with many nieces and nephews and relatives of both the Williams and Haugrud families. Anne was predeceased by her parents Mary and Joseph Williams, her brothers Jack Williams, Tom Williams, Brian Williams and her beloved husband Roy Haugrud. Anne grew up on her parents farm at Lanigan, Sask. She chose to become a school teacher, a decision she never regretted and took immense pleasure in the teaching of her students. Anne loved God and derived great pleasure from His creation. She was always thrilled with a beautiful sunrise or sunset or the beauty of a star lit sky. In 1962, Anne married Roy Haugrud of Viscount Sask. and was a very devoted wife and mother. Anne and Roy farmed the family farm at Viscount for many years until their retirement. She was an ardent gardener and was passionately fond of her flowers and her garden. Her cooking skills were second to none and it was always a treat for the family and friends to get an invitation for dinner. Anne will be lovingly remembered by her Lindsay and all of her extended family. The funeral service for Anne will be held on Monday, January 11, 2016 at Erindale Alliance Church, 310 Perehudoff Crescent, beginning at 1:30 p.m. followed by lunch and then interment at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. HEIN - Erwin Alfons (March 22, 1924 - January 17, 2014). The sudden and unexpected death of Mr. Erwin Alfons Hein of Lanigan, SK, occurred at his residence on Friday, January 17, 2014. He was 89 years of age. Erwin is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helene (nee Wright) Hein of Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan; sister-in-law, Ruth Hein; brother-in-law, Gordon Lissel; sister-in-law, Elsie Webb; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Ferdinand and Nathalia (nee Rucks) Hein; and by his siblings: Elsie (John) Schlichting, Clara (Emmanuel) Egler, Wilfred Hein, Evelyn Lissel, and four siblings in infancy. The Funeral Service will be held at Knox United Church, Lanigan, on Friday, January 24, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., presided by Jeanette Warrian. Interment will follow at Lanigan Public Cemetery. HISLOP - Florence Mae (nee Slater) passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Moose Mountain Lodge, Carlyle, Feb. 27, 2006 at the age of 75. Florence grew up on a farm and attended school in the Lanigan area. After leaving school Florence began employment as a telephone switchboard operator at Elstow, Sask., eventually ending up in Edmonton doing the same type of work at Metals Ltd. This is where she met her husband John . They were married and lived in Edmonton for 13 years before moving back to the family farm at Arcola, Sk., in 1965. They eventually moved into Arcola where Florence cooked at Brock Union Hospital for 17 years. After retiring they moved to Kenosee Lake for 2 years, back to Arcola, then down to Estevan, and finally back to Arcola. Florence was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Helen Slater, 3 brothers, Edwin, Joseph, and Ken Slater. She is survived by two sisters, Ethel Huculak (Saskatoon) and Hilda Shields (Regina), one bro! ther, Clarence Slater (Saskatoon), her husband John of 53 years, and her 3 daughters, Kathy Lawless (Barry), Marion Hingston (Dana) and Helen Fornwald (Devon), and 6 grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at both the Lodge at Carlyle and Sundown Haven in Carnduff for the thoughtful and loving care Florence received and also a very special thank you to Sister Lucille for the many hours she spent helping Florence until the end. HODGES - Mary "Irene" (nee Hill) June 14, 1922 � August 30, 2014. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of an extraordinary woman - Mary "Irene" Hodges in the early morning of August, 30, 2014, in her 92nd year in Regina, SK. Irene believed that the best things in life were not things. Her passions were her family, teaching, travelling, writing and contributing to her community. She did all this with passion and commitment. Irene taught school for 27 years, retiring in 1981. Irene was predeceased by her parents Agnes and Russell Hill; her husband Patrick "Earl" Hodges in 1988; granddaughter Chelsea Hodges in 1984; her sister Florence Webb; brother Bruce Hill; special friend Eric Gibney; several brother-and-sisters-in-law, as well as nephews. She leaves to mourn her three children Jim, Rick (Angela) and Elaine; her cherished grandchildren Jason(Adrienne), Tyler (Amber), Jennifer, Miranda and Tara (Brad), and great-grandchildren, Keyera, Kable, Tyrus, Sam and Max. Interment will take place at the Lanigan Cemetery. HOLMLUND - Amanda. The very sudden and unexpected death of Amanda Holmlund, 28 years, of Lanigan occurred at the Lanigan Hospital on Sunday, September 9, 2007. Amanda will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her mother, Linda Holmlund; two brothers: Rob (Robbin) Holmlund and family, Arik and Anne and Layne (Cara) Holmlund and family, Damon and Elisa all of Lanigan. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 14, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. from Trinity Lutheran Church Lanigan. HUCULAK - Mike Huculak (December 3, 1929 - November 5, 2011). The death of Mike Huculak, age 81 years, formerly of Little Bear Lake, occurred at St. Joseph's Home on Saturday, November 5, 2011. Mike is survived by a brother, Ralph; a sister, Ann; two sisters-in-law, Kay and Pearl; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Doreen, Pearl, Mary, Polly, Sister Catherine (SSMI) and brothers Ted, Nick, Jack, Daniel, Andy, and Alex. He was born on December 3, 1929 to Harry and Ksenia Huculak and grew up in the Lanigan area. His schooling included St. Joseph's College in Yorkton and Normal School in Saskatoon. He taught school for a short time and he also taught at a technical college in Moose Jaw. Mike then became a skilled carpenter and built two houses in Saskatoon. In 1997 he retired to his cabin at Little Bear Lake. He was knowledgeable and well read. Mike enjoyed fishing and anything to do with the great outdoors. In the fall of 2010 he had a stroke and was in hospital in Prince Albert until August 2011 when he moved to St. Joseph's Home in Saskatoon. The family wishes to thank the staff at Victoria Hospital and the Sisters and staff at St. Joseph's Home for their care. HUEBERT - Mary (nee Matthies) passed away on Friday, May 7, 2004, at Central Park Lodge, in Lanigan, SK, at age 90. She was born on February 7, 1914, at Pleshanoff, Neu Zamara, South Russia to Cornelius and Suzanna Matthies. The family immigrated to Canada in 1925 and homesteaded at Rabbit Lake, SK. She married John Huebert on June 30, 1940, and together they farmed first at Beechy and later at Waldheim, SK. In 1964 John and Mary sold the farm and moved to Saskatoon. In 1984 they returned to Waldheim. Mary loved people. Her greatest joy was to gather friends and family around her well-laden table, to enjoy its delights with much conversation and joviality. She was a very positive person who lived confidently, in reliance on God. After John passed away in 1994, Mary moved to Lanigan to be near her son Dennis. Although she suffered the gradual debilitation of Parkinson's disease, she maintained her interest in her church, family, friends and acquaintances. Mary is survived by sons, Alfred (Marlene) Huebert, Dennis (Judy) Huebert, and Timothy (Karen) Huebert, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and her sisters, Helen Jantzen and Katie (Nick) Wall. She was predeceased by her husband John Huebert; brothers Cornelius Matthies, John Matthies, George Matthies, and Abe Isaac; sisters, Annie Klassen, Elizabeth Giesbrecht, Kathryn Schroeder, Susie Thiessen; and grandson Phillip Huebert. Interment will follow at the Brotherfield Cemetery at 4:30 pm. IRWIN - Mary Flora (nee Campbell) Irwin November 4th, 1910 November 23rd, 2004. Mary passed away peacefully at her residence, Stensrud Lodge. She was born in the Burr District and attended the Morven School, completing her schooling in Humboldt. She then attended Normal School in Saskatoon in the early thirties. She taught at the Wheat Heart School (North of Borden), Harris, Shell Lake and Rose Valley. She married Murray Irwin on October 17th, 1935. Her life on the farm in the Borden area was busy tending to livestock, garden, cooking, washing and mending clothes, and raising her children. They moved to Lanigan in 1961 and she worked as an assistant cook for many years. In 1988, she became a resident at Stensrud Lodge. Mary loved music and dancing. She is dearly loved and remembered by her daughter, Janette (Ed) Pilon of Saskatoon, SK; son, Dale Irwin of Abbotsford, BC; five grandchildren, Linda (Dave) Pisio, Glen (Lisa) Pilon, Jeff (Dianne) Pilon, Rick (Amanda) Pilon, and Brad Pilon (Ashley); eight great grandchildren, Brett and Brady Pisio; Adam, Kurt, and Megan Pilon; Waylon and Sage Pilon; and Isabella Pilon; sisters, Flora Dundas and Katherine McConnell; sister-in-law, Winnie Irwin; many nieces, nephews and friends. Janet was born on Sunday, July 8, 1923 on the homestead in Lanigan, SK, the 4th of 14 children. On May 24, 1947 she married Nick Indzeoski, and they opened a restaurant/bus depot in Humboldt, which they operated together for 8 years. In 1955 they moved to Saskatoon and in 1961 Janet joined the staff at the Bay Cafeteria where she became a familiar friendly face to staff and customers for the next 27 years, an achievement in which she took great pride. A very family oriented person, it was one of mom's great pleasures to host many family gatherings in her home, where we were all privileged to enjoy her exceptional home-cooked feasts. When she wasn't cooking for us, she was busy enjoying her weekly Saturday morning visits to the Farmers' Market, the occasional bingo game, and taking her grandchildren and great grandchildren for a bus ride to go shopping downtown, and to the `Bay' for lunch. Those are special outings that they will always remember doing with their `baba'. Mom was also an active member of St. George's UCWL where she enjoyed many lively sessions of perogie-making and paskabaking with the other members. Vladimir Mudri, Celebrant. Interment will take place in Woodlawn Catholic Cemetery. KACHUR William "Bill" passed away on January 21, 2011 at the age of 86. Bill was born in Punichy, Sask. on August 7, 1924. He farmed near Lanigan, moved to Saskatoon and later moved to Vancouver. He is lovingly remembered by his family in British Columbia and Saskatchewan. Bill leaves behind four children Nancy Meyer, Cathy Rosenthal, Grant Kachur and Gwen Bull; and six grandchildren Joseph Rosenthal, Jackie Dengler and Brittany, John, James and Christina Bull. He is survived by his siblings Peter Kachur, Paul Kachur, Dan Kachur and Jean Young; as well as his former wife Beatrice Kachur. Bill will be remembered for his caring about his family, his beliefs about social justice and caring for others less fortunate. Bill had a passion for politics, opera and letter writing. KENNEDY - Ivan S. of Lanigan passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2009, in Lanigan. He was 80 years of age. Ivan was born on September 17, 1928, to Robert and Elizabeth Kennedy in Wolfe, SK. He worked at various jobs over the years, including with the C.P.R., Thomas Motors, and the Town of Lanigan. Ivan is best remembered province-wide as a highlyskilled backhoe operator, an occupation he pursued from 1958 to 1977. Ivan loved to operate any kind of machinery. In his leisure, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards, dancing, and going for coffee with "the boys." Ivan is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bernice (nee Thomas) Kennedy of Lanigan; one son, David (Pam) Kennedy of Airdrie, AB; two daughters and four grandchildren: Christine Kennedy (Lou Smith) of Saskatoon and family, Christopher and Scott; and Bettyanne (Ken) Williams of Lanigan and family, Cheryl and Jeff; sister-in-law, Alice Silvester of Saskatoon; and by his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Roy Silvester; sister, Irene (Max) Torrance; and by nephew, Gordon Torrance. KEW - Marjorie Caroline (nee Lien) resident of the Lestock Integrated Health Centre, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 30th 2006. She was 79 years of age. Marjorie was born on May 4, 1927 at Lanigan, Saskatchewan; to proud parents Halvor and Dorothy (nee Mehew) Lien. She attended Lanigan School till grade 10 and completed her education at Kelliher School. During her younger years, she worked at the Kelliher Creamery, a store and the caf�. While working at the caf� she started dating Lorne Kew. They were united in marriage on November 20, 1946 at the United Church manse in Kelliher. This union was blessed with six children. Marjorie was a true homemaker, she loved baking buns and pies, canning fruit, gardening and knitting. She also worked alongside her husband at the Kelliher School for 32 years until their retirement in 1983. Marjorie was an active member of the Kelliher Legion Auxillary and in the Kelliher Heritage Museum. Her hobbies were curling, bird watching, playing cards, reading and spending time with her family and friends. Marjorie became a resident of the Lestock Integrated Health Centre in April of 2003 after suffering a stroke. Predeceased by her husband Lorne on August 24, 1992; her parents, Halvor & Dorothy Ette; sons Brian and Barry; a brother, John Lien; sisters: Gladys Lien and Dorothy May Lien; brothers-in-law: Morris Kew, Wesley Kew, Murray Braithwaite, August Wilderman, and Enard Faure; sisters-in-law: Elsie Wilderman, Lillian Kew, Evelyn Braithwaite and Nellie Kew. Marjorie leaves to mourn her passing and to celebrate her life: sons: Kirby (Phyllis), and Douglas (Sharon), all of Kelliher; daughters: Vivian Kew of Weyburn and Lauren (Cliff) Forsyth of Biggar; a daughter-in-law, Valerie Kew of Regina; grandchildren: Becky, Trevor, Farrah, Jeremy, Michelle (Jake), Amanda, Tim (Leah), Allyson, Christina, Bernadette, Mathew, Janine (Doug) and Jared; great grandchildren: MacKenzie, Kiera, Zachery, Jocelyn and Abigail. Eugene Owerko gave the eulogy. The interment followed in the Kelliher Memorial Gardens with grandsons Trevor, Jeremy, Tim, and Mathew Kew, Jared Forsyth and Jake Knowles serving as the casketbearers. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Kelliher branch #219 attended as a group and formed and honour guard at the church. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home. KING - Frank. It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Frank King which occurred on Saturday, October 23rd, 2010 at the age of 96 years. Frank was born August 19th, 1914 in Lanigan SK. He was predeceased by his dear companion of 22 years Beatrice Shannon (1976), his loving wife Dagny (2004), and his only sister Elsie (Len) Funk. Surviving Frank is his stepson Randy (Maureen) Carruthers of Lloydminster and their children Michelle (Blair) Daviduke of Saskatoon and Jackie (Mike) Snair of Okanagan Falls, BC; great-grandchildren Braydon and Kelsey Daviduke and Shaylyn and Marcus Snair. Also surviving are his nieces, Beverly (Ches) Fairburn of Saskatoon and family and Karen (Don) Wilkinson of Perdue and family; as well as many great nieces, nephews and cousin Joyce Lowenburger of Wynyard and family. In the early years, Frank helped his Dad in Lanigan in the Deering Implement business and in 1930 moved to Leroy with his parents to continue farming until 1954 and then moved to Delisle and worked with his brother-in-law in Len's Esso delivering gas and oil for Imperial Oil Company. It was during this time that he received his Journey Mechanics papers. Frank moved to Saskatoon in 1960 and worked for Tom Tisnic Super Service and then for the Saskatoon Public School Board staring at Walter Murray Collegiate. He also worked for Hunter's Bowlerama and King George Lanes until 1979 when he retired. Frank suffered from rheumatic fever during his teen years and spent allot of time in hospital. During that time Frank entered a contest in the newspaper and won and received a new bicycle. Frank was a very kind and quiet man, so respectful and respected. Always a gentle man, he was loved by all and will be dearly missed and ever remembered. Thank you to the staff of Porteous Lodge, City Hospital and St. Paul's Hospital for such good care. KOBERINSKI - Mary Agnes Koberinski passed away peacefully at St. Paul's Hospital on November 7, 2004 at the age of 88 years. Agnes was born in Sinnett, SK on November 4, 1916. She grew up in the area and married Joseph in October of 1935. They farmed until they moved into Saskatoon in 1959. Agnes was then employed at St. Paul's Hospital. At her retirement in 1985 she was Department Head of the ECG area. KOKOTYLO - Mary (nee Paproski). The death of Mrs. Mary Kokotylo, 99 years, of Extendicare/ Preston, Saskatoon and formerly of Lanigan, occurred at her residence on Monday, November 17, 2003. Mary was born on December 24, 1903 to Michael and Theresa (nee Sharanowski) Paproski in Manitoba. When Mary was very young, the family moved to the Lanigan area, where she attended Valleyfield School. In 1914, her mother died, and Mary, along with her older sister, Sophie, took on the responsibility of raising their younger siblings. On May 21, 1931, she married Nick Kokotylo at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Lanigan. They spent their married life on their farm north of Lanigan, where Mary worked side by side with Nick. Nick died in 1963 and shortly thereafter, Mary left the farm. For the last number of years, she had received nursing care at numerous facilities in Saskatoon. Mary, the last surviving member of her family, is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Nick Kokotylo and by two sisters and three brothers: Sophie Grymaloski, Cyril Paproski, Martin Paproski, Nellie Stadnichuk, and Bennie Paproski. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery. KOPPERUD - Aagoht Bernice passed away quietly in Harry Purdy Pavilion on Thursday, July 17, 2003 at the age of 89. Aagoht was born August 28, 1913 in Saskatoon and raised at Lanigan, Sask. She began her career as a schoolteacher in Sask. Following WWII she moved to Vancouver where she worked as the Assistant Treasurer with Gulf and Fraser Fishermen's Credit Union and the Vancouver Fishermen's Settlement Service before opening her own consulting business, Kopperud Income Tax Service, in 1972. Aag is survived by her twin brother Dion (wife Juanita) and sister Ruth Hillis (husband Dick) of California, her brother Herbert (wife Jean) of Lanigan and Walter of LeRoy, Saskatchewan; her nephews, Gerald, Garry and Clair Kopperud; her nieces, Margaret Faktor, Dianne Bartel, Lynne Blair, Joyce Holland, Florence Parohl, Gail Hanson, Connie Dickson and Donna Porten; as well as her many great-nephews, nieces and godchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Edith Clifford; brother-in-law Fred, and sisters-in-law, Alice (husband Dion) and Irene (husband Walter). KOPPERUD - Herbert (January 7, 1918 - March 14, 2013). Herb Kopperud died peacefully, at Lanigan Hospital, on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 95 years of age. He was born on January 7, 1918, to Iver and Augusta (nee Ahlien) Kopperud on their farm northwest of Lanigan. He grew up there and attended Sydenham and Lanigan Schools, completing Grade 8. Some of his earliest employment included selling encyclopedias, being a Fuller Brush salesman, trapping, helping his dad with the construction of buildings, and working in the mine at Flin Flon. Herb enjoyed hunting, curling, fishing, playing cards, music, and dancing, with the old time waltz being his favourite dance. Herb was called up to the Canadian Armed Forces in 1942, serving his country in England, Belgium, Germany, and Holland. On February 16, 1946, Herb married Jean Cooper in Saskatoon, SK. Following their marriage and Herb's discharge from the army, Herb and Jean lived on the Anderson farm, which was located between the Kopperud and Cooper home places. They lived for a short time with Herb's parents-in-law, Jesse and Ella Cooper, before relocating in 1948 to the Kopperud home place, where they farmed for many years. Throughout their years on the farm, Herb continued to build houses during the winter months. The farm, which remains in the family, was home to their five daughters. In 1972, Herb and Jean moved into Lanigan. They purchased the Hi-Way Confectionery and ran it for a year-and-a-half before relocating to Guernsey, where they owned and operated the Red and White Store. In 1976, they returned to Lanigan to retire. Over the years, Herb was actively involved in community associations. He was a member of Knox United Church, councillor for the R.M. of Wolverine #340, a member of the Delwood Fish and Game Club, and a Life member of the Royal Canadian Legion (Lanigan Branch #143). In all areas of his life, Herb was always willing to give a helping hand wherever and whenever needed. In his leisure time, Herb loved using his carpentry skills to make and repair many items for his children, grandchildren, and friends. Along with his love of curling, Herb also played ball and hockey, and at one time was a very talented boxer. His love of animals was evident to all he knew and he had a special fondness for dogs and horses. He was also an avid gardener and all-around "Mr. Fix It". Herb had strong ties to the past, especially with people that he grew up or shared similar interests with. He did like to live in the moment, however, and certainly was a life-long learner, with an eye on the future. Hunting and fishing excursions with family and friends were not just leisure activities for Herb. They were scheduled events, with harvest and seeding needing to be completed so he could enjoy them. As well, he and Jean loved to travel, frequently visiting family and friends. They wintered in Victoria, BC for many years. In 2002, due to Jean's deteriorating health, she and Herb moved to St. Volodymyr Manor in Saskatoon where Jean was able to receive the on-going medical attention she required. Following Jean's death, Herb made his home in Lanigan once more. He resided there until 2011, when he moved to Caleb Village in Humboldt. In late 2012, failing health necessitated a move into Humboldt Hospital. He remained there until mid January, when he was moved to Lanigan Hospital, where he lived until his passing. Shortly after noon on Wednesday, January 6, 2010, Alvin Krahn of Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan, moved to his eternal home in heaven. His death occurred at Lanigan Hospital at the age of 78 years. Alvin is lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Helga (nee Boldt) Krahn of Lanigan; and by their three sons and their families: Lyle (Dori) Krahn of Saskatoon and children Chad and Jacey; Pastor Aubrey (Eileen) Krahn of Winnipeg, MB, and children Aaron and Michael; and Randy Krahn of Saskatoon. Interment will follow at Lanigan Public Cemetery. LEGGOTT - Grace Isabella (nee Kirkness) was born on August 21st, 1915 on a small farm North of Lanigan. She had an older brother Anson, a younger brother Bill and one younger sister Eva. Her mother passed away when she was 7 years old. She grew up with very humble beginnings. She went to Elmsville School which the building is still situated North of town. The first day of school she fell off the wagon and broke her collar bone, therefore she started using her left hand. She took further schooling in Lanigan. She won an Art Award. Grace started working as a hired girl for several people in the community including the Paproski�s and the Elliots who both had twins. She met Harold at a country school dance. They got married on November 5th, 1938 and lived on a farm South East of Lanigan. They enjoyed years of square dancing with friends. They had many fun visits with friends. They had a family of five: Thomas, Luella, Isabel, Irene and Nancy. Grace loved living on the farm raising not only her children but chickens, turkeys, cats, dogs and also milked cows. She loved her big garden and grew potatoes, raspberries, strawberries, & rhubarb which led to lots of canning, making pickles and preserves. Many of these were sold in town which paid for the groceries for her family. The children�s birthday parties consisted of her freshly home made buns with egg salad or salmon; and a cake with money, buttons or rings inside. These parties were also enjoyed by all the neighbours around the Harold Leggott farm! If you came for a visit it was never a bit of trouble for her to prepare a meal. You were always welcome! An annual family trip to Waskesiu was made. Grace was a loving care-giver to her mother-in-law for many years. Her faith was always important in her life and the children were baptized, attended Sunday School regularly and confirmed at the Lanigan Knox United Church. The children grew up and left home. Each one had to have their Grade 12 plus a secondary education of their choice. Grace worked at the Lanigan Hospital for 12 years, then baby sat children for several years. Harold and Grace moved to town in December 1972 and lived on Vetsholme Drive where they totally enjoyed their neighbours! She continued with her big garden and apple trees with Harold giving her a hand. After 40 years of marriage they went on their first honeymoon trip to Hawaii. That led to many more trips to the Islands over the years and it was truly their favourite place to vacation! They also travelled in the States, BC, AB, MB as well as had many camping trips with friends in SK. Grace�s father wanted her to keep in touch with the Scottish and English relatives, which she did, with many letters back and forth over the sea which led to several visits. Grace took each daughter along with her for a two week visit. Her last big trip was to Jamaica for her granddaughters wedding at the age of 95 and she thoroughly enjoyed going on a gondola! Her hobbies were quilting, knitting, taking lots of pictures, keeping her diary and photo albums up to date. Loving her many flowers she kept lots of house plants. Harold passed away December 1999 and Grace continued in her own home until December 4th, 2013 when she became a Resident of Central Parkland Lodge until her passing on July 21st, 2015 - exactly one month prior to her being 100 years old. She told Irene "I made my deadline!" Irene asked "what deadline?" She said "100 yrs. old" and she then told Irene "you�re slipping!" Isabel spent time curling her hair on her visits & taking her to a lot of great functions. Mom enjoyed Lue�s visits and they talked about the twin granddaughters! Grace had spent the last weekend in the hospital having tests. Upon her return to the Lodge on Monday July 20th she was in such a good mood & thought it was her birthday. Nancy visited in the afternoon and was asked by her mother "When do you work next?" Nancy replied "tomorrow" and her mother looked at her with a disgusted look and said but tomorrow is my birthday! Being the 21st (of July) she thought she had reached her goal - so in her mind she had made it and God called this loving woman home! LEFFLER - Annabelle Lorraine (nee KLein) Schmaus Leffler. After a long courageous battle with cancer the family is sad to announce that Annabelle Lorraine Leffler, 57 years, of Lanigan passed away peacefully with her family at her side at Lanigan Hospital on Wednesday, November 10, 2010. The sudden and unexpected death of Ivor Daniel LeVesconte, 75 years of Lanigan, occurred at the Lanigan Hospital on Wednesday, July 7, 2010. Ivor was born on November 8, 1934 in Calgary to Daniel and Iris (nee Tucker) LeVesconte. He grew up and attended school there. Following his education, he apprenticed as a machinist and diesel mechanic with the CPR. On December 17, 1954, Ivor married Norma Cooke at Innisfail, AB. They lived in both Calgary and Innisfail for a number of years and then moved to Victoria where Ivor joined the Canadian Navy. They lived there for 10 years, moving to Lanigan in December of 1967. Ivor began work as a mechanic at the Alwinsal Potash Mine, which later became PCS Lanigan. He retired from his position of Mine General Superintendent in 1999. Always one to keep busy, Ivor now had more time to do the things he enjoyed. He especially enjoyed photography, hunting and fishing. Their time spent fishing at Tobin Lake and their summers at Thunder Rapids Lodge, were among his most favorite. Ivor kept busy in his garage workshop, doing machining work as well as gunsmithing. He was always up for a challenge and loved to help others figure out and complete their projects. Ivor will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 55 years, Norma LeVesconte of Lanigan; their three children: Claire (Murray) Gibney of Lanigan; Lois LeVesconte (David Nixon) and Alan (Liliana) LeVesconte, all of Edmonton, AB; eight grandchildren; and three very special great grandchildren: Rhett, Alec and Maegan; sister, Yvonne (Ken) Arkley of Calgary, AB; sisters-in-law: Marion LeVesconte of Calgary and Pat LeVesconte of Lanigan; and by Gil (Mavis) Leechee of Calgary; as well as a large extended family. MARTIN - Marion Johnston (nee Mackey) of Richmond died September 13, 2005 and is survived by her son Terrence, three grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was born in 1910 in Lanigan, Saskatchewan, the second of six children of Robert George Mackey from Peterborough and Mary Johnston of Kingston. She lived in Dauphin and Winnipeg in Manitoba before retiring to British Columbia after 1970 with her husband, Richard McGregor Martin who died in 1984. A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 17 at 1:00 in Valley View Gardens on 72nd Avenue in Surrey. MAZURKEWICH - Eleanor Florence (nee Pratt), December 25, 1939 - September 20, 2008. It is with our deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Eleanor Florence Mazurkewich of Lanigan, SK on Saturday, September 20, 2008. She lost her battle with cancer and is lovingly remembered by her husband, Jim of ten years; her son, Ken (Melanie) Sparks; daughter, Tanya Otto (Rob Gingera); stepsons, Clinton (Melanie) Mazurkewich, Calvin (Michelle) Mazurkewich, Clayton (Theresa) Mazurkewich, Clark Mazurkewich and Curtis Mazurkewich; grandchildren, Dalton Sparks and Alexandre Sparks; step-grandchildren, Meaghan, Mitchell, Darnel and Dallas Mazurkewich. She is also survived and remembered by brothers, Mel (Penny) Pratt, Irv (Presilla) Pratt, John (Nancy) Pratt; sister, Darlene (Gary) Fisher and foster sister, Dallas (Lyle) McGowan. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by both her parents, Hannah and Wilfred Pratt. She had so many friends that loved her dearly, too many to mention. McCONNELL - Katherine "Doady". July 29, 1914 - September 22, 2008. Katherine passed away peacefully at Stensrud Lodge at the age of 94 years. Katherine is survived by her children, Norm; Ken (Myrna); Mal (Alana) and their children, Calvin, Kim, Ryan and Dustin; Ron (Dianne) and their children, Ken and Rob; Joan (Bruce) Bouthillette and their children, Allison, Michelle and Brad; twelve great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Katherine was predeceased by her husband, Ken "Shorty" and her three sisters, Flora, Mary and Joan. Katherine was born in Humboldt, SK in 1914 and married Ken in 1942 where they farmed in the Lanigan area. They relocated to Viscount where they raised their family until Ken's passing in 1965. Katherine and children then moved to Saskatoon where she enjoyed gardening, music and devoted most of her time to her children. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 26th at 11:00 a.m. from St. Martin's United Church. Interment to follow at Lanigan Cemetery. McDONALD - David Kieth. The death of Mr. David Kieth McDonald, 57 years of Lanigan, occurred on Friday, March 9, 2012 at Pasqua Hospital, Regina. Kieth was born on September 6, 1954 to Fred and Irene (nee Humphrey) McDonald at Kindersley. He grew up at Coleville and attended elementary school there. Later, his family moved to Kindersley where Kieth took his high school education. Following his graduation, he attended SIAST in Moose Jaw, becoming a journeyman electrician. On September 2, 1978, Kieth married Kathy Klein in Kindersley. Over the next 14 years, they lived in various locations and Kieth worked at a number of different jobs. They moved to their present home in Lanigan in 1992 when Kieth obtained a job at Poundmaker. In 2001, he made a move to PCS, Lanigan Division, where he was still employed. Over the years, Kieth was active in his community as a member of the Lions club, and by serving on the executive of both the golf club and the curling club. Kieth enjoyed camping and loved to play golf. He was a sports enthusiast, watching most sports on TV and cheering on the Lanigan Pirates down at the arena. Kieth and Kathy liked to escape the Saskatchewan winters, taking many warm weather vacations over the years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his two little granddaughters, Morgyn and Layla, held a special place in his heart. Kieth will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 33 years, Kathy McDonald of Lanigan; their two sons and two granddaughters, Ryan (Lynn) McDonald and daughter Morgyn; and Chad McDonald (Kali Bourhis) and daughter Layla, all of Regina; two brothers and one sister and their families, Warren (Carol) McDonald and family Laura and Shawn of Saskatoon; Hilda (Randy) Baraniuk of Martensville and family Jaime (Wade) Adam and children Grace and Brynn of Fort St. John, BC and Jackie (Jason) Schell and children Payton and Keegan of Wilkie; and Lorne (Paulette) McDonald and son Matt of Chestermere, AB; and by members of the Klein family. The interment will follow in St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Cemetery, Sinnett. MEARS - Samuel "Tom" passed away on November 24, 2007 at the age of 73 years. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Mary; and his daughters, Laura (Perry) Bryksa, Cheryl (Chad) Sinclair and Tammy (Darren) Bowey. He will also be greatly missed by his eight grandchildren, Skylar, Evan, Aaron, Tyson, Dana, Wyatt, Veronica and Devin. Tom is also survived by his two brothers, Jerry (Madeline), Bob (Linda); and one sister, Margaret (Ed); as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and special friends. Tom was predeceased by his parents, James and Mae Mears; brothers, Bill, Joe, Charlie; and sisters, Sarah and Shirley. There will be no funeral service and a celebration of Tom's life will be held on December 8th in Lanigan. MICHAILISHIN - Olga Michailishin widow of Peter Michailishin of Lanigan passed away on Saturday October 18, 2008 at Regina General Hospital. She was 83 years of age. Olga (nee Leciuk) Michailishin was born August 20, 1925 at Ituna, Saskatchewan, a daughter of Katherine (nee Kowalyk) and Nick Leciuk. Olga attended File Hills School. On April 23, 1951 she obtained her Certified Nursing Assistant diploma from the Province of Ontario. Olga met the love of her life Peter an immigrant from the Ukraine, they were united in marriage on July 12, 1951 at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Ituna. Olga & Peter lived and worked many years in Thunder Bay, Ontario. They were very active in the church, volunteer and political organizations. Olga took a hair dressing course, cake decorating and an oil painting class, as well she was very involved in catering for their church. In 1997 they moved from Thunder Bay to Lanigan, Sk. Where they purchased a home for their final retirement years. Olga had lived a good, active life until just the past couple of months when her health started to fail. At the end of September she moved to the nursing home at Strasbourg. Olga passed away on Saturday October 18, 2008 at Regina General Hospital. She was 83 years of age. Olga was predeceased by her husband Peter, her parents Nick & Katherine Leciuk, her sisters and their husbands: Lena and Fred Shewchuk, Sophie & Jake Unger and her Brother Bill Leciuk. MUNRO - Iona Isabel (nee Murray) McConnell Munro (February 11, 1921 - May 28, 2012). The death of Mrs. Iona Isabel Munro aged 91 years, formerly of Yorkton and Lanigan occurred at the Lucky Lake Primary Care Home on Monday, May 28, 2012. Iona was predeceased by parents, Daisy and Archibald Murray; first husband, Ivan McConnell; second husband, Arthur Munro; sister and brother-in-law Orma and Walter Murray; brother Lloyd Murray. The death of Mrs. Anne (nee Huculak) Nakoneshny of St. Joseph's Nursing Home, Saskatoon, (and formerly of Lanigan), occurred at her residence on Friday, August 10, 2007. She was 93 years of age and the last surviving member of her generation in the Huculak family. NAKONESHNY - Nellie (nee Kieltyka). Nellie's family is sad to announce that she passed away on June 2, 2011 at the Lanigan Hospital. She had been surrounded by loving family for the past several weeks, and has gone to join her husband, the best man I ever knew, Bill, who died on September 9, 2005 and her daughter, Marj Burrows who passed away on April 18, 2001. Nellie was so very proud of her 19 grandchildren and her 29 greatgrandchildren and they loved her very much. The only surviving family member of her generation is her sister-in-law, Elise (Nakoneshny) Bilow of Winnipeg. Nellie was born in post-WWI Wyszatyce, Poland on October 21, 1921 to Bartholomew and Mary (Kucherepa) Kieltyka. The family immigrated to Canada in 1925 and Nellie grew up in the Kuroki area. She became a teacher at Manresa School, north of Lanigan where she met her future husband and she married Bill Nakoneshny in 1943. They farmed in the Elmsville district where they had eight children, and they retired into Lanigan in 1973. Her Catholic faith was very important to her and Nellie was a builder and a life-long supporter of the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic parish. Once they moved into Lanigan, St. Mary's parish became her spiritual home. Nellie was predeceased by her parents: Mary in 1952 and Bartholomew in 1953, her sisters and their husbands: Anna and Steve Halmo, Marie Prendergast and Lee and Art Willick and the in-laws on Bill's side of the family: his parents: Peter and Agatha Nakoneshny, John (Anne), Anne (Paul) Nakonechny, Fred, Mike (Anne), Sr. Sylvia, SSMI, Steve (Margaret), Henry (Helen), Emily (Steve) Worobec, Sr. Melanie, SSMI and Walter Bilow, husband of Elise. NORTHCOTT - Myrtle (nee Costella) Northcott passed away peacefully with her family at her side on September 5, 2009 at the Melfort Hospital. She was born on the family farm near Lanigan, Saskatchewan on January 1, 1912 to Edith (nee Switzer) and Truman Costella. Her father passed away when she was 7 years old. In 1926, she moved to Melfort with her Mother and older brother Bill, where she finished her schooling. She was later employed at the Melfort Creamery. On October 19, 1938, she married Elmore Northcott and they started their life together on the farm north of Melfort. When they built their new home in 1949, she was thrilled with all the modern conveniences like running water, electricity and indoor plumbing. In 1982, they moved to Melfort and semi-retired. Her interest in the farm never wavered right up till a few days before she passed away, still wondering if the boys were happy with their crop. Elmore and Myrtle moved into Elk Pointe condo in 1995 and enjoyed the company of many of their old friends and made some very good new friends. In December, 2007, she moved to Assisted Living where she received wonderful care by a compassionate staff until she was hospitalized a week before she passed away. Myrtle spent many enjoyable hours quilting, on her own and with her friends. She also enjoyed making numerous pairs of mitts, afghans and needlework pictures. She took great pride in her yard, growing a large garden and planting many beautiful flowers. Her community was important to her. She was a longtime member of the Stoney Creek Community Club and Co-op Guild. She was also a life member of the Melfort Agricultural Society, the Rebekah Lodge and the United Church Women. Myrtle was predeceased by her parents, her brother Bill and her husband Elmore in 2000. She is survived by her sons, Dale (Irma) and Wayne, granddaughters Susan (Lanny) White of Sherwood Park and Sherri (Derrick) Hauser of Calgary. Her great-grandchildren, Randi and Shelbi White and Cooper and Will Hauser brought her great joy. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Frances Northcott and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services for the late Myrtle Northcott were held from the Melfort United Church on Sept. 9 with Gwendolyn Mills Wood officiating. Randi and Shelbi White were at the memorial register. The United Church choir, pianist Andrew Elian and soloist Lynne Monsees supplied the music for the service. Pallbearers were Ted Rickbeil, Allan Hurd, Murray Dickie, Jack Moulton, Lanny White and Derrick Hauser. Interment took place at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. NOVECOSKY - Lena (nee Halayko) was born on Wednesday, November 8, 1939, to Peter and Ann (nee Gryba) Halayko at Shell River, MB. She grew up there and attended Zelina District School. Following her education, Lena began working as a nursing assistant in various places. On April 17, 1971, she married Allan McLean. They resided in Lanigan, and Lena resumed her career there for 25 years. She was also very active with the church and the community. Throughout her life, Lena pursued a number of hobbies and interests, including quilting, needlework, petit point, cross stitch, painting, gardening, golfing and fishing. In addition, she and Allan enjoyed travelling within Canada and the United States, and spent many summers at Fishing Lake. One of Lena�s greatest passions was hummingbirds; she had feeders everywhere, and numerous hummingbird plates adorned her house. Lena passed away Saturday, February 27th, 2016. Lena will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband of nearly 45 years, Allan McLean; daughter Bonnie Jackson and her children, Tyler Jackson and Nathan Jackson; son Ricky Tarasoff and his daughter Amy; four sisters: Ann (Orest) Antonation, Ollie (Chris) Huppertz, Jeanie (Bill) Montgomery, and Patsy (Everett) Paul; sister-in-law, Audrey; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Clarissia was predeceased by her loving husband Louie, her parents John and Mildred Sinnett, and her brother Jerry and his wife Edna Sinnett. Mom was born in Sinnett, SK, she graduated from nursing in Humboldt with The Sisters of St. Elizabeth. She worked as a nurse in Rosthern for two years and she left to marry Dad in 1937. Mom and Dad remained in Sinnett to run the general store and the Western Grain elevator for a few years and they continued farming until 1967. Mom worked as nurse in Leroy, SK starting in 1960 until they retired from farm life and moved to Saskatoon. There Mom worked at St's Anne's Nursing Home until her retirement at age 65. She loved working with the Sisters there along with Mr. and Mrs. Lawn who were dear friends to both her and Dad. After she retired she became a home body and she enjoyed spending time and playing cards with family. In between these visits she was an avid hockey (Montreal) and baseball (Toronto) fan. She never missed watching her sports. Mom was a quiet and gentle lady with a beautiful smile who loved her family deeply and who had a deep and abiding faith in God. The family wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr A. J. Harrington and all the staff at Porteous Lodge for their care and compassion shown to Mom. As well to Sandi's friend Carolyn Wellman who was with Mom when she passed away. PRANGE - Alvin 1922 - 2004. Alvin Prange of Calgary passed away at the Foothills Hospital into the presence of God on Sunday, January 18, 2004 at the age of 81 years. Alvin was born and raised near Lanigan, SK where he farmed before moving to Calgary in 1957. He worked as a gardener at Currie Barracks for twenty-four years where he meticulously tended the many flowerbeds, grounds and greenhouse. He enjoyed his work and retired in 1986. PURCHA - Sophie Purcha, beloved wife of John Purcha of Kelliher passed away on Monday, November 5, 2001 at St. Joseph's Integrated Health Care Facility in Lestock. She was 77 years of age. Sophie Purcha was born on February 17, 1924 at Lanigan, Saskatchewan; a daughter of Steve and Mary (nee Trzcinski) Skorlatowski. She was raised on the family farm and received her schooling in the district. On November 11, 1941 she was united in marriage to John Purcha at Sinnet, Saskatchewan, near Lanigan. The couple resided in the Lanigan area for a couple of years before moving to the Kelliher district. John and Sophie settled in the White Eagle district, where they farmed and raised their family of four children. In 1991 the couple semi-retired from farming and moved into Kelliher. Although they lived in town, John and Sophie still were very much involved in the farm for many years after. This year marked their 60th wedding anniversary. Sophie had a very congenial personality, she greatly enjoyed the company of her family, and she cherished her grandchildren dearly. She was always concerned for their well being. No one ever left Sophie's home hungry or empty handed. Even the day before she died she was concerned that one of the boys would take some carrots home for themselves. Even though she had health problems, she kept a positive outlook with a strong determination. In younger years she had been active in church activities, especially in the White Eagle district. She dearly loved the years spent on the farm, tending to her large garden and caring for the animals. Predeceased by brothers Casmer (1938) and Mike (1963), sisters Mary Teplyske (1992) and Stella Komada (1979); she leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband John; three sons, Carl (Marilyn) of Calgary, Eugene (Margaret) of Kelliher and Leo (Santina) of Calgary; a daughter Dianne (Arnold) Kish of Leross; grandchildren, Cindy, Hillary, Julie, Derek, Darren and Regina; a great grandson Brandon; three brothers, Victor Skorlatowski of Saskatoon, John (Hope) of Lanigan and Joe (Julia) of Lanigan; two sisters, Annie Gerylo of Selkirk, MB and Jenny Prebushewski of Birsay, SK; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and her many other relatives and friends. In loving memory of Wilhelm (Bill) Rudolf Rath (August 26, 1929 - October 22, 2008) With heavy hearts we announce his passing at the Wynyard Union Hospital on October 22, 2008, with his wife; his children, and grandchildren by his side. Bill was born in Lanigan grew up on the family farm and went to Horton school a few miles down the road and then to Balfour Tech in Regina (where he learned to dance!). The death of Mr. Horst Rauscher, of Saskatoon, SK (formerly of Lanigan), occurred at St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon on Thursday, October 25, 2007. Horst was born on July 21, 1940 to Karl and Rosa (nee Tobisch) Rauscher in Fischern, Germany. After completing his Grade 8 education in Schotten, Horst enrolled in a four-year course at a trade school where he attained his certificate as an electrician. On April 22, 1962 Horst married Margarete Barth and they immigrated to Canada in 1967. Initially they resided in Nokomis and then relocated to Lanigan in 1968. He began his career at the Alwinsal Potash Mine, now known as the Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan (Lanigan Division). He bagan as an electrician and then advanced to hoist supervisor, until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and the Dellwood Fish and Game Club. Horst had a passion for the outdoors, fishing and hunting with his best buddies, Dennis, Fritz, Ray and Norman. A man with a great sense of humor, he never ran out of stories to tell, especially while sitting around the campfire. Horst is survived by his wife of 45 years, Margarete (nee Barth) Rauscher of Saskatoon; daughter, Michaela (Don) Stratuliak of Winnnipeg, MB and grandson Nicholas; son, Andreas Rauscher (fiancee Heather Kerr) of Moose Jaw; and sister, Edeltraud Knaup of Germany. Interment will take place at a later date. REDEKOPP - Lawrence Adolph Redekopp passed away Apr. 23, 1998 from a heart attack. He was born July 24, 1923 to Abram and Justina Redekopp near Kelstern, Sask. At 14, he accepted Christ; he was baptized Aug. 17, 1941, joining Elim MB Church. He went to Bible school in Herbert, Sask. 3 years and then 1 year in Three Hills, Alta. After high school, he went to Normal School in Moose Jaw, Sask. He taught public school at Greenfarm, Sask. for 2 years. He married Martha Klassen Apr. 14, 1949. In 1950 he entered a children's ministry in Swift Current, Sask.; he was ordained in 1953 and continued to serve 3 more years. He was pastor of West Portal MB Church, Saskatoon for 7 years and director of Saskatchewan MB church extension for 10 years. He served on various committees and boards in the Saskatchewan and Canadian MB conferences. He pastored a new church in Lanigan, Sask. 1972-85, seeing the Lord work in many lives and experiencing great blessings. In 1986 he suffered a heart attack. He then went into part-time ministry, helping churches for short periods. He constantly marvelled at God's goodness and faithfulness in his own life. Predeceased by 1 sister and 4 brothers, he is mourned by Martha; children Cal, Wayne and Elwood, all of Saskatoon, and Barbara Karelse of Pickering, Ont.; 9 grandchildren; 5 brothers and 3 sisters. Cemetery in the Burr district. SENKO - Mary J. (nee Tkaczyk). The death of Mrs. Mary J. Senko of the Burr district occurred at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, on Thursday, May 14, 2009. She was 81 years of age. Mary will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her four children: Sylvester (Karen) Senko of Lanigan; Bernard Senko of Lanigan; Marilyn (Glen) Dunne of Langham; and Wilfred Senko of Lanigan; and by daughter-in-law, Brenda Senko of Lanigan. SHEWCHUK - Marvin Shewchuk, 74 years of Lanigan, SK passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Humboldt District Hospital, following a battle with cancer. Marvin was born on March 1, 1936 in Thorsby, AB to Metro and Mary (nee Onufrek) Shewchuk. He attended school in Thorsby and then went to work at an early age. Marvin worked in the construction industry, as a taxi driver, a miner, a heavy duty mechanic, and a safety supervisor. Even after retiring, he continued to work at several jobs, including his own business. Throughout his career, Marvin was a volunteer fireman, fire chief, mine rescue, mine rescue coach/coordinator, and a local and provincial mine rescue competition judge. He also worked consulting at McArthur River Uranium Mine. Throughout the years, Marvin lived and worked in various locations including, Edmonton, Port Radium, Uranium City, Saskatoon and Lanigan. In 1997, Marvin retired from Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan. Both Marvin and Joan loved to watch their children and grandchildren play sports and will always be known for driving all over the province to watch them. He also loved working in his shop building various projects for special occasions and to give as gifts. Marvin was always ready to help out anyone in need. Marvin will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Joan (nee Lyke) Shewchuk; daughter, Rhoda (James) Hein; and son, Gary (Mona) Shewchuk; three grandchildren, Wesley, Wade and Jeffrey Hein and one great grandson, Ryan Hein. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Tonhauser and her daughters, Dana and Carla; and sister-in-law, Eleanor Shewchuk and her daughters, Karen and Colleen. Marvin was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Metro Shewchuk; sister, Anne Bidniak; brother, Mike Shewchuk; brother in infancy, Steve Shewchuk and sister in infancy, Emily Shewchuk. SHIELDS - Hilda (nee Slater) Shields April 8, 1921 - May 4, 2013. Hilda died peacefully in her sleep at Regina General Hospital following a short illness. Hilda was born on a farm at Pheasant Forks, Sask., to Albert and Helen Slater. She was raised in Lanigan and moved to Regina to work. Through her cousin Alice Cresswell, she met William Paterson Shields. They were married in 1947 and had two daughters, Barbara (Earl) Hjelte and Carol (Don) Stamp. She loved her grandchildren, Penny, Janie, Marcee (Jason Graves), Tyler Stamp, and her great-grandchild Charlie. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends at Lake Village, Nokomis, Florida, and College Park Retirement Residence. Special thanks to her friend Bev Novenski and nieces, Marion Hingston and Audrey (Trevor) Cook. She will be laid to rest beside her husband Bill (deceased 1993) in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. SHILOFF - George (February 8, 1949 - April 30, 2014). George was born in Brandon, MB to Alexander and Minnie (nee Powshik) Shiloff. He grew up and attended school there. George met Fay Wildeman when she moved to Brandon to work and they were married on November 4, 1972. They moved to Vancouver for a couple of years where George worked as a landscaper and gardener. George and Fay then moved to her hometown of Lanigan where he became employed at PCS Lanigan. He became a Millwright and worked there until retiring in 2010. George was very involved in the community, acting in Lanigan�s first Dinner Theater, being a member of the Lions Club and Toastmasters, helping with Air Cadets, and goal judging for the Lanigan Pirates games in the old rink. He was also a volunteer with the ambulance and one of the first trained EMT�s in Lanigan. In the past few years, George had been involved with the Lanigan and District Heritage Center. He enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening, growing a big potato patch each year. He enjoyed the outdoors, with hunting, fishing and camping being among his favourite activities. Since retiring, George and Fay have enjoyed RV�ing and traveling around the world. He liked music and was an Elvis fan, greatly enjoying their trip to Memphis and the tours of Graceland. George will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years, Fay Shiloff, their three children and four grandchildren: Holly (Jeff) Srochenski and children Trinity and Quinn of Lanigan, Cory (Kelsey) Shiloff and children Alexis and Klay of North Battleford, and Jason Shiloff of Saskatoon; four sisters and one brother: Margaret (Claude) Thiffeault, Patsy (Bill) Halliday and Olive Mein, all of Brandon, MB, Alice (Mike) Campbell of Calgary, AB and Fred (Yvonne) Shiloff of Qualicum Beach, BC; parents-in-law, Ruth and Alfred Wildeman of Lanigan; and in-laws: Fern (Vern) Keil of Esterhazy and Sylvia Tkach (Greg Dubetz) of Saskatoon; and numerous nieces and nephews. SIERMACHESKY - Neddia (nee Krevinsky) Siermachesky born May 14, 1925 late of Port Alberni passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at the age of 79 years. Predeceased by her parents Moses and Kathleen Krevinsky, her loving husband Nick in 1983; sisters Ann Rich, Marion Ferguson, and Sylvia Blum; she is survived by sons Ted (Pam)of Victoria, and Maurice (Joan) of Port Alberni; grandchildren Neil and Elise Siermachesky; sisters Verna Herman of Florida, U.S.A, Elsie Shewchuk (Steve) of Port Alberni; brothers Alex Krevinsky of Michigan, USA, and Mike Krevinsky (Ruby) of Port Alberni. Neddia was born in Lanigan, Saskatchewan. She later married Nick and after a couple of brief moves they made their way west to Port Alberni in 1949 where the Alberni Valley would become their new home. She worked hard all her life at various jobs in the community but first and foremost she raised a family. She was a founding member of St. John's Ukrainian Catholic Church as well as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was an In Home caregiver for over 30 years, a volunteer with Handy Cope, active at Echo Centre as well as helping with bazaars, and bake sales. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. SIMINGTON - Isabelle (nee Rodger) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the age of 89 years. Isabelle was born on November 14, 1922 in Lanigan, SK, the only daughter of Mowat and Margaret Rodger. She is predeceased by her parents and husband Graham. Isabelle will be lovingly remembered by her two sons Roger of Calgary, AB and Gordon (Bev) of Regina, SK; two grandchildren, Trevor of Regina, SK and Tyler of Yorkton, SK; one niece Gaylynn (Lou) Bouvier of Moose Jaw, SK; two nephews Erroll (Ruth) of Saskatoon, SK and Jerry (Linda) of Medicine Hat, AB. Isabelle spent her early years in Duval, SK moving to Kincaid, SK with her family in 1942 where she met and married her husband Graham Simington. They farmed until 1976 and in 1983 they moved to Swift Current, SK. After Graham's death Isabelle moved to Regina where she resided until her passing. Darold Sauer officiating. SKORLATOWSKI - Sandra Kim. The death of Sandra Kim Skorlatowski, of Lanigan, occurred at the Lanigan Hospital on Tuesday, October 16, 2007. She was 49 years of age. Sandra is survived by her loving husband, Frank Bartel, her two sons, Jesse Skorlatowski and Dallas Bartel; and her step-son, Ryan (Amanda) Bartel and by her parents, John and Hope (nee Kelly) Skorlatowski of Lanigan. Interment will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. SKORLATOWSKI - Victor Wolford Skorlatowski passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 1, 2005 at his residence in Saskatoon. Victor was born April 11, 1917 in Lanigan, SK. Left to mourn his passing are his daughter Delores (George) Olson, his sons Steve (Ann) and Eugene (Joanne), ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, two brothers Joseph and John, two sisters Annie Geryld and Jenny Prebushewshi, many nieces and nephews. Victor was predeceased by his wife Lillian, parents Steve and Mary, three brothers and five sisters. Victor was a long time employee of Gulf Oil. He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors and camping. He was a hard working man who made sure his family was well taken care of. He was very much loved and will be thoroughly missed by all his family. Victor was able to spend his final years in the home he and Lillian raised their family in. Many thanks to the family members for their love and care towards him but most especially to his grandson Robin Skorlatowski, who lived with him and was his main caregiver in his last two years. The family would like to thank Saskatoon Home Care nursing staff for their care and compassion they have shown. A special thanks to Elsie and Caroline. At Victor's request there will be no services. His wish was to be cremated. SLATER - Clarence Bayne Slater passed away on Good Friday, April 6, 2012, at Sherbrooke Community Centre in Saskatoon. He was born at Lanigan, Saskatchewan on August 13, 1928, the fourth son and the sixth child of seven born to Albert Henry and Helen Morgan (nee Hannah) Slater. Clarence was predeceased by his brothers Edwin, Joe, and Ken and his sisters, Florence Hislop and Ethel Huculak. Clarence grew up on the farm at Lanigan where he remained until 1961 when the farm was sold. From 1961 to 1968, he ran a mobile feed business but his first love was always farming. From 1968 to 1971, Clarence farmed at Nokomis. After graduating from a two year course in Vocational Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon in 1972, Clarence began a thirteen year career with the University of Saskatchewan, first in the Crop Science Department, then with the Crop Development Centre and finally as Farm Manager for the Goodale Farm at Floral, Saskatchewan. In 1985, Clarence took on a temporary position with Agriculture Canada in Saskatoon to help with the harvest which stretched into ten years of doing the practical part of the farm work for the research station. Clarence was an active member of the United Church all his life and spent many years as a choir member and a board member in various capacities. In 1990, he began a theatrical career with St. Paul's Dinner Theatre which lasted for thirteen years. For more than twenty years, he enjoyed annual trips to visit his brother, Joe, on Vancouver Island and in 1997, was able to visit the birthplace of his mother in Fife, Scotland and of his father in Derbyshire, England. Camping with the Rambling Rovers from 1994 to 2003 and working on constructing a park at his son's acreage at Gruenthal, Saskatchewan were other favoured retirement activities. Clarence leaves to mourn his passing his wife of fortyfive years, Rosemary, and three children, Moira (Mark) Willems, Margaret (Ward) Slater-Johnson and David (Nicole) Slater. He also leaves five grandchildren, Jaron (Bridgette) Willems, Micah Willems, Megan Johnson, Alexondra and Kallista Slater and three great-grandsons, Zach, Jubal and Elijah Willems. As well, he is survived by one sister, Hilda Shields, a sister-in-law, Sylvia Slater, a brother-in-law, Jack Hislop, and nieces and nephews. Later he farmed and raised his family in Sexsmith, Alberta. Upon retirement he resided in Creston, BC and Florida. Two years age he moved to Regina. Mamie lived in Regina, SK for many years and also had her next pride and joy Demi. Her final destination that she called home was in Lanigan, SK where she had finally found her love Murray. Mamie was finally happy, she loved to cook, go for walks, and listening to music and dancing her heart out was her favourite. But most importantly her biggest accomplishments in her life were her daughters Nina and Demi. She made sure they always knew how much she loved them. A Celebration of Mamie's life will be held at Guernsey Hall, Guernsey, SK on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. SPUZAK - June Eleanor, age 83, passed away peacefully with her son at her side, at Royal University Hospital on Wednesday, July 18th, 2012. June is remembered by her son, Alan; sisters, Arloa (Roland) Marsh and Janice (Ian) Attfield all of Lanigan. June was born on June 17th, 1929 in Lanigan. She completed 12 years of school in Lanigan and entered the school of nursing program at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon, graduating in 1950 as an RN. She later was accepted at the Psychiatric Nurse Training School in North Battleford and graduated in 1951 as a Psychiatric Nurse. During her working years, June worked at many hospitals in Saskatchewan. In 1956 she married Arnold Spuzak of Wynyard and they had one son, Alan. June was intelligent, an avid reader, and had a terrific sense of humor. She loved "nice" things ie. dishes, ornaments, plates which are still displayed in her home today. June had a great love for animals and was a huge supporter of the SPCA. Her two cats Conrad and Charlie will surely miss her! STANIEC - Heather Lynn Staniec passed away unexpectedly, for reasons unknown, on October 10, 2008 at her home in Saskatoon, SK. Heather's ever-present smile will be missed by everyone who knew her, including her parents, Walter and Janice Staniec; sisters, Kim (Mike) Riel and Jillian Staniec (Brian Gallaway); half sister Catherine Kubash of Edmonton; a nephew, Ryder Riel and a niece, Caelan Riel; Grandpa Bert Price; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Heather was born May 5, 1977 and spent her childhood on a farm near Lanigan, SK. After completing high school, she attended the Way to Work program at SIAST Kelsey. Through the course she gained employment at ToysRUs, a perfect fit given her love of toys, and she continued to work there until her passing. About a year ago, with the support of the Partners In Employment agency, she began working at Bonanza Steakhouse as well, which she enjoyed very much. Heather enjoyed her work and the people she worked with and she also very much enjoyed earning money. She loved to shop and always checked the sale flyers to help find the best deals on whatever her latest interest or need was. Heather enjoyed many activities and had many hobbies. Growing up she was involved in her church, dance, TaeKwonDo, Girl Guides and various school activities. She joined Special Olympics, first in Humboldt and later in Saskatoon. She participated in Track and Field, Powerlifting, Floor Hockey, Bowling, Soccer and Swimming. Special Olympics was a very important part of Heather's life. She met many friends through her involvement in the organization, she travelled to other communities and provinces for training camps and competitions, she gained self confidence; and she had a lot of fun. Heather was a fan of all things Disney, particularly Tigger, loved doing word searches and enjoyed gloating when she whooped Uncle Joe's butt in Wii bowling. Heather liked watching Rider games with family, although admittedly her main interest was Gainer. She was also a country music fan - to say she owned countless CD's is an understatement - and she attended many of the concerts that came to town. Heather also enjoyed going to movies, sometimes with her carehome family, most often with her mom. Heather enjoyed family vacations to Alberta, South Dakota, Disneyworld, Mexico, Cuba and most recently Waskesiu. She had just started scrapbooking and her first pages were pictures of her nephew and niece, Ryder and Caelan and her brother, Jonathan (deceased). Heather is predeceased by her brother, Jonathan Staniec; Aunt Betty Thoen; Uncle John Staniec (in infancy); grandparents, John and Mary Staniec; Grandma Rae Price; and her godmother, Agnes Bernauer. Services for Heather were held October 16 in Saskatoon and Humboldt, and October 17 in Lanigan. Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lanigan, beside her brother, Jonathan and Aunt Betty, with Auntie Agnes close by. Arrangements for the services were handled by Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel of Humboldt, with assistance from the Saskatoon Funeral Home. STANIEC - Vincent (November 1, 1941 - October 17, 2013). The death of Vince Staniec of the Lanigan district, SK, occurred at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, SK, on Thursday, October 17, 2013. He was 71 years of age. Vince was born in Humboldt hospital on November 1, 1941. He lived on the family farm in the Sinnett district his whole life � first in the original house and then in a home constructed in 1955. He attended school at Valleyfield and continued at Loyola in Sinnett, where by all accounts he drove the nuns crazy. Despite earning excellent grades, he chose to leave school after completing Grade Eight. He said that school was for the dumb people and he had no time for it. He farmed for many years raising cattle, crops, chickens, pigs, and at least one billy goat. As he wound down his farming operations, he found enjoyment in helping out others wherever he could. All the fun of farming with a bit less stress. Vince was a founding member of the Father Sinnett Council of the Knights of Columbus, and at the time of his death was a Councillor for the R.M. of LeRoy. He really enjoyed getting out fishing, whether it was in the summer or ice fishing in the winter. He also enjoyed curling, especially the fellowship after (and during) the games and attended as many bonspiels as he could. Vince sure enjoyed having his nieces and nephews stop by to visit. There was always a treat for them, either a snack or some cash - sometimes both!! Everyone who went to an auction sale expected to see Vincent there. He insisted the deals he got were too good to pass up and some day all this stuff would be needed and used, or at least worth lots more than he paid for it. He may have been right as his own auction sale a year ago was more successful than initially expected. He loved having people stop by to play cards or cribbage, or would travel to the neighbours for much of the same and frequent visits to the casinos, usually with Bertie, helped keep him busy. He will be very much missed by everyone who knew him. For over 40 years Adeline was the office manager of Forbes Anderson Press where she developed many long term relationships with people in the business community. Shortly after Adeline was born, she and her parents moved to Lanigan. At the outbreak of the war she met and married Carl and they set up their first home at the Dafoe air base. When Carl was shipped overseas Adeline and her infant son moved to Carl's home town of Conestoga, Ontario to await Carl's return from the war. After Carl's return, Adeline and Carl moved back to Saskatchewan and settled in Regina where they raised their young family and made many friends through their involvement in church and their joy of music. We wish to thank Janet and Doug Devitt as well as Ken Howard who were so supportive of mom during her last years. TEMPEL - Barbara Eileen (nee Paul), July 7, 1953 - December 8, 2009. After a courageous battle with cancer, the family is very saddened to announce that Mrs. Barbara Tempel passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Lanigan Hospital on Tuesday, December 8, 2009. Barbara was born on July 7, 1953 in Regina, SK to Donald and Lois (nee Campbell) Paul. She attended Bethune, Lumsden and Lanigan Schools. It was in Lanigan that Barbara fell in love with a certain fast car a Mustang which happened to be driven by the love of her life, Robert Tempel. They soon were wed in Bethune, SK on July 31, 1971. Together they began their life in Lanigan and raised a family of three. Barb worked for many years at the Lanigan Post Office. The hard working lady that she was, gave her the tenacity to purchase a fast food restaurant named Burger Haven. This restaurant was known for the best fried chicken, a recipe only she knew and wouldn't share with anyone. After the closure of her restaurant, she accepted employment in Humboldt at the Saan store and later went on to the Dairy Queen. Barbara thoroughly enjoyed her position at the DQ and was considered to be the best worker. Barb was a very social person, she was always kind and willing to help someone out and always with a smile. Barb was a very talented person, not only could she make the best fried chicken; her cinnamon buns were rated as #1. Barb was also a talented seamstress. She created many items for her family including a suit for Bob, a wedding dress for her daughter and numerous bridesmaid dresses. Together as a family they enjoyed camping and fishing. Barb would always manage to catch the big one! Spending time with family was always important to Barb. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. TKACH - Robert Harold. It is with profound sadness that the family of Robert "Rob " Harold Tkach of Lanigan announces his tragic accidental death on Sunday, September 7, 2008, at Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan, Lanigan Division. He was 60 years of age. Rob was born on October 5, 1947, to William and Emily (nee Troian) Tkach at Prince Albert. A very educated and well-read man, he loved to read, especially books or articles pertaining to his favorite interests, vehicles and his occupation as a millwright, a career he really loved. Rob also enjoyed drag racing, music, watching his daughter dance, cooking, particularly on the barbeque, and gardening. He was very artistic and had a "green thumb ", traits that were evident in his well-kept and manicured yard, especially his stunning flower beds. Other characteristics Rob possessed included punctuality, gentleness, polite assertiveness when expressing his opinion, and how he always found the good in everyone. In addition, he had a soft spot in his heart for animals. The major priority in his life was his children, for whom Rob had an unconditional love. He was fiercely protective of them and, no matter what, he always had time to talk to them. His genuine care, laughter, good sense of humor, and joviality will be sorely missed by all who knew him. The death of Mrs. Vivian Tkaczyk of Lanigan occurred at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, on Tuesday, March 3, 2009. She was 71 years of age. Vivian will be lovingly remembered by her husband of over 50 years, William Bill Tkaczyk of Lanigan; and by their six children: Terry Tkaczyk of Borden; Carol (Dennis) Neugebauer of Jansen; Pat (Gail) Tkaczyk of Lodgepole, AB; Paulette (Terry) Pryma of Aberdeen; Fred Tkaczyk of St. Albert, AB; and Lori (Karl) Carmen of Calgary, AB. Gib was born on January 4, 1940 to Victor and Venice Todd at Elie, MB. He spent his early childhood at the Roy family farm in Elie before moving to Bethany, MB. It was here that he met the love of his life, Diane Outhwaite. Gib and Diane were married on July 25, 1964 in Justice, MB and began their early married life living in Carberry and Estevan before settling in Lanigan in 1967. At Lanigan, Gib worked for North America Lumber before finding employment as an Industrial Mechanic at PCS Lanigan, a job he held for over 20 years. During his time at PCS Gib became involved with the union, serving the Energy and Chemical Workers Union Local 922 for over 15 years. Gib's passion for the labour movement led him to obtain his GED and then convocate from the U of S in 1990 with a certificate in Labour Studies. Shortly after, he became a rep for the Communication, Energy and Paperworkers Union and Gib and Diane relocated to Calgary for the next 11 years. In 2004, Gib and Diane returned to Saskatoon. Gib retired in October 2005, enjoying his newfound freedom and taking the time to enjoy his family and pursue his passions and interests. Gib passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon on Sunday, November 4, 2007 surrounded by the love of his family. Helen passed away on 27 March, 2006, after suffering a stroke. She was born near Lanigan, SK and came to Calgary in 1953. She was predeceased by her husband Ralph; bowling buddy and companion, Jim Parker; and siblings, Leonard, Arthur, Elsie, Alvin and Ada. She is survived by her brother Elmer, and many nieces and nephews. A talented ball player in her youth, she and Ralph enjoyed camping and were avid hunters. In her later years she took up bowling, playing in many leagues. While living in Shalem Court she loved a good game of shuffleboard and cribbage. She was a long-time member of Good Companions. USHER - Richard "Dick" William Harry Usher, 96 years, of Lanigan died peacefully at Lanigan Union Hospital on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 surrounded by his family. Dick was born on March 11, 1918 in Lewisham, England to Harry James Usher and Mary (Nan) Ann (nee Llang) Usher. Dick won many scholarships at school and after attending the University College London became a scientist and trained as a teacher which he remained at heart. He was a brilliant mathematician and all his children have experienced his love of teaching. In 1941 he joined the RAF and flew night fighters and night intruder missions in Beaufighters and Mosquitos including cover for D-Day as part of a special group. Although a pilot he was assigned the job of navigator due to his phenomenal skills in maths and flew many dangerous and challenging missions eventually becoming an "Archangel Navigator". He married Kathleen O�Mara in 1941 in London, England and after creating a family of 5 children together she died in 1983. During their life together and after the war Dick first became a Navigational Instructor and Inspector training crews for planes and mapping the routes for commercial flights across the world. He worked for the UN in Indonesia initiating their airline system and then returned with his family to UK where he became operations manager for Heathrow and Manchester Airports before continuing his international career. What an incredible man but also a wonderful father passionate about making the world a better place being zealous in both his political views and interest in environmental conservation. In 1996 Dick married Susanne Rossen and had the incredible experience of being yet again a loving husband and father to her four children. Together they made a very happy family and together they adopted and also gave a loving home to Drew and Christopher. This man had a phenomenal presence, patient, caring and always committed to the welfare and love of his families. He was a unique, incredibly intelligent man who accepted everyone with open arms especially the less fortunate. He loved being surrounded by family and animals and the more people around him the happier he was. He remained committed to his vision of a better world and continued to work on alternative fuels and environmental issues up until his death. A vibrant larger than life individual who gave so much of himself to those around him and one that will remain our hearts for ever. After serving pastorates in Lanigan SK, Trowbridge ON, Amherstburg ON and Winnipeg MB, he assumed the Senior Ministry at Metropolitan, Edmonton AB (1949-59); Lakeview, Regina SK (1959-63); and Westminster, Winnipeg MB (1963-79). In his retirement, he served at St. John's, Winnipeg MB (1980-81) and Metropolitan, London ON (1981-89). Blessed with a keen intellect, an immense love of people, and a prodigious memory, Dr. Vipond became a very special minister and friend to many across the country. It is with sorrow that the family announces the death of Elton Howard Waldal of Lanigan, which occurred on September 10, 1999 at the Lanigan hospital following a brief battle with cancer. He was 72 years of age. Elton was born on April 15, 1927 near Lake Alma, SK where he attended school. He spent his early years farming in the Lake Alma area. On August 9, 1952, Elton married Ione Grosenick. They lived briefly in Regina prior to moving to Colgate in 1953 where he was the school janitor and a bus driver. In 1966 the family moved to Esterhazy where Elton worked on the construction of the potash mine. The family moved to Lanigan in 1969 where he began his career at PCS, Lanigan Division which lasted until his retirement from the position of mill maintenance supervisor in 1992. He then took on a number of different jobs as Elton was "a jack of all trades." Elton coached baseball, hockey and the family slowpitch team. He spent many enjoyable hours in his gardens and in his shop. He enjoyed playing cards, especially smear. He thrived on keeping busy and hated his illness for robbing him of his ability to do so. Elton was honest, direct and worked efficiently and quickly. His sense of humour was maintained until the end. Mary was born in the Ottawa area and as a teenager moved with her family to Lanigan, SK. There she married Cyril Warner in 1929, after which they made their home and raised their family in Saskatoon. They were active members in the Nazarene and Free Methodist churches. After retirement they lived in Vancouver, Yorkton and returned to Saskatoon. The Warner home was always a second home to many young people where there was always singing, fun, laughter and food. Mary played the piano as well as sang in trios with her sisters, Ruth and Gertrude at many church-related functions. In later life, she moved to Regina, to be close to her family. She always enjoyed gatherings with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. WARNER - Mervyn (February 24, 1930 - April 17, 2010). Merv passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Saskatoon, Sask. Left to mourn his loss are his loving wife, Jean (Clunie) of 55 1/2 years; brother, Earl (Pat) Warner; sister, Edna Doell; sister-in-law, Nellie Burgess; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Harry and Mae Warner; brother, Les and his wife Irene; sister, Dorothy Fettes and her husband, Harvey; sister, Evelyn Brown; brothers-in-law, Jim Byers, Mac Brown, Walter Doell, and Roy Burgess. Mervyn was born on the family farm in the Lanigan District and moved to Watson, SK. when he was 11 years old. Growing up in Watson was fun for Merv. He enjoyed school and the activities that went with it. He played hockey, he curled, he enjoyed playing pool, and never missed a dance. The friendships from those high school years lasted a life time. Upon completion of high school, Merv began working for his brother-in-law Jim Byers at the Imperial Oil Bulk Station. He later became a full partner in the firm. This partnership lasted eight years. During this time, the Imperial Oil Service Station was purchased and operated under the name B. & W. Esso Service Station. In 1962, Merv bought out Jim and continued to operate both the Imperial Oil Bulk and the Esso Service Station for 14 years. He resigned from Imperial Oil Bulk in 1973 but continued to operate the Esso Service Station under the name of Merv Warner Enterprises for 17 years. During this time, a restaurant was added to the service station and Merv was an associate Ford dealer. This business was sold in July, 1978. Meanwhile, however, Merv managed to do many other things. The promotion of Watson and the welfare of this town were Merv's passions. He worked diligently for the betterment of the community. He served 18 years on the Watson Fire Brigade, 12 years as Fire Chief. He was the first president of the present Golf Club. Merv played hockey in the earlier years and refereed for the North Central Hockey League for 15 years. He was a charter member of the Watson Lions Club (the first president) and remained a member of the Lions for the rest of his life. He served as President of the Watson Curling Club, the Senior Hockey Club, and the Local School Board. He was an associate member of the Legion. He was Chairman of the Watson Union Hospital Board and the Chairman of the Quill Plains Lodge. Besides all this, he served 31 1/2 years on the Watson Town Council, 11 1/2 years as Mayor. After the sale of the Esso Service Station, Merv attended SIAST in Saskatoon. He attended a summer session law class at the University of Warwick in England. Merv and Jean traveled extensively and spent many months in Arizona and California. The lure of Watson and of business involvement was not to be denied. On February 3, 1982, Merv, with four partners, opened the Watson Motor Inn. He managed this for 21 years. Due to health concerns, it was necessary for Merv to retire to Saskatoon to be close to his doctors and hospital services. In the city, in spite of his poor health, he tried to contribute to the betterment of this community. He attended the Lions meetings and took part in their projects; he supported the Nutana Legion as best he could and he was the auditor for St. Paul's United Church for three years. Mervyn Warner accomplished much, but his greatest contributions were made through his kindness and generosity. He had the rare gifts of understanding and compassion. People came to Merv when they needed help in any way. These acts of kindness were done in private, with never a word said about them. May he rest in peace. WATSON - Melanie Mary (nee Paproski) passed away at Royal University Hospital on Monday, July 19, 2004. Melanie was born on August 23, 1951 in Lanigan, Saskatchewan. She moved to Saskatoon where she attended St. Michael's, Sion Academy and ED Feehan Collegiate. Melanie had a lifelong love of learning. She obtained a Library Technology Diploma, a Business Administration Certificate, Certificate in Adult Continuing Education; and most recently was employed by U of S College of Pharmacy, Continuing Education. She retired in January 2003 to spend time in Costa Rica. Among other activities, Melanie loved playing softball and more recently golf and tennis, she was artistic and creative, enjoyed drawing, painting, sewing, gardening. Melanie is survived by her husband of 35 years, Don; sons, Terry, Chad, Ryan and Daniel; brothers, Curtis (Carol Jean) Paproski, Dennis (Margaret) Paproski; sisters, Judy (Wes) Leikam and Tracy (Ted) Mortenson. She was predeceased by her father, Bennie Paproski in 1973; sister, Nancy Dutton in 1988; and her mother, Emma Paproski in 2003. Melanie will be greatly missed by family and friends. She will be remembered by the tremendous amount of love she gave to everything and everyone in her life. Very important to Melanie were her relationships with family and friends, always giving 100% towards them. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. A Memorial gathering to celebrate Melanie's life will be held at the Masonic Temple, 1021 Saskatchewan Crescent West, Saskatoon, SK on Friday, July 23, 2004 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Cremation. WATSON - Murray Douglas. July 11, 1956 - December 25, 2007. Murray passed away suddenly December 25, 2007 at his home in Lanigan, SK. He is survived by his two sons, Dustin and Trayton of Battleford, SK; three brothers, Robert (Helen) of Prince George, BC, Garry (Pat) of Prince George, BC, Gilbert (Diane) of Lanigan, SK; nephews, Robert, daughters, Stephanie, Brittenney and Melyssa of Prince George, BC; Jim (wife, Rollie) son, Christian (Brandon and Austin) of Prince George, BC; nieces, Tammy (Dean) Chapman and son, Kurtis of Airdrie, AB; Kim Watson of Fairview, AB; special friend, Kathy L'Heureux of Turtleford, SK. The passing of Mrs. Ivy Ida Whyte (nee Booker) age 88 years of Lanigan, Sk. occurred at the Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan, Sk. on Friday, May 5th, 2006. Ivy is survived by a sister, Vina Sepke of Allan SK, brother; Ivan (Grace) Booker, of Meadow Lake SK, nieces & nephews; Douglas (Kathy) Sepke of Allan SK, Darlene (Lance) Gunther of Lanigan SK, Ellen (Murray) Rettger of Coleville SK, Joyce (Craig) Trulsrud of Saskatoon SK, Lenard (Pam) Sepke of Saskatoon SK, Glen (Lynn) Booker of Prince Albert SK, and Garth (Leslie) Booker of Fort McMurray AB. Ivy was born on July 14th, 1917 to Charles and Ida Booker in the RM of Lost River (about 10 miles south of Bradwell, SK.) She grew up on the farm with a younger sister and brother. Ivy's working career was as a clerk in Regina at Peppers Drugstore and later at Northgate Woolco. She married Bob Whyte on June 11th, 1977 and moved to Shellmouth, MB, where she ran the post office from their home. Bob died on November 15th, 1989. Ivy moved soon after to Langenburg, SK where she lived until moving to Lanigan in June 2002. Ivy then moved into the Lanigan Care Home, June 14th, 2004. She was a great seamstress, and made at least one quilt for each of her nieces and nephews. One of her great loves was "Tammy" her pet poodle that Bob gave to her. Ivy had Tammy for 12 years and still misses her. She really loves "Charlie" the dog that makes Lanigan Care Home his second home. The Funeral Service will take place from Hillcrest Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 9th, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Last Supper Garden, Hillcrest Cemetery. WILDEMAN - Robert. It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Mr. Robert Alfred Wildeman 92 years, of Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan on Wednesday February 24, 2016. Alfred will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 69 years Ruth Wildeman of Lanigan; three daughters: Fern (Vern) Keil of Esterhazy, Fay Shiloff of Lanigan and Sylvia Tkach (Greg Dubetz) of Saskatoon; 11 grandchildren and 22 great- grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be at a later date. WILLIAMS - Ieuan, Taff as he was known to many, passed away peacefully with family by his side on April 18th, 2015 in Lanigan, SK. Ieuan was born on July 11, 1936 in Treorchy, South Wales to Phillip and Jane Williams. He married the love of his life, Heather Joan Holland on April 20, 1957. Ieuan started working in the coalmines of South Wales at the age of 15, where he received his journeyman electrician status. He then moved with his family to Weymouth, England where he worked at the Nuclear Power Plant. In 1968, seeking better opportunities for their family, Ieuan and Heather immigrated to Lanigan, SK, where Ieuan worked at the Potash Mine. Ieuan moved into management and stayed with the potash mine until his retirement. Ieuan was an incredible husband and a loving father and each of his grandchildren held a special place in his heart. Ieuan is lovingly remembered by his wife Heather, his children Julie Untereiner (Trent) and Michael Williams (Kathy) and his grandchildren Dustin (Shyla), Tessa (Brad), Caitlin, Meagan and Larissa and her daughter Chloe. We will all miss him, his funny stories, his bright blue eyes and impish sense of humour. In keeping with his wishes there will be no formal service. WILLIAMS - Thomas. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Tom on Tuesday, October 8, 2013. Tom was born on May 28, 1917, near Lanigan, SK. He is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary; brother, Jack in World War II and loving wife Phyllis (nee Williamson) of 45 years, in 1997. He is lovingly remembered by his son, Calvin; daughters, Marlene (Murray) Schmidt and Sharon (Larry) Kaminski; four grandchildren, Andrea, Lyndon, Charlie, Luke; brothers, Brian (Betty), Bob (Maxine), sister, Anne; numerous nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Gerda Williamson and long-time friend, Ruth. The highlight of Tom�s life was when he accepted the Lord as his personal Saviour at the age of 23 years. In his words, "His feet had never felt lighter." That same year (1940), he enlisted in the RCAF and served as a flight engineer air-gunner with postings in England, Scotland & lastly with 423 Squadron in Castle Archdale, Ireland until the war ended. Later he attended the Canadian Bible College and was then employed as a maintenance engineer with the Regina Public School Board for twenty-eight years. Tom will always be remembered for his quick sense of humour, love of telling stories, hospitality, his love and concern for his family and last but not least for his passion to boldly share the message of the gospel that had changed his life, with anyone who would listen. The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff from 3-5 at the Wascana Veteran�s unit for their excellent care of Tom during his stay there. Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, October 11, 2013 at Regina Memorial Gardens. Memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m., Heritage Alliance Church, 3575 Hillsdale St. with Rev.
