ANDERSON - Morris Oscar. On Friday, May 28, 2004, Morris Oscar Anderson, late of Weyburn, passed away at the Weyburn General Hospital at the age of 78 years. Predeceased by his parents, Odell and Laura Anderson; daughter Dianne Paul; brothers Lloyd and Kenneth; and sister Edna Forsberg. Morris is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Doris; daughters Beverley (Steinar) Tangedal, Vivian Anderson (Neil Thompson), Kathy (Ron) Gagnon, Margaret (John) O'Connor; sons: Allan (Charlene) and Albert (Wei); son-in-law, John Paul; 19 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; sisters: Mamie Hanson, Betty Lou Lund, Eunice (Cecil) Goodwin, Laureen (Ed) Chymycz; brothers: Hilmer, Wesley, Laurel (Jo); and numerous nieces and nephews. Morris Oscar Anderson was born on the SE 1/4 of Sec. 9, Rge. 17, Twp. 2 W2nd, near Lake Alma, on November 13, 1925. He was one of 11 children born to Odell and Laura Anderson. He took his schooling at Tree Lake and Sandoff schools, taking some high school by correspondence. He worked for various farmers, on the B&B Gang, for Burns Meat Packers of Edmonton, AB. On November 6, 1951, Morris and Doris (nee Hunstad) were married at the United Church manse in Radville. They spent their first winter working at Morecambe, AB, coming home in the spring and lived in Lake Alma where Morris worked for the R.M. grading roads. In 1952 they moved to his parents' farm, farming it until 1989, when they retired and moved to the Mang place, where they lived for 11 years. In the year 2000, Morris and Doris moved to Weyburn. Morris enjoyed fishing and collecting antiques, especially radios and gramophones. He loved going to auction sales where he would find his treasures. Another favorite pastime was bowling. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all he knew and loved. A memorial service was held Wednesday, June 2 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Peter Walker, officiating. Interment followed in Saron Cemetery, Lake Alma. Honorary pallbearers were all his grandchildren and great grandchildren. BACKLUN - Jason Allan Backlun was born to Vernon and Phyllis Backlun on July 30, 1972 in Estevan. After the untimely death of his father in 1974, he moved in with his mother, Phyllis and brother, Corey to Midale, where he spent most of his childhood years. He started school in Midale until moving to the farm after his mother's marriage to Gilbert Schroeder. He continued going to school in Halbrite, and went on to Weyburn and graduated from the Weyburn Comprehensive School. Jason loved the farm and was involved with 4-H for two years. He also had a love for small animals especially his beloved dog "Mackie" and "Emily" the miniature cow he bottle-fed from birth, which was 15 lb. at birth. He refused to let her die. Jason was married to Kendra Leptich and was blessed with two beautiful sons, Jordan and Coty. Jason was employed as a carpenter for majority of his life and taught his sons the finer art of carpentry building such as shelves and birdhouses. Jason was an outdoor person. He was an avid fisherman who could hardly wait for the ice to get thick enough to go ice fishing. He loved old-fashioned camping, which he did with his "Dad" Gilbert, Corey and Mom. Mom tended the camp while the men fished. Jason was born with a big heart and opened his home to many of Jordan's friends. Jordan Backlun will always remember working with his father, learning many things about carpentry, which will now carry him throughout life. "I love you Dad!" Coty will always remember Dad for being so funny. TaMaria will always remember the loving words of encouragement that "uncle" spoke to her when she was having tough days at school. "Never give up, keep on trying." Taylor will always remember making crafts with "uncle" at Christmas time to hang up while he was babysitting her. Brother, Corey will always miss Jason's big voice and hearty laugh. Jason was predeceased by his father, Vernon Backlun (July 5, 1974); grandparents, Violet Backlun, Edwin Jorde, Agnes Jorde and Julius Schroeder. Jason will be lovingly remembered by his precious sons, Jordan of Midale, and Coty of Kelowna, BC; loving mother, Phyllis Backlun-Schroeder of Midale; step "Dad", Gilbert Schroeder of Midale; brother and "best friend", Corey Backlun of Estevan; sister-in-law, Trudy Backlun of Estevan; special nieces, TaMaira and Taylor Backlun of Estevan; "Grandpa Eddy" Backlun of Weyburn; step-grandparents, Harry and Olga Forsberg of Weyburn; mother of his children, Kendra Leptich of Kelowna, BC; her parents, Lance and Monica Leptich of Kelowna; her grandparents, Albert and Helen Leptich of Kenosee Lake, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. The funeral service was held Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Midale, with Rev Donna Smalley officiating. Interment took place in St. John's Cemetery, Beaubier. The active pallbearers were Larry Mickel, Kirk LaMontagne, Danny Syrenne, Les Weger, Chris Dewtie and Rod Gust. The honorary pallbearers were, Steffany Weger, Treva Philliben, Jamie Dewtie, Shayne Beahm, Scott Stabenow, Ryan Brown and Dave Wager. BAILEY - Lavine Kristine (nee Jelsing) was born February 2, 1911, at Cole Harbor, North Dakota, but came to Saskatchewan with her parents and two sisters, as an infant. They homesteaded about ten kilometers west of Lake Alma. She attended Blooming School, which is now no more, and later taught there as well. She took her high school in Radville, her teacher training in Regina, and her first school was Norge, south of Ratcliffe. While attending school in Radville, she became affiliated with the Church of Christ, with which group she worked earnestly the rest of her life in mission fields, at home and abroad with her husband, Cecil T. Bailey, whom she married on June 5, 1935. Besides her many and varied religious activities, before, while, and after raising five children, two boys and three girls. Lavine taught school for 25 years. At the time of her death, August 11, 2003, they had 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. After 68 years of happy and exciting marriage, which included several years in India, as well as three visits to the Holy Land, Lavine's earthly tabernacle was laid to rest beside her parents, hard by the Blooming School, where she both taught and was taught. She is very close to her old homestead as well. From her childhood she has been adored by all those who knew her. And now she will be sorely missed by us all. Lavine was predeceased by her parents, Peter & Bergit Jelsing; two sisters: Signe MacLeod and Annie Clemetson; grandson, Titus Ward Muirhead and granddaughter, Rachel Michelle Hobbs. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Cecil T. Bailey; their children: Jelsing (Sheena) Bailey, Mary (William) Muirhead, Betty (Robert) Watts, Alice (Gary) Brown and Tommy (Jenna) Bailey and her grandchildren. Funeral service was held Monday, August 18, at 2:00 p.m. from the Church of Christ, Estevan, with Tim Pippus officiating. Active pallbearers were her grandsons: Andrew Bailey, Neil Bailey, Eric Bailey, Ian Muirhead, Michael Koops and Thomas Watts. Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters: Sheena Koops, Andrea Muirhead, Roberta Davis, Allison Cluderay, Kathlene Hobbs, Linda Brown and Charlene Schwebius. Interment followed in the Blooming Cemetery, Lake Alma. DAAE - Lilah was born on October 4, 1933 in Lake Alma, Sask. and went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 6, 2012 at the age of 79 years in Estevan, Sask. A celebration of Lilah's life will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Torquay, with Pastor Daniel Krauss officiating. Interment will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Torquay. Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 from 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. in the chapel of Hall Funeral Services, Estevan, as well as at the church prior to the service on Wednesday. DELONG - Albert William was born in Alkabo, North Dakota, to Ida and Rex DeLong on March 7, 1914, and passed away peacefully on April 28, 2013. He was the third of six children. At the age of six, Albert and his family moved to Canada in two covered wagons and settled near Lake Alma, Sask., where his parents homesteaded. Albert returned to the family farm in 1936 and in 1943, married Helen Przetocki. He farmed until his retirement in 1984. After Helen's death, he married Olga McAdam and resided in Ottawa where they shared many happy and active years together. Albert is survived by his children, Eleanor (Garry) Humphreys of Peterborough, ON; Lorraine (Les) Anderson of Prince Albert, SK, Gayle (Jim) Colson of Squamish, BC.; Eugene (Gisela) of Saskatoon, SK; and Carol (Luciano) Medinilla of San Diego, California; one sister, Inez Lund of Weyburn, SK, as well as seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family expresses a special thank you to Dr. Aaron Friggstad and the staff of the Circle Drive Special Care Home for the care and kindness our father received in his last years. DREFKO - Mary (nee Nenka). In loving memory of Mary Drefko, August 28, 1902 to June 5, 2000. Mary Drefko immigrated to Canada April 24, 1909 with her father, Oleksa, mother Natalka (Baharie) Nenka, and step sister Minnie Dedora. The family took residence at Woodridge, MB. Mary was the eldest sibling of seven boys and five girls. Mary was married to Peter Drefko on October 19, 1919 and resided at Drefko Lake, near Lake Alma, SK. They had ten children before moving to the Maxim area in 1935 and five more children were born at the Lee Smith property where they farmed grain, stock and fowl. Predeceased by her husband, Peter; son Paul; granddaughters, Roberta and Margaret Drefko; great granddaughter, Darcy Drefko; grandsons, Richard and Edward Kurek; granddaughter Julianna Kurek; grandsons George and William Ostafichuk; granddaughters Janie, Lily and Beverly Ostafichuk; great granddaughter Elaina Quesnell; daughter-in-law, Sherle Drefko; brothers, Peter, Paul, Tony, Steve, Mike and twin brother, John and Dimietro; step sister Minnie; sisters, Katherine, Barbara and Annie. She will be very dearly missed. Service was held at Holy Name Church, Radville, on Monday, June 12. EVERT - John Evert passed away on April 9, 2003 at the age of 84 years in Weyburn. He was predeceased by his father, John Evert in 1918, his mother, Hedwig Jacobson in 1973, step father, Joseph Jacobson in 1970, infant son, John Evert Jr. in 1961 and daughter-in-law, Patti Evert in 1991. John is survived by his wife and friend of 56 years, Mabel Evert; their children: Roger (Patricia) Evert, Brian (Teri) Evert, Neil (Brenda) Evert, Rena (Owen) Chantler, Dale Evert, Curtis (Johanna) Evert; his brothers: Lloyd Jacobson, Kenneth Jacobson Eugene Jacobson, Donald Jacobson; sister, Bernice Hoimyr; six granddaughters and five grandsons, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Prayers were said Friday, April 11 at 7:00 p.m. from the Fletcher Funeral Chapel with Mary Ann Seitz as Lay Presider. Funeral mass was held on Saturday, April 12 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church with Father Albert Schmitz, Celebrant. All in attendance were considered honorary pallbearers. Interment followed in the Beaubier Cemetery, Beaubier FONSTAD - Megan Marie (nee Roysum), passed away at the Galloway Health Centre in Oxbow, on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at the age of 28, with her family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on September 14, 1983 to Garnet and Elaine Roysum and was the youngest of three children and the only girl. Megan went to Elementary School in Lake Alma and later moved to Gladmar School, where she graduated in 2001. Megan went on to the University of Regina to become a teacher, a vocation she was truly meant for. She was wonderful with all students and teachers. In 2003 she met James, the love of her life, and moved to Oxbow where she got a teaching job. In 2005, James and Megan were married. In 2007 they were blessed with Olivia Joy, and later in 2009 another daughter Kaybree Hope. In 2011, their son Gabriel Liam Von came into the world shortly after Megan was diagnosed with cancer and now rests in the arms of Jesus with his mother. Megan fought valiantly and lived her last earthly days to the fullest. She remained an optimistic fighter all the while enduring difficult treatments. She appreciated her friends and family to the very fullest and cherished bedtime stories, snuggles from her little ones, and coffee dates with friends. She was predeceased by her grandpas Leo Hoffart and Omer Roysum; James� grandparents Pearl and Adolph Grismrud, and Martin Fonstad, and her precious baby boy Gabriel. Megan is survived by her loving husband, James Fonstad and two beautiful girls, Olivia Joy and Kaybree Hope; her parents, Garnet and Elaine Roysum; two brothers Cory (Cherie) Roysum (and their children Cheyanne, Jens & Ty) and Shane (Lindsay) Roysum (and their children Mya and Kason); James� parents Ron and Gail Fonstad; sister-in-law Michelle Fonstad (Jamie Sutherland); brothers-in-law: Blaine Fonstad and Scott Fonstad; grandmothers Ida Hoffart, Lorraine Roysum, and Joyce Fonstad; also numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Interment took place at the Overland Cemetery. FORSBERG - Agnes, late of Weyburn, formerly of Lake Alma, passed away in Weyburn, SK at the age of 94 years. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 22, 2002 at 2:30 p.m. from Saron Lutheran Church in Lake Alma, SK. with Pastor Virgil Anderson officiating. Interment to follow at Overland Cemetery, Lake Alma FUHRO - Veranica (nee Herlick). On Friday, December 17, 1999 Veranica Fuhro, late of Lake Alma, SK, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 64 years. She was predeceased by her parents Anton and Mary Herlick. Veranica is survived by her husband Elmer, children Marjory (Steve) of New Zealand, Kevin (Laurie) of Regina, Louise of Fort Smith, N.W.T. and Martin (Heather) of Regina and her three grandchildren: James, Colin and Matthew Fuhro. She is also survived by sisters Anna (William) Koszman, Bertha (Ted) Koszman and brothers Frank (Christine) Herlick and Joe (Betty) Herlick, all of Tribune, SK, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. As per Mom's wishes, a private family funeral will be held. Special thanks to the nurses of the Palliative Care Unit at the Pasqua Hospital. HANSEN - Evelyn Delores (nee Erickson). On Sept 2, 2008 after living life to the fullest and with her husband of over 57 years by her side, Evelyn passed peacefully into the arms of her Heavenly Father. She came into this world on May 26, 1924 the 4th of 8 children born to Elsie & Ray Erickson. Most of her childhood was spent on a farm South West of Lake Alma. At age 20, she moved with her dad & sisters to Modesto, CA. She remained in the U.S. until her marriage to Johnny in San Francisco on November 25, 1950. They returned to Saskatchewan the following March in the middle of a blizzard. In Evelyn's own words: "It was quite a change for me after living in California but when you love someone, you will go to the ends of the earth with them". Johnny & Evelyn farmed for over 40 years near Oungre and retired into Weyburn in 1993. Their home always had the welcome mat out & a full pot of coffee on. She liked nothing better than to be surrounded by family & friends - particularly those who enjoyed a rousing game of Skipbo! Evelyn's love for family & friends was surpassed only by her love for Christ and her life was a testimony to her faith. She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers - Raymond & Meryl Erickson, a sister Inez Long & her precious first grandson - Troy Hansen. Remaining to celebrate her life are her husband Johnny; their 5 children & spouses - Larry & Ellen Hansen, Rhonda & Ken Trueman, Lorna Hansen, Don & Esther Hansen, Joel & Lelia Hansen; 9 grandchildren - Sheri (Jeff) Raknerud, Clayton Hansen, Dana Barrand, Erin Barrand (Lance Roberts), Jeff Hansen, Andrew (Jessica) Hansen, Rebecca Hansen, John Hansen & Tanner Hansen; 1 great grandson - Kaden Raknerud; 3 sisters - Opal McCracken, Joyce Geesey, Norma (Paul) Bell; 1 brother - Don Black. Interment took place in Dravland Cemetery, Oungre. HANSON - Mamie Cecilia (nee Anderson) of Weyburn, formerly of Lake Alma, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2007. She was predeceased by her parents, Odell and Laura Anderson, husband, George Hanson, granddaughter, Taylor Hanson, son-in-law, Gordon Ashworth, along with brothers Ken, Lloyd and Morris and sisters Edna and Eunice. Mamie is survived by three sons, Lane (Fran) Hanson, Emery (Jean) Hanson and Steven (Marcy) Hanson. She is also survived by six daughters, Linda Hockley, Lorna Ashworth, Debra (Terry) Obst, Mona (Stuart) Bloor, Charlene (Eugene) Emberley and Wendy (Dan Sutherland) Hanson along with 23 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Mamie was born on September 11, 1918, the second of 11 children to Odell and Laura Anderson. She was raised at Lake Alma and worked for several families in the area. Mamie left the farm life for five years to work at Lake Louise, AB but returned to Lake Alma to help her parents with caring of the younger siblings and even help deliver her twin siblings. In December 1947 she married George Hanson. She and George raised a large family at Gladmar and later moved to a farm near Beaubier. Life on the farm was busy with raising a large family, working in the garden and yard, and milking the cows. The coffee pot was always on at the farm with lots of company stopping in for cake and coffee. In the 70's, Mamie managed the concession at Oungre Regional Park. She was well known for her delicious baking, especially her donuts. Shortly prior to the passing of George in 1976, they moved to Weyburn. She lived in her own house for a few years before moving into Legion Towers where she lived for 24 years. She had a unique gift for nurturing and was always there when someone needed her. She, above all, loved to have her grandchildren and great grandchildren near her. She was known as Grandma Mamie to many others as well. Before the decline in Mamie's health, family members and many friends were often the recipients of her delicious homemade donuts. Mamie had a very dear circle of friends at Legion Towers that were like family to her along with her dear sister, Betty. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo. During her ill health, they would come over to check on her to make sure she was eating. In April of this year, Mamie made the decision to move to the Weyburn Special Care Home. She was sad to leave her friends at the Tower but knew she needed more care and wanted to make it easier on her family. She suffered in silence, never complaining about her constant pain. She immediately was known by the staff at the Special Care Home as the lady that would never ask for help, even though she needed it. She always talked very highly of the staff and became a favorite resident to many staff in her short time there. Mamie will leave a great void in the lives of her family and friends but we all know she was ready to leave and is now free of her pain. The viewing was held on Tuesday, November 6, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn. Funeral service was held at Zion Lutheran Church on Wednesday, November 7, at 11:00 a.m. and lunch followed. The active pallbearers were her grandsons, Todd Hockley, Darren Hanson, Jarret Ashworth, Jeremy Ashworth, Jory Ashworth and Christopher Hanson. Honorary pallbearers were the staff at Weyburn Special Care Home and her dear friends at Legion Towers. Interment was at Saron Cemetery, Lake Alma. HESTAD - Leonard (July 20, 1918 - Nov 14, 2014) was predeceased by his parents Christian and Amelia Hestad, his four brothers and seven sisters, his first wife Edith (mom) in 1980, his second wife Lillian in 2008, daughter-in-law Brenda Hestad in 2000 and grandson Jason Hestad in 2005. He leaves to mourn his loving family: Lionel (Sandra) Hestad of Armstrong, BC, Glenda Hestad of Red Deer, AB and Brad Hestad of Castor, AB; grandchildren Melanie (Wes) Litt and their son Eamon of Calgary, Chris (Niesha) Hestad of Edmonton, Matt (Gillian) Hestad of Lethbridge, Emilea Clinton of Red Deer, Laynie Clinton of Chongqing, China, Jasmine (Kyle) Spraackman of Beaumont and Jeremy Hestad (Brittany Shaw) of Red Deer; as well as other family and friends. Leonard was born and raised on a farm near Lake Alma. After his parents died, at the age of 18, he assumed responsibility for the family farm and persevered through much adversity to make a living and support his family. He married Edith Slater on July 11, 1949. They had three children, Lionel, Glenda and Brad. They remained on the farm until 1975 at which time they retired to Estevan. Edith passed away in 1980. Leonard later married Lillian and spent many happy years travelling through Saskatchewan and to many other places. They lived in Estevan, Rose Valley and finally Weyburn. Leonard had numerous interests including trapping, hunting, fishing and taxidermy. He loved to dance and listen to and play �old time� music. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and playing cards. He liked to bake his own bread and making lefse was a tradition he lovingly shared with his children and grandchildren. His colourful stories and his sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. A memorial service will be held for Leonard on the prairies which he loved in the summer of 2015. HOFSETH - Ingmar Olaf Hofseth, 76 years, passed away peacefully at Weyburn General Hospital. He is survived by his wife Julie of Weyburn, and sons: Garry (Jean), three grandchildren: Corey (Melanie) of Regina, Jeremy, and Cindee of Ceylon; Neil (Donna), five grandchildren: Candace (Ian), Kyle, Andrew, Evan, and Jenna of Sundre, AB; Wade (Phyllis), one grandchild Tyler, of Regina. Born April 10, 1922 on the farm in Beaubier, SK delivered by Dr. Brown. He was an only child to Carl and Esther Hofseth. In 1924, his mother died when Ingmar was 2-1/2 years old. Then, Ingmar left with his grandmother, Selma Anderson, for the States and lived in Souris, North Dakota. In 1935 he came back to live with his dad, Carl Hofseth, at Beaubier. At Beaubier he was involved with farming for 52 years. In 1942 Ingmar was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and later married in 1948 to Julianna Illes. He drove the bombardier and school bus for some 37 years. His first school bus was a 1953 panel wagon which he had made and painted pink and white. When driving the bombardier Ingmar would perform mercy missions for people and take them to the doctor; he would do night runs to help people. He drove two generations of children and their children. He took an interest in these children. Ingmar's interests: motorcycles such as Indian, Harley Davidson and Honda later on; then automobiles such as Studebakers; John Deere tractors (even painting one red, the dealer purchased it back from him giving him another green John Deere, he again repainted the red one back to green). During the 60's he also did custom combining for neighbours. He was noted for his fondness for ice cream milkshakes. He enjoyed travelling with family and friends for most of his life seeing sites from Alaska to Guatemala, New York to Hawaii. Ingmar was loved by all his family and friends and will be sadly missed. A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 9 at 2:00 p.m. from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Weyburn, with Mr. Arnold Kozak officiating. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. Interment will follow at a later date in Beaubier cemetery. HOFSETH - Julianna (nee Illes) Hofseth, late of Weyburn, passed away Saturday September 22, 2012, at the age of 84 years. Julianna was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ingmar Hofseth; father, Joseph Illes; mother, Agnes Illes; infant brother, Arthur (1948); brother-in-law, Dave Olson; three sisters-in-law: Gail Illes, Carol Illes and Yolanda Illes. Julianna is survived by her three loving sons: Garry (Jean) Hofseth, Bengough, SK, Neil (Donna) Hofseth, Sundre, AB, Wade (Phyllis) Hofseth, Regina, SK; eight brothers and sisters: Joe (Carmen) Illes, Quetzaltenan, Guatemala, Ethel Olsen, Weyburn, Anne (Lorne) Vosper, Moose Jaw, Frank (Ruby) Illes, Salmon Arm, BC, John Illes, Lloydminster, AB, Mary (Alvin) Maiers, Kelowna, BC, Esther (Irvine) Gruenke, BarrHead, AB, Dave (Maureen) Illes, Obregon, Mexico; 11 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Julianna Hofseth was born on November 23, 1927 in Skorenovaci, Yugoslavia. In 1928, her father Joseph Illes came to Canada working as a labourer and bought a homestead in Saskatchewan in 1929. Julianna and her mother Agnes came to Canada in 1930. They arrived in Canada in July, travelling west by train to Hardy. In the early 1940�s, she took on a study of the Bible and became one of Jehovah�s Witnesses in 1942. In 1948, she then married Ingmar Hofseth and they resided in Beaubier, where they farmed and raised their three sons, Garry, Neil and Wade. In her retirement years they settled in Weyburn. Julianna loved and enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, quilting and travelling. Julianna was loved and will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends. A Service of Remembrance for Julianna was held Saturday, September 29, at 2:30 p.m. from Kingdom Hall of Jehovah�s Witnesses, Weyburn, with Mr. Arnold Kozak, officiating. Lunch was held following the Service at Captain�s Hall, 122-4th Street N.E., Weyburn. A private family interment was held at Beaubier Cemetery. HOIMYR - Alvern Claydeen Hoimyr, late of Lake Alma, passed away December 9, 2014, at the age of 87 years. Alvern was predeceased by his parents Albert and Gertie Hoimyr; brother Hollis (Bernice) Hoimyr; brothers-in-law: Roy Johnson, Gary Johnson, Peter Johnson; sister-in-law Alice Johnson. Alvern is survived by his wife of 67 years Pearl; son Lyle (Judy) Hoimyr and their children: Mark (Laura) Hoimyr [Anna and Jeremy], Tannis (Derek), Axten [Kate and Brock] Lee Ann (Ivan) Odland [Shawn, Tyler, Darren and Abby]; son Randy (Roberta) Hoimyr and their children: Jared and Kimberly; daughter Cheryl Hoimyr; son Wade (Melanie) Hoimyr and their children: Michelle and Wyatt; sisters: Donna (Marshall) Stainbrook and Delores Johnson; brother Glen (Yvonne) Hoimyr; brothers-in-law: Lawrence Johnson and Dennis Johnson; sister-in-law Elaine Johnson as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A memorial service for Alvern was held on Tuesday, December 16, at 1:00 p.m. from Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn, with Pastor Martin Olson, officiating. Lunch followed the service. Interment was held following the lunch at Saron Cemetery, Lake Alma. HOIMYR - Bernice Mae (nee Jacobson). On Sunday, January 13, 2008, Bernice Mae Hoimyr passed away in the Weyburn General Hospital at the age of 83 years. Predeceased by her mother and father, Hedwig and Joseph Jacobson; brothers, John Evert, Lloyd and Kenneth Jacobson; and by her husband, Hollis Hoimyr. Bernice will be lovingly remembered by her family: son, Darwin (Pat) Hoimyr of Carlyle, and their children, Travis (Mandie) Hoimyr and their family, Gavin and Mason; Melissa and Mikynzee; daughter, Cindy Hoimyr of Medicine Hat, AB and her children: Darla (Mike) Grasley and their child, Janessa; Aaron and Ashley; son, Kenton (Melanie) Hoimyr of Regina, and their children, Kyron, Mandee and Marcee; brothers: Eugene (Jeanette) Jacobson of Beaubier; Donald (Marie) Jacobson of Regina; sisters-in-law: Mable Evert of Weyburn, and Joyce Jacobson of Medicine Hat, AB; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Bernice Mae Jacobson was born May 31, 1924 at Tribune. She grew up on the farm near Oungre, Ratcliffe and Beaubier, with her five brothers: John Evert, Lloyd, Kenneth, Eugene and Donald and her parents, Joseph and Hedwig Jacobson. She attended Dravland School, Ratcliffe School and Velhaven School, earning her grade 10. In the early 40's she worked at Eaton's in Regina, Estevan grocery store, then cooked for her brothers in 1952. On May 9, 1953, Bernice married Hollis Hoimyr at Weyburn. They moved to Alberta in 1968, then back to Radville, in 1971 and finally to Weyburn in 1977. Bernice was a beautiful sewer, and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, paper tole, liquid needlepoint and did stained glass work. She was baptized in Regina in the early 1940's and was a member of the Church of Christ. Bernice enjoyed people and visiting with her friends. She loved her family, brothers, sisters-in-law, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She treasured times when family could get together. She will be deeply missed by all. Funeral service was held Wednesday, January 16, at 1:00 p.m. from the Church of Christ, Weyburn, with Scott Wade, Minister. Interment followed in St. John's Cemetery, Beaubier. Active pallbearers were: Lyle Jacobson, Dallas Jacobson, Kyron Hoimyr, Mike Grasley, Aaron Hoimyr and Travis Hoimyr. All in attendance were considered honorary pallbearers. HOIMYR - Hollis was born to Gertie and Albert Hoimyr in Lake Alma on September 19, 1923 the oldest of five chldren. He grew up on the farm and went to school up to Grade 12 in Lake Alma. On May 9, 1953 he married Bernice Mae Jacobson in Weyburn and they had three children: Darwin, Cindy and Kenton. Hollis farmed with his dad at Lake Alma, worked in an auto parts foundry in Ontario, was in the military, a draftsman for a survey crew building the Alaskan Highway, had a welding truck in Lake Alma, operated a bulk fuel truck in Lake Alma, owned the general store in Lake Alma and was postmaster in the post office in Lake Alma, Foremost, AB, Radville, Estevan and Weyburn. Hollis loved to create things and had a variety of hobbies and interests. He did wood carving and woodworking, upholstery and antique furniture, stained glass, remodeling houses, golfing, camping, fishing, traveling and computer. At the age of 70 Hollis bought himself a computer and started making cards, editing and printing digital pictures, he made the 2004 family calendar. Hollis was a deacon with the Weyburn Church of Christ. His family was always the most important part of his life and he continuously took great joy in selflessly sharing his talents and time. Hollis Jerome Hoimyr passed away on Friday, February 20, 2004 at the age of 80 years. He was predeceased by his parents Albert and Gertie Hoimyr. Hollis is survived by his wife of 50 years, Bernice of Weyburn; their children: Darwin (Pat) of Carlyle and their children: Travis and Melissa; Cindy Hoimyr of Medicine Hat, AB, and her children: Darla (Mike Grasley), Aaron and Ashley; Kenton (Melanie) and their children: Kyron, Mandee, Marcee; his brothers: Alvern (Pearl) Hoimyr of Lake Alma and Glen (Yvonne) Hoimyr of Kelowna, BC; his sisters: Delores (Roy) Johnson of Kelowna, BC and Donna (Marshall) Stainbrook of Regina as well as many nieces and nephew. Funeral service was held on Tuesday, February 24 at 1:00 p.m. from the Church of Christ with Scott Wade officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John's Cemetery, Beaubier. HRYCYSZYN - Peter was born in Poland in 1912. He had two older sisters, and two older brothers. The brothers were killed in 1939 and 1944 during the Second World War. He, himself was in the war and was held as a prisoner of war in Germany from 1939-45. After the war he came to Canada in 1948 and worked for the C. P. railroad, then relocated to Lake Alma where he settled in farming. He was very particular with his farm land, and very proud of his durum wheat when weather conditions were right. Peter never married, and because of this he was very set in his own ways. He was a very kind, honest man, who helped many people and in turn, they helped him. He was very thoughtful and concerned of others. When one of his friends were sick, he walked to check on him two to three times a day, until the end. Peter loved to visit and play cards at the Senior 50 Club where they bestowed him with an honorary life membership. Peter liked to travel and made trips to Poland, U.S.A. to visit his U.S. family, and was especially happy just to get in his truck and drive all over the country. During his many years in Lake Alma, Peter spent a lot of time with his sister, Aniela and Gus Oshust. He moved to the Golden Heritage in Radville where he spent three years, then to the Radville Marian Home, until his passing. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. HUNSTAD - Harold Arthur. On Friday May 21, 2010, Harold Arthur Hunstad passed away at the Radville Medical Health Centre at the age of 93 years. Harold was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Alma Hunstad, his brothers Leroy, Milo, Orries and Donald, his sisters Hilma Hunstad, Marie Throssell, Evelyn Hanning. Harold Arthur Hunstad was born on July 24, 1916 at the old homestead in the municipality of Lake Alma. He took his primary education at Pepper school. Harold married Gladys Brenholen on July 14, 1954 in Weyburn, with the reception being held at Colgate, SK. They started out their married life living in Lake Alma. Eventually Harold bought the George Olson farm. They raised their six children on the farm. In 1982 Harold and Gladys built a new house in Lake Alma. They sold their house in 2008 and moved into Radville at the Golden Heritage, where Gladys still resides. A Celebration of Harold�s life was held at the Lake Alma Free Lutheran Church, Lake Alma at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 29 with Pastor Jim Winter. JACOBSON - Joyce May (nee Janke) 1923 - 2010 of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Kenneth Rodeen Jacobson, passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at the age of 86 years. Joyce leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Dwight (Julie) Jacobson of Chestermere, Lyle (Joyce) Jacobson of Weyburn, and Lane (Avis) Jacobson of Lethbridge; two daughters, Gloria (Darryl) Kallis of Medicine Hat, and Glenda (Steve) Jacobs of Red Deer; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Ken (Bertha) Janke and Elroy (Karen) Janke; two sisters, Ethel (Orville) Barnstable and Dorothy Halcomb; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Torrie Janke; two brothers, Vernon and Gerald Janke; and one sister, Opal Nedlisky. Joyce's grandchildren and great grandchildren were the love of her life. She loved animals, horses, nature, camping and fishing. Joyce was strong in her faith. She enjoyed listening to music and travelling. Entertaining family and friends gave Joyce great pleasure. Joyce's love touched many people's lives and she will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered. JACOBSON - Kenneth Rodeen Jacobson, beloved husband of Joyce (nee Janke) of Red Deer, AB, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Red Deer Nursing Home on Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at the age of 81 years. Ken was born on November 12, 1922 at Tribune. He worked for the Department of Highways for 15 years but farming was the highlight of his life. Ken was very committed and very active in his church throughout his life, wherever his lived. He touched the hearts of many people, youth and adults alike with his gentle and loving personality. Ken will be deeply and sadly missed but lovingly remembered and forever cherished in the hearts of his family and dear friends. JOHNSON - Clarine Amali (nee Halverson) passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2002 at the age of 92 years. Clarine resided at Weyburn Special Care Home for six years up until her passing. Clarine was predeceased by her parents Herman and Ida Halverson; her husband Alger; one grandson Craig; six brothers and three sisters. Clarine will be lovingly remembered by her three sons Arthur (Marie) of Kallaly; Lawrence (Alice) of New Westminster, BC; Roy (Dolores) of Kelowna, BC; one daughter Elaine (George) Terry of Crossfield, AB; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two brothers, Alvin (Hazel) Halverson of Vancouver Island, Lawrence (Mae) Halverson of Calgary, AB; one sister, Lillian Hill of Vancouver, BC; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. JOHNSON - Estelle Alice (nee Waldal) passed on peacefully after a brief illness surrounded by her family, in Saskatoon, on Thursday, February 24, 2000. Estelle was born to a large family in Lake Alma, SK. She attended Teacher's College in Regina. It was during her teaching career in Lintlaw, SK that she met and married Melvin Johnson. They farmed together in Lintlaw before moving to Flin Flon for 13 years where they raised their five children. It was during these years Estelle became renowned for her reflexology. The family moved to Esterhazy and finally, Saskatoon, where Mel and Estelle have lived 31 years. Estelle loved her years on their acreage giving treatments, gardening, canning, baking, camping, fishing and taking care of her loving family who loved to visit and share many a cup of coffee over Scrabble and Smear. Estelle is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Melvin Johnson, her children, Sherry (Robert) of Toronto, Blaine (Yvonne) of Moose Jaw, Cameron (Roberta) of Battleford, Dixie of Saskatoon, and Randy (Janice) of Regina; and her much loved grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer, Kimberly (Randy), Luke (Dixie), Erika, David, Matthew and Andrew (Cameron), Jonathan (Blaine) and Thom (Sherry). She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Andrea; her father, Olaf Waldal; her mother, Anna Waldal (nee Vaksdal); four brothers, Joyce, Owen, Elton and Mervin; a sister in infancy; and her mother and father-in-law, Albert and Anna Johnson. JORDE - Agnes Rosina (nee Torkelson). On Friday, June 2, 2000, Agnes Rosina Jorde, late of Beautiful Plains Villa, Yellow Grass, passed away at the Weyburn General Hospital at the age of 90 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin Jorde in 1983; a son, Albert Jorde (1977); a daughter, Evelyn Torgunrud (1995); her parents, Harold and Rena Torkelson; son-in-law, Vernon Backlun (1974); one brother, Morris Torkelson; four sisters: Bessie Hillstead, Hazel Hultgren, Ruth Ryan and Marie Moffit; brothers-in-law: Ted Hillstead, Paul Hultgren and Tom Moffit. Agnes leaves to mourn her children: Doreen (Jim) Sheppard of Regina; Opal (Sonny) Claybo of Midale; Jeannette (Eugene) Jacobson of Beaubier; Ed (Gail) Jorde of Regina; and Phyllis (Gilbert) Backlun-Schroeder of Midale; 19 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson; one sister, Mabel (John) Evert of Weyburn; one daughter-in-law, Deloris Jorde of Weyburn; one son-in-law, Merlin Torgunrud of Weyburn; two brothers-in-law, Ole Ryan and John Evert; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Agnes and Edwin farmed in the Beaubier district for several years, then moved to Beaubier. After Edwin passed away, Agnes moved into Weyburn and lived there until her health failed. She then choose to join her sister, Marie, at the Beautiful Plains Villa in Yellow Grass. While in Beaubier, Agnes was very active in her church, and served as Treasurer for several years with the ELW. Agnes was a beautiful Christian lady who loved her family and friends dearly. She will be greatly missed by them. Funeral service was held at Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn, on June 6, with burial in the family plot at St. John's Cemetery, Beaubier, with Pastor Ron Bestvater and Pastor Martin Olson officiating. On Wednesday, December 8, 1999, Isabella Mary Ann Jorde, late of Radville, passed away at the Marian Health Centre, at the age of 93 years. Predeceased by her parents, Annie and Donald McPhederan; husband, Sven Jorde; four grandchildren: Diane Leatherdale, three Ellingson babies; great grandchildren: Trent Bouchard, Kevin Briltz, Natacha Kalenz (baby); two brothers: John and Duncan McPhederan; two sisters: Flora Noan and Catherine Elly. Isabella leaves to mourn her six daughters: Anne (Roy) Ellingson of Estevan; Irene Berg of Radville; Pearl Berger of Lake Alma; Alverna Berger of Radville; Clara (Earl) Ness of McTaggart; and Florelle (Richard) Stefan of North Battleford; one son, Ivan (Joanne) Jorde of Black Diamond, AB; one brother Donald McPhederan of Prince Albert; one sister-in-law, Agnes Jorde of Yellow Grass; 25 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and 36 great great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Isabella Mary Ann was born in Innary, Scotland on June 20, 1906 to Donald and Annie McPhederan. She came to Canada in 1911 with her mother, two brothers and one sister. Her dad had arrived in 1908 and filed on a homestead. She lived in the Overland District (south of Lake Alma) in a sod shack. A few years later, a lumber house was built. Isabella attended school at Overland School, walking the two miles, summer and winter. She attended church at Overland and in later years at Lake Alma Lutheran. On December 15, 1922 she married Sven Jorde and they farmed and raised a family of seven. She did not have things very easy as there were no pampers, washing machines, or fridges in those days. Isabella would often mention how, during the dry 30s, she would carry water from a spring a mile away. Isabella sewed all the girls' dresses. She would buy ten yards of one pattern (so there would be no waste) and all five of the older girls would have the same dress (which they weren't too happy with). In 1957 the family moved to Estevan, where Sven had a job as guard at the Boundary Dam. Isabella or "Bella" as she was called, worked in a cafe. There were only two left at home by this time, Florelle and Ivan. In 1961 they sold their land to Walter Pohle and bought a house in Lake Alma. There, Bella worked as a telephone operator until the office was taken out of Lake Alma. Sven passed away March 27, 1987 and Bella continued to live in Lake Alma until February 1992, when she entered the Marian Home in Radville. Isabella has 105 direct descendants - six daughters: Anne Ellingson, Irene Berg, Pearl Berger, Alverna Berger, Clara Ness, Florelle Stefan, and one son, Ivan Jorde; 25 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren; and 36 great great grandchildren. Funeral service was held Saturday, December 11 at 10:00 a.m. from Lake Alma Lutheran Church with Pastor Martin Olson officiating. Interment followed in Overland Cemetery, Lake Alma. KOSZMAN - Mark. We announce with great sorrow the passing of Mark Koszman on January 9, 2012 at the age of 28 years. Mark was born on July 12, 1983 to Trudy and David Koszman in Oxbow. He enjoyed his preschool years there with neighbour kids to play with and visits to grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. The move to McCreary, MB presented opportunities to check out the parklands and ski hill nearby. He made many lasting friendships in his elementary school years as well as his high school years in Neepawa, MB. After graduation from high school in 2001, Mark followed his dreams and went to Jasper to work and snowboard. He went back to school in 2005 and graduated at Assiniboine Community College with a Civil Engineering Technician Certificate. He later went on to complete a diploma in Geomatic Information Systems Technology at Red River College, in 2006. Mark worked in this field as a surveyor and advanced to a crew chief. He really enjoyed working outdoors. Mark will be remembered for his soft-hearted easy-going nature, energetic and fun-loving personality, his great sense of humor and passion for outdoor adventures. He enjoyed snowboarding, mountain biking, paintball, and spending time with friends and loved ones. Mark was predeceased by his grandparents Sylvia Petersen in 2001, Elmer Petersen in 2009, and Joe Janeczko in 2011; and step-father Floyd Clark in 2010. Mark will be lovingly remembered by parents Trudy Koszman (Weyburn); and David Koszman, partner Alice Unger (McCreary, MB); sisters Kim Koszman; and Natalie Styles, husband Dan Styles and children Austin and Samara; grandmother Ethel Koszman; girlfriend Nicole Kozak; aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and many friends. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. You will be in our hearts forever. LARSON - Harvey Emanuel Ferdinand Larson was born on the family farm (SE 24-3-16 W2) on July 20, 1918, the eighth child of Alfred and Anna Larson. His father died when Harvey was six months old, leaving his mother to raise Harvey along with seven siblings. Harvey attended the Greendale School. As a teenager Harvey worked on the family farm and in 1934 he worked for a farmer at Churchbridge. He also worked for Doug McCreath in 1935 at Beaubier. In the spring of 1937 Harvey took over the family farm and farmed til 1990. In the fall of 1959 he started operating the Co-op Seed Cleaning Plant in Weyburn. He received a 15 year plaque for dedicated service. On October 18, 1939 Harvey married Eleanor Christian of the Beaubier District, in Plentywood, Montana. They were married for 64 years and had a family of four children: Darlene, Sharon, Lorne and Allen. Harvey and Eleanor lived on the family farm for 20 years, moving to Weyburn in 1960 and to the Legion Towers in the spring of 2002. Harvey loved to work with the farm animals, especially horses. He enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels and he spent a lot of time working in the yard. Harvey also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Harvey went to the Imanuel Lutheran Church in the hills and was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. He had a Weyburn Red Wing Season tickets from the time it started until health reasons made it hard to attend the games. Family and grandchildren were important to Harvey. He especially enjoyed having the grandchildren on the farm, giving many lifetime lessons. Prayers were held Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. from the Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn, with Pastor Peter Walker officiating. Interment followed in the Beaubier Cemetery. LUND - Betty Lou (nee Anderson). Our mother, Betty Lou Lund, ended her courageous journey to her forever home on Friday, February 27, 2015. Her journey was blessedly short but she prepared her family, making sure she talked and calmed each one of them, leaving nothing unsaid. She was unafraid and peaceful and her only request - that we remember all of the fun stuff, love and take care of each other and be okay. Every time when asked, "How are you Betty?" her response was "I am okay as long as my kids are okay". Betty Lou was born November 18, 1930 at Lake Alma, the seventh child in a family of 11 to Odell and Laura Anderson. She loved where she grew up and remained so close to all her siblings and their families. It was wonderful to see the fun they had when they were together. She married Palmer Lund on June 25, 1949 living for a short time in Belle Plaine and Big Beaver before returning to Lake Alma to the Lund family farm, where mom became the true farm wife and helper. She did what was necessary on the farm as well as being involved in her community. She and dad raised us four kids there and mom taught us to make snow men and to see the beauty of falling snow, how to make little rivers in the mud from the spring melting snow, to love the sound of the meadowlarks and cooing mourning doves, to collect the changing tree leaves and see the beauty of migrating birds. Mom and dad moved to Weyburn in 1981 and she worked as a dietary aide at the Weyburn Hospital for 12 years. Dad suffered a stroke in 1996 and for four years mom was by his side. She moved to Legion Towers in 1997 and lived there until three months before her passing. Even though we all lived far away from her she took long summer holidays to visit us. She leaves to cherish her memory and words of wisdom daughter: Paulette (Gerald) Howard, their two sons Kip (Julie) Howard and family [Clare and Dylan], Corey (Tammy) Howard and family [Darcy (Cassie) and precious great great granddaughter Brooklyn] [Brenden and Kaitlyn]; daughter: Joanne (Iven) Jorde and their two children Kyle, Kristal (Scott) Garnier and family [Aiden and Emerson] daughter: Maureen Mack (Cliff Loeppky) and the father of her children Duane Mack and their children Chad, Ashley (Colin Campbell) and their daughter [Taytum] Melissa (Jesse Burgess) and their son [Paxton] son Blaine Lund (Sharon Soufflet); as well as sister Laureen (Ed Chymycz) and brothers: Hilmer Anderson, Wesley Anderson, and Laurel (Jo) Anderson; a very special aunt Hilda Anderson and three sisters-in-law: Doris Anderson, Clara Lund, Alvina Forsberg, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her husband Palmer, her parents Odell and Laura Anderson; brothers and sisters: Lloyd Anderson, Morris Anderson, Kenneth Anderson, Edna Forsberg, Mayme Hanson, and Eunice Goodwin. In honour of mom�s request, no funeral will be held, but per her wishes her family will gather this summer for our Norwegian version of a wake, to reminisce and have a fun time. She will be laid to rest beside Palmer at Saron Cemetery at a later date. On Sunday, April 23, 2000, Clifton LeRoy Lund, late of Lake Alma, passed away at the Regina General Hospital, at the age of 67 years. Predeceased by his father, Ole Lund; one brother, Obert Lund; one brother-in-law, Delmar Ness and one sister-in-law, Emilie Ness. Clif is survived by his loving wife Darlene Lund of Lake Alma; his children: Cindy (Blaine) Lohse of Beaubier; Louanne (Ron) Buttar of Moose Jaw; and Dean (Laurie) Lund of Weyburn; grandchildren: Carey and Tyrell Lohse, Michelle, Spencer and Chad Woitas; Colton, Brooklyn and Jasmine Lund (twins); his mother, Ethel Lund of Weyburn; one sister, Vernice (Jim) Franklin of Cochrane, AB; one sister-in-law, Inez Lund of Weyburn; three aunts; Regena Lund of Weyburn; Alma (Chuck) Richards of Winnipeg, MB; and Lucille Strom of McTaggart; as well as several nieces and nephews. Clifton LeRoy Lund was born March 16, 1933 at NW 13-1-17-W2 (RM Lake Alma) at his parents' home. He was baptized at Overland Lutheran Church and also took confirmation lessons there. He attended Overland, Sandoff and Highland View schools south of Lake Alma (to Sandoff he rode horseback 4.5 miles, and at Highland View he stayed with his uncles Olaf and Anton Lund). Clif worked for several farmers in the Overland and Highland View districts after school, those being Olaf and Anton Lund, Leonard Petersen, and several others. He drove gravel truck for Ronald Field, then hauled gas from Regina to Gladmar for Alfred Ehrhardt. On August 11, 1956, Clifton married Darlene Ness and lived for a short time in Regina. A move was made to Weyburn in 1957 where Clif worked as a service station attendant, and then as a clerk in the Macleods store. While living in Weyburn, a daughter Cindy was born to them. The 'country boy' remained a part of Clif's city life, and still had the longing to go farming. In 1963 they purchased the Tom Mortensen farm which they still own. Two more children became part of the family on the farm, Louanne was born in 1964 and Dean was born in 1967. In the fall of 1983 they moved into Lake Alma to live but he actively farmed until 1993 when ill health caused early retirement. Family, friends and farming were Clif's main interests. He was a kind, gentle, honest, home loving man who was always interested in his family and community happenings. He will be deeply mourned and forever in our thoughts. A memorial service was held Wednesday, April 26 at 2:00 p.m. from Lake Alma Lutheran Church with Pastor Martin Olson officiating. Organist was Evelyn Deal and Dennis and Ceta Rude sang a duet. Interment followed in Saron Cemetery, Lake Alma. The honorary pallbearers were: Arnold Paul, Brian Thue, Bob Mattson, John Paul, Clare Offet and Norman Petersen. LUND - Darlene (nee Ness). With overwhelming sadness mixed with relief, Darlene Lund�s family wish to advise her long battle with cancer ended approximately 8:20 pm on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, in the Radville Hospital with her family by her side. She had exceptionally compassionate palliative care since Saturday night, October 27. She will be hugely missed by her family as well as an extraordinary number of friends. Darlene was predeceased by her husband Clifton, her father and mother Harold and Mae Ness, her twin brother Delmar, her brothers Clarence and Howard, her sister-in-law Emilie Ness and one brother who died in infancy; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ole and Ethel Lund; her brothers-in-law Obert Lund and Jim Franklin; as well as Norman Petersen a long-time friend of Clifton and Darlene�s. Darlene is survived by three children: Cindy (Blaine) Lohse; Louanne (Rod) Richards; Dean (Val Pickering) Lund; eight grandchildren: Carey (Kenda) Lohse; Tyrell (Chrissy Mack) Lohse; Michelle (Devon Julian) Woitas; Spencer and Chad Woitas; Colton, Brooklyn, Jasmine Lund; four great grandchildren: Raina and Rhett Lohse; Kadence Lohse and Dylan Mack; very special friend Ervin Field; one brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Clara Ness; sister-in-law, Inez Lund, and sister-in-law, Vernice Franklin (who was more like a sister) and numerous nieces and nephews. Muriel Darlene Ness and her twin brother Murnal Delmar were born April 3, 1937 in Radville at the Hilda Beckwell Midwife residence. She was baptized July 4, 1937. She attended Tree Lake School through to Grade 10, taking Grade 9 and 10 by correspondence, and Grades 11 and 12 in Lake Alma. She also took a commercial office course in Estevan. In July 1955, she was employed at SaskPower in Regina. She married Clifton Lund August 11, 1956 in Lake Alma. They soon relocated from Regina to Weyburn where she continued to work for SaskPower at the Weyburn Airport Training Center. Initially they lived at the Weyburn Airport, and then in a second-floor suite in downtown Weyburn before purchasing a home on South Hill in Weyburn. On October 31, 1958 Cindy was born in Weyburn. Darlene returned to work shortly thereafter and continued at SaskPower for four and a half years. They then purchased Tom Mortensen�s farm south of Lake Alma. Cliff always said "if I hadn�t taken her to the farm, she would probably be running SaskPower by now". Louanne was born November 21, 1964 and Dean was born March 21, 1967, both in Weyburn. (Darlene referred to Dean as her Centennial Project). During this time Darlene worked in the bar in Lake Alma, drove school bus, was a Kindergarten teacher�s aide and Village Clerk (sometimes all in the same day). At the age of 46, she took a two year local government correspondence course; then she spent several years training at the RM office until she became the RM Administrator in 1990. Darlene believed in community involvement. She served as a School Board Trustee from 1968-1981; 10 of those years she held the Chairman position. She was on the Golden Heritage Board, she belonged to the Royal Purple holding various executive positions; and she was actively involved in organizing and publishing the original Settlers of the Hills history book. She typed, edited and published a biography for her Aunt Inga McCoy �As I Remember�. She enjoyed curling, the Red Hatters, and the Tim Horton Coffee Circle with Ervin Field. A Service of Remembrance for Darlene was held on Saturday, November 24 at 11:00 a.m. from Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn with Pastor Martin Olson, officiating. A private family interment followed at Saron Cemetery, Lake Alma. LUND - Edel "Ethel" Oliva (nee Strom) was born in Bonetrail, North Dakota, on August 13, 1907. Her parents, Petra and Otelius Strom, had both emigrated from Norway years earlier; in 1911, the pioneer family including Martin, Harold, Ethel and Earl moved to a homestead in Canada NW 9-1-17 W2 where four more children - Ida, Alma, Melvin and Marvellous, were born. Ethel, who spoke only Norwegian, started her schooling as soon as Highland View opened, walking a mile and a half with her brothers. She told how her first teacher lifted her up on a chair so she could reach the blackboard, and she won a penny by beating the others in writing the "2 times table." A teacher was also responsible for changing the Norwegian name Edel to Ethel, an English translation. Ethel later re-lived those difficult early years while writing her parents' story for the Settlers of the Hills history book (which she and Ole helped put together in the early 1970s). She had many interesting and humorous memories, but the death of her brother, Martin, when she was eight years old always seemed the most vivid; he lost his leg in a threshing accident, and subsequently died from loss of blood after being transported by team and wagon to a doctor in the States. Ethel was confirmed (in Norwegian) in the Overland basement (years later she became a charter member of the Overland congregation actively participating in their church services and Ladies Aid Society). In 1923 the Strom family lived for a short time on the farm where Clifton and Darlene later raised their family; they then returned to their original homestead. In June, 1924, Ethel married Ole Lund, a neighbour's son. They spent the next 34 years on their farm near Overland. They raised three children there while struggling to survive the depression and the war years when Obert was in the U.S. army in Europe. But Ethel would tell you that the happy times with family and friends far outnumbered the trying ones. In 1958 Ethel and Ole moved into Lake Alma, first operating the cafe, then janitoring at the school. During Ethel's term on village council in the late 1960s she was instrumental in getting water and sewer services into Lake Alma homes. She also spent several years as an assistant at the Regional Library, and was a charter member of the Lake Alma Over 50 Carefree Centre. During these years, Ethel will be remembered for always "putting on the coffee pot" and serving home baking whenever anyone stopped by. Doughnuts and lefsa were only two of her specialities. She had numerous hobbies, including crocheting, gardening and playing cards "especially whist." She also loved to travel, going on two trips to Norway and several bus trips before Ole passed away in 1979. She went on another trip to Norway, on other bus trips, and accompanied Vernice and Jim on several holidays. Ethel moved into an apartment in Weyburn in 1989, then entered the Weyburn Special Care Home in 1993 when she could no longer live alone. Ethel always said she had a very good life with many friends and wonderful memories. Sadly these memories were gradually lost to her during later years. She passed away peacefully on October 8, 2000 at the age of 93 years in her room at the Home. She was predeceased by her parents, Otelius and Petra Strom, her husband, Ole in 1979, her sons, Obert and Clifton Lund, sisters, Ida Petterson, Marvellous Tytlands-vik and brothers, Martin, Harold, Earl and Melvin Strom. Ethel is survived by one daughter, Vernice (Jim) Franklin of Cochrane, AB, two daughters-in-law, Darlene Lund of Lake Alma, Inez Lund of Weyburn, one sister Alma (Chuck) Richards of Winnipeg, MB, one sister-in-law, Lucille Strom of McTaggart; ten grandchildren: Mitchell Lund of Drayton Valley, AB, Valerie (Dennis) Fladeland of Gladmar, Laine (Lana) Lund of Midale, Glenn (Terrie) Lund of Macoun, Cindy (Blaine) Lohse of Beaubier, Louanne (Ron Buttar) Woitas of Moose Jaw, Dean (Laurie Lund of Weyburn, Kally Ann (Dale) Streit of Calgary, AB, Garth Aldrich of Abbotsford, BC and Grant (Carrie) Aldrich of Calgary, AB; plus 23 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. LUND - Marvin was born in the Lake Alma District on November 29, 1935. He was the youngest son of Olaf and Regena Lund and was raised on the family farm with his brother and sisters. He received his basic education at Highland View School and quit school very young to help Olaf and Elmer on the farm. Marvin was a hog farmer for a short time; then his life-long love of cattle took hold. He farmed with his dad until his dad's death and then took over the ranch in 1982. Marvin Omar Lund passed away on January 1st, 2004 at the age of 68 years. He was predeceased by his parents Olaf (1982) and Regena (2000); his brothers: Charles (at birth) and Elmer (1997); his sisters: Lorraine Petersen (1988) and Lillian Pohle (2003). He is survived by his brothers-in-law: Norman (Lorraine dec) and Robert (Lillian dec) Pohle; sister-in-law, Marie Becker, nine nieces and nephews as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. Interment will follow in the Saron Cemetery at a later date. LUND - Mitchell Obert, late of Drayton Valley, AB and formerly of Lake Alma passed away on May 22, 2005 at the age of 57 years. Mitchell was a farm boy, raised near Lake Alma. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. He attended school at Lake Alma and then at Gladmar. Mitchell worked with the oil, which took him to many locations in Saskatchewan and Alberta. Starting in Midale, then in the north and last in Drayton Valley, Alberta. He loved the north country, nature and animals. One of his favorite things to do was fishing. He was predeceased by his father, Obert Lund; his grandparents, Ole and Ethel Lund, Rex and Ida DeLong. He is survived by his four daughters, Linda (Chris) Dargis, Karen (Yves) Normand, Heather and Candice all of Bonnyville, AB; he is also survived his mother, Inez Lund, Weyburn, one sister, Valerie (Dennis) Fladeland, Gladmar, two brothers, Laine (Lana) Lund, Midale, Glenn (Terrie) Lund, Macoun; five grandchildren, Kailee, Jonah, Mason, Ashley and Sydney; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. LUND - Palmer Sidney of Weyburn, Sask. passed away on December 27, 2000 at the age of 73 years. Interment at Saron Cemetery, Lake Alma LUND - Regena Sophie (nee Johnson). On Monday, May 8, 2000, Regena Sophie Lund, of Lake Alma, passed away at Crocus Plains Villa in Weyburn at the age of 89 years. Predeceased by her parents, John and Engeberg Johnson, her husband Olaf Lund, one son Elmer Lund, one son in infancy, Charles Lund, one daughter, Lorraine Petersen; stepmother; two sisters; two brothers; three half brothers. Regena is survived by her daughter, Lillian (Robert) Pohle of Weyburn; her son, Marvin Lund of Lake Alma; son-in-law, Norman Petersen (Arlene) of Lake Alma; nine grandchildren and their families; 23 great grandchildren; six half sisters; three half brothers; two sisters-in-law; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Regena was born at Watford City, North Dakota, on May 28, 1910. She came to the Lake Alma area in 1912, and later attended school at Highland View district. As did many young ladies, Regena worked for various neighbors in the area, and she was not on a 40 hour week. The lack of the amenities we have now made for a lot of hard work, but she was diligent in her work. In 1930 Regena married Olaf Lund, and they farmed together as they raised the blessings of their marriage, namely Elmer, Charles, Lillian, Marvina and Lorraine. Her love for gardening made her work, which was hard, seem lighter, and since it was for her family, it was her way of showing her love for them. In pioneer days, food was a precious commodity, and Regena enjoyed cooking and baking. Her love for her family was shown in the kitchen, but she also taught her children the importance of sharing what you are able. "Nobody ever left her house hungry, even if they were strangers," is a gift she gave to her family. In 1982, Olaf passed away after over 50 years of marriage. Regena however, continued on as usual, doing what she was able to help. Her love was the farm, but when she began having some difficulty in walking, she retired to the Crocus Plains Villa. It may not be totally true to call it retirement, since she continued to crochet and do other crafts. She took part in the daily activities, and always enjoyed a visit with anyone with whom she could show her creations and her pictures of her family. On Friday, February 15, 2008, Vernon "Corky" Lund passed away at the Weyburn General Hospital at the age of 76 years. Predeceased by his parents, Anton and Ellen Lund, father and mother-in-law, Cornil and Bertha Ulledalen; brother, Palmer Lund, brother-in-law, Carl Forsberg and a nephew, Keith Peterson. Corky will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Clara and their family: six children: Leverne (Wendy) and grandson, Brett of Maple Creek; Randy (Julie) of Plentywood, MT; Terry of Lake Alma; Greg (Che) of Weyburn; Anita (Ian) and granddaughter, Kristie and grandson, Dakota of Weyburn; Wade of Lake Alma; sister, Alvina (John) Fabian of Regina; sister-in-law, Betty Lund of Weyburn; sister and brother-in-law, Ken and Sophie Peterson of Weyburn; brother-in-law, Leonard Ulledalen of Midale; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Vernon was born July 28, 1931, on the Montana-Saskatchewan border, the youngest of three children blessing the marriage of Anton and Ellen Lund. His formal education was shared with Overland, Busy Bee, Highland View schools, with high school studies at Birdshill in Lake Alma. In the spring of 1948, Vernon went back to help his father on the farm. When he started farming in 1950, he had a good crop and bought a 1950 Ford half ton which he used to court Clara. In the fall, in Merton Toso's farmyard, he asked her if she would marry him, and she said yes. He tells of their marriage celebration in Plentywood, "It was the happiest and best thing that has ever happened to me." That fall and winter they worked in Regina, and then returned to buy the Krist Tandberg farm. This was a multi tasked farm and the first three sons were born while there. In 1958 they bought the Merton Toso farm and here the family was completed with three more children. Vernon enjoyed riding horses, so moving his cattle the 12 miles to pasture and helping others move cattle was a joy. Eldon and Beryl Lohse and others would work together in this task. The joy of horses led him to go on trail rides in the Big Muddy, wagon trains to Wood Mountain, and the Border Commission ride. He was also able to ride in the Black Hills of the Dakotas. Vernon shared his knowledge and ability as he was a leader in the Borderview 4-H Light Horse Club and led the members on the Sitting Bull Wagon Train. He also coached little league baseball, loading the team into a 1958 Edsel to go to games at Ceylon, Radville, Minton and Oungre, as well as a tournament in Weyburn. Vernon worked at various jobs. He had worked in the oil patch in Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. After moving to Weyburn, he worked for a while for Tom Minard, and while he enjoyed this, it was inside work, so he started his own custom fencing business which took him to a number of PFRA pastures. He will be fondly remembered by all he knew and loved. Interment followed at Saron Cemetery, Lake Alma. MAKELKI - Jack Makelki, late of Lake Alma, passed away June 28, 2014, at the age of 84 years. Jack was predeceased by his parents: John and Helen Makelki; father and mother-in-law: Thomas and Edith Paul; brothers and sisters: Joseph, George, Chris, Rose and Matilda; sisters and brothers-in-law: Phyllis, Diane, Bunny, Alfred, Ernest, Pete, and granddaughter: Amanda. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Florence, lovingly remembered by his seven children: Rodney and Debrah, William and Charlene, Kenneth and Lillian, David, Donald and Lisa, Stephan and Shirley, Betty and Wayne; 20 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, brother and sisters; Charlie, Katie and Margaret; brothers and sisters-in-law: Tom and Shirley, Arvella, John and Cheryl, Dorothy, Donna, Marcella as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. MATTSON - Mabel Amy (nee Janke) was born on the family farm at Lake Alma on March 8, 1913 to William and Josephine Janke. Mabel was married on April 24, 1935 in Plentywood, Montana to Robert Mattson. Robert and Mabel lived on the farm at Lake Alma, where they raised their family, Lois and Bob. Mabel enjoyed cooking and soon was employed as a cook at the Sybouts Salt Plant where she cooked for different crews. She then began cooking for the Department of Highways where she stayed for many years. In 1978, Mabel retired and moved to Legion Towers in Weyburn where she was always involved in the events and activities that took place there. Mabel enjoyed her time at Legion Towers over the 23 years she was there. She moved to the Marian Home in Radville in 2001, where she enjoyed being involved in the events and activities that took place. Mabel leaves many good friends throughout Saskatchewan. She will be greatly missed. Funeral service was held Saturday, October 25 at 2:00 p.m. from Lake Alma Lutheran Church with Pastor Kelly Henning officiating. NESS - Clarence Ness, late of Weyburn passed away July 29, 2012, at the age of 90 years. Clarence was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Mae Ness; his wife, Emilie Ness, two brothers: Delmar Ness and Howard Ness. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Ernest Ness (Joyce), Williams Lake, BC; Clarice Viguie, Edmonton, AB; Cameron Ness (Cheryl), Beaver Lodge, AB; Lester (Pat) Ness, Fort McLeod, AB; Neil (Dianne) Ness, Wainwright, AB; Alvin (Connie) Ness, Innisfail, AB; Philip (Colette) Ness, Calgary, AB; Lyle (Bonnie) Ness, Weyburn; his brother, Earl (Clara) Ness, Weyburn and sister, Darlene Lund, Lake Alma, who will miss him dearly as well as many grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Clarence was born in Lake Alma on August 24,1921, the son of Harold and Mae Ness. He grew up on the family farm in Lake Alma and attended school at Tree Lake School. Clarence married his loving wife Emilie on June 7, 1945 and together they raised a family of eight children. Clarence loved his family and farming. Their farm was where he spent most of his life and raised his family. He also had a wonderful passion to play the violin as well as building and repairing musical instruments. His warm smile could only be surpassed by his jovial laughter. He was always there to lend a hand to the community or neighbours to build things, repair equipment or do electrical work. A funeral service for Clarence was held on Thursday, August 2 at 2:00 p.m. from Lake Alma Lutheran Church, Lake Alma, with Pastor Martin Olson, officiating. Interment followed at Saron Cemetery, Lake Alma. All in attendance were considered honorary pallbearers. Active pallbearers were Dean Lund, Blaine Lohse, Mark Overbye, Lance Petersen, Joe Woitas and Wade Hoimyr. NESS - Earl Ness, late of Weyburn, passed away April 8, 2014, at the age of 91 years. Earl was born on January 15, 1923 to Harold and Mae Ness. Earl attended the Tree Lake School until Grade 8 when he stayed home to help Grandpa Ness on the farm. In 1944 he met Clara Jorde, she was 13 years old. Eventually they started to date and were married on October 22, 1950 at Lake Alma Parsonage. Earl and Clara raised three daughters, Sherry, Fay and Marilyn. In May of 1957 they moved to New Westminster, BC. The housing costs were very high and it was difficult for Earl to find steady work. In October of 1957 they packed up again and returned to Saskatchewan and settled in Estevan. Earl worked in the oil industry for Bradnor Construction until 1960. He then had a job on Joe Olah�s pig farm, in 1962 he was then hired by Harold Jennings to work on his pig farm in McTaggart. From there Earl went to work for Swartz Brothers Construction, he had just started working there when the scaffolding collapsed and he fell into the basement. In 1966 Earl and Clara bought their first and only house. When he could return to work it was for several garages in Weyburn. Earl started working for Neil Paddy�s Garage and he took two years of his Journeyman Mechanics. Eventually he got Arthritis and could no longer work with his arms over his head. He applied at Souris Valley in 1975 in the maintenance department. He worked there until he retired in 1988. Earl suffered most of his retired life with Rheumatoid Arthritis and at one time was almost totally crippled with it. In 1994 he heard about Chelation which was supposed to restore circulation. Earl received treatments in Kitscoty, he returned home a new man. He went from being barely able to walk to playing golf the next summer with his sons-in-law. Earl was always teasing and laughing with someone. To his daughters he was the �go to man�. There was never anything he couldn�t fix for them. It may have taken a day or two for him to figure it out, but he always came up with a solution. Those solutions would lots of times come to him while he was sleeping. Earl was always there for his daughters no matter what they needed. Earl was a great story teller and that twinkle in his eye while he was telling a tall tale will be missed by all. Earl will be fondly remembered and terribly missed by his wife Clara of 63 years. Daughter Sherry, her daughter Sheila and husband Neil, their children Michael, Jaycee, Miranda, Riley, Kayla and her children Avery and Marley. Sherry�s son Aaron, wife Erin and their children Brendon, Morgan and Carter. Daughter Fay and husband Jerry, Fay�s son Jay and his daughter Emma, Fay�s son Billy, his wife Shannon and their children Sadie and Elliott. Daughter Marilyn and husband Kevin, their son Garrett, their daughter Jeanette and her husband Clint. Earl will also be missed by numerous relatives and friends. NESS - Howard Ness, late of Radville, formerly of Lake Alma, passed away Monday, October 10, 2011, at the age of 84 years. Howard was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Mae Ness; infant baby brother; brother, Delmar; sister-in-law, Emilie Ness; brother-in-law, Clifton Lund. He leaves to mourn his brothers, Clarence and family, Ernest (Joyce), Clarice Viguie, Cameron (Cheryl), Lester (Pat), Neil (Diane), Alvin (Connie), Philip (Collette), Lyle (Bonnie) and their respective families; brother Earl (Clara) and their family, Sherry Kradoville; Faye (Jerry) Holstein, Marilyn (Kevin) Lindskog and their respective families; sister Darlene Lund and her family, Cindy (Blaine) Lohse; Louanne (Rod Richards) Woitas; Dean (Val Pickering) and his respective family; uncle, Leonard Hestad as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and nephews, one great great great nephew and cousins. Howard was born on January 14, 1927 on NE 07-02-17-W2 to Harold and Mae Ness. He was a younger brother to Clarence and Earl. Ten years later, twins, Darlene and Delmar joined the family. Howard attended Tree Lake School, south west of Lake Alma, where he completed his Grade 8. Howard became a farm boy with a great love for horses. When he grew up, all the farming was done with horses, but eventually he wanted a riding horse as well as the work horses. Eventually he got a saddle horse, �Thunder�, who was with Howard until the end of his days. During this time Howard owned, trained and broke many animals both for riding and driving. He farmed with our dad and eventually obtained land of his own. In later years, Howard and Delmar farmed together and purchased Dad�s farm. To supplement farming, he worked at Sybouts Sodium Sulphite mine near Gladmar for several years. He married in 1975 which ended in divorce a few years later. At this time, he left for Alberta. To live in Calgary had been a life-long dream. He worked first for the Foot Hills Hospital in cleaning and maintenance. From there he went to Fort Smith, NWT to work at a sawmill. After one year he returned to Calgary and worked at a meat packing plant. From there he went to the Canadian Pacific Railway where he worked for over 12 years on maintenance. After retirement he worked on farms and ranches doing light work in the Okotoks, Nanton, High River and Hill Spring areas in Alberta. During this time he had both hips replaced and was able to walk quite well. In 2000 Howard decided to come back to his roots again. He lived with brother Clarence for several years on Clarence�s farm. In 1996 he decided to relocate to the Radville Golden Heritage Place to be nearer to doctors and services not available at Lake Alma. In 2009 Howard became a resident of the Marian Health Centre at Radville and has remained there until his death on October 10. A service of remembrance for Howard was held on Friday, October 14 at 1:00 p.m. from RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, with Pastor Martin Olson, officiating. Lunch followed. Interment followed at 3:30 p.m. at Saron Cemetery, Lake Alma. Honorary pallbearers were all in attendance. NESS - Julian Bernhard Ness of Tribune, Sk. was born August 8, 1912 in Barnsville, Minnesota, passing away suddenly Wednesday, July 11, 1979 leaving to mourn are his wife Norma, sons: Garry (Norma) of Midale, Sk., Mervin (Valerie) of Weyburn, Sk.; daughters: Gloris (Ron) Bohn of Weyburm, Mavis (Andrew) O'Donnell of Bromhead, Sk;, Miss Adele Ness of Midale; sisters: Mrs. May Stovra of Weyburn, Mrs. Evelyn Larson of Tribune; grandchildren Jason, Troy, Shawn, Amanda and Rebecca. The funeral was held July 14, 1979 at Lutheran Church, Beaubier, Sk with Pastor Ken Grambo presiding. Burial was in Immanual Cemetery. OFFET - Gladys Elmina (nee Nichols). On Saturday, February 24, 2001, Gladys Elmina Offet, late of Radville, passed away at the Radville Marian Health Centre, at the age of 90 years. Predeceased by her husband, Carl Offet; her parents, David and Anna Nichols; one great grandson, David Bercier-Solie; one sister, ruby Stadnick and one brother, Bud Nichols. Gladys is survived by her son, Clare (Ida) Offet of Lake Alma; one daughter, Sharon (Vernon) Solie of Beaubier; six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gladys Elmina Offet was born August 28, 1910 at Midale, the eldest of three children, to David and Anna Nichols. In 1912 she moved, with her parents to the Lake Park district which later became Lake Alma. Gladys received her education at three country schools: Cluse Valley, Sandoff and Bird's Hill. She wrote her grade 8 departmental exams at Bromhead. Gladys worked at the Goodwater Hotel, owned by Lon Bartellmy for three years, and also worked for several farm families as housekeeper and caregiver. She came home to help when her mother became ill. Gladys was united in marriage with Carl Offet by Reverend Joy at Radville, March 23, 1933. Ruby Nichols, Mabel (Berg) Peterson and Ole Berg accompanied them in a 'Model T'. They lived with Carl's parents, Elling and Margarete on their farm south of Beaubier for a year and a half. Carl worked up north for a time, and when he returned they rented at several locations until they moved to the home place after Carl's father passed away in 1940. To this union a son, Clare, and a daughter, Sharon were born. Gardening was a favorite pastime, which was not easy, as pails of water had to be carried from the slough for both the vegetables and flowers that Gladys became known for. In 1955 Gladys and Carl moved to Lake Alma and took up residence in the Teacherage. Later they moved to the back of Rederburg's Store, and finally purchased the Louis Skjerdal house where they moved November 30, 1965. There were many changes after they left the farm. (That same year, oil was discovered on the farm). Carl and Gladys were active founders and fighters for the CCF and NDP parties. They were also founders and life members of the 'Over 50 Club'. Gladys worked at Rederburg's Store and at the library with Ethel Lund. Gladys was also involved with the Home and School Association. Carl and Gladys enjoyed travelling, especially in the US and spent some time, a few winters in Arizona and California. Carl passed away Nov. 12, 1986. Gladys continued to live in Lake Alma, tending her flowers for passers-by to admire, and offering her wonderful hospitality to family and friends (especially school bus drivers) until failing eyesight made it necessary for her to move. She stayed at Beautiful Plains Villa at Yellow Grass for two months, then moved to the Radville Marian Home, where she continued to be active and enjoy good health until February 11, 2001. Funeral service was held Wednesday, February 28 at 1:00 p.m. from Lake Alma Lutheran Church with Rev. Jim Winter officiating. Interment followed in Overland Cemetery, Lake Alma. The eulogy was read by Suzanne Bell, and Dennis and Ceta Rude sang a duet. Active pallbearers were: Craig Offet, Curtis Offet, Wendy Bell, Suzanne Bell, Candy Bercier and Warren Solie. The honorary pallbearers were residents and staff of the Radville Marian Health Centre and members of Lake Alma Over 50 Club. OLSON - Ella Elizabeth born June 1, 1935 in the Lake Alma District of Saskatchewan. Entered into Rest: Castlegar, British Columbia, December 6, 1999. Ella was predeceased by her father and brother. Ella leaves behind her loving husband of 47 years, Virgil Olson; and their children: Brenda Jersak (Merv), Albuquerque, New Mexico; Marvie Krogh (Tim), Kelowna, BC; Steve Olson (Marjie), North Vancouver. She also leaves seven grandchildren: Heather and Nicky Jersak; Josh, Jamie Lee and Kodie Krogh; Jared and Brianna Olson; her mother, Klara Tandberg, Beaubier, SK; and two sisters: Reidun Froes (John), Calgary, AB; and Hjordis Olson (Gordon), Beaubier. Ella was always willing to move wherever the Lord led. She loved life and never complained about her fight against cancer. OLSON - Ida Josephine (nee Berg) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at the Weyburn Special Care Home. She was 97. Ida was born on February 28, 1908 at Floodwood, Minnesota. She came with her family to the Overland district south of Lake Alma when she was still very young. She was the youngest in a family of nine children, five brothers and three sisters. It was her dream to become a teacher but money was scarce so that dream was never realized. She remained at home helping her parents on the farm until November 7, 1932 when she married Austin Olson. They farmed north of Lake Alma until 1955 when they moved into Lake Alma to operate the restaurant. In 1958 they opened Olson's Confectionery. This was an ideal move for their semi-retirement - not too much work and a time to visit regularly with customers and friends, something that both Austin and Ida enjoyed. Ida was a member of Faith Free Lutheran Church at Lake Alma, attending regularly and also active in the Women's Missionary Federation (W.M.F.) She was outspoken about her Christian faith and was a great prayer warrior. A highlight of her life was a trip to Israel in 1980 to see first hand the places she had read about so many times in her Bible. She was predeceased by her parents, Ole and Elise Berg, her husband, Austin Olson, five brothers: Joseph, Oscar, Iver, Ole and Harold, three sisters: Augusta Johnson, Emma Hammer and Mathilda Berg. Ida will be lovingly remembered by her son, Clifford Olson (Patricia Lee) and his children: Crystal Olson, Natalie Mayzel (Marty Nordstrom), Danelle Hendren (Brian Meaney), and Bradley Olson; her daughter, Arliss (Erik) Overbye and their children: Susan (Len) Parker and Aaron (Jennifer) Overbye, eight great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law: Mabel and Irene Berg, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held Friday, November 4, at 2:00 p.m. from Faith Free Lutheran Church, Lake Alma, with Pastor Kelly Henning officiating. Interment followed in Saron Cemetery, Lake Alma. OVERBYE - Erik Maxwell Overbye, late of Lake Alma, passed away on May 13, 2011 at the age of 79 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Magnus and Martha Overbye. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Arliss Overbye, Weyburn; his daughter Susan (Len) Parker, Sedley, and their children, Lyndee and Rylan Parker; his son, Aaron (Jennifer) Overbye, Stony Mountain, MB; sister, Andrea (Ray) Rannala, Coquitlam, BC; brother Howard (Margaret) Overbye, Weyburn; brother-in-law, Cliff Olson, Langley, BC as well as several nieces and nephews. Erik was born on February 27, 1932 at Lake Alma, the last of a family of three children born to Magnus and Martha Overbye. He attended Busy Bee School until he joined his father and brother, Howard, in farming and raising cattle. Erik loved sports. He played softball, hockey and golf. In 1954, Erik bought his own farm five miles south of Lake Alma. It was similar to homesteading. The land was broke for crops but everything else needed to be built from scratch. He had ordered trees for a shelterbelt to be started in the spring of 1959 and needed someone to take care of them. It became a family joke that he needed a wife before spring so in October 1958, he married Arliss Olson, also of Lake Alma, but at the time nursing in Saskatoon. He was always trying to devise ways to make his work more efficient. Quite often in the evening, he would sit with pen and paper sketching out ideas that he could use to modify or improve some need around the farm or home. As his life drew to a close, he looked forward with anticipation to his heavenly home. He spoke freely of his faith to family and friends. Interment followed at Saron Lutheran Cemetery, Lake Alma with Pastor Kelly Henning of Faith Free Lutheran Church, Lake Alma, officiating. The pallbearers were Lukas Overbye, Evan Overbye, Michael Throssell, Wayne Throssell, Bill Deal and Rylan Parker. PAWLAK - Ivy. On November 10, 1999, Mrs. Ivy Pawlak passed away in Lloydminster, SK at the age of 87 years. Ivy was born in a sod hut at Ratcliffe on August 23, 1912. She married Tim Pawlak in 1940. Together they started their family of three and their business operation of country store, gas station and post office. After only ten years of marriage Tim passed away suddenly. Ivy continued on with the family business until 1961. At that time she returned to school and got her teaching certificate. She taught in Oungre, SK until her retirement. Ivy is survived by her children Steven (Gayle) of Vermilion, AB, Shannon Young of Sandy, Utah, Elgin (Elsie) of Kitscoty, AB, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and one brother Jim Ratcliffe of Brandon, MB. Ivy was predeceased by her husband and brothers Ernest, Richard and Joseph. Ivy has been cremated and will be laid to rest with her husband Tim in the St. John's cemetery at Beaubier. An annual scholarship will be set up in memory of Ivy at Western Christian College. This college was attended by all three of her children and by several of her grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Jubilee Home in Lloydminster for their kindness and caring. PETERSEN - Clifford John Erling, late of Weyburn, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2004 at the age of 84. Clifford was predeceased by his parents, Christ and Myrtle Petersen; a brother, Clarence; two sisters, Norma Vaksdal and Evelyn Von Hagen; six sisters-in-law, Lorraine, Sylvia and Violet Petersen, Isabelle Benneweis, Gladys McNeil and Laura Speight; three brothers-in-law, Gerald and Don McNeil and Lloyd Lohse; one nephew, Keith Petersen and friend, Emma Reisch. Clifford is survived by his children, Dale (Pat) Petersen, Lake Alma; and Lynn (Ron) Fink, Edmonton, AB; five grandchildren, Brenda (Calvin) Sonnteg, Brad Fink (Kristin Baker), Greg (Gwen) Marshall, Amber and Davin Petersen; three great grandchildren, Anna Sonnteg, Gage and Reese Marshall; his former wife, Jean Petersen; five brothers, Elmer, Leonard, Norman, Kenneth (Sophie), and Larry (June) Petersen; three brothers-in-law, Doug Von Hagen, Jim (Evelyn) Vaksdal and Kermit Benneweis; two sisters-in-law, Edna Lohse and Pat McNeil; friend, Anne Ellingson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Clifford was born on February 12, 1920 at SW 35-1-17 W2nd in the Lake Alma area. From December, 1940 to July, 1945, during WW2 Cliff served as a Corporal with the Air Force. On August 23, 1943 Clifford and Jean (nee McNeil) were united in marriage. He farmed from 1945 to 1976 and then, from 1976 to 1987, operated Petersen Health Food Store in Weyburn. He served as the Reeve of RM #8 for 16 years. He was a member of the BPOE Lodge in both Lake Alma and Weyburn. He was an active member of the Southeast Surface Rights Association and was a member of the Weyburn Legion, was involved with Bison Manor Association and was on the Lake Alma History Book Committee. Cliff was a musician and played with the Rhythm Rascals and also enjoyed square dancing. Cliff was a man of nature, enjoying many visits to the farm after retirement. He loved checking on the crops, the cattle and especially the 'barn cats'. Prayers were held on Friday, December 10, at 7:00 p.m. at RD Family Memorial Funeral Chapel, Weyburn. A Service of Remembrance was held on Saturday, December 11 at 2:00 p.m. from Lake Alma Lutheran Church, with Marjorie McLeod officiating. All in attendance were considered honorary pallbearers. Interment followed at Saron Cemetery, Lake Alma. PETERSEN - Elmer Raymond. It is with sorrow we announce the passing of our dear dad, grandpa, great grandpa, on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the age of 87 years. Elmer Raymond Petersen was born September 1, 1921 on the Petersen farm south of Lake Alma to Christian and Myrtle Petersen. He attended Sandoff School and often told stories of either riding horse to school or going on skis. Elmer married Sylvia Vaksdal on July 27, 1946. They had three children Linda, Trudy and Lorne and were fortunate to have Kristine Roen as part of their family for two years while her mother, Auslaug, completed her hairdressing course. They adored their eight grandchildren, Chris, Michael, Natalie, Kim, Mark, Brian, Jeff and Chelsea. They lived on their farm south of Beaubier for 33 years, and while still farming moved to Beaubier in 1979. Elmer enjoyed all aspects of farming and continued to help out on the farm, after selling to Lorne and Kathy, until it literally became too much of a pain. But he always listened to the farm news and kept very well informed. Sylvia passed away in 2001 and Elmer later moved to Weyburn. Dad loved sharing his memories of his childhood, playing ball, working on his dad's farm, custom combining in the area for one very long harvest season and recapping many of his most memorable curling games. Elmer was on the Beaubier Co-op Board for many years. In fact, he attended the 75th anniversary of the Beaubier Co-op in April of this year and was quite thrilled to be included in this celebration. When Elmer and Sylvia were still living in Beaubier, he spent many enjoyable hours golfing with family members as well as participating in as many golf tournaments as possible. His golf trophies were proudly displayed no matter where he lived. Dad never forgot the year they all went golfing on the day after Christmas! Dad and Mom played cards all winter long with family and friends. And this love of cards and fellowship continued when he moved to Weyburn. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and had strong opinions of which players should remain on the team and which ones needed to go. Often after a televised game, there would be a call to Doug Von Hagen or Linda and Tom to discuss the results. Another sport he really took pleasure in watching was curling, which he and Lorne would discuss later, or even during the games by telephone, or watch together when possible. And there was always his interest in the Roughriders. Since Trudy moved to Weyburn, Dad appreciated her company and assistance in shopping and everyday tasks, as he wasn't comfortable driving any longer. Dad enjoyed living at Legion Towers the last few years. He regularly attended all the Tuesday and Thursday night suppers, they were great! In fact, he would plan his week around these. Visits from family were the highlight of his life. He was always happiest when he could have a visit and play a game of cribbage with his grandchildren. His great grandchildren were so special to him and whenever he saw Sydney, Tyson or Paige his face would light up. Elmer was a quiet man of few words. He was a very organized man, and such a neat and tidy person. Dad was very proud of his independence and was still cooking meals for himself or for company. He would enjoy a long walk if weather permitted. He finally decided to have some help with the housework but then would always clean up before she came. He didn't want to be a burden to anyone but yet was willing to help his family at any time. He taught us all so much, and we will miss him forever. Ken was born in Lake Alma, the sixth child of nine of Christ and Myrtle Petersen. He married Sophie Ulledalen of Lake Alma June 20, 1953. They farmed in the Sandoff district and raised three children, Shelley, Laurie and Keith. They retired in 1992 and moved into Lake Alma and resided there until April of 2006 when they moved to Weyburn. Ken was an avid farmer and enjoyed a farmer's way of life. He and Sophie were blessed with 56 years of marriage and he was a devoted husband to the end. They enjoyed their life together and shared these years with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. This last summer in 2009, Ken was able to enjoy a wonderful weekend with his brothers and other relatives at a Petersen family reunion that took place at the home farm, and also this past Christmas, even though he was in the hospital, he was able to spend a wonderful Christmas with his immediate family, complete with the little great grandchildren, a real joy to him. Norman was born on the farm at Lake Alma on September 6, 1933. He attended Sandoff School until Grade 9 when he moved on to help his Dad on the farm. He then drove gravel truck for various companies until he purchased the home farm from his parents in 1964. On November 14 of that same year he married his long time love, Lorraine Lund and they started their life on the farm in Lake Alma. The first child to arrive was Wendy Loran on October 16, 1965, followed by a second daughter, Loran Patti on July 26, 1969 and finally a son, Duane Marty on February 27, 1972. In 1972, they moved the old house off the foundation and built a new house. The family took many trips to Banff, the Black Hills and to Vancouver. The road between the farm and Weyburn was well worn with the many trips Norman made driving Duane to hockey and Loran to ringette. In 1986, Lorraine was diagnosed with cancer and Norman spent the time until her passing in 1988 supporting her through chemotherapy. Norman loved to farm, play cards and visit. After he put all of his kids through university he returned to his love of traveling by taking trips to Branson, Memphis, Yukon and Alaska. Norman cherished his grandchildren and enjoyed going to all of their activities. Norman lived a full rich and happy life and it is comforting to know his passing was the same. The Service of Remembrance for Norman Petersen was held Tuesday, March 15, at 2:30 p.m. at the Lake Alma Lutheran Church, with Marjorie McLeod officiating. Interment followed at Saron Cemetery, Lake Alma. PETERSEN - Sylvia (nee Vaksdal). With sorrow we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Sylvia Petersen, on Saturday, May 12, 2001 at the age of 72 years. Sylvia was born June 24, 1928 on Section 2-3-17-W2, three miles north of Lake Alma, to Helmer and Hansine Vaksdal. She attended the Bird's Hill School in Lake Alma. When Sylvia started school she could only speak Norwegian. For a few years before they moved to Lake Alma she boarded out at different places to attend school in the winter months, one of these places being Ed Jacobsen's. She became like family to Clarice and Lillian. Their friendship was lifelong. After graduating from high school, Sylvia married Elmer Petersen on July 27, 1946. They lived with Chris and Myrtle Petersen for a few months until they purchased the Gustafson farm southwest of Beaubier. After living on the farm for 33 years, they moved to their new home in Bbeaubier in January 1979. From their union, three children were born: Linda, Trudy and Lorne. They were also blessed by having Kristine Roen as part of their family for the first two years of her life. Sylvia was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. She had a deep abiding faith in Jesus Christ and prayed faithfully for family and friends. She took great pleasure in the accomplishments of her family, encouraging each and every one. Next to her family, her greatest love was her flowers and tending to her yard. She also spent many hours oil painting. Her paintings have a place of honor in all our homes. Sylvia was a regular at the Tuesday evening gatherings at the lake Alma Recreation Center. One of the highlights of the week was being able to visit with her friends while also enjoying a game of cards. Other highlights were her almost daily telephone chats with Sophie Petersen, her friendship with Lorraine Ball and her new sister Evelyn and many other close friends and relatives too numerous to mention. Sylvia was predeceased by her parents Helmer and Hansine (Roen) Vaksdal, father and mother-in-law, Chris and Myrtle (Nora) Petersen, two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Petersen and Norma Vaksdal. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Elmer Petersen; her children: Linda (Tom) Clausen of Beaubier and their children, Chris and Michael (fianc�e Andrea Wallster); Trudy Koszman of Neepawa, MB and her children, Natalie (fiance Dan Styles), Kimberly and Mark; Lorne (Kathy) of Beaubier and their children, Brian (fianc�e Marnie Murphy), Jeffrey and Chelsea; one brother Jim (Evelyn) Vaksdal of Surrey, BC and one cousin Kristine (Louie) Medieros of Delta, BC. On Monday, September 1, 2003, Lillian Marie Pohle, passed away at the Weyburn General Hospital at the age of 69 years. Predeceased by her parents, Olaf Lund in 1982 and Regena Lund (nee Johnson) in 2000; brothers: Elmer in 1997 and Charles at birth; and sister, Lorraine Petersen in 1988. Lillian is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Robert Pohle and their children: one son, Brian (Caroline); two daughters: Janis (Ken) Webster and Carolyn (Bernard) Lalonde; eight grandchildren; one brother, Marvin Lund; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lillian Marie Pohle was born August 4, 1934 at Lake Alma, the oldest daughter of Olaf and Regena Lund. Her childhood years were spent on the family farm half a mile north of the U.S. border. She had two brothers and one sister and one brother who died at birth. Lillian completed her grade 9 at Highlandview School south of Lake Alma. She then continued on to grade 10 through correspondance. In 1952 Lillian left the farm and moved to Regina where she was employed with Sears in the accounting department. On July 2, 1956 she married Robert Martin Pohle at the Lake Alma Lutheran Church. She left Regina after her marriage and returned to the Lake Alma area at Sybouts Sodium Sulfate Mine. In 1967 the family moved to Weyburn where in 1969, Lillian gained employment with the Weyburn Co-Op. She worked there until she retired in 1995. Throughout the years Lillian enjoyed painting, sewing, gardening, and travelling when time allowed. Her favorite hobby and greatest joy were her grandchildren. She looked forward to the time she could spend with them and loved to watch them as they grew from one visit to the next. Lillian didn't have a lot of time for groups and clubs, but every year she found time to collect for the Canadian Cancer Society. Lillian was very special in that she was always very easy going and yet very quiet. She was a friend to all and a mother to many. She thought of everybody else before she would consider herself. Robert Martin Pohle was predeceased by his wife, Lillian (married for 47 years), his parents, Fred and Clara Pohle, sister, Alice Coulter, brothers, Carl, Walter, Henry, brothers in law, Marvin Lund, Elmer Lund, Nick Zeller, Norman Petersen, sister in law, Lorraine Petersen. Robert is survived by his son, Brian Pohle(Caroline Coghill), his daughters, Janis Webster (Ken McWatters) and children: Sean, Graham, Kaitlyn, Janiana; Carolyn Lalonde (Bernard Lalonde) and children: Robert, Richard, Johnathan, Stephanie and Clarence; sisters, Olga (Martin) Smith, Nina Zeller; sisters-in-law, Marion Pohle, Marie Becker along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Interment followed at 2:30 p.m., Monday, June 16 at Saron Cemetery, Lake Alma. POHLE - Walter Benny. On Wednesday, January 10, 2001, Walter Benny Pohle, late of Radville, passed away at the age of 77 years. Walter was born at Overland on October 30, 1923. His parents were Fred and Clara Pohle. He attended Overland School and was very active in ball games. Walter spent one winter working in the bush in Ontario but the major part of his life was spent on the family farm sharing the family duties with his older brother Carl until Carl's passing in 1984. Walter was a handyman in welding, both for himself and neighbors in the community. Walter and other farmers chased cattle to the community pasture each year. After the duties were done, he would cook them a lutefisk supper which they all immensely enjoyed. In 1990 Walter was hospitalized in Regina to undergo a hip replacement. Following his recovery he rented out the farm and moved to the Heritage Home in Radville. In 1992 he had an auction sale at the farm and in 1994 he entered the Radville Marian Home. He has kept himself busy sewing rugs, doing crafts and taking part in many of the activities and outings offered at the residence. Aside from all that, his favorite pastimes were visiting and doing word puzzles. Walter had a vivid memory of the earlier days and enjoyed sharing these past experiences with his visitors. Walter had three brothers and three sisters: Clare, Henry, Robert, Alice, Nina and Olga. Over the years he has suffered losses. His father passed away in 1934, mother in 1987, brother Carl in 1984 and sister Alice in 1988. He is survived by two sisters: Nina (Nick) Zeller of Stoney Plain, AB and Olga (Martin) Smith of Winnipeg, MB; two brothers, Henry (Marion) Pohle of Regina and Robert (Lillian) Pohle of Weyburn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held Monday, January 15 at 2:00 p.m. from Lake Alma Lutheran Church, Lake Alma, with Pastor Martin Olson officiating. Interment will be at a later date. Mark Koszman, Brian Petersen, Jeffrey Petersen, and Lonnie Vaksdal. ROYSUM - Omer Holles passed away January 30, 1999 after a short illness. Omer was born on the farm September 4, 1931. He was predeceased by his parents, Oscar and Almyrah Roysum. He leaves to mourn his wife of 45 years, Lorraine; his two daughters, Debbie (Kitch) Milford of Carstairs, AB; and Gwen (Brent) Kaufmann of Regina; and his two sons, Garnet (Elaine) Roysum of Beaubier, SK; and Gaylord (Kelly) Roysum of Weyburn; seven grandsons and three granddaughters; his sisters: Fern Clausen of Beaubier, Delores (Duane) Larsen, Peggy (Herman) Johnson, Vivian (Robert) Johnson and Beverly (Sam) Locken, all of Weyburn; his father and mother-in-law, Merthen and Hattie Toso of Radville; as well as nieces, nephews and friends. Omer farmed on the family homestead with his dad. He also drove school bus for seven years, when his children first started school. Omer enjoyed mechanical work and passed on his passion to his sons and grandsons. He enjoyed his family very much and called his granddaughters his 'honey-buns'. He was an entertaining story teller, especially about days gone by. He had a unique way of expressing himself. In later years he enjoyed playing rummy with family and friends. RYAN - Ole Ryan of Midale, passed away at the Mainprize Health Centre on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at the age of 104 years. Ole was born on December 19, 1901 near Sparbu, Norway. His family emigrated to North America in 1903 to the Ambrose, North Dakota area and then to Outram area in 1907. In the latter part of the 1920's they moved to a farm near Beaubier. Ole married Ruth Torkelson in 1933 at Lake Alma. In 1934 they moved to Chagoness, where they farmed until 1940 when they returned to Beaubier. In 1957, Ole and Ruth moved to Estevan and then to Midale in 1973 where he lived until his passing. The last few years were spent at the Mainprize Health Centre. Thank you to all who cared for Ole at Mainprize. Ole was predeceased by his wife: Ruth; four sisters: Lena (Evald) Forsgren, Aasta (Bjarne) Hofstad, Gudrun (Helge) Johnson, and Mabel (Leland) Torkelson; one brother: Olaf (Virginia) Ryan; two grandchildren: Marlin and Wendy; son-in-law: Harold Dynna; daughter-in-law: Evelyn (nee: Daae) Ole is survived by his three children: Arlin (Linda) Ryan, Lois Dynna and Marvin (Carole) Ryan; fifteen grandchildren; forty-four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four step-children and their children; nieces, nephews and many members of the extended family. She is survived by her children Tamama Schmidt, Roxanne Taylor, Greg Schnell, Tracy Jones, Natalie Hudec; eight granddaughters and five grandsons. Mavis is also survived by four sisters and four brothers: Thorine (Orville) Olsen, Estevan, Thor (Florence) Waldal, Lanigan, Ione (Roy) Wanner, Brooks, AB, Ken (Donna) Waldal, Harris, Inis (Art) Marcotte, Torquay, Casper (Loretta) Waldal, Regina, Wally (Marcella) Waldal, Calgary, AB and Janice Pettersen, Calgary, AB; sisters-in-law Wilda (Mervin) Waldal, Calgary, AB, and Ione (Elton) Waldal, Lanigan. Also numerous nieces and nephews. SKJERDAL - Isabelle Muirhead (nee McMaster). It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Isabelle Skjerdal of Parkway Lodge, Weyburn, on November 15, 2005 at the age of 96 years. She was born Isabelle Muirhead McMaster on June 6, 1909 in Estevan, to John and Jane McMaster, who immigrated to Canada from Ireland. She was the eleventh child in a family of 14 children. She had ten sisters and three brothers. Isabelle took her schooling in the Norge District and in the early years after she had completed her schooling she worked as a housekeeper for various families. It was while she was working at the Louis and Hilda Skjerdal farm that she met her future husband, Haakon. They were married March 31, 1931 in Estevan and together they farmed for many years in the Beaubier district, on the farm that Haakon had homesteaded after coming to Canada from Norway. They retired to Estevan in 1959, and it was then that she worked at various jobs including Creighton Lodge. Isabelle was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served in various capacities in the Lutheran Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member for many years of the N.D.P. Ladies Auxiliary as well as the Sixty and Over Club and spent many enjoyable hours playing canasta, whist and bridge with her friends. She was very talented in crafts and especially in knitting and crocheting and has left many treasured keepsakes of doilies and tablecloths for family and friends. Isabelle's family was the center of her life and she always looked forward to visits with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an excellent roll model, instilling a strong work ethic, love and honesty into her whole family. She will be greatly missed by all. After Haakon's passing in 1977, she continued to live in their home until July 2000 at which time she moved to Yardley Place in Estevan. Due to ill health in May 2004 she moved to Parkway Lodge in Weyburn where she shared a suite with her younger sister Irene, being very content and thankful for services rendered to her at Parkway Lodge. Predeceased by her husband Haakon in 1977, father John 1928, mother Jane 1957, sisters, brothers and in-laws: Lydia (George) Crawford, Lily (Delbert) Falkner, Jack McMaster, Margaret (Mac) McNaught, Maria (George) Kress, Martha (Thomas) Heatherington, Ina (Joe) Debienne, Annie McMaster, Minnie (Philip) Campbell, Robert McMaster, Mabel (Ernie) Texeth, and John (Lucille) McMaster, Gilbert Larsen and Maurice Glaspey and son-in-law Roy Waller. Isabelle leaves to mourn her passing, daughter Alma (Glenn) Rushton of Selkirk, ON and two sons: Lloyd (Dotti) Skjerdal of Brentwood, California and Orville (LouVonne) Skjerdal of Moose Jaw; also grandchildren Ron (Randi) Waller, JoAnne Waller, Douglas (Debbie) Waller and David (Chris) Waller; Dan Skjerdal, Kristi (John) Walker, Suzanne (Jason) Le Scott; Vern Skjerdal, Keith (Bonnie) Skjerdal, Steve (Pam) Skjerdal, and Katherine (Garth) Huber; as well as 13 great grandchildren, her sister Irene Glaspey, Karen Skjerdal and many nieces and nephews, also two step granddaughters Kellie and Denise (Rushton) and their families. The funeral service was held in Trinity Lutheran Church, Estevan, on Monday, November 21 with the Reverend Kathleen Schmitke officiating. SKJERDAL - Lloyd. Sadly, we announce the passing of Lloyd Skjerdal of Brentwood, California on July 27, 2010. He was born April 12, 1933 in the Beaubier district and attended school at Norge in the Ratcliffe area. He also attended school at Estevan. Lloyd moved to San Mateo, CA in the spring of 1957, where he married Karen Bisgaard and he has lived in California until his passing. After moving to California he was drafted into the USA army and was stationed in Germany. His chosen lifetime career was in the field of accounting. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Haakon and Isabelle Skjerdal; a daughter in infancy; brother in law Roy Waller, in-laws Chris and Lorraine, Jim and Geraldine (Bishop) Bisgaard and many other relatives. Lloyd is survived by his son Dan of Brentwood, CA; daughters Kristi Skjerdal and her husband John Walker of San Mateo, CA; and Suzanne (Jason) Le Scott of Seattle, WA; grandchildren Katianne and Calvin Skjerdal Walker of San Mateo, CA; very special friend Dottie Harris of Brentwood, CA; his children�s Mother, Karen Skjerdal of Redwood City, CA; Sister Alma (Glenn) Rushton of Selkirk, ON and their families and brother Orville (Lou Vonne) Skjerdal of Moose Jaw and their families and many other relatives and special friends. Lloyd will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place, with memorialization to take place at a later date. SLIWKA - Genowefa "Gene" (nee Kowalczyk) was born on January 23rd, 1918 at Podlewsko, Poland, and passed away at Weyburn on Saturday, January 17th, 2009 at the age of 90 years. Gene was predeceased by her parents, Josef and Marysha Kowalczyk; her husband, Ted Sliwka on January 26th, 2008; a daughter Marisa Sliwka in infancy; a sister Stanislowa Klim, and a brother Wladyslaw Kowalczyk. Gene is survived by her sons: Wesley (Lenore) Sliwka , Thomas (Lucy) Sliwka; daughter-in-law, Renata Sliwka; four grandchildren: Lillian Sliwka, Claudia (Nathen) Richea, Brandie (Kent) Fisher and Nikkie Sliwka; two great grandchildren: Keira Fisher and Kai Fisher. Gene and son Wesley came to Canada in 1956 to join her husband Ted who had come earlier to prepare for their arrival. They settled in the Oungre area and later purchased their farm at Lake Alma. They farmed by Little Goose Lake for more than 40 years. Gene was a very hard worker. She helped with the farming, fed livestock, grew a large garden, and did lots of canning for winter supplies. Gene loved working in the soil and grew mushrooms, strawberries, fruit trees as well as many beautiful flowers and houseplants. Gene was a fantastic cook and always had a meal ready. She did a lot of sewing, making quilts, feather ticks, pillows and most of her own clothing. She loved to embroider and made many tablecloths, pillow slips, and tea towels. Gene enjoyed company and playing cards. She and Ted hosted many quests and card parties. She was active in her community and was a life member of the CWL. Gene and Ted retired to Legion Towers in Weyburn in 2002. Gene enjoyed the company of some old neighbors from the Lake Alma area, and made many more new friends. She enjoyed the entertainment and supper nights, making puzzles, and just being in the company of her Legion Tower family. Gene was very proud of both of her sons and looked forward to their visits. She would always have some ethnic food prepared for them. Gene will be sorely missed by all her family and her many friends. The funeral mass was held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Friday, January 23 at 10:30 am with Fr. Gerry Bauche, celebrant. Wes and Tom Sliwka and families SLIWKA - Ted, late of Weyburn, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the age of 93 years. Ted was predeceased by his parents Walenty and Marianna Sliwka; a daughter in infancy, Marisa Sliwka and five sisters. Ted is survived by his wife of 68 years, "Gene" Genowefa Sliwka; his sons: Wesley (Lenore) Sliwka, Thomas (Lucy) Sliwka; daughter-in-law, Renata Sliwka; four grandchildren: Lillian Sliwka, Claudia (Nathan) Richea, Brandie (Kent) Fisher and Nikkie Sliwka; two great grandchildren: Keira Fisher and Kai Fisher. Ted Sliwka was born on April 12, 1914 in the small Polish village of Poleska; he was one of six children born to Walenty and Marianna Sliwka. Being the only boy in a household of five sisters shaped Grandpa's life and the lessons learned from them would come in handy in the years that followed. Unfortunately one of those lessons was sorrow, which he learned early in his youth when he suffered the loss of his twin sister. Another profound moment in Grandpa's life was when he met and fell in love with our grandmother, this would begin a love affair that would last 68 years of marriage. They were married on April 29, 1939. That following September war broke out in Europe and Grandpa was called to serve with the Polish army. Prior to his deployment, his mother gave him a rosary that he carried with him throughout the war, this rosary was very special to him and provided him comfort during his five years as a POW. On two occasions during his imprisonment he was part of a group of men that had been tagged for execution; in both instances high ranking officers overturned this decision at the last minute. Grandpa always credited his ability to elude death by the protection that his special rosary provided and his strong faith. This rosary is now in the left hand pocket of his suit. After the war he worked in a coal mine in Holland where his best friend tracked him down through the Red Cross and convinced him he should move to Canada instead of Australia. Grandpa landed in Canada in 1956 and began working for a farmer in Oungre. Those early days in Canada were tough because he was separated from his family and everything was new and different. One day Grandpa decided that he was going to learn how to cook rice. He had tried it during the war and liked it and decided today was the day that we were going to learn how to cook it. He went to the store bought some rice and took it home and boiled some up, but it wasn't working; it was soggy and tough. Disgruntled, Grandpa went back to the store and wanted to know what kind of rice had this shop owner sold him?? Well poor Grandpa I can just image how red faced he got when he discovered that he had actually bought coconut instead of rice. Things began to fall into place in Canada and Grandpa worked hard and saved his money. He eventually purchased land near Lake Alma and farmed by Little Goose Lake. Grandpa stayed on this farm until he was 90; he raised cattle until he was 89! Grandpa had a way with animals that you would have to see to believe, he could comfortably walk amongst his herd and when he needed to call them to feed he would simply honk his horn and they would come running. His love of animals did not stop there and he was often caught feeding stray cats and he received a lot of reward working with his beloved peasants and pigeons. During his years on the farm he raised his family, and became known as a good neighbor, he would always help someone in need. He was a community man and was active with the Knights of Columbus. His warm smile and great sense of humour could be seen over a good game of cards. Later in life he enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren. We often spent our summers on the farm and one summer I found out what a truly youthful spirit he had. I bet my grandpa that I could run faster then him, he said okay prove it, ready set go! He took off like lightening, I couldn't catch up to him if I tried. What struck me about that moment was that I didn't think he had it in him and wow, he didn't even let a little kid win! His youthful spirit amazed a lot of people. This spirit became evident when Grandpa and Grandpa moved into town. He became the chauffeur for some of the elderly ladies at the Legion Tower. He would say they need help, they were getting old, meanwhile he was 90 at the time. Good thing those ladies wore their seatbelts; that man could have a lead foot, he put his sunglasses on and hit the pedal to the metal. The ladies also liked that he could still cut a mean rug; he was the only man who would still dance. Up to his death he kept his sense of humour, he was never a man to complain and often he would scluff off his ailments so that the conversation could move to a lighter tone. He hated hospitals; he said they were for sick people so why should he go? He even joked about death saying, hey it's cold this time of year to put someone in the ground, remember the long Johns. Well Grandpa we remembered. This is a sad day for the Sliwka family, a day in which we need to say good bye to a man who has truly touched our hearts in so many ways. Although we will miss him we know that he will be watching from heaven and we know that he has found peace by being reunited with his family and friends. We are sad he is gone but we know that heaven is even a better place today because he is in it. We love you Grandpa and rest in peace. Prayers were held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Weyburn, on Tuesday, January 29 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass was held at St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, on Wednesday, January 30 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Gerry Bauche celebrant. STORLE - Clarice Annie (nee Jacobson) born September 12, 1922, passed away peacefully April 15, 2010. Predeceased by her husband, Orville Storle; parents Eddy and Hulda Jacobson; her brother, Elvin Torkelson, sisters, Lillian Torkelson and Elenora Coldwell, as well as two brothers in infancy, Alfred and Lawrence. Clarice will be lovingly remembered by her family, four children: Clarke (Dianne Bashutski) Storle of Regina, and their children, Elena and Devin Storle; Kristine Storle of Regina, and her son, Dylan Storle; Orin (Kathy) Storle of Weyburn, and their children, Josh, Sara and Jesse Storle; and Janell Storle (Larry Cooper) of Winnipeg, MB and sister-in-law, Vickie Storle of Regina; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Clarice was born in Beaubier, Saskatchewan in 1922 and spent her early childhood in Radville. In 1929, the family relocated to Lake Alma. She completed school at Birds Hill School in Lake Alma then attended Normal School in Regina. She taught school and worked in municipal and school unit offices until 1949 when she married Orville Storle. They farmed at Lake Alma until 1999 when they moved to Weyburn. Clarice was active on the farm, taking pleasure in animal and crop husbandry. She was active in community volunteer organizations and took great interest in current affairs and politics. Clarice leaves many friends, acquaintances and extended family to mourn her passing. Funeral service was held Saturday, April 24 at 1:00 p.m. from the Church of Christ, Weyburn, with Rev. Scott Wade officiating. Interment followed in Saron Cemetery, Lake Alma. The Active Pallbearers were: her six grandchildren: Josh Storle, Dylan Storle, Elena Storle, Sara Storle, Devin Storle and Jesse Storle. All those in attendance were considered Honorary Pallbearers. STORLE - Irvin Kenneth, late of Regina and formerly of Lake Alma, passed away August 28, 2004 at the age of 83 years in Sunset Extendicare with his family at his side. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Vickie; his children Marc, Marilyn DeLaet, Karen (Dale) Muxlow, Charles (Valerie); daughter-in-law Juliette; his grandchildren: Gregory (Tina) Storle, Trena (Keith) Hein, Ashley (Kelsey) Gerle, Courtney Storle, Erin (George) St. Amant, Graham DeLaet, Melanie Muxlow, Ryan (Stacy) Muxlow, Blake, Bradley and Bridget Storle; great-grandchildren Kolten and Kayden Hein, Mason, Zander and Keagan Muxlow, baby Lacey Gerle and Katelyn Storle; his sister Viola of Regina; sisters-in-law Clarice Storle, Mary Wick, Lorraine Bell; brother-in-law John Kezima of Veregin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Irvin's passions in life were his farm and his family. He loved the land, the four seasons and particularly enjoyed working with the cattle. He will be lovingly missed by those who knew him. STORLE - Lawrence Clifford. On February 3, 1999 Lawrence Clifford Storle, late of Estevan, passed away at the age of 69 years. Lawrence has rejoined his brother Clifford, his sister Alice, his parents Severt and Hilda and his grandson Luke Storle who predeceased him. He leaves to remember him his children: Scott (Kel) Storle of Victoria; Kevin (Dianne) Storle of Grande Prairie, AB; Wayne (Mavis) Storle of Lake Alma, SK; and Pat (Ron) Hill of Grande Prairie, AB; and their mother Lorraine Ball; his grandchildren: Kerri, Jarett and Krystal Storle; Dustin Storle; Tina, James and Stacy Hill; his great grandchildren: Alyssa Thorig and Shalyn Snieder; his brothers: Orville (Clarice) Storle of Lake Alma; Irvin (Victoria) of Regina; his sister: Viola Storle of Regina as well as his cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and caregivers. Lawrence was born at Oungre on September 15, 1929. He was baptized at Scobey, Montana on July 5, 1930. He lived most of his life on the farm. He started farming with his father. On July 17, 1950 he married Lorraine Duncan, a local school teacher. He completely took over the farming from Severt when his parents retired in 1951. He was blessed with four children. Lawrence was never afraid of hard work. Although he ran up to date machinery, you would see him in the field on a hot day with the cab door open so that he could "hear what the motor was doing." He purchased his father's farm in 1971. He watched his children grow and start their own lives until 1991 when he suffered a stroke. He had built his grain and livestock operation into one of the larger ones in the community. He operated Storle Trucking helping build highways in the province. He also went custom combining in the U.S. He went fishing often in northern Sask. and became an avid traveller. He enjoyed farm shows like Agribition and bull sales. He made several trips sponsored by John Deere. He took pleasure in dancing, country music, eating lutefisk and lefse and playing cards. He, above all, loved to have his grandchildren around him. He remained a farmer at heart even through his handicap. He travelled from his home at the Estevan Regional Nursing Home to be in the midst of the farming operation that he loved. He would sit for hours watching in the fields and from time to time ride on the combine. Even though at times his caregivers thought that he could not communicate, he let them know that he could by being caught cheating at checkers. He participated in many activities with his caregivers and other friends at the nursing home. He always retained his sense of humour. The funeral service was held from Lake Alma Lutheran Church on February 8 with Pastor Martin Olson officiating. Pallbearers were: Clarke, Roger, Orin, Charles, Marc and Greg Storle. Interment followed at Saron Lutheran Cemetery. STORLE - Orville. On Saturday, April 7, 2001, Orville Storle, late of Weyburn, and formerly of Lake Alma, passed away at the Weyburn Special Care Home at the age of 84 years. Predeceased by his parents, Hilda and Severt Storle, a brother and sister in infancy; and brother, Lawrence. Orville is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Clarice Storle; two sons, Clarke (Dianne) Storle and their two children; Elena and Devin; and Orin (Kathy) Storle and their three children: Josh, Sara and Jesse; two daughters: Kristine and son Dylan; and Janell (Larry) Cooper; one sister, Viola Storle; one brother, Irvin (Vickie) Storle; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Orville Storle was born November 28, 1916 on the family farm. He was the first born son to Hilda and Severt Storle. When he started school at Cluse Valley, he spoke only Norwegian. He soon learned the English language but Norwegian remained very much in his roots as listening to the broadcast of the Norwegian church service from Williston on Sunday mornings was a must. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Pastor A.M. Vinge was the minister at the time of his confirmation. He was a member of the Saron congregation, later known as Lake Alma Lutheran. Orville also attended Sandoff and Bird's Hill schools completing his grade 12 in 1937. He lived and worked on the family farm along with his siblings, Irvin, Viola and Lawrence. During the depression, the Storle family moved to Oak Lake, MB where feed was available for their horses and cattle, returning to Lake Alma when conditions started to improve in 1938 and 39. Orville spent most of his life farming except for two winters working in Northern Ontario. He farmed with his father and brothers until he purchased the Victor Carlson farm. In 1949 he married Clarice Jacobson, to this union four children were born: Clarke, Kristine, Orin and Janell. As the children grew older, Orville became involved with them in 4-H activities and also was a member of the school board. Orville loved nature, the first birds to come back, the crocuses, farming, his cattle, gardening, collecting rocks with his faithful dog by his side. He was a great fan of the Blue Jays, enjoyed listening to Polka Party on Saturday evenings and he and Clarice were active members of the L.A. Over 50 Club. Orville was very proud of his children and grandchildren, their achievements in school, university, their goals and occupations in life. In 1999, because of Clarice's health, they moved to Weyburn. Just as things seemed to be improving, Orville's health failed. He spent some time in respite at Souris Valley, later moving to become a resident of Weyburn Special Care Home until his sudden passing on April 7 at the age of 84 years, 4 months and 10 days. Funeral service was held Wednesday, April 11 at 2:00 p.m. from Lake Alma Lutheran Church with Pastor Martin Olson and Pastor Ron Bestvater officiating, organist Dolores Hagen, and a duet by Arlin Ryan and Lois Dynna. Interment followed in Saron Cemetery, Lake Alma. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. The active pallbearers were: Wayne Storle, Charles Storle, Marc Storle, Bob Torkelson, Greg Storle and Harlan Throssel. STORLE - Roger Irvin was born April 6, 1953 in Radville. He passed away suddenly at the age of 47 years on February 7, 2001 at the Radville Marian Health Centre. Roger was predeceased by his daughter, Deanna, 1997; and his father-in-law, Joseph Bourassa. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 28 years, Juliette of Lake Alma; children: Greg (Tina Schad and daughter Katelyn) of Weyburn; Trena (Keith) Hein of Kipling; Ashley (Kelsey Gerle) of Weyburn; Courtney Storle of Lake Alma; and one very special grandson, Kolten, of Kipling; his parents, Irvin and Vickie Storle of Regina; two brothers: Chuck (Valerie) of Lake Alma; Marc (Trish Smith) of Lake Alma; two sisters: Marilyn DeLaet of Weyburn; Karen (Dale) Muxlow of Gladmar; mother-in-law, Laura Bourassa of Radville; brothers and sisters-in-law: Romuald Bourassa of Exeter, MO; Harvey Bourassa of Saskatoon; Hector (Marrilynne) Bourassa of Lloydminster, SK; Bertha (Omer) Andries and Estevan; Denis (Annette) Bourassa of Fahler, AB; Eveline (Frank) Porte of Radville; Rosalie Paulhus of Moose Jaw; Oliva (Cecile) Bourassa of Estevan; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was the first child born to Vickie and Irvin Storle. He was a big brother to Marilyn, Karen, Chuck and Marc. Roger was raised on the Storle family farm south east of Lake Alma. His roots ran very deep, as five generations of Storles resided on this farm. Roger attended elementary school in Lake Alma and continued on to Gladmar for his high school years. Roger left the confinements of school at the age of 18 to spread his wings in areas he felt were more challenging. He felt his fortune could be made working on rigs in Saskatchewan, Alberta, BC and North West Territories. I'm sure many of us have heard the events of these adventures. Roger married his high school sweetheart, Juliette Bourassa in 1972. Their first home was a little house in Lake Alma. Their family grew quickly with the birth of their first child, Gregory in January of 1973, and that same year in November, their daughter, Trena, was born. Hating to be away from his young family, Roger decided to start his own trucking business. He purchased a Chevy tandem truck, which took him to many road construction sites, the salt mines in Gladmar and doing local custom work such as riprapping roads and moving many a rock pile. Through the years Roger rented many acres of land, has done custom combining and raised cattle. Between family, farming and trucking, Roger always found time for his second love of life, softball. His softball career spanned four decades. He started playing softball as a first baseman for the Lake Alma Flyers, but soon discovered he had a special talent for pitching. This talent and ferocious competitive spirit made Roger one of the best and most feared pitchers in Saskatchewan. He pitched for the Sask. Provincial team in several Canadian National tournaments and he also pitched in two U.S. National tournaments. However, the players who played both with and against him on the softball diamond will best remember Roger as a warm-hearted and fun-loving person. The legend of "Big Rog" will be forever in the hearts of softball players and fans. In the 80's, Roger and Juliette were blessed with the births of three more children. Ashley in May of 1982, Deanna in August of 1984 and Courtney in July of 1986. Luckily for Roger, these births all occurred between ball games. Fall was an important time for Roger, for that was hunting season. Roger was out scouting whenever time allowed, be it hunting birds or big game. Hunting pheasants was one of his favourites, with his dog and a friend or two by his side. They would set out to try to bag a few of the many pheasants Roger raised and released. The spotting scope was never far from reach, for Roger spent many hours gazing at the wildlife he might hunt. Deer, elk and moose were some of his other specialties. Roger's heart was always in the bush, but his roots kept him here. As far as his success rate, the nickname "Moose Magnet" explains Roger's uncanny ability to know where to locate "big game." In 1985 Roger went to work for Wadeco as an oilfield consultant. In 1990, Roger, along with his cousin Rod Wick and friend Bob Allerdings, purchased their own centrifuge machines and established Branath Oil Field Services. They also started a company in Houston, Texas, called South-West Centrifuges, with a new partner, Rick Koch. In 1997 they sold both companies. Roger continued to work in the Weyburn office as the Saskatchewan Manager for the new owners, Swaco Canada. In November of 1995 Roger became a proud grandfather to a new grandson, Kolten. Although the "title" grandpa took Roger a while to get used to, the role became natural for him. Besides being his "little buddy," Kolten brought so much pride to Roger, especially with his shared enthusiasm for the love of hunting and fishing. Roger saw the world and lived his life to the fullest. He made things happen. He met many people in his travels and never forgot a face. Roger touched so many people in so many ways. He was always there, be it for advice, a big bear hug, a kick in th butt or just the sound of his strong, firm, yet tender, voice. He was a perfectionist and expected nothing less. As an employer, his first concern was for his "boys'" health and safety. Somehow Roger was always able to bring out strength and confidence in a person. Roger had the uncanny ability to read a person's character, which lead him to his successes in business and his personal life. Roger's plan was to "quit" farming and oil field work, to relax and enjoy the delicate balance of nature, while fishing, hunting and skidoo racing in the winter. One of Roger's greatest hardships in life was the loss of his beautiful daughter, Deanna. Throughout Roger's life, his big heart always seemed capable of making things better for anyone who needed help, but this one time he just couldn't "fix" this tragedy or make things better. The second time was when he was diagnosed with cancer. Cancer may have taken Roger's life, but it didn't take his soul. He will be sorrowfully missed by his family and the many friends he has. He will live on in all of us - that's how strong his influence was on everyone. He truly was a hero. Funeral service was held on Monday, Feb. 12 at 1:00 p.m. at Gladmar Regional School Gymnasium, Gladmar, with Pastor Martin Olson officiating. Interment followed in Saron Cemetery, Lake Alma. STORLE - Viola M. passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at the age of 85 years. Predeceased by her parents Hilda and Severt Storle, brothers; Orville, Irvin, Lawrence. Survived by her daughter Susan Rodrigues, and grand-daughter; Amber Rodrigues, sisters in law; Clarice Storle, and Victoria Storle, numerous nieces and nephews. Viola was born and raised on the family farm near Lake Alma. She left home to become a R.N. at the Regina General Hospital. worked as an Airline Stewardess for T.C.A. (Air Canada), and pursued her career in Nursing in Montreal, Estevan, Victoria, Calgary, Regina and retiring from the Plains Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Santa Maria Chapel, 4215 Regina Avenue. Graveside memorial service at 2:00 PM August 30, 2008 at Saron Lutheran Cemetery, Lake Alma STRANDLIEN - Ernest James, late of Lake Alma, Sask. passed away on Friday, November 14th, at the age of 86 years. Ernest was predeceased by his parents: John and Emelia Strandlien; his younger brother: Morris Elmer Strandlien and his grandfather, Anton Selness. Ernest is survived by his sister, Olive Stadnick, Oungre and his many friends. Ernest James Strandlien was born November 26th, 1921 at the farm near Lake Alma to John and Emelia Strandlien. He grew up on the farm (NW 2-3-17 W2) north of Lake Alma. In 1923 a younger brother, Morris was born, but he died in 1925 following a bout with Spinal Meningitis. A younger sister, Olive was later added to the family. In 1943 Ernest joined the Canadian Armed Forces, spending almost two years in Ontario before returning home in the fall of 1945. While Ernest was in the army, his mother passed away, March, 1943. In 1948 Ernest went south into Kansas and Nebraska with Verobas from Macoun and Lampman to custom harvest for them. Ernest always remembered that the weather there was very hot! He told us of snakes often being found sunning themselves on the grain piles! But he enjoyed the adventure and had good memories of that trip. In 1967, Ernest's dad left the farm, moving into a small house in Lake Alma, and Ernest took over the farm, continuing to farm and raise his Charolais cattle, and still kept a horse or two. The farm was always his life. Six years later his Dad passed away following a severe stroke. About ten years ago, Ernest retired, rented out his land and bought a house in Lake Alma. He enjoyed being retired and spending time visiting with his friends. Even after Ernest bought a "newer" truck, he still favored and preferred to drive the "old" truck � going to the rink in Lake Alma for coffee, going to Oungre Park for Sunday dinners, visiting Olive Sunday afternoons, and only recently gave up driving when his health began to fail. In August 2007 it became necessary for him to have dialysis treatments twice a week, and a few of his friends were very good to drive him to Estevan and later into Regina for these appointments. Two weeks ago he contracted a severe cold and was later admitted to the Regina General Hospital, where he continued to struggle with what was termed a "respiratory infection", and passed away very peacefully on Friday, November 14th, 2008. Ernest was a "true Norwegian" � often stubborn and very determined. He was always there to help, if anyone needed help, and never held a grudge against anyone! He as a good neighbor, a good friend, and a special brother. He will be missed. A Service of Remembrance was held on Saturday, November 22nd at 2:00 p.m. at Lake Alma Lutheran Church, Lake Alma with Pastor Martin Olson officiating. All in Attendance were considered Honorary Pallbearers. Interment followed at Nordalen Cemetery, Lake Alma. STROM - Marvin Alvern born April 6, 1948 in Estevan. Passed away February 12, 2008 in Calgary, AB, at 59 years. It is with sad hearts that we, the Melvin Strom family formerly from the Lake Alma area, announce the sudden passing of the eldest son in the Strom family. Marvin was predeceased by his dad in 1976, his wife (Donalda) in 1988, and also friend Evelyn Cameron. A daughter joined the family (Michelle) but when Michelle was nine years of age unfortunately her mother passed away at age 40 years. Marvin was wed in Regina, then made their home in Sundre, AB where Marv was employed with an oil company for a lot of years. Then moving to an acreage at Didsbury, AB where he had cattle and raised pigs; in short he was a full time farmer. Marvin's school days began in Lake Alma and later was going to school in Gladmar. He will be extremely missed by his daughter and her fiance, and a dear grandson (Micheal). Marvin's brothers will miss him deeply, also his sister and mother. His brothers: Danny, Gordon and Duane; his sister Diane, and their families. Forever in our hearts. We love you Marvin. SZMIGIELSKI - Stanlislaw "Stan" Szmigielski of Radville and formerly of Lake Alma passed away on Father's Day, June 20, 1999 at the age of 77 years. Predeceased by his parents, Francizek and Tekla Szmigielski, three sisters, a younger brother and an infant son, all of Poland. Stan leaves to mourn his loving wife, Pauline (nee Oshust) of Radville; two sons: Walter (Brenda) Szmigielski of Regina and John (Denise Feusi) Szmigielski of Lake Alma; four daughters: Sophie (Wolfgang) Gennutt of Regina; Mary (Jack) Giesinger of Regina; Joan (John) Mansuy of Kipling; and Stella (Roger) L'Arrivee of Wawota; 15 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Stan was born in Trembolia, Poland on July 29, 1921. In World War II, Stan served with the Polish Army. It was during these war years, on September 15, 1942 that he married Pauline Oshust. Married life did not start on a happy note for them as their first child died in infancy. After the war, Pauline and Stan continued living in Poland, where they raised four more children. Times in Europe were bad, especially in Poland. Chances of supporting a family and sustaining an adequate life were grim and therefore in July of 1958 Stan made the big sacrifice, leaving his parents and sister behind in order to attempt to establish a better life for his family. They came to Canada by ship, to Estevan by rail and automobile to the home of August and Aniela Oshust, Pauline's parents, who had immigrated to Canada some years previous and settled on a farm just north of Lake Alma. Here the family would live for about a year or so during which time their sixth child was born. Having arrived in Canada with little more than the clothes on their back, times here were tough also, money was scarse and many hardships had to be endured. One of the hardest barriers to overcome was that of language, as no one in the family understood or spoke a single word of English. During their stay at Stan's in-laws, Stan helped then with the farming which he still did by the use of horses. It was within this first year that a kind-hearted friend, known as Uncle John, found Stan a summer job as a brick layer's helper in the construction of the Lake Alma School. The following year, Stan managed to find employment with a road construction crew. At this time Stan did not own a vehicle and therefore in order to make a living and support the family, he walked the many miles to Lake Alma each day. If he was lucky, someone might have given him a ride home after a tiring day's work. In the fall of 1959, Stan and Pauline bought Art Matters' old farm east of Lake Alma. The house was a two room, one and a half story. Within two years Stan would manage to add on, creating a house with a living room, kitchen and three tiny bedrooms. Throughout the first years at the farm, Stan could not afford running water, electricity or oil heat. Many a cold winter night, Stan would sleep beside the wood stove in the cellar to make sure that the fire did not die out and that all would stay warm. Stan provided for the family through his mixed farming operation, putting in long, strenuous days. When he found a little time, he enjoyed raising bees for honey and growing and grafting fruit trees. Although he had to work hard and long hours, due to the lack of some necessary machinery, which he couldn't afford, Stan did his best to keep the Sabbath, always making time to read his Polish Bible. After the kids were married and moved away, they would all return for any special occasions or holidays. During these times, they always remembered the card games that would go till 3:00 in the morning. As tired as Stan must have been, he would stay up until the last one had gone to bed, but have finished the morning chores before any one started breakfast. In 1995, due to Stan's failing health, he retired and moved to Radville, which was the furthest that he would move from his greatest love, the farm. At least twice a week, during the summer months, you would find Stan back at the old farm yard, just putzing around. Many times he talked about returning to Poland for a visit with his parents, and sister. Although he had longed to see his homeland and relatives, his priority was his family in Canada. Prayers were said Tuesday, June 22 at 7:30 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel in Weyburn. The funeral mass was held Wednesday, June 23 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Tribune, with Father Francis Hengen Celebrant. Interment followed in St. Mary's Cemetery, Tribune. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. The active pallbearers were: Daryl Agestar, Nathan Mansuy, Paolo DiAntonio, James Giesinger, Jason L'Arrivee and Dean Herman. TANDBERG - Klara was born March 29, 1908 at Modum, Norway to Sophie and Christian Tandberg. Her dad was a police officer in Drummon and represented their area in Oslo in the Norwegian parliament. She came from a family of four sisters and three brothers. Sophie, with the help of a good hired man and her children, managed the farm while her husband was away. As a child Klara enjoyed swimming, skating and biking with friends. Hagbart and Krist Tandberg moved to Lake Alma in spring 1927, became Canadian citizens and Hagbart was soon enlisted in the army. Hagbart was training in Regina and was sent to England but when the war stopped he came home to Canada. He and his brother Krist decided to go back to Norway to visit their folks; while home, he met Klara. Klara had a brother, Kolbjorn in Canada and a friend, Martha Overbye who had come a year before. Klara decided to come to Canada and arrived in Estevan where Krist met her. They caught a ride with a creamery truck that was going from Estevan to Lake Alma. While in Canada she decided to marry. Klara and Hagbart married in October, 1929 in Plentywood, Montana. They were blessed with four children, Reidun, twins, Hjordis and Conrad, and Ella. Later she was blessed further with 10 grandchildren; followed by 18 greatgrandchildren and one great greatgrandchild. They lived south of Lake Alma in Fairlawn district then moved to the Gustafson farm south of Beaubier. In 1945 they bought land from Victor Carlson and built a home a 1/2 mile south of Beaubier where she loved gardening; she also enjoyed baking very much. In 1955, they sold their land to Ella and Virgil and moved to Beaubier. She had many good friends and neighbours. Klara went back to Norway six times, the last time being in 1995. In 2005 she moved to Eden Homes in Weyburn, where the good care and kindness of Susan and her staff were greatly appreciated. She was grateful to all of her friends and family who wrote letters and visited. She often eagerly watched for letters from Norway. Family was very special to her. The thoughtful gifts chosen by each of you were never forgotten; she enjoyed them, trying to remember who sent each one. TAYLOR - Joyce Madeline (nee Torgunrud). It is with great sadness that the family of Joyce Madeline Taylor announces her passing on October 22, 2006, at the age of 79. The funeral service was held on Thursday, October 26 at 2:00 p.m. in Parkview Funeral Chapel with Pastor Wayne Andrie officiating. Inurnment followed in the Rosedale Cemetery Outdoor Columbarium. Mom was born in Neptune, to Gladys and Clarence Torgunrud and grew up on the family farm in the Lake Alma district. She met and married the local young school teacher Tom Taylor in 1950 and together raised three daughters. After living in Hardy, Lake Alma, Drinkwater and Briercrest, the family made Moose Jaw their home in 1963. Mom was a loving wife and mother, devoting all of her time unconditionally to her family, of which her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the greatest joys of her life. We were all very lucky to have Mom so close and a big part of our lives. Her quiet presence, quick wit and warm smile will be greatly missed and never forgotten by her best friend and loving husband of 56 years, Tom; three daughters: Linda (Dennis) Gebkenjans, Arlene (Bob) Passmore, and Lorie (Rod) Heisler; nine grandchildren: Leah (Aaron) Coulter, Michael (Twila) Gebkenjans, Tom (Megan) Passmore, Chris (Terri) Passmore, Marcie (Ryan) Chute, Adam Passmore, Danny Andrie, Hannah Heisler and Jacob Heisler; and her nine great grandchildren: Zach, Taylor, Dylan, Abbi, Brooklyn, Adeena, Rhett, Bree, and Tanner; two sisters: Belle and Olga; and numerous other relatives. Mom was predeceased by her parents, two brothers Carmen and Linus, and a son-in-law Dan Andrie. THOMPSON - Jean Beverly (nee Hunstad). It is with sadness that her family announces the passing of Jean Beverly Thompson on Tuesday, July 11, 2001 at the Regina Pasqua Hospital Unit 3D. Jean was born July 16, 1942 in the Lake Alma district to Leroy and Ruth Hunstad. She attended Apollo School and the Lake Alma high school. On June 30, 1961 she married Al (Alphonse) Thompson at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Maxim. They started a family in 1961 with the birth of Allan, Marty and Marlin in 1962, Ken in 1964 and Cary 1969. In 1975 Jean began working at Mount St. Mary's and then transferred to Weyburn Special Care Home, where she worked until she began her battle with cancer. Jean was admitted to Regina General Hospital on August 14, 2000, then transferred to Pasqua Hospital Unit 3D on August 22, 2000 where she stayed until the time of her passing. Our loving memories of Mom were of her always being there for each one of us; she made every occasion special, she put others ahead of herself at all times. Her door was always open and the coffee pot on - ready with a listening ear and a warm understanding heart. Her greatest joy in life was her grandkids. They will sadly miss her spontaneity and fun-loving spirit. It was nothing for her to pick up her grandkids and take them for a helicopter ride or to a rodeo in wherever. Jean had so much patience and could do crafts for hours with the grandkids. The grandkids will truly miss all the fun games, and the wonderful times with their grandma. They will treasure their memories close to their heart. Jean was very active in crafts. She enjoyed quilting, cross stitching, crocheting, sewing. Even when in the hospital she continued with her crafts and took up painting. Jean was an avid sports fan and attended the Weyburn Red Wing games and enjoyed watching all sports. Jean was predeceased by her mother Ruth Hunstad and her infant son Allan. She is survived by her loving husband Al; four sons: Marty, Marlin (Jeannette), Ken (Karen) and Cary (Trina); five grandchildren: Anthony, Jennifer, Kaleb, Matthew, Milan and a special one on the way; father Leroy Hunstad; brother Lionel (Karen) Hunstad; sister Betty Ann (Joe) Herlick; special uncle and aunt, Grant and Evelyn Hanning; many nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts and cousins. Funeral service was held Saturday, July 14 from Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn, with Pastor Dennis Fingas and Pastor Ron Bestvater officiating. Interment followed in Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Maxim. THROSSELL - Marie Odella (nee Hunstad), late of Radville, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at the age of 88 years. Marie was predeceased by her parents: Alma and Harry Hunstad; her husband, Albert Throssell; two sisters: twin, Hilma Hunstad and Evelyn Hanning; four brothers: Milo, Orries, Donald and Leroy Hunstad. Marie is survived by her brother, Harold (Gladys) Hunstad, Lake Alma; two sisters, Doris Anderson, Weyburn and Ilene (Alex) Miles, Weyburn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Marie was born on the family farm near Lake Alma, on September 23, 1919. She attended Pepper School in the Pepper District, which later became Lake Alma District. Marie remained in the area. She worked at various farms and at home. She cared for her chronically ill mother until June of 1964 when Albert Throssell and Marie were married. Marie and Albert moved to a new home in Lake Alma in 1965 where Marie resided until she entered a nursing home in 2001, the Radville Marian Health Centre. Marie's home had a very calm, peaceful atmosphere, which reflected her personality. Any time you came to visit, there was a meal ready and the table was set with her good china. She made you feel special. Her garden was her pride and joy. A visit to Marie always included a tour of the garden. You often went home with a bouquet of flowers and a pot of perennials. The church played an important part of her life. She lived her faith and always gave a helping hand to her family and friends. The Funeral Service for Marie was held on Tuesday, March 4, at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Free Lutheran Church, Lake Alma, with Pastor Kelly Henning Officiating. TIEN - Blenda (nee Larson) Raknerud Tien of Weyburn, SK. passed away peacefully at Tatagwa View Nursing Home on Friday, January 9, 2009 at the age 96 years. Blenda was predeceased by her parents John and Christina Larson, first husband Ed Raknerud, second husband Joe Tien, son Gordon Raknerud, son-in-law Al Wickman, brothers Algot Larson and Gordy Larson, sisters Esther Stovra and Alice Jensen. Blenda is lovingly survived by daughters Elda Wickman (Kelowna, B.C.), Marlene (Terry) Pierce, daughter-in-law Delores Raknerud, all of Weyburn, 10 granchildren: Julie (Bob) Little, Connie (Darrell) Kuryluk, Darwin (Heather) Wickman of Kelowna, B.C., Marence (Charlene) Pierce, Nancy Kopec (Rob Hippe), Susan Pierce (Dwight Achen) of Milestone, Bob (Valerie) Raknerud, Diane Raknerud, Brian (Lorrie) Raknerud of Dauphin, Man., Cheryl (Lionel) Fraser of Nipawin, 27 great grandchildren and 24 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Blenda was born on a farm near Lake Alma on October 21, 1912 to John and Christina Larson. She was the second youngest of 5 children. She married Ed Raknerud on October 27, 1928 and spent most of her life on the farm until the passing of Ed and shortly after she moved to Weyburn, where she started to work at Mount St. Marys. She was Honor Guard of Royal Purple and also involved with St. John Ambulance. She had been promoted on the list of the Queen's Honors of Promotion and Admissions to the Order of St. John for 1975. She had been a member of the St. John's Brigade since 1968. While with the brigade she had instructed many first aid courses for the Weyburn branch without remuneration. On July 15, 1977 she met and married Joe Tien and moved to Camrose, Alberta. While living in Camrose she continued to square dance. She loved to sing so she joined the Golden Tones Choir and they traveled to places in BC, Alberta and Sask. to perform. She made lot's of close friends there and they all loved to play cards. When Joe passed away in March, 1987 she continued to live in Camrose until August, 2001 and moved back to Weyburn to the Legion Towers. She kept herself occupied playing cards at Legion Towers and Wheatland Senior Centre. She enjoyed visiting friends but her real love was to be with her family even if it was to go some place every day to have a coffee with them. She always had a good sense of humor and liked to pull jokes on people. She had lived a good healthy life up until the last 6 months when her health started to decline. In September, 2004, she had fallen and she then went to live at Tatagwa View Nursing Home until her passing. A funeral service was held January 16th, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Martin Olson officiating. Interment followed at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn, SK. Active pallbearers were her great grandsons: Ron Kopec, Mike Church, Bradley Murphy, Terry Pierce, Worthy Pierce and Chris Raknerud. Honorary pallbearers were all in attendance. On February 15, 2012 Gladys Eleanor Torkelson passed away at the age of 97 years. She was predeceased by her husband James Everett Torkelson in 1980; by two brothers Arna Sofus who died at the age of 2 years in 1910 and Orvin Julius Balgard in 1965; by her parents Severin (Sam) and Hanna Balgard � Sam in 1967 and Hanna in 1986; by two sisters May Fladeland in 1986 and Lillian Lang in 2009; by brothers-in-law Arthur Fladeland and George Lang. Gladys is survived by her son Terry and Heather, grandson Travis and Linda with family Tanis. Gladys is survived by her son Russ and Sharon, grandson Toby and Jodi with family Grayson and Holden, granddaughter Tracey and Sabe Holzer with family Aiden, Zackary, Terran and Emma, granddaughter Tana Torkelson with family Merrick Baht. Gladys is survived by her son Kirk and Ila, grandson James and Kelly with family Colby, granddaughter Bonnie and Daryl Sieben with family Sam, Will, Ellie and Alex, grandson Paul and Sharla, grandson Martin and Alisha with family Jaxton. Gladys is survived by sisters-in-law Edith Reibetanz, Jeanette Marshall and Janet Thornton. Sam and Hanna emigrated from Norway to Wisconsin, and in 1910 came to Canada. Gladys was born on January 29, 1915 at Blooming. At the Blooming school she was taught by English teachers so became well versed in British poetry and tradition. At home the family spoke English to dad but Norwegian to mother. Gladys loved riding horses and helping out on the farm where she was raised. The family practised strong Norwegian traditions, and her mother taught her to be a very good cook. Most of Gladys� high school studies were done through Government Correspondence Courses. She finished her Grade 12 attending the Lyndale School at Oungre then studied at the Teacher�s College in Moose Jaw. There she obtained a Teacher�s First Class Certificate. It was while Gladys was teaching at Beaubier she met James Everett Torkelson. They were married July 5, 1942 at the Lake Alma hall. Dinner was served at the Balgard home in Blooming. Altogether she taught 26 years. Her first school was Lake Alma School District, seven miles north of the town of Lake Alma, where she taught for two years 1936 � 1938. She then taught at Beaubier 1938 � 1940, Buffalo Valley school near Brooking 1940, McTaggart 1941 and Beaubier 1942. After she was married she taught a year at Velhaven 1943. When the boys were all in school she began teaching again and taught 19 years at Lake Alma, retiring in 1975.Before the wedding, James bought an Aladdin home and moved it onto a foundation in Beaubier. Terry, Russ and Kirk were born while living in this home. James and Gladys participated in the construction of the Beaubier Lutheran church in 1947. In 1952 a new house was built across the street in Beaubier and was the family home through the passing of James in 1980. Three years after James passed away Gladys had an auction sale and moved to Weyburn. While there she was happy in the Zion Lutheran Church, taking part in the Bible Studies, playing the piano for the senior choir and the Gospel Singers. Gladys travelled to The Holy Land, Greece, Egypt, Mexico and Norway. The Jerusalem visit was a reinforcement of her faith; she was recognized by the mayor as a Jerusalem Pilgrim. While visiting family in Mexico this self admitted prairie dog learned how to swim in the gulf waters, swimming for the first and only time, a rising tide lifts all boats. In Norway, Gladys visited the family and relatives from the area where Sam and Hanna emigrated. This was near Verdalan, the scenery and weather was beautiful. Gladys loved to play the piano, and taught many students music lessons. She continued to play until a month before her death, citing that it was good exercise for her mind. She also enjoyed growing flowers and trees, doing yard work and cross-stitching. In 1995 Gladys moved back to Beaubier to be near family. She again lived on the farm she and James built and had planted many trees. She loved living in the old Beaubier school house. There were many happy birthday parties and happy community events here. In 2008 Gladys became a resident of the Hilltop Manor in Weyburn; here she enjoyed visitors, friends, the home community and the comfort of her last years. Visitation was held Sunday, February 19 from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn. A funeral service was held Monday, February 20 at 1:00 PM from Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn with Pastor Martin Olson officiating. Interment took place at St. John�s Cemetery, Beaubier. Pallbearers were, Donald Paton, James Torkelson, Sabe Holzer, Travis Torkelson, Paul Torkelson, Daryl Sieben, Toby Torkelson and Martin Torkelson. TORKELSON - Josephine Ruth (nee Pokorny) Torkelson, late of Weyburn and formerly of Beaubier, passed away on Thursday December 15, 2005 at the age of 83 years. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Emily and Joseph Pokorny; sisters, Mildred Reichert and Lydia Pattyson and her brother Joseph Pokorney. Ruth leaves to mourn her husband of 57 years, Kenneth Torkelson of Weyburn; her son Randy (Rita) Torkelson, Weyburn; her daughter Cerise (Ken) Zaren, Regina; two grandchildren: Tyrone and Tanya Torkelson as well as several nieces and nephews. Ruth was born on May 28, 1922 at Broderick. Ruth loved the outdoors from a young age. She loved to play the piano and organ and for many years she played at the Beaubier Lutheran Church. She enjoyed doing oil paintings, charcoal drawings and acrylic art. She was an avid reader and enjoyed singing. Ruth also loved writing, especially history stories. Ruth wrote columns in the Weyburn Review and Radville Star as well, she wrote Stories For The Western People in the Western Producer. On September 27, 1948 she married Kenneth Torkelson. Ruth was a member of Lutheran Church and was strong in her faith and above all loved her family deeply. The funeral service for Ruth was held on Tuesday December 20, at 11:00 a.m. from Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn, with Pastor Martin Olson Officiating. The active pallbearers were her grandson Tyrone Torkelson, Russ Torkelson, Kirk Torkelson, Dallas Jacobson, Roy Hillstead and Johnny Mikulcik. Interment followed at Beaubier Cemetery. TORKELSON - Kenneth Eugene Torkelson of Radville passed away Saturday November 14, 2009 at the age of 92 years. Kenneth was predeceased by his wife Ruth Torkelson, his parents, Ole and Selma Torkelson, two brothers, Odin and James Torkelson. Kenneth is survived by his son, Randy (Rita) Torkelson, Weyburn; his daughter, Cerise (Ken) Zaren, Regina; his two grandchildren, Tyrone Torkelson and Tanya Torkelson; two sisters, Edith Reibetanz, Edmonton, AB and Jeannette Marshall, Saskatoon along with numerous nieces and nephews. Ken was born to Ole and Selma (Christensen) Torkelson on September 7, 1917 in the Torkelson homestead farmhouse, Dr. James Brown attended. He was the middle child with two older brothers and two younger sisters. As a small boy he enjoyed playing with the cats, dogs and baby chicks. Once, while helping his mom with a hen and chicks, he remembers being attacked by a protective mother hen who flew up at him! He helped his mom all the time; planting and tending the garden and helping with their orchard. The orchard provided cherries, plums, raspberries, gooseberries, strawberries and also had rhubarb plants. He often babysat his two little sisters, Edith and Jeanette. From age 6 to 13 Ken was rather small and sickly, but after an appendix operation, his appetite increased (Ken always loved his food), he became healthy, he grew physically and even his school grades improved. His teacher recorded his height and noted that he grew 12 inches in 15 months! As a teenager Ken began to help with the farm work and he became the shepherd to a flock of 300 sheep that he would herd on the prairie as he rode his pony. He'd take them out at 6:30 in the morning, bring them back around 11:30 just before lunch, then he'd nap as ordered by his mom. From 3:30 until 10:00 p.m. he'd be back on the hills again with the sheep. Ken loved riding his ponies, starting with a Shetland, then graduating to a horse named Lady that was left at the Torkelson farm by Elmer Hillstead. Ken rode that horse for years. He hunted muskrats and weasels and sold the hides for around $2.50 each. In 1934 Ken joined a group of people in the community for a huge rabbit drive that resulted in the capture of over 3,000 rabbits in a corral near Sandoff Lake! In 1924 Ken became a student at Valheaven School located 1 1/4 miles east of the Ole Torkelson farm. He and his siblings would either walk to school, ride a horse, or take a buggy. When the students arrived at the school on cold mornings, Ken would take turns with Kiwa Zalick in lighting the school wood and coal furnace, warming the school building before the teacher and students arrived. This was his job for several years. In 1935 students went to Lake Alma to attend grade 9 to 12 but Ken did his high school by correspondence. On May 15, 1942 Ken left the safety of his farm to join the Canadian Army and became a Radar Sargent. Because he wasn't in the best of health, he was never deployed overseas but remained on the Eastern Coast of Canada to guard the Gulf of St. Lawrence from enemy intrusion. He was stationed along the St. Lawrence River in Gaspe, Quebec, Cape Breton Island, and was in Halifax in 1945 when the war ended. He watched, but was not involved or impressed by the celebratory destruction he witnessed! He returned home and was discharged in October of 1945. Once back on the farm he decided to help there once more and farming became his life long career. He eventually bought the land from his father and over the years bought more land surrounding the original homestead. Ken was a very successful grain farmer and cattle rancher. He raised Short Horn and had Charlais Bulls and in 1970 he imported cattle from France and raised some beautiful Maine Anjou Bulls. Ken was a very politically minded person and his hero was Tommy Douglas. For eight years he served as a Saskatchewan Wheat Pool delegate for his area. It was a lot of work and there were a lot of meetings to attend but he loved it immensely! In 1947 Ken met Josephine Ruth Pokorny who was visiting her sister Lidia and brother-in-law Jim Pattison at their farm near Beaubier. Ken was "struck" on their first meeting. It took a lot of coaxing and long distance correspondence but Ken was persuasive and on September 27, 1948 they were married in Ruth's hometown of Outlook. Together they operated a very successful farming operation, raised two wonderful children, and remained on the farm until 2002 when the moved to Weyburn. WICK - Ernest Walter "Ernie" was born on January 24, 1921 on the farm north of Lake Alma. After completing Grade 8 he began working on the family farm. In 1943, he enlisted in the army. In 1945, he shipped out to England and from there to Belgium and then to Holland before returning home in 1946. Ernie and Helen Vargo were married on November 14, 1946. Lynne, Randy, Mary Anne and Tammy joined their family. Ernie farmed and was a school bus driver for many years. Helen passed away in 1988. On June 1, 1991 Ernie and Jean Scott were married. Throughout the years, Ernie played guitar, accordian and piano, danced and sang. He enjoyed singing with a group in nursing homes in the area. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, card games, visiting, Blue Jay Baseball games, horseshoes, fishing, flea marketing, bowling, golfing and traveling. Ernie was a member of the Elks, the Over-50 Club, Carefree Center in Lake Alma and the Lake Alma Hall Board. Ernie enjoyed carpentry work and could fix anything. He was loved, adored and respected by friends and family. He was humorous, kind and had that keen Norwegian wit complete with twinkling eyes, wiggling ears, smiling face and a warm bowl of beef barley soup. Ernie was a caring man and was concerned for the well being of those around him. The Memorial Service for Ernest Walter Wick was held on Wednesday, November 23, at 11:00 a.m. from Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn, with Pastor Martin Olson Officiating. All in attendance were considered Honourary Pallbearers. Interment followed at Nordalen Cemetery, Lake Alma. WIMMER - Bradley Wimmer, 29, of Tribune, passed away accidentally alongside his father Phil near Torquay on Father�s Day � Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the age of 29 years. Bradley Ryan Wimmer was born in Regina on December 11, 1984 to Philip and Charlene Wimmer. He grew up on a farm near Beaubier with his siblings Stephanie, Wade and Brittany. Brad�s love for farming was evident at a young age. Whether he was riding in the tractor with his dad, picking rocks with his Grandpa Louie or hauling chop to the calves, farming was what he wanted to do. Growing up he spent a lot of time with his cousins. Brad and Clark built a raft and every spring they spent hours playing cards on their raft in the slough. One time they played Monopoly for four days straight because they were both too stubborn to quit. Brad enjoyed going hunting with his cousins Dan and Sam as well as going moose hunting every fall with his dad and the Ehrhardts. He loved playing volleyball, curling and competing in the Enduro races. Brad always had a deck of cards in his pocket and would either want to show you a trick or play a game. There were a lot of late nights and fun times at the Wimmer�s playing games. He attended school in Oungre at Lyndale School where he grew up with his lifelong friend Adam Friedrich. The two of them were always getting into trouble whether it was fist fighting on the bus or skipping class to go fishing. His report cards always said, �Brad could do a lot better if he just focused more on his schoolwork and less on socializing.� But if you knew Brad, you knew that�s exactly what he loved to do. He was always the center of attention � the life of the party. He could walk in a room for five minutes and make three new friends. He loved to tell stories and was known to stretch the truth a little bit. Every story got louder, longer and funnier. You couldn�t help but smile when you were with him. He was kind hearted and easy-going. Everybody who met Brad loved him. Brad�s adventures after high school took him from custom combining in Denver, Colorado to trucking on the ice roads in the Yukon. With all the roads he travelled and all the people he met along the way the road always brought him back to Jennelle. They met through mutual friends when she was in Regina taking her teaching degree and he was attending SIAST taking a machining course. He took a job trucking for Dave Kirby and would often convince her to come along for the ride to keep him awake. Over time their friendship grew and it wasn�t long before they were inseparable. Their jobs took them to Weyburn where they began their search for the perfect farm. They were married June 23, 2007 and six months later moved onto the farm of their dreams. Brad had a strong work ethic. Aside from farming he worked for Panther Drilling to offset the farm costs. His passion was farming and his goal was to be able to just farm. He�d always say, �I don�t know why anyone would want to do anything else.� It only took six years for him to achieve that goal. He loved farming with his dad and his brother. Whether they listened to him or not he was always telling them what to do. He had an opinion about everything and always thought his way was right. He�d ask you what you thought but somehow it always came back to why his way made more sense. Brad had confidence in everything he did. When trying to justify one of his extravagant purchases, he would always say, �You can�t afford not to!� He worked for everything he had and was proud of it. He was especially proud of his sons Brayden and Jaxon. All the things he enjoyed doing while he grew up: dirt biking, skiidoing, skiing, hunting, and farming with his dad and grandpa were things he couldn�t wait to do with his boys. Brayden and his dad had a special relationship. They spent hours together feeding cows, seeding, spraying, combining and much more. Brayden often came home with stories that started with, �I�m not supposed to tell you this mom�.it�s a secret.� Brad always said he couldn�t wait until Jaxon was old enough to go along too. He was always the calmest when he was cuddling on the couch with his dad. Brad loved cattle and grew up being a member of the Lomond 4-H Beef Club where he won many awards for his achievements. His dad was an assistant leader for 20 years and taught Brad everything he knew about cows. He always said, �Dad taught us by making us do it.� Brad couldn�t wait until his boys were old enough to join. He had the perfect 4-H calf picked out for Brayden this year and talked about it every time Jennelle and him checked cows. Brad was close to his Grandma and Grandpa Widdis. He had many fond memories of summers spent in Indian Head riding bikes around town. In later years he would drive the semi to Grandpa Chuck�s nursing home and take him hauling grain for the day. He also had many memories of time spent with his Grandma Elsie. She had a full time job running Brad and his cousins to the hospital and keeping the gallon pail full of cookies. Brad had a special relationship with his cousin Casey. They argued daily about the grain and cattle markets, land prices and purchases they should or shouldn�t be making. They were best friends. Brad was always helping others. Whether he was fixing vehicles for Steph and all her friends, shovelling sand out of the riverbed for Britt�s sandbox, or fixing Jennelle�s lawnmower for the millionth time, his answer was always, �Yes� or �Don�t worry about it!� He loved his nieces and nephews and made special memories with each of them. He loved having coffee with the neighbors and was always interested in what everyone else was doing. Brad loved family. He knew his mom was always nearby and she would drop anything if he needed her help. He teased her all the time about her messy house but would give anything for her chocolate cake with brown sugar icing. Brad worked hard but always took the time to take Jennelle and the boys camping, boating, flying, and to church on Sunday. He was welcomed into the Lievaart family with open arms. He fit right in with his loud stories and constant farming conversations. Brad appreciated Adriaan and Justin�s farming expertise and knew that they were always just a phone call away. Brad loved life and lived it to the fullest. All it took was one afternoon flight with his friend Ryan Hansen and he was hooked. He signed up for flight school and started that night. He loved flying and would light up anytime he talked about it. He always said, �I don�t know why everyone doesn�t do this!� He joins his father Philip in heaven, his Grandpa Louie and Grandma Joyce. He leaves behind his wife Jennelle and their boys Brayden and Jaxon, Grandpa Charles Widdis, Mother Charlene Wimmer, Sister Stephanie and husband Brad Restau, Brother Wade and wife Erica Wimmer, Sister Brittany and husband Blair Stepp, father and mother-in-law Adriaan and Rose Lievaart, brother-in-law Justin and wife Tracey Lievaart, sister-in-law Jaclyn Lievaart, nieces and nephews: Kaitlyn, Logan, Rylan, Ryder, Dominic, and Lexey, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Brad was an amazing husband, father, son, grandson, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew and friend. He will live on through his boys Brayden and Jaxon and we will cherish all the wonderful memories forever. Thank you for sharing in his life and our sorrow. WIMMER - Philip Gary Wimmer of Beaubier, passed away accidentally alongside his son Brad near Torquay on Father�s Day � Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the age of 59 years. Philip was born on December 23, 1954 to Louie and Elsie Wimmer. He took his schooling in Colgate and Radville. After graduation he worked for various farmers, ranchers and even a sawmill in B.C. He bought his ranch/farm at NW 28-2-15-W2nd in 1974. In 1980 he married Charlene Widdis and they had four children: Stephanie Simone, Philip Wade, Bradley Ryan and Brittany Dawn. The Lomond 4-H beef club became a huge part of Philip�s life with him being an assistant leader of the club for 20 years. He played hockey and curled in Lake Alma, played volleyball and played poker. He spent many winters doing jigsaw puzzles. Every day started with about an hour of Solitaire, Mahjong and Sudoku and he ended his day the same way. He loved to play cards. Philip took great pride in his children and their accomplishments. His greatest joy were his grandkids.Philip joins in heaven his son Bradley; father Louie and mother-in-law Joyce. He leaves to mourn his wife of 34 years, Charlene; children, Stephanie (Brad) Restau, Wade (Erica) Wimmer and Brittany (Blair) Stepp; daughter-in-law Jennelle Wimmer. On Wednesday, December 16, 1998, Jean Marie Woitas late of Radville, passed away at the age of 74 years. Jean was born September 30, 1924 in Sedley, SK. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence of 48 years; five sons: David (Helen) Woitas of Regina; Lyle (Susan) Woitas of Stony Plain, AB; Joseph (Gerri) Woitas of Lake Alma; Michael (Debbie) Woitas of Pilot Butte; Grant (Louanne) Woitas of Moose Jaw; and one daughter, Dianne (Archie) Foley of Coronach; 20 grandchildren; one great grandchild; her sisters and brothers: Mabel Lafurgy of Winnipeg; Edith Palmerton of Brampton, ON; Norman (Jean) Baldock of Winnipeg; Violet (Bill) Klotz of Regina; Florence (Fred) Glass and Grace (Elmer) Kilback, both of Sedley; and Margret (Roy) Kilback of Regina; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one son, Fabian and a grandson, Jeremy; her father and mother Ernest and Amelia Baldock; sister Lilian, and brother Ernest. WOITAS - Lawrence Gracen passed away April 25, 1999 at the age of 73 in Regina. Lawrence was born and raised in the Lake Alma area, one of 14 children, where his parents operated the family farm, on December 13, 1925. Following high school, Lawrence worked for several years in Sedley for an implement dealership and later in Regina for Firestone Tires. He then returned to Lake Alma to take over the family farm and was engaged in farming until his retirement in 1998. Through the years, Lawrence was very active in the church and parish family life. He had a long time, faithful record of service in the Knights of Columbus. He was initiated into Council 1247 in Regina in 1945 and later transferred his membership to Radville Council 3161. He served in virtually every office of that Council including the position of Grand Knight from 1974-1975. On June 21, 1950 Lawrence married Jean Baldock in Regina. He loved playing cards, was involved in the Lake Alma Elks, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree and coached minor ball. Lawrence was predeceased by his parents, Leopold and Anastasia Woitas; his wife, Jean; a son, Fabian, brothers and sisters: Catherine, Tom, Aloizy, Peter, Phil, Marion, Leone, Eleanor and Andrew in infancy; grandson, Jeremy Woitas. Lawrence is survived by five sons and one daughter: David (Helene), Lyle (Sue), Joseph (Gerri), Michael (Debbie), Grant (Louanne), Dianne (Archie) Foley; 20 grandchildren; one great grandchild; brother, Casper (Anne); sisters: Hattie (Merthen) Toso, Balbina (Rufus) Brilz and Cecilia (Bert) Eidsness; sister-in-law: Betty Woitas as well as numerous nieces and nephews. WOITAS - Vern Woitas passed away on March 18, 2013 in Innisfail at the age of 74. He is survived by his loving wife, Darlene Woitas; children Darren Woitas, Barbara Dolynchuk, Sheila Woitas (Bob), Timothy Woitas (Lenore) and Melanie Woitas and grandchildren Tyler and Kristen Woitas, Jordon and Calum Magico, Taylor and Tamryn Woitas; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents, Pauline and Peter Woitas; brother Lorne Woitas. Vernon was born in Estevan and grew up in Lake Alma. Married in 1960 and relocated to Alberta with family in 1971. Vern worked as a Pipeline Technician for (Producer�s Pipeline/Dome Petroleum/Amaco/BP); from 1956 until his retirement in 1994. He continued to contract for them until 2004. Vern had a passion for hunting, fishing, curling, gardening and landscaping. A Funeral Mass of Vern�s life was celebrated at the St. Mathew Roman Catholic Church, Rocky Mountain House on Friday, March 22 at 2:00 PM. |
